LD38 — A Small World

The Seesaw Redemption by Headmade 2017-05-02T08:30:02Z

Yay, I'm free!

It's surprising how much I actually enjoyed this little game. I could easily have played double the time without getting bored. I say "surprising" because, as you can see yourself the visuals aren't that impressive. All though, as i said, I did really enjoy it. This was due to the puzzles being clear and just enough difficult for me not to loose interest. You really nailed the controls in this game. Sure they aren't realistic but it felt really nice just to roll the hamster ball.

Thank you for the feedback you left on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)! To answer some of your comments/ criticism: We've been thinking a lot about the rotation of the right stick ever since all the comments started flooding in. We might not keep it. But imagine the game without it. It would be quite boring just to move from cell to cell. We wanted that to be a challenge too. Also, we're planning to develop it further during the summer and we'll take your critique into consideration. Thanks again and hope to see you in the next jam!

The most visually pleasing game we’ve played so far. Isak is a big fan of oldschool games and he thinks you’ve really captured that feeling. The leaderboard is a nice addition. We had a fun time playing this one and gave it multiple tries to reach a better score. Have an awesome day and hope to see you in the next jam!

Wow, the humor..! Amazing. I had a few good laughs in the beginning of this game.

I totally see what you mean with trying to make a polished game. We went for the polished look on ours but it ended up lacking content which, as you said, you were afraid of.

About your game. I'm really impressed of how many different levels you managed to make. It was a really fun play. Although, as you said, it's not that polished. BUT, I would love for you to develop this game further because I think this is an original and a great idea for a game.

Also, thanks for your feedback on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)! Yes, we will be adding a story mode were you infect different organs and such.

We loved this concept! Isak said to himself over and over again “I’ll definitely play this game more than once” while we were trying it out for the first time. It was quite hard to grasp what you were supposed to do in the beginning, but it payed off once you learned it and we had a fun time play it. Have an awesome day, all of you!

Hey, @icxon ! Can I link to your play through of [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria) in our description? It would be awesome, so people who doesn't have a game-pad can see how the game plays!

I'll credit and link to your youtube/ vid. Leave a comment, telling me if it's okay, on the Infecteria page so I can quickly see it. Thank you for the feedback btw!

Rasmus wishes his first compo was this good. It’s a really funny idea you had and well executed. Graphics are really cute. The only feedback we have is that you should look for bugs a bit more and this can be accomplished by trying to break the game yourself. For example, you’re able to fly by dragging the feet very fast. Other than that, we really enjoyed it and we couldn’t stop laughing while playing it. Have an awesome day and we hope to see you in the next compo!

Cell Division by steve 2017-05-01T18:33:01Z

Wow! If this was made in a home made engine, I'm super impressed!

I got really excited when I saw the screenshot and I couldn't wait to play your entry. The controls were nice in this one and the graphics blew me away.

The only thing that needs to be worked on is the sound design. The volumes for the different SFXs were a bit off and it got frustrating to listen to after a while. But that's just a cosmetic, the game it self is awesome! Great job and thanks for the feedback you left on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)!

First impression is that the atmosphere of the game is really well done. The music and art style fit together. While Rasmus manage to finish the game Isak was having trouble finding an ID-card. Even though the trouble he had, he had a fun and relaxing experience. Looking forward to seeing how the story ends! Have an awesome day all of you!

We love the concept and the aesthetics. Sure, there are bugs but if you overlook them it was a fun experience. We love a good puzzle game and when we eventually figured out how to get to greatone we got super excited. The only problem we had was unlocking the final door in greatone. Because we didn’t finish the game we’ll vote in the categories that we see fit. Have an awesome day and hope to see you in the next jam!

I’m officially addicted to this game, the only thing I have to complain about is the lack of music. Otherwise I find this game pretty original and innovative, I have never played something like this before.

Concerning the graphics, it works very well together and is good looking. With that being said I don’t have much more to say! Good luck, have an awesome day and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Food Fight by Scornz 2017-05-02T17:56:29Z

I had a great time playing this game! I found some bugs, such as sometimes landing on top of the food, but nothing horrific. I'm very impressed by the amount of 3d models you have managed to create. Concerning the models, the detail is amazing.

Otherwise the game was kind of repetitive, maybe some variation in food would do? Even though it felt repetitive I kept on playing just to get on the scoreboard, so that was awesome!

