That is incredibly FUN! Brilliant concept. The goals can be seriously satisfying. I love it!
Really simple, but really fun. A multiplayer mode would make it really addictive!
I had fun with this game, and it's a great concept. The idea of rollerskating is space is fantastic, however I found it confusing and really hard to play at first. I feel some instructions somewhere would have been helpful, and if I missed some very obvious ones then my mistake.
Wow, this game is so much fun! Really love the concept. The graphics are really nice too, but in my opinion, the player, boost trail and the finish line didn't quite fit the otherwise really nice and simplistic artstyle. The rollerskating animation looks good too. Flying around like in tiny wings was really fun. I also love how you were able to boost yourself around planet by shooting below you.
I found the game to be pretty self explanatory. It did take a bit to figure out how exactly scoring worked, but in my opinion, that was not an issue. Another thing I really liked is that you when you are currently losing and manage to get the ball into an orbit, you can score a few points in a row and come back, so the game isn't over until the last goal is scored. The game feels really polished, with good controls and lots of different modes. Some music would have been nice. I also have to agree, that a multiplayer mode would be awesome.
Overall, it's an incredibly fun game. Really impressive work! Keep it up!
Man and Machine weren't created equal! One relies on high-tech weaponry, the other on common-sense (more the merrier!). This asymmetry is a solid basis for a ~~blood~~ sport. :soccer::runner::robot: :robot:(I can't believe :football: turns out to be a handegg!)
Loads of fun, addictive even! Trying to get the ball onto an orbit around the asteroid is very challenging, but the benefits speak for themselves.
The graphics and audio are simple and effective, more than adequate really. The focus is on the game and that is all that matters.
Brilliant work all around!
@pkenney, great game! heaps of fun! That gravity pull can sure make you giddy. I loved how the contrasting themes of roller skates, jet packs and rockets come together seamlessly. This would be a great multiplayer! Great entry all up!
Wow. This is awesome. This is way too much fun.
Once I got the hang of it, it felt so good nailing the shots and using your jetpack.
The graphics are simple but nice and clean and the sounds are okay. I did not find any bugs and the game runs without flaws.
I love this. I'm missing only three things: An awesome soundtrack, controller support and **local multiplayer**. Oh my god, if one game ever needed multiplayer, it's this one. :open_mouth:
But even without these things, this game is amazing, addictive and some other good word that beginns with "a".
And now excuse me, I will play a bit more.
Amazing work!
Really really fun to play, and I like the art. I agree with everyone that it would be a good multiplayer game. Can't really find any faults to the game.
It is incredibly fun to just bounce around - get multiplayer up and you have a real good game at your hands.
Wow, it's very very cool. I like the core gameplay. Maybe make more feedback and some music stuff. The gameplay is very well make. It's FUN. Good job !
Ha, this got me by surprise. I was going to complain about rules not being clear at first, but they become so clear after first play, I'm not going to :)
I like how you managed to squeeze in additional modes, and the core gameplay is fantastic. Easy to pick up, hard to master, and the 'polo' aspect is really cleverly executed. Clean, unobtrusive visual representation, also a big plus.
Among the thing's i'd suggest polishing up, an additional indicator from which side ball should enter the score line would be welcome for new players to clear things up (in multiplayer it could differ by colour). Yes, I'm joining the choir: add local multiplayer, you've got an incredible party game on your hands, your players want it *soooo* much :)
You made something really fun and worthwhile. Good job! Cheers and thank you for the feedback on my entry!
Nice one!
Extremely fun game. I didn't understand was going on the first few orbits but once I figured out I wasn't supposed to murder the robot it was a "blast".
The super bouncy version is really hard but I managed to beat the robot. I love the physics of it and the feeling when you hit it just right and it goes soaring around.
Really well done. I do think it might of been improved a bit by having the ability to go back, but forcing your direction might be best.
Awesome game! Was such a laugh getting used to the physics and the robots and had a blast playing it. After reading that you started this on Sunday, wow, top effort. I love the art style and all in all a great game well done!
lol what a great little game, i think a lil background music would have kicked this up another notch! real fun to play! super great and fun take on the theme, congrats & well done!
