LD38 — A Small World

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-05-12T19:40:44Z

Hey I loved this game. I thought the gameplay was intriguing with an interesting mechanic to boot. My only real gripe is I feel the sound design got rather annoying very quickly; I would suggest maybe a smoother, more ambient song maybe?

Anyway great game, loved playing it.

Get Off My Lawn by xentai-inside 2017-04-28T16:19:27Z

Hey I really liked this game. The art style and sound design do a lot to make the game unique. I also liked how you managed to keep the mechanics themselves simple and easy to understand; I was able to get right in without a learning period, which is always good.

I did have an issue with the end boss; the upwards aiming isn't always reliable to the keypress, but I'm sure that can be fixed. I also for some reason expected a defend the point style game, so I spent the first 5 minutes hanging around at the start stopping the enemies from leaving the stage. Maybe that's just because I'm dumb! =)

Anyway, great job! Hope you had fun this year. We certainly did. Feel free to check out our entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/k-r-a-b-s /shameless self promotion

Is fast by qristofer 2017-04-28T16:24:45Z

Hey I thought the game was okay, don't be so down on yourself!

Yeah i liked the gameplay; it was difficult but in a fun way rather than a frustrating way. I gather that there is going to be some sort of combat system? I noticed the radar in the bottom left which would suggest as such.

I like it, and I'd like to see a finished version!

Also check out my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/k-r-a-b-s

Violent Goat by Pixelcode 2017-04-28T16:10:41Z

Hey good job on your first Ludum Dare. It was my first this year as well!

I liked the game; it was simple and easy to understand, which is great. I also liked the music and the design in regards to the artwork. My only real gripe was my tendancy to get stuck in the walls, but I'm sure that can be fixed in future.

Overall great job! Hope you enjoyed yourself.

A Sassy Platformer by DragonZlay 2017-05-12T19:20:20Z

Wow all those memories of MLG parodies are coming back thick and fast. Anyway some cool things here. I like Daniel's Sass and the levels seem interesting and well put together. I would suggest making the jumping lighter and more bouncy; at the moment it's a bit stiff.

Great overall though cheers.

Space Ship: Andromeda by julianeder33 2017-05-04T13:17:56Z

I think this is a really impressive entry; I love the scale of the map and the mystery plot. I would say that if you are going to make a map of this scale, you might want to have a way to move around the map faster. When I was in the housing section it felt like it was taking forever to move anywhere. Very interesting concept though look forward to its development.

No Minor Task: Party of a Lifetime by XAVIER_INDIE_GAMEDEV 2017-04-28T16:41:30Z

Hey I liked the presentation and the art style and I like the fact that there is a story; gave me a few chuckles (although, with respect, the fourth wall breaking could be a bit more subtle, but that's just me). I thought the gameplay was fun and interesting also, but it took me a few plays to make any progress. I found it quite difficult; I don't know how others got on with it.

I was thinking maybe what might help would be if adults had some sort of vision cone so you can see where they are looking/what they can see. When there are lots of characters on screen it isn't always easy to tell; I failed quite a lot as a result of people I couldn't see too clearly.

Great game though and I can see you and your team put a lot of time into it. Hope you enjoyed yourselves! See you next year?

Dog Park Lovers by muffintrap 2017-04-28T16:29:05Z

Hey I loved the artwork and the presentation, plus the comedy value in the Barkbook conversation. I would love to see a bigger version of this, maybe with the player being able to take part in the conversation themselves. Plus some audio would be cool as well.

Good work though! I hope you enjoyed yourself. Check out my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/k-r-a-b-s /selfpromotion

Deep Bottom by LMG613 2017-05-03T13:31:44Z

Wow how depressing, but that's what you were going for so good job. I also liked the way the map shrinks with the trail of depression; I think that not only does it enhance the connection with the theme but also it creates some very tense gameplay.

Well done!

AXL-5 by PUARSLIBURF 2017-05-03T14:36:22Z

Hey I think the game is really cool, nice retro platformer feel to it, and I like the consistency of the design. Also a minor thing but I really like the browser build 'cause downloading can be a pain.

That said I think the game could be improved by adding WASD support, 'cause sometimes the arrow keys can get annoying to use.

Overall it's great though keep it up.

Project Alpha by TMW 2017-05-03T21:37:36Z

I think this is all quite impressive, especially considering you're a one man team with 72 hours. I personally didn't run into any of the problems that other's seemed to; I found the interface to be quite intuitive. I also liked the polish of the gameplay; I think with more work this could easily be a great game.