Overall it is an entertaining game, I had a fun experience and I’ll probably play this game a few more times after posting this. The music was epic and everything fit well together, good luck and hope to see you in the next jam! Have a nice day :D

Small Atomic World War by Kroute 2017-04-30T11:25:52Z

You have a solid game idea right here. The only problem I had with it was the controls, they felt a bit too slow and should have been a bit more responsive. Other than that i enjoyed playing it.

For this being your second game, it’s great. Keep on making games and you’ll be a great developer. Have an awesome day!

There was sadly not much to this game, but I loved the the scroll-wheel gimmick though. If you added some music I would not doubt a second to bounce those characters all day long!

The saying usually goes like "Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.".. Well. I just need a planet big enough.. AND I CAN MOVE THE SUN!!

I loved playing this little game. You could have made it so simple; no menu, no dialogue, no music. But you went all the way and crafted a really enjoyable experience. I have no critique for this one. Great job and thanks for the feedback you gave for [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)!

Infecteria by LiquidBrain 2017-04-29T18:01:31Z

@GoZz About the rotation of the right stick.. I just thought it was a nice gimmick, that's all. I personally find it pretty fun. But I'll take that thought into consideration when we (LiquidBrain) continue the development of this game. Thanks for playing!

Infecteria by LiquidBrain 2017-04-29T18:15:52Z

@HuvaaKoodia I agree with you about the keyboard support. We would definitely get a lot more players. But we were a long way into development when we thought about adding keyboard support. Sadly the graphics (like buttons) were aimed towards game-pads and I would have to have drawn new graphics for it. Plus Rasmus would have to have programmed support for the keyboard on top of the game pad support.

About the gimmick, yeah. You have to rotate the right stick to move faster.

If you really are interested in the game, follow us and we'll update you on our post-jam version that will include keyboard support. We can't promise that it'll be available before the judging ends.

Infecteria by LiquidBrain 2017-04-30T14:26:26Z

@for-science Thank you so much for the feedback. I would have liked to have a leader board in the game. Because that's basically what this game is about, getting as many cells as possible in five minutes. The top score (that i know of) is currently 26/30.

About another fail-state, we're planning on adding a white blood cell in the game, who is pumping out anti-bodies that's try to get you. There's lots that can be done.

There's a zoom button (Y) in the game which helps you plan routes, you might have missed that.

@arcticmattekar HOW?! How did you find it on twitter? Because neither Isak or I are using twitter! It would be awesome if you could link that tweet.

Unfortunately there's no level 2..

I totally loved your game btw! Thank you both for the feedback!

Wow! We’ve not play that many games yet, but i feel that this one will be one of our top favorites. We have no critique for this one. The music is lovely and the art style is simple but so effective and cute. It’s great that you can save your progress in the game and come back to it when you’re out of ideas. We’re sure that you’ll definitely be on one of the leaderboards. Thank you for this experience. Have an awesome day and hope to see you in the next jam!

Stardust - A space adventure by shiitman 2017-05-02T14:46:21Z

I can't seem to go further than the first planet. I tried to teleport to "inTheSky" but it looked glitched out every time I pressed the teleporter-gun button. This might have been because I'm stupid or it was a bug. (I think the former)

In the little playtime that I got I was impressed by the graphics! I'll score you on the categories I see fit so you'll have a fair chance.

Also, thank you, @shiitman, for the feedback you left on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria) ! We'll take it into consideration when we continue the development!

World Keep-Away by dracominer 2017-05-02T16:19:58Z

I laughed a lot while playing this game, even though there was a lot of bugs I had a great experience. Not because of the gameplay, but because of the music.

Concerning the music, I got a picture in my head of you trying to clean a piano and recording it by accident. Later finding the piano-cleaning-song and thinking to yourself “That will do”

I had a hard time getting to the tutorial-screen due to the buttons being a bit offset, when I got to the tutorial i was kind of confused. I think there was some lack of information, bigger and brighter text might do. By the time went by I learnt how to play. And it was fun! Overall the game was kind of challenging but on the same time pretty balanced.

I’ll give you some extra credit for developing this game in java! Have an awesome day, and hope to see you in the next jam!

YAY!

Screenshot 2017-05-13 13.08.27.png

Finally an assembly simulator game I actually was interested in playing!

