I really love the graphics, and the camera, it's so chaotic and I love it!

kassie-kitsune 2020-10-06 04:48

tonnes of fun, perhaps a little bit dizzying, I think if the camera didn't follow the mouse so tightly a lot of that problem could be solved, and perhaps decreasing the gravity a little bit, it really didn't feel like there was much to the jumps and a lot of the platforms seemed impossible

otherwise, it was an absolute blast filling the screen with bullets using clones

sacer 2020-10-06 07:25

This is really fun, I love the graphics and especially the idea of old versions of you helping you :D

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-06 12:53

It is easilty among the best games I've tested so far. wow. good jooob. specially the "clone reset" option is just the perfect mechanic for this jam. + loved the art and art style. I myself am a pixel art artist and I know just how much time consuming it probably was for you to create those animations and backgrounds and stuff. great job.

grizzliusmaximus 2020-10-06 15:03

@arad-hamidsamiee Thanks! The background was added at the last hour. As you can see in the thumbnail, there are no mountains yet (I made the thumbnail before the bg). I wanted to add more stuff like jumping animation but ran out of time. Glad you liked it!

bentebent 2020-10-06 17:00

Calling this "action packed" would be a real understatement. Very cool, the controls are great and gameplay feels really crisp which is super important in this kind of game so very well done! My only gripe would be the zoom out, it's a bit to fast/jarring which makes it hard to use without disorienting yourself.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-06 17:40

A fine submission with chaotic, but still fun gameplay. I love movement.

vcasadei 2020-10-06 22:21

That's quite a nice game you have. Congrats on doing it in the time provided! The music is good, the variation of enemies as well. I particularly enjoyed the dead players.

josephdevelops 2020-10-07 02:46

Super hard game. Maybe I'm too old for this game.

blind-lemon-games 2020-10-07 03:30

@josephdevelops yeah it was hard like graphics and sounds, wished gravity was lighter. enemies were sniping :)

snowinn 2020-10-07 03:37

I really love this game ! I've seen multiple other games with the looping players movements characters (which I still think a creative mechanic) but they were mostly to solve platformers. A game where every time I die, the previous version of me joins in the fight against the enemies ? That's awesome! It was quite difficult dying after a single hit, but it added to the fun because soon there were an army of player characters fighting 😂. Great job!

almost 2020-10-07 04:12

Very fun! I died a ton. I made it to the far-left and far-right powerups, I was not able to make it to the top powerup. I had a few clones spam the triple-shot attack in the far right area to get a high score of 62. I liked the way that there was some timed platforming puzzles in addition to the action. Bumping my head while jumping was a bit awkward. There were also some times when I clip through moving platforms from the side or from below.

dharby 2020-10-07 04:17

Very hectic! A nice, fun game. Good job!

layne-stokes 2020-10-07 05:09

Really great game! The clones are a really good way to stop death from feeling so bad to the player having an army of clones helping keep you alive feels great. This combined with the fact that only your kills count towards a high score means you still need to put in work to progress in the game.

The art is also another highlight. Great aesthetics with a clear visual distinction between the background and enemies making it easy to focus despite the game being hectic. The only gripe I have is the camera it would be cool to have an option to tune to your preferred tracking. Overall a really great, fun action game!

jakegilla 2020-10-07 05:33

This is great work, The chaos is great, everything that should be frustrating ends up encouraging because you know your clones will still be there to help you!

marbles 2020-10-07 05:49

Really fun! I keep on making clones that keep on shooting to cover for me but I still die anyway  But I can't get the gun on the left side.