My only real gripe is the somewhat tangential connection to the theme. I'm not entirely sure how this is reflecting a small world at all.

But hey, I enjoyed myself so good job.

Weird Cubes by Justus Pousi 2017-05-04T13:29:29Z

I think this game is great! It's a nice puzzle game with interesting ideas with regards to interaction with the environment. Plus it has a very quirky visual style which I really enjoy. Very good work, would love further development.

LD42 — Running out of space

Cunctan's Square by Ajayajayaj 2018-08-13T19:05:43Z

Had a lot of fun with this, made me scratch my head a fair bit once I'd got past the first couple of levels. The algorithms for the red square movement must have taken a while to work out at a conceptual level; I'd be intrigued to know what your process was =).

Potatoxxx by Zorongo 2018-08-13T19:11:44Z

This game is legendary. I was laughing all the way through! And you guys put so much effort into the presentation as well! Loved it.

Dear Leader's Diet Plan by Historymaker118 2018-08-13T18:21:20Z

@ajayajayaj Yes we did make the audio =) glad you enjoyed it! If you have made a game link it here and I'll play it!

Dear Leader's Diet Plan by Historymaker118 2018-08-13T18:59:55Z

@ghen cheers for the review, glad you had fun! Also the music is actually a metal reimagining of a North Korean military song which I got from a documentary. Was a lot of fun to work on!

Dear Leader's Diet Plan by Historymaker118 2018-08-13T19:15:10Z

@genmai Pinball is a capitalist game, which our glorious socialist revolutionary songun game bears no similarities! Jk, glad you liked it, and yeah maybe pinball elements might be something to look into!

Consensual Love in a Dungeon (NSFW) by darefus 2018-08-21T09:37:25Z

I can't get this game to work? On my laptop it complains about a missing dll and on my desktop both the fullscreen and windowed versions just crash on startup.

Consensual Love in a Dungeon (NSFW) by darefus 2018-08-21T10:08:45Z

nvm got it to work. Really funny and cool game. Loved the open ended nature of it!

Loneliness by Saering 2018-08-13T20:28:40Z

Excellent and genuinely creepy, well done! Especially on the knocking sound, on my headphones I genuinely thought someone was knocking on my door, really made me jump. I would question, however: am I intentionally not allowed to walk forwards? Or is that a bug?

memBrain by Sciman101 2018-08-13T17:19:46Z

Hey really cool game! I loved the map data mechanic, thought that was pretty nifty. One criticism I could level however is the lack of tutorialisation in regards to controls; it took me a while to work out how to cycle through and delete map data. Cool overall though, good job!

One Man's Trash by mike_inPrinciple 2018-08-13T18:56:45Z

This game has the best sound effects. Genuinely loved it!

Arrows by JimmyC 2018-08-16T19:10:36Z

Who knew Elgar could work in 8-bit? Cool game, love how such simple mechanics can lead to engaging gameplay.

LD44 — Your life is currency

AVida by ghust1995 2019-05-02T22:31:00Z

Tugged at my heartstrings. Simple but effective.

Mine Corp. by Hadik 2019-05-01T21:59:35Z

Lovely polished and fun game which looks great. Had a lot of fun with all the powerups, nice variation. Seems a minor complaint but it would be nice to be able to just hold the mouse button down for the lightning strikes rather than having to click repeatedly; my finger started to hurt after a bit. Also some background music might be nice.

Overall had a great time though.

Your life is my money by squaredev 2019-04-30T16:17:27Z

Really love everything about this game, nice work!

PepperTony by designernap 2019-04-30T15:56:36Z

Wow I suck at this game. I need to git gud.

But yeah like what you've done with the theme; an interesting and unexpected idea. Also the sounds and music are great (love the little sneeze when you pepper a toast correctly).

My main criticism is that I'm not entirely sure how you're supposed to pepper the toasts on the end. I keep falling off 'cause I can't get back fast enough and I still don't have enough reach.

Nice game overall however.

The Garden by Tattomoosa 2019-05-02T18:48:30Z

Lovely unique ideas with some very interesting stuff going on. Liked the visuals and music, really chill vibe.

Just a small bug - you can click in places on the top bar where you haven't unlocked anything and it'll still decrease health.

Insert Coin by gil4 2019-05-03T16:38:52Z

Lovely game in all respects, even if I did get repeatedly trapped in a spike pit. Thank you for making this.

The Steep Price Paid in Grey Dale by kloscunha 2019-05-02T18:34:13Z

Cool to have a horror take on the theme. Lovely atmosphere and soundtrack, with great writing. Also VHS effect, love me some of that.

