LD38 — A Small World

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-05-01T17:21:43Z

HI played the game and enjoyed the art alot...

Though- I didn't really know where the entire thing was leading to. It seemed that "Nothing Happens" every 100 years every time I play.

As a suggestion though- I know the game has some sort of "Pet Earth" feel- so what I guess was missing was to have the "Earth" feel stuff? It just didn't feel right when the planet was on fire- and it only affected the population- yet the Earth has some sort of "Hat" on him to make it so like the Earth itself is a character?

Just some thoughts... :) :) :)

Obelisk by Orcolom 2017-05-02T16:44:10Z

Hi! I played your game! :D

So I'm not really a Puzzle Guy- but I did enjoy this. I sort of gave up after the 4th? or was it 5th level since the pace wasn't my type of game. xD

Regardless- I enjoyed it until it got "hard" (where i had to think). I really like the style of the art and this nice intelligent atmosphere the game provides. :)

It's definitely a game worth remembering. :D

More Room! by Skosnowich 2017-05-01T18:32:22Z

Hey man! Tried your game out. It was difficult to play at first- but after taking some time to re-try the tutorial, I think I got the gist of it and was able to play for a good 5-10 minutes or so! :D

Well- I think it seemed like an incredibly complex game for me- so it was hard to understand. I don't normally play a lot of strategy games- so this took some time for me to sink in and all.

It was a good experience in the end, but I do feel like simplifying the art and UI more would have helped keeping things easier to communicate! :D

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-02T06:53:48Z

Tried the game out! :D

I've played quite a bunch of games like this- so it wasn't something completely unfamiliar. :D

Still a fun game in the end. Would have really been fun with some sort of progression to add to expand on the game play.

Also- yes. For people who have not tried this type of game in the past would definitely need some sort of tutorial. It's not too complicated- but even simple stuff like "What I have to do" would really help first timers. :)

NT-Virus by fingamer 2017-05-01T18:22:32Z

Simple game! :D Played it.

One thing that kind of itches on me.

So you guys had enough time to make a quick cinematic for your intro- but there seems to be some lacking stuff when it comes to feedback. I think it would have been awesome if you guys could add a "Hit" effect after a click on a mob/character or so.

In Game Design- player feedback is super important. We want every input we do to have an output. It just felt weird to have no sort of animation when I made a click on the Virus.

Anyways. Fun game overall. Simple- and definitely loved the cinematic! :D

To do list by Finlal 2017-05-01T19:03:38Z

Just played your game. I love the art- but I assume this wasn't done by your team. :I Since you guys opted out.

As a game mechanic though... Hmm...

I feel like it was a bit difficult to know what objects were and what they were for. I understood that there was a To-Do List, but It was difficult to find out where to use these objects at and so-on.

I enjoyed the music and the art- and IT could have gotten tons better if there was more reception on selecting objects. :D

LDJam games are normally really small- and players don't often have the time to learn the the game too much- so its a lo easier if there was more feedback when using objects and so on. :D

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-01T18:05:54Z

@JorgeGameDev WOw. Thank you man! :D Yeah. the Game definitely isn't perfect. We had more design ideas and all- but pathing the damn Spiders in 3D really gave our team a difficult time! :o :D

And man. Thank you so much for the encouraging words and everything! I was starting to feel like "Oh no. 2.9k Games. OUrs is gonna get burried!" Hahaha.

But this gives me some cool motivation to maybe promote the game more a bit! :D

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-01T18:08:34Z

Quick Edit! I canceled the Opt-out for Audio- since @Kendro made all the audio for this game. (Which he joined in like- only on the last day! since we had so much issues with the pathing. xD)

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-01T18:54:59Z

@max-carter Yes! Just to answer that- with the Gingerbread Man- we only added that during the last 3-4 hours of our Jam. Man. We stayed up all night- and worked from 10 AM+ all the way to 9 AM+ (on our time's submission.) SO we weren't able to polish that side of the game.

