I really had fun playing your game and I find it quite responsive and intuitive although we found a little issue on the Web Build that make it hard to play.

When I tried to go up and my friend shot me it closed the tab. #Ctrl-W

Anyway, awesome graphics, great concept, keep it going post-compo ! :D

A super fun local multiplayer fighter, high speed and easy controls.

Very nice sounds effect and music as well!

(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/_Upt3PIzndo?t=1h52m17s _[single player test at the request of the dev]_ )

gaffa 2017-04-28 22:14

This was really an amazing game! very responsive, and got a very good feel to it!

jamgrrl 2017-04-28 22:26

A local two-player, and I didn't have a second player. I think the goal is to eat all the blobs on the screen and grow bigger before your opponant does, and you can use the bullet to stun. Reminded me a bit of a 2-player version of http://agar.io/ only you can't eat your enemy. :D

Very polished music, too.

drazil100 2017-04-29 00:37

While I could't really play this game to its full potential (as I lacked a second player) it DID control pretty well. I would love to try this if I had a second player to play against!

xavier-indie-gamedev 2017-05-01 04:27

Nice game:) I was only able to play single player but I could see how this would be fun!

Music and SFX were cool (the robot voice hahah), and graphics fit well. Controls very smooth. Stun sound a bit loud.

I did forget the controls once it started and had to refresh the whole game, but I'm sure you would have had a menu page and all that with a bit more time.

Good effort:)

If you get time, please do also check out my game! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/no-minor-task-party-of-a-lifetime

Good concept, but both gameplay and mechanics should be polished to be funnier to play. I also liked music and artistic style.

@togis I actually just got on in time for the livestream on twitch! I don't have an account however so I merely watched. Historymaker seemed to be in chat helping you along though which is great. The feedback was very much appreciated and thanks for the publicity!

theclinthennesy 2017-05-01 18:51

@max-carter Hey Man! Just tried the game out with my friend.

So first off- I just want to throw it out there that I really enjoyed the effects of the game. The art and the music felt really nice- and I play a lot of fighting games- so the "3... 2... 1..." countdown just felt very intense.

In gameplay though- I did feel like it felt very sticky to move... I'm not sure- but I played the Web Version- and the FPS wasn't exactly smooth. So I think that should have been something you guys tested out. FOr the web- the game is fine- but when the shockwaves start emitting- it legs terribly.

I had to download the game. Like most people- i wasn't able to play it to its best since it WAS multiplayer! But I was able to feel the movement and impact without any FPS issues after downloading it. :D

max-carter 2017-05-01 19:18

@theclinthennesy Thanks for playing man! Yeah unfortunately the web build is lower quality in almost every aspect (we had to lower it for the web build) but we thought we'd make one just in case people can't download it. It's unfortunate it's not as smooth as the downloaded version and the lag is a huge issue. We've got an AI in progress so 1 player should be possible at some point in the future. We realised making a 2 player local multiplayer game was a bit risky from the start but now we're expanding so it'll hopefully be less of an issue soon.

Thanks for all the feedback, it's greatly appreciated! We'll work on doing something about that web build if we can!

jeremy-ryan 2017-05-01 20:55

Fun game. The web build kept making unintended Ctrl+W/A/S/D actions, and my network blocked the Windows standalone, but I got the idea from playing in the web. Very fond of the ripple effect on hit, graphics are generally pretty polished.

for-science 2017-05-01 21:03

Nice two player shooter. Making a local multiplayer game is always a risk, and this would definitely have benefited from even a simple AI opponent. Good to hear you are working on that. Too bad it wasn't ready for the jam.

The music and sound effects are spot on. I also liked the shock wave distortion graphics effect.

We tried playing the web version first, until we ran into the problem of Player 1 pressing Ctrl+S, which is a bad idea while in a browser. (We had that exact same problem in our game).

Overall, we both enjoyed playing your game. Can't wait to see it developed further.

schizoid2k 2017-05-01 23:59

Nice game... nice graphics and sound. I also agree that AI for a single player mode would be a great addition.

npizzle1 2017-05-02 11:11

ahhh i loved playing this game cool sound and the visual effects a very good too. Nice and responsive. Really good fun, well done!

fouralex 2017-05-03 09:12

I do not have friend with for now, but it looks good! I will come back with someone to be able to rate your game.

xykvy 2017-05-04 21:09

One of the best looking games I've seen so far, unfortunately, the webm version crashed several times on me, but besides that one little hiccup it's actually really fun!

archimagus 2017-05-05 01:33

My son and I played this. We had a lot of fun, and were jeering each other over hits, and missed shields. It makes for a really good single screen multiplayer game.

My biggest criticism is that the whole game is keyboard controlled, but you have to use the mouse to start it. Enter or something should start the game. Also, we couldn't find a way to start a new match after we finished. We would have likely played several rounds if we could have jumped right in. But after trying Esc. and it closed the game we were done.

Still, very fun game.

historymaker118 2017-05-05 09:54

@Archimagus Thank you for taking the time to play our game, I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. To address the issues you've raised, we are actively working on a more fleshed out and complete version of this game, and have added controller support, as well as clearer instructions on how to start the game (both players need to press the fire button to begin), and faster restart times (the game submitted for Ludum Dare does reset after ten seconds, you shouldn't need to quit and begin again, however we are aware this was not an ideal solution but was what we were able to get working in the limited development time available).

We're waiting for voting to close before releasing our improved version of the game, which also includes AI opponents, round length settings, additional game modes, and tournament brackets.

stanislav 2017-05-05 12:46

Very polished and nice art and idea!

mikea 2017-05-05 13:44

Different style of game, but I like it nonetheless :)

noddingtortoise 2017-05-05 15:01

Fun game with great graphics and audio! I did find it hard to see player one's score when they're at the top of the screen, but otherwise, a very well done game!

peachtreeoath 2017-05-05 18:13

Wow I'm impressed. I'm actually a fan of simpler/1-hit fighting games (Divekick, Bushido Blade) because it boils down mindgames to its essence and you achieved it here. The simple mixup of anticipating shooting/shielding was pretty fun, and it's always satisfying to feel like you outsmarted the other player.

random-storykeeper 2017-05-08 01:36

I played this with my sister. It was overall fun, but kind of slow. Maybe it's just my computer, heh, but it seemed like players just moved sluggishly throughout the arena. And it was confusing to know what the particles in the sky do. Other than this, the metres and score indicators were clear but not intrusive, which is great.

Probably my biggest issue with this game, other than the slow performance, is the controls. Even on a download build, using the Ctrl and Shift keys for either player can still mess around with changing the player's keyboard language, etc. Sure that can be changed back, but then again, mapping shoot and shield functions to the letter or punctuation keys, for example, can also resolve this to some extent. I've played some multiplayer games that have movement and shoot/jump (aka two functions), and the defaults usually are WASD and the G and H keys for player 1, and arrow keys and /. for player 2. Even the ability to remap controls would be a great touch.

Other than that, the game was fine for what it was. I like the robotic voice and the music. The background art was fascinating as well.

qristofer 2017-05-10 11:13

Good art, tho I'm not sure what I'm looking at (mecha-schimps-in-water but then there are trees... ah, must be an aquarium.) The music and sound design is coherent with the graphics, it's one of the few % of games here that has a clear art direction/stylization going for it, and I appreciate that.

julianeder33 2017-05-12 14:33

I like the graphic style! Remindes me a little of Portal. A single-player mode would also be cool if you continiue to work on it.

2017-05-17 11:51

Fun game!! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ-D40BBNhA