Perhaps some more challenge in the gameplay? Maybe finding the clickables yourself rather than having them pointed out to you?

Really cool though had a great time.

noPRAVDA by katamary 2019-05-04T15:03:59Z

Really cool art and sound, gameplay feels nice to play also. The only real issue is my personal skill, which is poor. I need to git gud.

Seaway by Constantin 2019-05-04T14:35:32Z

Love the visuals and especially the fog-of-war style viewport. Makes exploring feel good. Would have preferred WASD for moving the boat just so I can be quicker on the dodge during naval battles.

Zoltan's Idea by Fanu 2019-05-05T14:55:03Z

Had a lot of fun with this. Loved the kitties plus all the minigames were varied and interesting. Also loved the music, very catchy.

I can't get the hang of Carpet fun though. I seem to puke exactly where it tells me to but it still tells me I'm doing it wrong.

Kappetalize by Bojkott 2019-05-01T22:18:54Z

Successfully lured a tailing cop into the street and got him run over by an armoured car, which then dropped all its money. 10/10 would be a dangerous money-grabbing hobo again.

Lousy Life Lessons - [LLL] by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2019-05-06T17:07:21Z

Love the voice acting in particular, and the presentation of the whole thing. Makes what would have otherwise been a simple 2d platformer into a very memorable experience. Loved every moment I spent with it.

Triple Laser Death March by BinarySpark 2019-05-06T17:40:51Z

Nice game that was fun to play. also runs surprisingly well in a web build. I would point out however that while the weapon upgrades were all varied and interesting, in terms of effectiveness I actually found that the standard plasma pistol was better, so maybe the weapons need balancing.

Other than that though I had fun with this entry. Keep it up!

Long live the king! by PixelSplash 2019-05-02T19:10:37Z

Cool stuff here with some great sound and art. I would suggest some more in game tutorialisation though, as it took me a few minutes to understand what was really happening.

Special Steak by Nalozyc Shade 2019-05-07T17:47:28Z

Was pretty cool. Liked that whole chopping my own limbs off thing. Also the humour in the news updates between days was really fun. I would argue that it would be more fun as a game if the orders came thicker and faster, as I sometimes spent quite a bit of time waiting around. Either way was a cool game, good job.

Teller Me More by hollowspecter 2019-05-04T14:49:03Z

Really cool game, loved the stress of having to multi task. Characters were all fun to chat to as well. It would be nice for the game to give more feedback about whether you are doing well/playing correctly. I thought I was doing really well but then at the end of each day it kept saying my customer happiness was well into the negative and I'd made no money so I'm not sure if I was doing it right.

Courtyard Madness by X Budsterized X 2019-04-30T15:51:05Z

Nice game, also found the dragon, and got killed by it.

I would suggest maybe kicking the difficulty in a bit earlier, as I never really needed to use the fountain. Still a cool game though; shooting works nice and there is a good variety of powerups and the like to keep up the motivation to explore.

I D E N T I F T Y by Psychedelia 2019-05-03T16:45:49Z

Best ending first time yay! Anyway lovely game with cool new ideas, needed to use my brain a bit as well. Would love some ambient music just to add to the mood a bit.

PizzoTyping by Carpin 2019-05-05T15:03:28Z

Cool, I got to day 7 before the mafia broke my legs. Like the game, really well designed from a holistic standpoint. I especially love the way you tutorialised the mechanics of the game by making you type the mafia conversations at the start.

Beyond the Slot by Beebo Studios 2019-05-01T23:02:28Z

Loved the puns, and an interesting concept. Had a great time.

Sigillis by JUSTCAMH 2019-05-05T15:18:23Z

I really like everything about this game. I would go into detail but I doubt I will say anything that hasn't already been said by others =)

The Fabulous Wandering of Gorgeous Inconspicuous Piggy Bank 9000: Amazing Pigsy by EvilSock 2019-05-07T16:46:19Z

Has a Hotline Miami vibe to it, especially with those mushrooms! I enjoyed my time with it. Maybe you could have a way for the coins collected to do something to the gameplay? I noticed that getting to the end without getting all the coins was just as viable a strategy, so maybe find a way to make getting the coins a bonus.

Just a suggestion though, well done nonetheless.

Blency by Nebrazif 2019-05-10T15:40:53Z

Pretty cool game. Gameplay feels nice and the upgrades make things varied and interesting. Just a little niggle, could you allow automatic firing with the mouse held down? Having to click everytime I want to fire is a bit annoying when the gun is supposed to be a cherry tapper.

