LD38 — A Small World

A Bloody Small World by blinry 2017-05-01T14:48:35Z

The game is quite interesting. It is a unique take of the theme and it is rather well made. The game was a bit confusing at first, I had to fiddle around to figure out what exactly I had to do. The movement controls were intuitive and the objective was clear. My only problem is that when the little blood cells are in my way, I can't move past them like cells would.

The Treachery of Game Dev by ratking 2017-05-07T13:39:05Z

@ratking, this game is awesome. The entire concept was odd but all of the elements of the game fit togather. The bugs actually don't detract from the game, they add to the experience of how code can be treacherous. I loved th egame not only because of the fun gameplay but also because I had never even seen Lua code before and this game helped me get started learning it. Thank you for that.

StopWatch by SkullPixel 2017-05-03T01:20:37Z

This is a really good game. Honestly if it was more fleshed out, I wouold pay money to play this game. If you add a story into it you could sell this. The game mechanics are awesome. The music and sound effects just fit in with the game. The graphics were simple and beautiful. It all just worked so well together. I would suggest implementing a more detailed explanation on how to play the game. It took quite a few tries before I could figure out what I was doing. After that point it was really fun. A tutorial level should smooth out that learning curve and help people get to enjoying the game much faster. Great job!

Chroma by Megalink 2017-05-07T13:06:03Z

Overal the game is really good. I like the variety and how various elements of the game just fit together. This might be a bit nitpicky for a game jam but I felt like there wasn't any context for the violence that the game required. A gun was shoved into my hands and because I've played other games I knew that anything with a health bar should be shot. I think the atmosphere and a story would be more captivating if players were given sufficient context for their actions. As far as most players are aware, the player just murdered a bunch of civilians and then started shooting up an alien facility. The violence without context is what bothered me about the game otherwise it has great graphics, wonderful music, and very well made game mechanics.

Fancy meeting you here by Local Minimum 2017-05-03T01:14:13Z

THis game is pretty good. My only problem is with the sound effects when people talk. Although it could be argued that the sound there should be annoying to set in the fact that you don't want to talk to those people. Overall the game just works good with all of its parts together. I like the art style and the interesting take on the "small world" theme. Good job!

Human Tragedy by tiffi 2017-05-07T13:57:33Z

The game is very well made. I love the player sprite the best. The music gives the air of some epic and mysterious mission. The game mecahnics were confusing, and the end was such a twist. Overal it was a great game.

Ragdoll Wars by bwalter 2017-05-03T14:10:37Z

This game is pretty good. The controls are finicky but it seems that is the intention. The aspects of the game just fit together. The audio and the pixelated graphics work well together. The combat system is difficult to gte the hang of but you had a little tutorial in the beginning to help with the learning curve. Overall a great game. One way th8is game could be even more awesome is if multiple players could battle it out against each other. In your post ou said to comment a link to our games so here's mine: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-keep-away

Deep Bottom by LMG613 2017-05-03T14:21:48Z

The game's theme is a veyr interesting take on the "Small World" theme. The story is rather compelling and the music and game mechanics help to support it. The graphics felt like they didn't really fit. A dirtier and more roughly viewed graphics would probably fit better. Perhaps rough, hand drawn sketches would look best. Maybe applying a noise function to the entire screen with variation over time would be very cool looking. The graphics look just fine for now but they could look better if you want to expand this game. My biggest problem with the game is that it's too short. The story and the agme set itself up to be a long and arduous struggle of a man battling his own depression while trying to save his girlfriend from her maze. Overall, I love the game and would definitely play it again if there was more content.

DPRK Defence Force by Cal 2017-05-07T15:44:34Z

I like your game. Kudos for building from scratch. I basically built a game engine before the competition and just did the jam. The game is really well made. My first time playing I didn't realize that you could build turrets. After that I didn't realize that the grey cylinders were centrifuges, not better turrets. If you want to develop this game further I would suggest making that distinction clearer. A tutorial period of time would be beneficial as well. Overall it is a great game!