First thought was "oh man, how is this game gonna do in a jam?". I usually go for simple and understandable games to keep the audience interested. But you managed to achieve that anyway. You made it simple enough and it was so rewarding when you actually got the hang of it. To make someone invest so much effort into reading a manual, there's a high stake that they will be pissed off if they don't find the game rewarding. But that guy is not me. I loved this!

Really well executed!

If you're gonna develop this further I'd LOVE to see subroutines in this one!

I think i spent about an hour on this game, honestly. I'm a programmer by heart and will not accept shitty algorithms, so i actually spent most of my time on lvl 2 to come up with one, and i did. It checks for walls and acts accordingly. I hate hard coding and this game allowed me to not do so.

I'm totally gonna check out the source code on this! Love the CRT effect and I'd love to learn how to do it. Also, I'm really interested in how you managed to create a virtual memory. Oh man, I'm looking forward to diving into the code!!!

Also, i wanna thank @thor for leaving some feedback on my game [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria). We're gonna develop the game further during the summer and all those minor gripes will be gone!

Thanks for this awesome experience and hope to see you guys in the next jam!

Rasmus got a best score of 3, but don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy.

We enjoyed this one. Too bad there wasn’t music it would really heighten the mood of this little game. Overlooking that, we loved the artstyle and it’s a really good take on a golf game. We can see that you focused on the aesthetics on this game and that’s awesome for being a programmer. Super impressed that you wrote the engine yourself. Have an awesome day!

I’m impressed, everything went so well together. This is the most relaxing experience I’ve ever had while playing a game. It was not very hard, but I think that is great. At least in this game. This is the most pleasing graphics I’ve seen so far and I love it!

Concerning the game being easy I got 29/30 trees planted in my first round. I’m totally going to play this game again.

Overall this is something I personally find very enjoyable because of the relaxation, the aesthetics and the mood. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

The graphics was the most pleasing part of the game, it went well together with the music (which we furiously headbanged to). We had a good time playing. When Isak reached level 11 he started to think the gameplay is kind of repetitive. But he kept on playing because of the aesthetics! Rasmus on the other hand kept on playing and reached level 16! Thanks for the experience and have an awesome day!

All that you ever need. Fridge, bed, TV, no people and a nice breeze.

Screenshot 2017-05-02 10.40.26.png

Protip: for FPS games, you could lock the cursor so it doesn't go outside the window when you're looking around. You might have already done this and I broke it by tabbing out. So make sure to lock it again when the user clicks inside the window. (This will definitely not drag your score down, it's just a lil tip) :)

For this being your first LD it's a great entry. I'm looking forward to see what you'll do next time.

I got really excited when I found out it was a first person game. I've never seen a first person stacking game before. And I might know why. I got really frustrated when I fell down from my beautiful tower over and over again. I'm telling you, I got really close to the floating island, like 2 boxed away. So when I went to go get more furniture and then climb up all the way again, I just couldn't do it. But I did have a fun experience nonetheless. The models are nice I love the cute little planet.

Thank you for leaving feedback on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)! You’re actually one of the few people who actually liked the speed mechanic. Haha. Have an awesome day and hope to see you in the next jam!

Edit: You gave me a great idea for Infecteria with your comment "However, there was a “world domination” side of me that really wished that the factories didn’t die" ! I'm thinking that when cells become factories they go into, idk what to call it. "Health mode" maybe, where they can be attacked by antibodies and you have to defend them. They only die when their health is zero. Thank you so much for that comment!!

Terra by TheShrug 2017-05-02T16:50:26Z

I am not a great fan of story-based games but I really enjoyed this one, the story was original and pretty funny! The art is simple and I like it alot.

Concerning the gameplay, I wish there was more. In my opinion it was not challenging enough, I completed the game on my first try. I spent much more time reading the text than playing the game itself, to me it felt more like a interactive book. Maybe that’s the point, It’s relaxing for some and the opposite for others.

Overall I felt relaxed while playing this game, some music when reading the dialog would make the experience much more comfortable. Have an awesome day, and hope to see you in the next jam!

At first I liked the game a lot, relaxing music and simple art. Unfortunately time went by and I got a bit to relaxed. I was running back and forth and it got a bit repetitive, the music stopped from time to time and i felt lonely. Maybe you should add some obstacles in order to make things a bit more interesting?

Concerning completing the game, I felt kind of happy with myself because everything was going great but suddenly i fell into an endless void of purpleness.

