Hey! I really liked the mood of the game, very creepy and sad! Good job guys! :)
Simple art, but this is cool game)
Wow how depressing, but that's what you were going for so good job. I also liked the way the map shrinks with the trail of depression; I think that not only does it enhance the connection with the theme but also it creates some very tense gameplay.
Well done!
The game's theme is a veyr interesting take on the "Small World" theme. The story is rather compelling and the music and game mechanics help to support it. The graphics felt like they didn't really fit. A dirtier and more roughly viewed graphics would probably fit better. Perhaps rough, hand drawn sketches would look best. Maybe applying a noise function to the entire screen with variation over time would be very cool looking. The graphics look just fine for now but they could look better if you want to expand this game. My biggest problem with the game is that it's too short. The story and the agme set itself up to be a long and arduous struggle of a man battling his own depression while trying to save his girlfriend from her maze. Overall, I love the game and would definitely play it again if there was more content.
I must agree with @dracominer when it comes to graphics, it's a bit off, even though the characters look good. The use of music and sound effects is perfect. The story is good - I liked the nonverbal intro. Parabéns à equipe.
I really enjoy the challenge of the game and the mood you set. I feel like the transition between the maze running and death is a bit jarring. All around great job!
a maze ing story, bro hammer.
nice story good job
I agree with a previous poster, the saturation and contrast from the visuals didn't really fit the game thematically, after reading the synopsis I was expecting something much grimmer and dustier. The audio department was fitting in nicely, but overall I was expecting more from the tension you tried to build since the game is very short.
Neat idea, though I found some issues with it.
- art could be grittier overal (which could be easily achieved with just palette and more 'sketch'-y feel to it - pursuer has a HUGE hitbox, so narrow escapes are not really a possibility - girfriend seems to be placed randomly (or the maze is really confusing), but each time I was just about to reach her, pursuer showed up behind her, and again - his HUGE hitbox always caught me before I could touch her (since we were colliding head-on). I gave up after 30 minutes, so I never reached the finale.
The 'tron' like trace the pursuer leaves is a good idea, adds to the feeling of desperation and closes paths, fitting nicely into the premise you set up.
Audio seems fitting, though not with the game over / dead screen.
Idea, though aiming at a deep metaphor, takes a really simple approach - intro sequence starts out good, but the overall backstory is a bit too formulaic. It could e.g. hint better at depression, or something carrying a bit more weight than a simple breakup (that's what it looks like to me at least).
Overall, I like your take on the theme, but, even with LD constraints, this had the potential to leave a bigger mark. With games that take on serious topics, it's really important to work on immersion and the philosophy behind the game itself.
Leaving my rating and please don't take my feedback in a wrong way, it's meant to give you some pointers on how to make this game better - you did not choose an easy task, after all.
Cheers!
Had fun playing this game! Took me a while to find the girlfriend! I like the music and whole atmosphere of the game! But i wish the game had some tighter controls! Fine job!
Well done. Good mood. I had fun playing your project. Overall, I like your take on the theme ++
I love the way you approach the theme. Visually it's simple but I liked the mood. The music was perfectly chosen to reinforce the aura of depression which the game transmit. The gameplay is an common maze game but it isn't so easy to resolve. Overall this is a nice game to play. Good job.
Nicely done, the combination of colors (or lack thereof) and music creates a pretty depressing mood. Good take on the theme.
OK ... now I am depressed :P. But seriously ... the concept of the game was very good and the music really helps with the black graphics and story. The controls were simple and the map transforming to black was brilliant. Good job!
Great job. I couldn't find the girlfriend and I got stuck a lot but that seemed to add to the mood of the game. To an extent you seem to have taken things that are usually annoying and bad and made them help the mood of the game. Most of the time when people do that it doesn't work so good job.
I not have Windows but game looks interesting. Good job!