Classical Conditioning Cooperation - [CCC] by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2017-05-03T22:03:08Z

The game is really well made. I am amazed at how polished it is and how all of the components fit together. The only thing that I would suggest changing is variation in the music.

RASHLANDER by ryguydavis 2017-05-03T14:00:42Z

This is a really fun and challenging game. The controls are not exceptionally intuitive and it took me a bit before I noticed that celestial bodies actully applied gravity upon the ship. Overall the game is great. The graphics look amazing, the audio fits in with the style and the overall gameplay mechanics help the player to feel like they are flying a ship that is stranded, low on fuel and unable to maneuvre effectively against the gravity. The game could use some more instruction in the earlier levels so that the learning curve is smoother. I love the whole retro video game style. It's rather nostalgic for me.

eiland by rubna 2017-05-01T14:38:53Z

THe game looks very nice. I love the graphics and the simplicity of the game. It was a bit confusing at first. It was fun in how challenging it was. It would be helpful if there was more explanation as to what the goal is.

LD39 — Running out of Power

CREEP by AkirAssasin 2017-07-31T19:33:59Z

The game was a bit odd for me. I found it difficult to understand what I was doing and why I shoudl be doing it. If you coudl establish earlier on what actions that player needs to take and then set up why they should make them, the game would be much better and easier for people to try out. Personally, I didn't like the game but it was definitely good. It has plenty of potential.

Saturnalia by graebor 2017-07-31T19:43:41Z

This game was really good. My favorite part of the game was the music and sound effects. They played really well together along with the graphics. You really captured the mood of a dying world, starving for power (whether or not you wanted that I'm not sure). Overall this is a great game. My only complaaint is that it is very short. I woudl definitely play more if this game was longer.

Ministry of Synthesis by impbox 2017-07-31T19:08:55Z

This game is pretty cool. I like the concept of playing around with waves. However, it was very challengine for me since I don't have much experience with waves and how they work together. If there could be a little tutorial or some kind of experience that clearly shows how the waves work that woudl be helpful. Other than that, I love the graphics and the game is very well made.

Mower Storms by dracominer 2017-08-02T13:34:39Z

@shaolin-dave , I guess I didn't really understand what the box meant by "Web". I didn't build a web version but the download page should still work. It works for me.

Mower Storms by dracominer 2017-08-03T17:55:55Z

@random-storykeeper, What kind of system are you using? I beleive that the game should work on all systems but I wasn't able to test for any unix systems yet. Mac and Windows should run it just fine.

One In the Chamber, One In the Socket by notApollogising 2017-08-02T19:36:47Z

This game was actually really fun. I made it past the final level. The whole game worked well together. If you just polished up a few things, like not really knowing if you're dead yet or not after your last bullet is gone, and some AI bugs, this woudl be a decently marketable game. I woudl love to play this game more if more content was added to it. ie more levels.

The Wiz by Michael Feldman 2017-07-31T22:25:03Z

The game felt very atmospheric. I wasn't sure why I was running or what I was supposed to interact with. The game was interesting and the graphics/audio played well with the mystery, but I didn't really understand why the attack left the player weak or who/what that other creature was (from the opening). It is a great game overall but I felt like there wasn't much context for the player's actions.

Lifeforce Deathrun by GanbareGamesKyle 2017-07-31T22:19:05Z

This game was rather challenging for me. Quicktime events are the bane of my existence so I haven't been able to see if there is much beyond the first few seconds of the game. Overall this game is very well made and would be pretty fun for someone not me. My only complaint is that I would like better context for the actions. In the game the players should understand what they should do and why they should do it without needing a description. This creates context for the actions. Beyond that, good game.

SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. SOMETHING IS WRONG. by Heather Flowers 2017-07-31T19:21:38Z

I really liked this game. It would be cooler if there was more to see in the game but where it is at now is awesome. I really liked the ending bit the best although the character design was very clever as well. The game captured the feeling of existing in a dying world very well

Dorgus Needs Power! by WillData 2017-07-31T22:21:20Z

This was a pretty fun game. I enjoyed the gameplay and they way recoil matters. My first time playing i stood near an edge and the recoil killed me. It was an interesting mechanic and the graphics went well with the game. Overall, this is a great game.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Wispering Away by raoz 2020-04-21T20:11:47Z

This is a really impressive game. I like it. I would have enjoyed it a bit more if there was a specific goal such as chop X trees, stay alive for X minutes, etc. Otherwise really impressive. Kudos for using Rust!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Thunder Rally by smilewood 2020-10-05T13:17:18Z

I really liked this game. The sound effects do get very repetitive, but it had the feel of cars going around a track so that was good. It felt like the optimal strategy is to upgrade the first car's speed and never upgrade again, for many levels, the cannons simply cannot keep up with the speed and having multiple cars is where you get hit. The graphics are pretty good, I loved the animation for the crowds in the stands. I also especially loved you have a Linux version available, using Ubuntu has made my rating and submission job a bit harder since most are just exporting for windows.

Circadian by somn 2020-10-20T15:52:15Z

I really liked the aesthetic the game. The objective was rather unclear and it felt like I was just walking around repeating tasks over and over again. Kinda reminds me of being depressed in a small apartment. This totally captured that for me. Just add a bucket of ice cream and it's a flashback.

WoodStone_02 by cottontshirtz 2020-10-20T16:01:00Z

Really liked this game. Sadly I don't have friends so I played against myself. Still really fun. This would make a really good board game. Reminds me of Go.

Rocket Factory by Matthew Roelle 2020-10-08T19:09:44Z

This was a really fun game. Pretty challenging to get the hang of but really fun once I got in the groove. I had some trouble selecting the piece I wanted out of the assortment, partially because of everything moving pretty fast. This doesn't mean it's a bad mechanic, just might need a more forgiving system like maybe not a health system but track successes per failure and need to get a certain number of rockets out with a certain ratio by the end of a level. Overall great game!

DEMON LOOP by dinosire 2020-10-05T13:05:48Z

I really liked this game. It was a really neat take on the theme and was pretty fun too. I'm very bad at it so I have yet to actually "win". Hoping I'm not missing much. The wand loop mechanic seems pretty solid, but I had difficulty avoiding the demons. They moved so erratically and there were so many of them that it was hard to tell which was going where. If you wanted to make it easier for the players, I would try making the demons move in straight lines, and ricochet off walls with regular angles. At least, that's what I would do I I were making this type of game. Best of luck in the COMPO

Virtual Chicken Staring Contest by TheLonewolf 2020-10-05T13:38:13Z

That audio for winning almost made my spill coffee all over my laptop! Overall, well done! The laptop is safe and the game is good. I didn't like that the timer disappeared at night, but that may just be a personal preference.

WhileLoops by Ausstein 2020-10-05T13:25:06Z

I loved this. It was pretty funny trying to frantically get out of the loop. Really good job! I only got a score of 35 but it was really interesting trying to manage different variables. I found it difficult to concentrate on the many pop-up windows so if that's the intent, A++. I do have to say, the colour changing background was difficult for me as well, it left me with a bit of a headache, although maybe playing fullscreen may have contributed to that too. Overall, great game!

Clone Arena by GrizzliusMaximus 2020-10-08T15:40:32Z

Really good game Chico! The graphics were really good and the game felt really responsive. I'm even more impressed at how well it runs with all of the clones and bullets in the level at once.

Torus Time Traveler by ProbeProb 2020-10-05T13:32:32Z

This was an interesting concept, it was a bit difficult to understand first, but I played going in blind. I appreciate a Linux build for any game and I would say it ran really well. The ending felt, not much like an ending, I was hoping for more menu/window items but otherwise great game!

Into the Space by Integrated_Rk 2020-10-20T15:27:26Z

I found that speed of 125 was the optimal difficulty for me. But also dying early allowed for a greater score to time ratio. Interesting choices here.