Let me start off by saying that it was really hard to aim due to the hexagonal pattern. But that’s the only problem i had with this game. Otherwise, it’s a game that can easily be picked up, the controls were simple and the goal too. It started getting real fun when you got the power ups and started blasting asteroids left to right. It’s a nice entry.

Wow! I really enjoyed playing this game, your game is very addicting and I had a hard time to stop playing.

Concerning the gameplay, It was kind of repetitive but you saved that by spawning those power ups, they kept you motivated to keep on playing. You have done a good job with a lot of things, my favorite thing about this game is the sound effects. They sound incredible pleasing and I can’t get enough of them.

Everything works well together and the game has a nice aesthetic feeling, I enjoyed learning to control the camera even though It was a challenge sometimes.

Overall this game is pretty hard, but as I said before; very addicting. I’ll probably keep on playing this game a lot. Maybe a scoreboard would be a nice addition?

Tiny Battle World by NickW 2017-05-02T14:23:09Z

As the previous comments say. This game is awesome. I love the music, graphics and gameplay. The only problem I have is the controls, they were a bit jerky. But it seems like you did the best you could on them. Actually, even though I had a problem with them, they didn't hinder the gameplay that much.

It's a risky play, with an online game like this. But thankfully I got someone to play with and it seems like you're getting a few players in even though it's online. Great job guys! You'll be on some leaderboard i bet!

The 3d models and animation are amazing in your game. It almost looks like you’ve made this in Unreal Engine because the graphics are so good. But frankly the gameplay became quite stale after a while. But hey, It’s awesome what you’ve managed to make in this short amount of time. Maybe you could add a bit more obstacles, jumping and other mechanics to make it more interesting if you’re gonna be developing this further. Hope to see you in the next jam!

I instantly thought of Toribash, just as @PeachTreeOath did.

Innovative and fun gameplay. I think you have something on your hands here. You should try to implement this mechanic into different games and you'll have some pretty fun games I think.

I'm amazed by the robot's movement! How you managed to make it so controllable and still have the "drunken" characteristics.

Thanks for the great experience you gave me. Have a good one!

Clumsy Clemens in Space by phi 2017-08-01T12:21:39Z

The sound and the art fit very well together and this game is so aesthetically pleasing I would recommend people playing this game only because of that!

You got the clumsy controls to work out very smoothly, I like it.

**Overall** I had a great time playing this game, the mood was spot on! Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

I would find this game much more playable if you could re-fill your fuel once in awhile.

If I have to complain something it would be the lack of music and sound-effects.

**Overall** I enjoyed playing this game, the aesthetichs were awesome, and a simple gameplay that fit the theme. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

**Concerning the graphics**, very pleasing aesthetics it really helped to set the mood! I played for about 20 minutes and I’m kind of addicted already.

The only thing I have to complain about is the lack of music and sound effects. In my opinion this would be much more enjoyable with some audible feedback, I would play for at least 20 more minutes with that implemented, guaranteed.

**Overall** I loved this game and had an amazing time playing it! Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

**Incredible!** I haven't spent this much time on any other LD game so far! Too bad I accidently clicked z+x on level 33. How many levels are there?

I love puzzle-games, I love pixel-art and I love 8-bit music and sound so this is definitely a game for me!

If I have to complain about something it would be quitting the game with *z + x*.

**Overall** this is one of my favorite games so far, it’s so addicting! The win sound effect really got to me, I want to hear it over and over again hehe Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Thank you for the comment you left on [Powered By Coal](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/powered-by-coal)!

This is a well polished game, no bugs, no floaty controls, and it's a nice gameplay. I love that you spent your time making different levels, something that we (LiquidBrain) should have done.

I respect you for taking your time to make it so polished. While most others just try to pump out their idea. It's a bit of a balancing game, either you implement tons of features (which usually results in glitches) or you polish the ones you have. I usually do the latter.

Good luck!

I love terminal based games. I'm actually working on one right now, that implements co-op multiplayer. One is a hacker which UI is entirely a terminal. And then an infiltrator which UI is an FPS camera.

I liked this one, it kinda inspired me to work on my idea even more.

You have a nice framework that can be built upon here, I'd love to see you extend it. Adding more features and such.

Look into embedding the screenshots into the description instead of linking to them. It catches the eye a bit better.