Fun game, the only thing I can think of to say as feedback is that some times I got so far away that I couldn't touch the planet so I think that you could use the down key you could fall a little faster. I would like to see how this turns up if you add multiplayer and a Good AI for the robots. It would be a fun party game to play.
This game was on point! Can't believe this is a compo entry. I'm a sucker for simple mechanics that lead to complex gameplay. Was able to beat the computer on first round, but it was close... then realized there are more levels. I appreciate that I had to play that 'normal' round first. Graphics were solid, gravity felt gratifying to maneuver in. It took a little while to figure out that the rockets were directional based on mouse position, but I found out pretty quick. Everything felt very tight control wise too. Only blip I saw was that the robot got stuck once, and couldn't move until I blasted him away. Otherwise a solid contender for the compo.
Would love feedback on my game if your ever get time after sifting through all these great responses to your game!

Cheers!
I had a blast playing this game! The concept is simple and well executed. At first, I didn't like how you couldn't control your forward movement, but I actually like that limited control; it only allowed me a limited period to actually hit the ball, creating a sense of urgency. The controls are really smooth and well refined. It shows that yous spent a lot of time polishing that game feel to a mirror shine. I also like how the bots work. They're not just worse versions of you, but rather their own unique entity. Having multiple difficulties with multiple bots with different behaviors really adds a lot of depth to the game. It's not just a lame single-player version of a multiplayer game, but rather an asymmetrical competition designed from the ground up to be single-player, although an expanded version with 2 player support would be nice ;). The only thing I have to complain about is the lack of music, which left the game feeling a bit empty. Other than that, this is one of the most fun games I've played this Ludum Dare.
This feels like an old arcade game, one of the really good ones. It's incredibly simple, and it's a TON of fun! Really awesome concept! I like how there's not really an "AI" so to speak, it's basically player vs environment. I'm not sure what else to say... the next obvious step would be multiplayer, but the game is complete as-is and I can't think of much to criticize. Nice work!
Also, the bouncy ball was hilarious. I was shamelessly giggling the whole time.
Really fun, I had a great time playing this. Maybe it would need some more visual variation, like some asteroids being space junk, ship debris or something like that to give it a certain lacking spark.
What a great idea this is, immediately the game feels great and is easy to pick up and understand and is very intuitive. Visuals are nice and I love the use of the theme in this game it fits well. The only thing that I could think that would really enhance the game is some music because right now it feels a little quiet. Overall though a really cool idea and a really nice execution!
I LOVE this game! So fun, I liked it very much! Good Job
You hit it out of the park @pkenney!
I Played this on Livestream a bit ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwY1-PtcDqs
I enjoyed it, I was a little mad with the robot, it felt like perhaps he was running on different rules than I was and I think I'd have had more fun against another person... but it was good and I had fun.
This was by far the most innovative and fun game I have played on LD so far!
At first I didn't understand what was going on but once I played a few more rounds I found I was really digging what I was seeing. The mechanics are so simple but it's so well executed. The gravity and robot AI is great. The physics on the ball are tuned just right. This also reminds me of a Ludum Dare a few years back where the theme was "Two Button Controls" - so many of those games did 2 button controls and weren't able to do something really fun but you have a fun game using only two buttons and it works really well!
A crazy LD-fied version of Rocket League! I liked how there was room for a lot of high level play if you actually took the time to master the game, like shooting multiple rockets and timing that with gravity so they combo together, not that I could get anywhere near that kind of play.
Very funny, unique approach on the theme! Gootd work!
Fun, well polished game! The focus on the mechanics works out great.
Wow, you've done an incredible job here. The game plays so smoothly. Its a "blast" ;) to play, and there is so much polish. At one point I got the ball orbiting and got a few goals in a row. It was really satisfying. I hope you add support for multiple players in the future. I would love playing this with a group of friends. Nice work!
Very cool game. I love the idea, the gameplay was fun, and the whole thing was very well polished given the time constraint.
Thanks everyone, for the generous feedback! I have rated and commented on all of your games now.