Anyway nice entry, hope you had fun!

Hell's Factory by Oscar onix 2019-04-30T16:16:48Z

A cool idea. I would suggest maybe experimenting with the UI and controls; I had difficulty understanding what I was doing initially. Also I seem to make money regardless of what I do.

Nice work on the sounds though, nice mood setting.

TheDescent by geist_191 2019-05-03T16:20:52Z

Nice work with the UI in particular, great use of space in the screen. Liked the concept and gameplay, plus the sounds were good quality. Little niggle but would be nice if I could just give small amounts of blood to the doors rather than having to go full wack and kill myself everytime I want to open a door that needs more than 3 blood drops.

Overall I had a good time though so well done.

Abscond by Hans1203 2019-05-03T17:29:57Z

Yay for robot paradise! Nice simple game that plays well, with easy to understand rules. I'm not entirely sure how apples relates to the ATM's quest for robot paradise but the mechanic worked well. I would probably replace the word "depositors" in the instructions with "withdrawers" just to avoid confusion about what they do.

You Need Coins by FireDragis 2019-04-30T15:41:50Z

Hey cool little game you've made. It does a good job of letting you learn stuff at your own pace rather than just telling you everything.

Just a suggestion maybe you could make it endless so the amount of coins you need increases everytime you hit the target rather than having to make multiple levels.

Cool though!

Monetized Memories: A cautionary tale by mooseandloon 2019-05-03T16:29:06Z

Hey cool concept and nice gameplay. Would have loved to hear some sound to help tug at the hearstrings a bit. Also maybe some memories could be more powerful than others? But then losing them could hurt you in bigger ways. Just a suggestion.

Anyway cool game, nice work.

Grim Deeper by FalseBracket 2019-05-02T18:59:30Z

Really cool game with lovely graphics and sound. Liked the atmosphere and the combat felt very streamlined. I need to git gud though turns out I suck at this.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Burned by the Poi by Risist 2020-04-26T09:37:58Z

Loved the music and aesthetic, gameplay was interesting and fun too. I liked how you could light torches along the way to help you refill your fire and see where you were going. Might seem gruesome, but I would've liked to see maybe some sort of blood spatter or some sort of particle effect when you kill a red eye, sometimes in the mayhem it's difficult to see if you are actually having an effect.

Nice game though, well done.

Slovenian Explorer-X by Maja Salamon 2020-04-26T09:59:05Z

Not gonna pretend I wasn't attracted to this by the title =). Graphics, music and technical prowess were great (that cutscene at the start, mmm mm). That said I do think that maybe some sort of onscreen prompts during gameplay would help people know which system does what and how to interact with it; sometimes it's unclear if your astronauts are actually doing anything or if you are in the right place.

Bestseller by Roboimuri 2020-04-26T10:16:00Z

"GET TO WORK YOU SCOUNDREL" - best noise of LD46. Also the game was fun, even though I killed the writer every time. Loved the artwork too. Cool game, well done.

I think I am going to die by SparkCoder 2020-04-25T10:08:54Z

Great game, what a rush! Loved the frantic gameplay and the music. I'm not entirely sure how to defeat or avoid the turrets that shoot you but I had fun with it. Great job!

Chill Thrive by JDK2209 2020-04-25T09:26:15Z

Loved this game, especially how you've managed to make an engaging loop with such simple mechanics. Music was great, very much added to the very chilled atmosphere. The art style was cool as well; again, simple yet effective. Initially I also wasn't clear on how the wind worked but I worked it out on second play. Thank you for a gret game.

The Last Cactus by HomunculusGames 2020-04-26T09:45:10Z

So it turns out I suck at this. I don't mind though; the game was fun and well made enough to keep me hitting that retry button. Loved the frantic nature of the gameplay, and the graphics; would love to see continued development on this. Btw just so you are aware I had a minor graphical bug wherein gunshots would remain on screen and never disappear.

. less by theboywhomakesgames 2020-04-29T18:00:55Z

Don't know if this was the intended effect, but I actually found a lot of the voiceover to be quite funny, got some laughs out of me. Maybe that's just me. Great atmosphere and cool meta presentation with such a simple mechanic. Great work!

Oh No, Ozone! by TechnoLad 2020-04-26T09:27:29Z

Cool game, had fun with it. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I found I couldn't repair ozone holes unless I was moving over them; staying still and spraying ozone doesn't seem to do anything.
