Shape Struggle by csanyk 2016-04-18T21:51:00
Sadly my gamepad didn't work with it, but still fun!

Nice little game, awesome visual effect. The mac version works fine btw.
Brilliant - really well done and exactly the kind of game I like. Make a load more levels and I'd buy it as a phone app.
Nice :) I was just matching colours, I'd echo other people's comments that it could use a bit more in-depth explanation.
Great, very slick, and good fun. I couldn't figure out where to go on the third floor.
Original idea! Hard as hell.
Ah bugrit, I've just discovered that the web build doesn't detect game-over, or play sound effects. Annoying, but I'm not fixing it tonight tbh, mebbe tomorrow :)
Ok it's a bit fixed :) Detects lose state, and most of the sound effects work. There's still some awesome glitches for you to find!
Thanks for the votes & feedback! :)
Yes I decided to have bricks in place at the start to stop the player from just placing loads of squares to get lines. It was meant to be configurable tho, I ran out of time to do a menu.
And yes still some movement glitches, I didn't have time for the extra logic to fix that either.
I wish I could have got it finished up a bit more, but I thought I should upload it anyway rather than hide it away in shame :)
Thanks everyone!
ALobker, that's always the best bit :)
jeroenwimmers, showing the order of the shapes' cycle is a great suggestion, I'll put that in when I finish up a post-jam version.
edve98, you said it restarted when you didn't lose - did you clear all the blocks from the well? Because I put that in as a win condition. No feedback to tell you that is a bit useless I know, more things to be fixed in a finished version.
schizoid2k you're right, sorry! Fixed Windows build uploaded to the same url, will hopefully work now.
Good thoughts, thanks!
Woop, fun :)
Looks good, nice music! Bit hard for me, but fun.
Love it! The graphics are great, especially the cute beasties the enemies get turned into. Great fun to play.
I don't know whether you meant it to let you leave a room before you'd killed everything, you can basically run straight through from the start to the boss - unless that was intentional, maybe you could add something to stop you leaving a room until you've wiped out all the waves of enemies.
Overall, excellent :)
Mac build works fine! This is great, love the look. Same as other people I wasn't sure what to do, tried recharging the pod but couldn't, died on the anomoly.
Looks cool, but I'm not really sure what's going on :)
Lovely. Great job on the retro aesthetics, and brilliant storyline, very zeitgeisty.
Fun! A good, simple idea, well executed. Looks nice, my only complaint with the presentation is that the sfx are so much louder than the music.
Really good! Nice idea, well executed, slick presentation, lot of fun.
Mac build please? :)
Ok it's loaded, now what? :)
Brilliant example of a simple but very effective idea, would make a great phone game.
That was sweet, great innovative idea and very slick presentation. Would definitely play more of this.
Amazeballs. Original and beautifully crafted. Make a longer version, with sound!

Ah thanks mate, very kind! The levels are actually generated, getting harder as they go along, so you'll get different ones if you play it again.
I think you're right about the control delay when you pick up a battery and your charge increases, it's more noticeable with higher-numbered batteries and it's started to bug me. If I work on the game any more that will be the first thing I fix.
Good tip about the same/different coloured tiles, I hadn't even thought of it! Glad that visual element turned out to be helpful!
No I hadn't seen This Is The Only Level before, I just fired it up now and got stuck sooner than I'd like... Gotta love elephant games tho! I'm glad you found the music bearable, I had very little time to spend on it but it seems to have come out ok. Thanks again for the kind words!
I just added a second link so you can play it on your phone/tablet! Link again: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=29736
Thanks guys! Yeah balancing a difficulty curve isn't something I'd had previous experience with, but once you get into it you can burn through the earlier levels reasonably quickly. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks! The feeling is real, if you like this game then you are smart ;) Yep the levels are generated, with an algorithm to make them harder in various ways as you progress. I've got as far as level 40-something so far, but am gonna see how far I can get if I can remember to leave it open long enough. Would love to hear if anyone gets further! Thanks again for the kind words.
Thanks again for the kind words, and constructive feedback. I'm keen to make a more complete version of this at some point so all your thoughts are welcome.
Ok I've reached the target I set myself of getting to level 50 before I sleep, anyone else get any further yet? :)
You REALLY love the unified theme to this! ;) Thanks guys!
Thank you all for the useful feedback and kind words :)
Thank you! "Overload" happens if you reach a battery or the exit too soon, you have to take the right number of steps as determined by the previous battery to get to the next battery/exit. Yes Pico-8 is brilliant, I'm gonna be using it a lot more!
Thanks guys! I'll try to check out Fidel Dungeon Rescue, sounds cool :)
Thank you :)
Thanks, appreciated!
Thank you! :)
Thanks!
Tried the Mac version, which doesn't sound like it's been updated post-jam, and wasn't sure what to do tbh - any drone I made was in a smallish empty area of squares with nothing obvious to interact with besides the home forge. But I liked the gfx/audio/interface etc :)
Fiddly and it took me a couple of goes to find the shop etc, but it creates an appropriate atmosphere and I know what you mean about feeling drained from other people seeing you!
I had to chmod +x the executable to get the mac build to run, but it does work. This is pretty hard, maybe I'm just not good enough, but it's kinda cool.
Quite hard on a trackpad, but fun! Nice work :)
Tough game! Played for a while and started to get the hang of it tho, my best score is 112,335. Now my hand hurts. BTW I'm definitely on Team Xbox Controller for this one.
This is fun, and I'd probably play it again. Other feedback... It gets a bit frustrating starting so many games where you die before you get the chance to reach a pink box. Quick restarting is appreciated tho and helps soften the blow. I know we're not rating for the music, but given how much I tend to die, I'd suggest not making the music restart when you restart the game.
Nice work!
Short but sweet, great visual and audio style, very atmospheric. I watched Elysia stream it so I knew what to do already, otherwise I probably would have spent more time figuring it out. Nice!
Love the graphics, nice atmospheric audio, nice basic arcade gameplay that could be great when you add more to it. Good work!
Woo Pico-8! :) This is fun, and I can see if you expanded on it with the other stuff you had in mind, it could be even funner! Great work representing the people in barely any pixels. compelling sfx etc. Maybe throw in some music if you do work on it more. Good work!