@navot I appreciate the art critique, and you have a good eye - two of those three objects you mention are the ones where I cheated a bit with the color palette. I'll try to be more strict next time, and maybe I needed less detail on the player and trails.
@occultone thanks for the video! Nothing is more useful to devs than watching somebody play it cold, and I was glad that I got to witness your initial confusion.
@steerschips This wasn't built only on Sunday, I used all the time. Just on Sunday morning I had a hot mess with worse goal logic, and the balance was all wrong. I lost a few hours tweaking everything except the root problem before realizing what it was: the ball was too bouncy. I left this as an alternate mode in the game, so if you played bouncy mode you know how crazy nuts it was. Too random.
I really like it :D Most of the comments above already point the flaws, so i will not make this a huge comment.
Really good job!
Great game! I like the physics to control the game. Nice also you have added a opponent. Took me some times to figure out when It's my goal. Keep up the great work. Well done!!
Hey,
I played a couple of play modes. First impressive was that the graphics are nice, it has a very cute style to it. The concept is really easy to get and understand, there isn't even a need for a tutorial. Great job.
I was missing a goal or a purpose though. I don't know how to win, I just played the game a bit and that was that. I also think maybe other inputs for the player could give it more gameplay. The sounds was pettey simple, some music would have been nice.
I really liked the pace of each game, it was snappy and fun. Gratz on finishing this.
This game is very pleasant. I could not explain why, but I found the fact of circling around this planet while firing rockets quite satisfactory and even relaxing.
A very fun game! I didn't understand how to score at first, but I figured it out eventually. Maybe some simple instructions on the menu would help. This game would be great in multiplayer and could expanded with new maps etc. Great idea!
Simple and fun gameplay, that is a example of Ld entry.
I’m officially addicted to this game, the only thing I have to complain about is the lack of music. Otherwise I find this game pretty original and innovative, I have never played something like this before.
Concerning the graphics, it works very well together and is good looking. With that being said I don’t have much more to say! Good luck, have an awesome day and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Simple and creative idea plus good execution. One of the funnest games i played so far.
I have to admit that I didn't really like this at first (everything seemed a bit too floaty), but after a few minutes you start to get the hang of timing your rocket boosts and leading your shots, and it all comes together. Very fun, with just the right level of difficulty - there's something very satisfying about timing a shot just right and sailing the ball over the head of an oncoming robot, then blasting it through the goal :-)
Interesting little game. I spent quite a while trying to achieve escape velocity before actually figuring out what the goal of the game was (when the robot finally accidentally pushed the ball through the glowing line and gave me a score). I like the simplicity of controls and physics yet still feeling like I've got a lot of control.
It took me a little bit to figure out the rules of the game, but it was fun once I did.
This was AWESOME!! I had so much fun with this! The simple controls were nice and lead to situations of having to use the rockets to affect my movements which felt great when pulled off and everything felt so smooth! If this was expanded more, maybe with different shaped asteroids and some form of local multiplayer I'd legitimately pay for this! Great game!! 5/5
This game is incredibly fun! I would pay money for a multi-player version of this game!
Amazing
Definitely one of the coolest Compo entries I have played (of over 40 titles so far). Everything just works. The levels of challenge, the design of the terrain, the balancing of skill vs. luck, the way you have to make gravity work in your favor.
It even has a sort of implicit home run-like special move where you can make the ball orbit the planet and score 2-3 points without the robots having any chance to counter. The terrain, despite seeming arbitrary at first, plays a big role in the awesomeness of the game, having long shallow streaks as well as ridges that stop a freewheeling ball.
I managed to finish with two robots but got my butt handed to me with 4. The game kept me motivated throughout and I had a strong feeling of "just one more round" going when I lost against the 4 robots.
On the downside, there is no music (the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars) and I found the jetpack somewhat superfluous (or I didn't manage to use it well), probably because I didn't realize that it exists before I had a replay just now. A minor nitpick that is easy to figure out but could be explained a bit better is that when you start the game for the first time you don't clearly see from which direction you need to pass the line. So I gave away the first point to the robots.
So all in all there is really not much to not like, I'll definitely keep this one.
