Nice little game, art is interesting, It's really relaxing. My first attempt is 9 cells I will retry when rating is up ;)

The gamepad controls are quite good even if it's a little bit annoying to rotate the right pad to speed you up as I don't see any real point to that.

Great job :)

huvaakoodia 2017-04-29 15:41

So why is an Xbox controller needed in order to play again? Is there some kind of a unique gimmick which absolutely requires such a controller to work? It would be nice to know.

Supporting both :video_game: and the :keyboard: + :mouse: combo is super easy in Unity, so if you can make it work you should. Right now many people won't give your entry a try simply because they *can't*, me included.

I'll give it a spin and a fair shake the moment I *can*, pretty promise.

liquidbrain 2017-04-29 18:01

@GoZz About the rotation of the right stick.. I just thought it was a nice gimmick, that's all. I personally find it pretty fun. But I'll take that thought into consideration when we (LiquidBrain) continue the development of this game. Thanks for playing!

@HuvaaKoodia I agree with you about the keyboard support. We would definitely get a lot more players. But we were a long way into development when we thought about adding keyboard support. Sadly the graphics (like buttons) were aimed towards game-pads and I would have to have drawn new graphics for it. Plus Rasmus would have to have programmed support for the keyboard on top of the game pad support.

About the gimmick, yeah. You have to rotate the right stick to move faster.

If you really are interested in the game, follow us and we'll update you on our post-jam version that will include keyboard support. We can't promise that it'll be available before the judging ends.

Really nice art style and atmosphere, but agreed I really wish the keyboard/mouse was supported. The right stick was a bit annoying to deal with but I found it pretty relaxing play.

All in all pretty nice game and definitely more solid than the majority of console controller based (PTSD flashbacks inc) that I've played today. So good job

@JoyFired Thank you for playing our game! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. We're gonna develop this further during the summer so I'll take your feedback into consideration.

We'll take a shot at yours when we get the time.

Nice art style and concept.

However, while I couldn't make it past 13/30, I still didn't quite feel challenged. Is there a fail-state other than the 5 minutes running out? I think I would have liked something to evade while converting cells. Alternatively, if you are going more for a relaxed strategic angle, I would have liked a mini-map so that I could better optimize my routes and conversions.

Having to rotate the right thumbstick feels like a really neat mechanic at first, but my thumb still feels sore after playing just three rounds. Maybe you can use that in a way that doesn't require rotating the thumbstick for five minutes straight (a brief speed boost with a cooldown perhaps?)

Overall, a neat game that has potential for improvement. I am looking forward to seeing a more polished version in the future.

arcticmattekar 2017-04-30 11:26

I saw your game on twitter and had finally time to play it. I really like your art style (reminded me a lot of Osmos). Is there a next level when you reach the 30/30 goal (I unfortunately never made it). :(

I too am interested in seeing what this will be growing into.

liquidbrain 2017-04-30 14:26

@for-science Thank you so much for the feedback. I would have liked to have a leader board in the game. Because that's basically what this game is about, getting as many cells as possible in five minutes. The top score (that i know of) is currently 26/30.

About another fail-state, we're planning on adding a white blood cell in the game, who is pumping out anti-bodies that's try to get you. There's lots that can be done.

There's a zoom button (Y) in the game which helps you plan routes, you might have missed that.

@arcticmattekar HOW?! How did you find it on twitter? Because neither Isak or I are using twitter! It would be awesome if you could link that tweet.

Unfortunately there's no level 2..

I totally loved your game btw! Thank you both for the feedback!

I'm interested in your game. Perhaps you can post some gameplay footage as temporary solution to the lack of keyboard controls.

simonhutchinson 2017-04-30 20:41

Looks like fun. I wish I had an XBox controller!

mega-man 2017-05-01 01:50

I could only get through one five-minute session due to my hand getting tired of rotating the right stick, but it's a pretty fun game that would benefit from even a local high score system! I'd also like it if reaching 30/30 rewarded you with a cutscene wherein the person whom you've infected receives word from a doctor that there are at least thirty active **virus factories** coursing through their bloodstream, and you're shown the look on their face as they're bluntly informed that they have less than a week left to live.

slimabob 2017-05-01 03:21

Sweet! I really enjoyed this one. The right-stick mechanic is very cool, though my thumb did get pretty tired after a single playthrough :c. I think the camera mode also should be a toggle, it got tiring having to hold the button for so long!

I love the art and the music- very impressive for how much time you had to work on this.

Also, very unique concept. I've only seen one other game take things to the bacterial level- and I absolutely love what you did with it.

Great work all around, wish I could just continue from game over instead of restarting :(

move127 2017-05-01 12:24

Great game! The music and art are both great. I like the mechanic of moving the right stick to go faster. I think this game would be great if it were expanded into something dealing with the whole immune system. Like starting out on the level of infecting cells in one part of the body, and move to infecting cells throughout the body.

glimaleite 2017-05-01 12:44

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback on my game! Now it's my turn. Like some people said, the music is pretty nice. I get it that some people didn't enjoy the right stick rotating thing, but I kinda liked - don't really know why though. Still, I'm not sure if you should keep it if it demands the use of a controller.