I'm curious, how do you record your actions and play it the exact same way?

shortbread 2020-10-07 06:15

Awesome way to use your clones, you have to really think about how you're going to time things in the future or just make a absolute s*** tonne and hope for the best :joy:

grizzliusmaximus 2020-10-07 06:29

@marbles The clones and the player have the same movement script. However, the players movement is mapped to the keyboard whereas the clones are mapped to a list of instructions. this list of instructions is constructed by the player. Every step, the keys pressed and shoot angle is added to the list. Note I am using GameMaker, which is by default step based, not time based.

neowhoru 2020-10-07 07:33

Really funny game - i like the "Super time force" like replay mechanic of my ghosts^^.

karolina-lewszyk 2020-10-07 07:50

Nice game! I really like the art style, especially the creatures. I would have played longer but the camera movement, as much as I like it, simply isn't for me. Made me very dizzy in the end. Overall great fun though :)

cosmicpickle 2020-10-07 09:03

This was a really fun game. I was impressed by the snappy controls. It's original, the artstyle is great and the music is fitting. The only issue I had is with the top three platforms moving in a circle in the upper part of the arena. When I jump up the camera jerks up and it is impossible to see the other two platforms. Tried it like 50 times and gave up. Maybe I just need to git gud. I do think the jerky and dynamic camera fits the game, however in that particular case a little less vertical lookahead might be better, so you can actually see where you are jumping. Other than that - amazing game.

andidebob 2020-10-07 09:05

This is so much fun! It gets cofusing after a while, but I like that hitting the flag resets your clones. This is a super cool idea and really well implemented. Nicely done!

invader 2020-10-07 11:07

Cool game! Nice pixel art and really intensive gameplay.

The trick with previous you respawning is a treasure alone by itself. Definitelly deserves more than 5 stars for innovation :)

Good job!

toulou 2020-10-07 12:40

Fun game! It turn into a mess very quickly but I like that a lot. Especially the graphics, theses are very cute pixel art! Only problem, the controls are maybe too fast for me, I ended up dying a lot because I couldn't land a jump. But overall, great game, good job!

macmist 2020-10-07 12:50

Super fun game! I'm not super good at it but I enjoyed playhing it. The idea is great, and very well executed, with nice graphics, well done!

garywiss 2020-10-07 12:52

Nice game, the graphics are neat and the clone mechanic is really fun. Good Job !

gurigraphics 2020-10-07 12:57

I liked the pixelart and animations. That didn't have it in my game. :) The programming also has a lot of details. This is the most difficult to make that is hidden from players. Players only remember that programming exists when a bug appears. :)

grizzliusmaximus 2020-10-07 14:06

@gurigraphics As much as I placed a lot of time on the pixelart, the programming surely took most of my time and effort. Thanks for appreciating both!

jhax 2020-10-07 15:28

Really cool, it's a lot of fun.

I'd be interested to see how much harder it would be if you could have friendly fire with your clones!

Was a good difficulty level for me as is personally though

grizzliusmaximus 2020-10-07 15:31

@jhax Everybody is complaining about the difficulty and you want it harder lol. I turned friendly fire off for the sake of the majority. Glad you enjoyed the difficulty!

beavergames 2020-10-07 15:36

I've seen this Idea before, but this one seems a lot more chaotic. gj, I liked it, especially the graphics.

meowmeowlitclub 2020-10-07 15:55

exciting motion ,and i like the teammate dseign

thomas-volpato 2020-10-07 16:27

Nice game, I just think the camera shake is too fast

wetburritosupreme 2020-10-07 16:52

Great game, I wish that dark souls did this, I loved having my clones help me out! Great job!

spaceguinea-productions 2020-10-07 17:00

this game is *Juicy*

quoclon 2020-10-07 19:26

One of the best 'looping' mechanics I've seen. I found the difficulty curve a little steep, but I really did like the concept and found myself playing it for a while. I felt a little dizzy/nauseous with the aiming and camera movement... and I preferred to be zoomed out (could it maybe be zoomed out all the time)? Honestly, of all the games I've played... this one as a concept might have the most potential.

akai-pixels 2020-10-07 19:31

Really cool game idea, the mechanics are really nice, and is really fun!

acuriosity 2020-10-07 19:35

What a game!