Wow, such a great game! The concept is brilliant, and well executed. The game is not too easy or difficult, and provides a real challenge. As said above, the balancing skill/luck is perfect, and the level design brings a lot to the game. It's the kind of game I'd love to play on a coach with friends, I hope you'll release a post-jam version with multiplayer support ;)
Impressive work really
Man I had a fun time playing this. You really made this game feel satisfying! Really had some minutes of enjoyment playing this :) Good job mate and keep it up!
Cheers :)
Awesome game! I sucked pretty badly at first and ended up down 0-8. But then it all clicked and I came storming back to win 10-8! What a fun and bouncy game! Great work!
Very creative! Love the concept and the execution! I had some trouble figuring it out without many instructions at the beginning, but once I figured it out I had a blast.
Highly addictive! I could've played this for ages :-) Great work!
From when the theme was first announced, there was always going to be a lot of games that revolved around a literal planet. But what I love about RRSP is that the idea is so simple that it's a joy to play. In fact, a lot of the popular LD games are popular just because it's so easy to load them up and get into the meat of the game. I like how you seemingly avoided having to do complex A.I. too, which is always a plus in LD situations. But yeah, great game, I felt like the Rocket Roller Space Polo equivalent of John Virgo.
Like the idea and graphics, wish there was more action in the game.
Simple, yet appealing. I feel like you could turn the gravity up and add to the drag force, so that stuff won't orbit so easily (I scored like 5 points in a row without touching the ball).
Fun, original yet simple. Also spot on with the theme. On the negative side the physics seemed unpredictable at times and the ball went into orbit a couple of times. Well done!
Great game, fairly addictive. It's simple to just jump in and play. Obvious good use of the theme. I like what others have said about multiplayer... I think combined with some music which would set a great mood and you have a really neat multiplayer arcade game!
Fun game, actual gameplay.
One my favorite games so far! The idea was very good and I had a lot fun playing the game, although it was impossible for me to win in ultra hard mode. Some background music and maybe a level selection with big and small asteroids. A local multiplayer would be really funny. So your game has a lot of potential and is well done for 48 hours!
Playing with physics is always fun, the game looks polished, and it was really nice to add those game modes. It would have helped changing the asteroid between them, so it could add more variety. Really well done
Really funny game! A multiplayer mode would be great.
haha, it is so fun! =)
Great game! Funny physics and mechanics
Very well done, I enjoyed it even though I'm terrible at it. :D
This was a great game. Had a lot of fun while playing it, even though the AI managed some quick hard to defend goals it still felt fair. I wish I had a wee bit more control over moving left or right, I was able to get off some counter clockwise rocket jumps that were super satisfying.
Well done, thanks!
Fun concept! I need to go to work now .. naaaah one more round
Reminds me a bit of RocketLeague for some reason. I think this would be really fun in multiplayer. If I had to point out one thing it;s that it's easy for the ball to get momentum to one side and for the player. Using the Gravitational field to bend Rockets and nailing the ball feels satisfying, though
Really fun game. I can definitely see this as a cool online/local multiplayer game if you decide to expand it. Kept me entertained for a while even with just the AI. Music would've definitely upped the experience but I can understand why it's not there. Nice work!
Physics games are super neat and I always enjoy them. Many times I can just spend hours just playing with really simple physics mechanics in games. A++ game right here!
Amazing game. I don't know what I would change, maybe some mechanism to prevent almost endless orbiting.
That was a lot of fun! Thanks a bunch.
Tons of fun, congrats! DEFINITELY continue working on it! I appreciate the different modes. The basics did take a bit to get down but heck its just really satisfying to make a well earned goal. You can for sure create special and new asteroids or even maps... I also wondered starting out if having movement control would be a good idea (maybe, I don't know if it breaks the momentum). There's a bunch you can try. Lots of potential, great entry! :D
I don't know if this is the best game I played on this LD 38, but it is definitely the one I played most!
Sometimes when I'm waiting for the build to complete when I'm working, then I start Rocket Roller Space Polo and do a fast match.
So simple and so effective! It's funny how it can be so difficult even if the enemies have no AI at all.
Great job!
Really nice idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8tza0thP_g
