Looks nice... Is there a WebVersion of the game?

doc-ill 2017-04-28 18:21

Sadly, no. The web build ended up having optimization issues with an abysmal frame-rate. However, I have thought of a couple of ways to optimize it. I'll try the optimizations and add web build before Sunday (if I'm still allowed).

king-kujito 2017-04-29 18:50

Very fun! I can see this being very successful if you keep working on this project.

erdiizgi 2017-04-29 21:15

This is very fun man. But after a while, you feel like a bit aimless. But the game itself is very relaxing. Web build works without a problem and nicely. Good luck with your entry.

doc-ill 2017-04-29 21:47

@erdiizgi Yeah, I originally wanted there to be more goals other than just reaching the forbidden island. Thanks for playing!

terracottafrog 2017-04-30 02:29

One Question:

WHY

WHY MAKE THIS GAME

THIS IS SO BIZARRE

YET I LOVE IT SO MUCH

EXCEPT FOR THE FOV

WHICH REALLY SHOULD BE WIDER

BECAUSE SOMETIMES ITS HARD TO TELL WHERE THINGS ARE

WHEN YOU ARE CLIMBING

GOOD WORK THOUGH

homineludens 2017-04-30 07:50

Fun to play. It would be great to have a way to better rotate objects before drop them and allow to walk slowly. Really like low poly graphic and curved horizon. Good entry.

iseeicy 2017-04-30 15:58

WebGL was a bit laggy for me, so I just used the Windows version and it worked perfectly. I ADORE the way you used the theme. I was actually thinking about doing something like that myself, but I had no idea how to implement circular gravity like that. The opening cinematic gave the player a drive to figure out what would happen upon completion of the game - something that a lot of other entries don't have. I loved how the further up into the sky you got, the louder the wind would get, and the quieter the music would get. It made the climb much more ominous! Also, on the music: If you composed it yourself, it would really benefit from a drum track of some type. Maybe you could have it fade in and out depending on what the player is doing? One thing I would recommend is adding a title menu, and maybe another one after the player beats the game. This *is* the ludum dare though, so I completely understand that the game itself came before that kind of polish. Maybe it's something you add in a post-LD version?

Overall, the gameplay was fun, engaging, and bug-free. Fantastic work!

doc-ill 2017-04-30 17:03

@HomineLudens There actually is a way to rotate items! Unfortunately, I made the mistake of hiding the controls in the pause menu. Oops :P

oldetobeh 2017-04-30 17:06

This is great!

oxlander 2017-04-30 19:43

GREAT JOB!!!! Sorry for caps, still recovering from having fallen and not being able to get up.

On my first playthrough I was playing everything safe, I decided to get objects, then have a wide space, then build up and repeat. Every time I needed new objects I'd get down and add a stairway to the stack. Once I realized this would be impossible because there was likely a limited amount of objects meaning I'd eventually not reach my own stack, I restarted.

On my second playthrough I did everything differently. I searched for every object in the neighborhood first, then I proceeded to stack them. Problem was that I had already made a base from 3/4 of the first few cardboard boxes so that I could've had balance (I hadn't realized that they stuck to one another, thanks for that btw). I piled up and piled up, but once the island was almost in my grasp (perhaps 5/6 more cardboard boxes or 2 more refrigerators?), the worst happened. I only had one chair and a box left. I decided to do the technique I did earlier with the doors by jumping and adding a cardboard box to the high point of the chair. But the worst happened....I imagined it earlier but didn't believe it could happen by this point...I fell. You should've seen me frantically trying to stick to an object while falling, and then looking everywhere for something to help me back up (I only had one box left by this point). But alas, to no avail.

Anyways, great game man/woman/etc! It felt like a perfect kids stacking game aesthetically in the beginning, but the stress was just too much to handle by the end :cold_sweat:. Perhaps I'll try to beat the game after a break, but right now I need to rest haha. Next time I certainly have to follow the method in the picture above, I wish I had remembered to check!!

doc-ill 2017-04-30 22:06

@Oxlander Thanks for playing and posting your story! I had no idea this could lead to such an adventure! O.O The game is deceivingly difficult, and I think you may have made it further than most. :D

vodzik 2017-05-01 09:13

It was fun to play :) But end was a little disappointing. There was nothing interesting on island (or maybe, i miss something?)

zeriver 2017-05-01 10:07

Really cool game! Gameplay is pretty fun and engaging but also presents challanges along the way. Also you gave a player good motivation to keep playing - curiosity. Graphics and music is nice also i like how audio changes when you are higher. Overall really solid game and good job on your first entry. One more thing, you may want to make LD game a little easier and quicker to complete, many people don't want to spend much time on one game and get easily discouraged. Anyway i really enjoyed playing your game.

epicsoft 2017-05-01 22:53

Like this kind of game. Good physics

titomakanijr 2017-05-02 00:31

That really was a neat little game! It was great building that massive tower and looking down at the little round planet below. Great use of the theme by the way! I do wish there was a way to turn off the music though, as the short loop started to drive me to insanity as I kept falling down my tower of chairs. Beyond that controls could be tightened up a bit. I had some issues actually climbing back up after I had fallen because the objects kept pushing me outwards as I hit their corners. All that is not to say I didn't enjoy the experience. I think for a small game jam this is great and a lot of fun!

nickavv 2017-05-02 02:30

This game is really cool, I didn't finish it because my tower got very difficult to climb up, but here's a list of things I loved:

- the spherical world physics which feel totally great and natural - the vertigo-inducing fisheye camera when you're high in the air - the way the music fades out and the wind sounds come in when you're high up

Here's what my stack looked like in the end Capture.PNG

Great work!

impbox 2017-05-02 07:37

Very cute!! Loved stacking things up, but I sucked at climbing up my stack. The music was cute, some SFX would be good. I didn't make it very far but I might have another go, it was quite fun.

liquidbrain 2017-05-02 09:04

All that you ever need. Fridge, bed, TV, no people and a nice breeze.