And *pssst*, you have to give access to the source code if you're gonna enter into the compo with this submission

Overall, I really like the game even though it lacks a bit of features.

**Great game!** I really liked the concept of the game-mechanic!

There were some bugs such as you keep on living for a few seconds after death. This is an interesting game-idea and I would tottaly play it alot if you developed it further.

If I have to complain about something it would be the lack of sound.

**Overall** I had a good time playing this game. I felt what you were aiming for, this was a exelent prototype! Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Assault & Battery by superjai 2017-08-01T23:04:39Z

This is the best ld game I’ve played so far, I’m so freaking Impressed! I have a lot of things to say about this, I’ll try to keep it short though...

**Concerning the graphics**, this is the most pleasing aesthetics of a game I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of the “Don't starve” art a little bit. The music really helped to set the mood, and the sound effects are flipping powerful!

If have nothing to complain about, but I have some feedback for you guys. The sound sometimes fucked up, I don’t know if it was because off my computer but you should take a look at it. In my opinion the game was a little bit too easy, but maybe it was because I built a base full of turrets in the middle. And the grenade launcher was a bit overpower. (It really saved my ass some times though!) The only reason I died was because of researching the map. I build too many lights and then wave 21 started. Is the map infinite?

**Overall** I loved this game and had an amazing time playing it for over 30 minutes, keep the good work up guys! You deserve much more ratings by the way. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

**Wow**, I’m impressed and totally addicted to this game!

If I have to complain about something It would be the sensitivity on the mouse in the Lunar base, otherwise great game!

**The game** was well balanced and it was an creative game-idea. I got a score of 1535, first time playing!

**Overall** I had a good time playing this game, I wish there were more things to buy in the shop though! Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

I really liked the Idea of political power for the theme instead of electrical power, nice take!

If I have to complain about something it would be the lack of music and sound effect, it would make the game much more enjoyable!

**Overall** I had a great time playing this game, the resolution gave me a hard time playing the game at first but I zoomed out to 90% and the resolution got fine. Thank you so much for this experience and good luck in the future! Have an awesome day, and I hope to see you in the next jam!

Thank you for taking your time to play our game, [Powered By Coal](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/powered-by-coal), and leaving some feedback. A quick response: I'm glad you seem to have some faith in the game, really keeps the mood up after being kind of disappointing over how it turned out in the end. And I freaking hate making tutorials, and it got reflected in the final product :grimacing: _____

Now to your game:

This must have been both a nightmare and fun to make. To polish this kind of game must have been difficult. **The physics are spot on** and I have no idea how you managed to bend the physics engine to your will.

I managed to beat the game after my second try so the difficulty was balanced. I found it both **fun and challenging**.

**The pixel art is great** and it really sets the mood for the game.

Thank you for leaving a comment and playing our game, [Powered By Coal](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/powered-by-coal)!

This is great for your first LD. Hope you had fun!

I like the idea behind this game, but you could have focused more on making the controls a bit more interesting. What I mean is that they were hard to use. Making them a bit more snappy would help. In that way the controls wouldn't be the challenge, which I found it to be, but instead using the controls to master the art of abducting cows.

Again, great entry for your first LD. Be proud of it, you did a great job!

A platformer needs **good controls** and you nailed it. I hate playing a platformer with floaty controls and I'm glad you put the time into making them as good as they are.

**The art really good.** The only thing lacking is content, but it's understandable as the time given to us isn't that long. Next time try to focus on variations and implementing new features instead of making the game longer. In that way, you can still get the idea across and keep better retention of the players. It's easier said than done and you still did a great job with this.

**I like the implementation of the theme** built into this platformer.

Hope you two had a great time and good luck!

I love this! It's **polished** and **easy to understand**.

I got a high score of about 1200, then I stumbled on a collection of gates and my energy was super low. So I spammed different solutions and got my score down to 700 when I lost all my energy..

I could see this kind of thing being used in school to teach students about logic gates. I can see myself coming back to this whenever I need a refresher on logic gates. It really taught me to be intuitive.

Thanks for the experience !

I haven't looked at your past games, but a little something you can do to make it more aesthetic. (i don't even follow my own words here). But try using effects like camera shakes, especially in games like this. Also, try to tie the graphics together by using a color pallet.

This really captured me though, as it was around the same skill level I have for bullet hells. I completed it on my second try and my heart rate shot through the roof. I had a fun time!

Have an awesome day!