sztobar 2020-10-07 20:14

I love how you managed to fit the theme in the game. The only thing that it lackes is some kind of the endgoal, but it's still super fun to play and shoot eveything that spawns.

misterm 2020-10-07 20:32

Nice idea, for me the camera moves too fast with the mouse and at the start was a little bit crazy. Good job

seth-tal 2020-10-08 04:11

I really like the idea of a "reverse-bullet-hell" game. The most interesting component in this entry for me was actually the level design as I liked you could help future iterations of yourself get to certain places by hitting the buttons. Really clever game, great job!

dracominer 2020-10-08 15:40

Really good game Chico! The graphics were really good and the game felt really responsive. I'm even more impressed at how well it runs with all of the clones and bullets in the level at once.

thiago-nascimento 2020-10-08 19:19

Its messy and I love it

nikolay-zapolnov 2020-10-08 19:20

Hahaha cool idea! Great graphics and nice sound! On the other hand, camera movement is very inconvenient for me and I really dislike it. It would be better if it was more smooth. Also, it would be great to spawn at different parts of the level, so you would see your past selves coming on you, not all from the same point.

tutoa 2020-10-09 09:27

It's a fun game! It was very challenging. I was terrible at it, but I tried over and over again.

steventus 2020-10-09 18:25

Heya @grizzliusmaximus , I think this was quite a mixed bag for me. Maybe because it's not exactly my type of game persay, but I do have some suggestions that I think will help the game better even for my short playtime. Let's go through the positives first:

1) The art is good! What you've done well, and I'd like to highlight this because it's exceptionally important, is that the ground is very easy to see and therefore, easy to know where you can stand. The small background elements, the strong contrast with bullets all works well too. You've created good visuals that play well, and looks good too.

My most major qualm with this game would have to be:

1) The movement does not feel that good to play around. The moving platforms move too fast, the player falls too fast are some of the more prominent issues I have. Take into consideration that an average human's reaction time is around 0.30ms (I think.. I did not double check that.., but the point is, there is an average human response rate) which you should design your gameplay around.

I think with this bullet hell-esque gameplay, the player could also make use of a dash button to quickly move out of bullets.

I think the game is okay. It's definitely not my type of game once I got into it but I wouldn't say it's average. There is good work put into this and it shows. Good work!

le-don 2020-10-09 20:24

Great game and mechanics! But I think coordinating the button on the right side can be hard. But it would be helpful if there is some kind of alt-fire, that let's you kill your previous clones. Also what makes it really hard and even a bit unfair are the sudden enemy spawns. Maybe you should check the distance between a spawning enemy and the active player, before the enemy spawns. And please add an escape exit key/button, otherwiser there seems to be no handy way to exit the game in fullscreen mode.

grizzliusmaximus 2020-10-10 04:25

@le-don Congrats my friend! You are the first to ever download the game :) Yes, there is an unfair spawn the enemies make and that was my fault. I'm going to definitely fix that in the post game jam

@steventus Thanks for the review! I agree, all the qualms mentioned are stuff I wanted to fix. The dash was always on the to-do list but I ran out of time. The platforms are something I haven't made much effort balancing. platforms + enemies + moving camera = hard platforming. Take note of that if you want to make a platform game. I learned it the hard way.

Cool game, only issue I found was movement seemed a little glitchy in one area (getting stuck trying to jump onto the the vertical moving platforms) enjoyed the game regardless though! Nice job!

johnnysix 2020-10-23 14:03

Great stuff, the bullet hell + clones was a riot. If you continued this post-compo - a little more finess / reliablility on the collisions would be cool. Though it felt pretty solid, I felt like I missed more than I should have on some platform edges.

The enemies appear random too - it'd be cool if , upon reset, your clone killed the same enemy etc, so you could build up some interesting sequences / puzzles with successive clones killing a wave of flying beasts etc.

Solid work!