Screenshot 2017-05-02 10.40.26.png

Protip: for FPS games, you could lock the cursor so it doesn't go outside the window when you're looking around. You might have already done this and I broke it by tabbing out. So make sure to lock it again when the user clicks inside the window. (This will definitely not drag your score down, it's just a lil tip) :)

For this being your first LD it's a great entry. I'm looking forward to see what you'll do next time.

I got really excited when I found out it was a first person game. I've never seen a first person stacking game before. And I might know why. I got really frustrated when I fell down from my beautiful tower over and over again. I'm telling you, I got really close to the floating island, like 2 boxed away. So when I went to go get more furniture and then climb up all the way again, I just couldn't do it. But I did have a fun experience nonetheless. The models are nice I love the cute little planet.

Thank you for leaving feedback on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)! You’re actually one of the few people who actually liked the speed mechanic. Haha. Have an awesome day and hope to see you in the next jam!

Edit: You gave me a great idea for Infecteria with your comment "However, there was a “world domination” side of me that really wished that the factories didn’t die" ! I'm thinking that when cells become factories they go into, idk what to call it. "Health mode" maybe, where they can be attacked by antibodies and you have to defend them. They only die when their health is zero. Thank you so much for that comment!!

This game is intriguing! I really liked the music too!

justus-pousi 2017-05-02 17:11

Nice idea! My only problems were that the controls are a bit floaty and the camera felt nauseating when walking on the planet. Maybe it would have felt better with a 3rd person camera?

Anyway it's a fun game concept and overall very well done. I managed to get to the island with my 2nd try.

dejvo 2017-05-03 08:56

good idea but it could use a bit of polishing I was almost there, but then i fell and to start all over again is a pain. but overall it is well made

spiteful-fox 2017-05-04 03:54

stackz.jpg

This is fun, but so hard to make my tower climbable. xD

iron-leonem 2017-05-05 02:36

Great, fun game with a lot of potential!

adroitconceptions 2017-05-06 00:37

Really interesting game. did anyone actually build their way all the way up?

I ran into an issue that I could only scroll through items one way (webGL version) and didn't know about being able to rotate items (might have been able to make it up if I could.

I basically collected all the 'boxy' shaped items, jumped and built under me... when out of fridges (~10) and boxes (~15) & tables, I still had quite a ways to go up. I then started alternating doors in (one vertical, one horizontal), still had a ways to go.

I liked how the sounds changes as you get higher.

jk5000 2017-05-06 08:38

The idea is good, but is way too difficult too reach the floating island. And the music and graphics is super great.

ret44 2017-05-12 00:05

I love it. It's kinda hard, but good thing you added the possibility to carry multiple items. However, camera felt weird. When I started WebGL build, it was positioned upside-down. WebGL build was also laggy for me (playing on Chrome 58.0.3029.96 (64-bit)), so I played standalone version.

prototyke 2017-05-12 02:24

I am absolutely awful at that, but it was pretty fun. Loved the the first person for the stacking. Thanks for playing our game too.

bemmu 2017-05-12 02:51

It's very hard to climb my tower from the first person after I've built it. I resorted to walking against my tower and smashing space randomly, which sometimes worked. I had fun though, and imagine someone more puzzle-oriented with more patience than me would have tons of fun with this. It's like a puzzle version of Katamari Damacy.

Laa la la la la laa laa laa la laa laa stackity stackiityy

Liked the world and your models, and the overall idea was innovative. I can see how this would be something YouTubers would let's play.

meenners 2017-05-12 03:40

Dat music! Got me lost into your game building my tower that led way off course from the floating island lol In all honesty, it was a very cool game! The graphics were cool, the music was captivating, the gameplay kept me in there! I was a little disoriented by the fact that I was able to explore more and lost track of the original house. I've mentioned this to other game creators in this challenge but, the sphere world felt unnecessary. You could make the game just as fun without it. May actually ease the amount of physics youre using :) GREAT JOB! Loved it!

rplnt 2017-05-12 11:12

I like it, but it was hard to play due to controls being too jerky and sensitive. Plus those steps I had to jump onto. So I didn't manage to get to the target (climbing up was frustrating), but I did get several stories high. Good job, with a bit of tweaking it could be fun even for the less patient :)

noddingtortoise 2017-05-12 15:35

Really fun game! I had a lot of fun with this game, the graphics are well done and the music is excellent. The controls need some refining, especially the jump which felt a bit too floaty The scroll would also miss/jump over some objects I had collected, but this might just be an issue with my mouse. Overall a very fun, quirky game, well done!

zotapianola 2017-05-15 01:18

I didn't love the camera, but I liked your game. Congratulations, additionally, on adding some story. I like it when people give some more context to what's going on in the game.