The graphics are very cute and it really matches with the audio and gameplay. Bravo! I think that the game could be shorter. At one point I was like: oh, I will never get those 30, even if I think I am doing a good job. I think you should probably aim at 20 or so?

Congrats for going to a different direction other than using small planets!

icxon 2017-05-01 13:39

This game feels nice. Time factor works in some way, but I think you need something different for end-game condition than just time. I like the bacteria factories idea, but I don't see it's possible to perform a some sort of chain reaction if I super fast at the beggining, no matter how fast and how much cells I infect - the amount of bacterias produced is constant it seems.

infection.png

Anyway it is fun and nicely drawn (reminds Osmos a bit).

Here is my playtest: https://youtu.be/oxc1Xt6fNCk

Thank you!

steve 2017-05-01 17:07

Nice game, loved the art style. I would have liked to have seen the right stick rotation to speed up represented on the players character somehow, and the effectiveness of the rotate increased as my right hand was hurting by the end of it!

The cascading increase in your effectiveness as the game progresses as you turn other cells into factories was great- gave a real sense of a spreading infection!

lugdumdare-team 2017-05-01 17:30

Nice entry! Audio and mood is awesome! I wish movements could be a bit faster (I didn't like how the right pad should be use) and getting bonus as you eat cells (like eating faster, movement faster, etc.). Appart from that, It is really great! Well done! ;)

geckoo1337 2017-05-01 19:46

This game seems so gorgeous, but I have no gamepad. Is there a way to play it on Windows?

headmade 2017-05-01 21:51

Cool game. I like that I'm playing something on a microscopic scale as this fits the theme nicely (also I had a similar idea at the beginning of the jam but did not go with it).

The music and sounds are well fitting and I did not notice that the sounds were made with your mouth while I played. Good job.

The visuals are pleasing and communicate everything nicely.

Rotating the stick to go faster seems gimmicky and doesn't add anything worthwhile. It's especially disappointing that rotating is not represented visually or via sound.

I only managed 9/30 and getting all 30 seems impossible to me. Is there a trick or am I just bad?

doc-ill 2017-05-01 23:05

Nice work! I found the movement speed mechanic pleasing. However, there was a "world domination" side of me that really wished that the factories didn't die. I suppose that would make them overpowered though!

shiitman 2017-05-01 23:24

Very good game. Music, graphics, game mechanics and idea itself are great.

A little bit criticism: I think, that mouse/keyboard (or mouse only) controlls would be better for such kind of game, controller-only solution can push off many players. And the game is pretty hard, first level should be easier, to let player drop into.

Once more: the game is great and I am looking forward to see future versions.

goodbyesquare 2017-05-02 08:43

Great fun game. The music was nice and the graphics were simple and effective too! Probably my only critique would be that the control method of spinning the stick felt like it was giving me RSI and overall wasn't worth it. Outside of that it was quite fun and addictive, great work!

thor 2017-05-02 21:36

I saw this during the compo on and was glad I stumbled across it again. I thought it was really cool but I'm not sure how I feel about using the right stick to accelerate things. It was weird to try and press A and spin the right stick at the same time. Minor gripes aside, I really enjoyed this.

cooby 2017-05-02 22:13

Solid start to a game. With a few more layers of depth it could be really fun. Not a fan of rotating the joystick.

bwalter 2017-05-03 21:21

Solid game, if a little repetitive. its controls were a little wonky too, but its a good start. You guys nailed the mood. might be a good idea to add keyboard functionality as well :)

tuomo 2017-05-05 16:55

I’m going give feedback more on the visual side, hope you find these comments useful. Overall very well done art. These are the things you might want give some thought:

That filter you used on the logo, other text, text frame edges (like photoshop crystallize filter), i find it bit obvious.

Those cell organelles look bit random (and maybe small?), maybe reference some scientific illustrations or microscopic images on them (if you haven’t).

And biggest complaint: typography, there are at least 4 different fonts used. And they don’t necessarily work well together. Less is more in typography and legibility is most important factor when choosing fonts. Tutorial screen is really busy and there isn’t much space around text. I even had some text clipping going on right side of the screen. Also maybe check font sizes, that text is huge.

tyranosaw 2017-05-06 03:25

This is an awesome little game. Wasn't very good at it though... My record is 9/30. I love the idea of it and its relation to the theme, Great! I might have a few ideas that you could add to the game. You could make the game a little more 'satisfying', maybe make the movement speed a little quicker (I know that rotating the right stick makes you faster, which is great, but maybe the base speed should increase a little) and also there could also be more bacteria produce for each cell. Basically maybe decreasing the difficulty. Yea, I'm pretty bad at the game. Well, Great game and Congratulations!

blackrose 2017-05-09 11:15

The atmosphere is great, is a good game and so beautiful. Maybe its a bit repetitive and slow, and the control to move quickly its not the best idea i think. But i spend a good time playing it ^^

pjnovas 2017-05-11 03:33

The mood, audio and graphics are great, it reminds me to Spore at the very beginning. I second all the complains about xbox joystick only and it's kinda slow, I felt I didn't have a real goal. good entry!