Regarldess. Thank you so much for the feedback. Some of the stuff we were sort of aware of- but I guess I didn't think they'd be an issue in Gameplay. I would DEFINITELY DEFINITELY make sure our game is more receptive next time.

I actually pretty much can't wait for the next LDJAM. :D

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-02T04:57:53Z

Thanks for the feedback guys! :D

I'll reply to the ones with specific input. :D

@Moski Yes. Haha. We knew we wanted a game with spider shooting- and we definitely had a lot of more plans to add- but we ran out of time because getting the Spiders to work properly in the first place was a nightamre for our programmer! :D

And yeah- in the end. We only got the "Base" game out. Here was the original design spec- and as you can see- we were only to implement 1 out of the 3 plans. :(

SnowmanGameSpecs.jpg

@spaceemotion Camera's rotatable with dragging it off screen. I had no idea it would have been an issue until people start mentioning it. We originally made the Snowman rotate with A and D to left and right respectively- but it caused some weird bug for the carrots to rotate along the Snowman while in Mid-air. xD xD xD

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-02T16:25:59Z

@Spinaljack Yesss! :( We really wish we had more time to do this! xD

@samurai-spark WE weren't able to polish any of the SFX because we finished the pathing for the damn spiders on the 3rd day itself! xD We literally finished 20 minutes after submission hour! WE barely had any sleep as well. Man. @badscotsman was super tough coding this game! 16 hours with a few breaks in between. tsk. Juggernaut.

@JScotty I think this is because you played in windowmode! xD We actually intended this to be playable on web- but ofcourse, the cursor wouldn't rotate properly- so we had to make it downloadable so people can play full screen.

@xavier-indie-gamedev IT's totally fine man. Haha. Camera. Music Loop. And the delay on animation. This was a mistake on my part (Animation.) I initially intended a very strong anticipation for the shoot so the carrots would feel more impactful. In the end- it wasn't as fun as it could have been.

And Thank you all so much for the feedback guys. I'm very happy with this Jam because it's making me think on how we as Game Designers really have to Nail "smoothness" down. Haha. xD

Super Snowman Spider Showdown Supreme by TheClintHennesy 2017-05-06T18:50:15Z

@Skosnowich Thanks for the comments. Yes. We understand. Haha. We had the idea intact- but it we sort of "made up how things go" as time went by- so stuff like the camera, the shooting, and all that weren't as "locked on" design wise. :) Thank you so much for playing our game. :D

A Relatively Small World by Samusoidal 2017-05-01T18:38:13Z

Hey @Samusoidal Just tried your game out! :D

So... Well- like what most people said, it was pretty confusing to play. BUt I did get to the 3rd level- but then I got kind of stuck as well. :( And ofcourse- like what people mentioned, re-spawning DID take some time.

Anyways- I do really like the mood, tone, and the art altogether- and I think it's where the game is strong with. Narrative definitely was something I would vote up for you as well! :D If it were a category. :D

Against The Void by spaceemotion 2017-05-01T19:15:28Z

Alright. I played this Game.

I enjoyed it. A lot. I love it so much. I do feel navigation felt a bit "light"- and It did feel really difficult to move around- but here's what I like so much about it.

1) The use of space as an area as a mechanic. 2) The use of space and coins together- putting a high risk and reward with the closer the ships are= the more coins you get= but the riskier it can go through. 3) Buildings Turrets=needs more space=takes room.

Now. Maybe I'm just biased cuz I love defense games. :D And 2 of my past game jam games have been Defense games (lol)- But overall- Using space as a mechanic the way it was here was pure genius- and i haven't seen it done in other games before.

Definitely giving this a hefty bunch of points. :D

Against The Void by spaceemotion 2017-05-01T19:16:40Z

Oh=- DId you do the art as well?? If you did- Damn. That makes you a powerhouse of Code and Art! :o

Against The Void by spaceemotion 2017-05-02T04:47:55Z

@spaceemotion Wow. Haha. I'm very impressed then! :D Such a fun concept to mess around. I'm very jelly. xD

Congrats on this game. :) :D

No Minor Task: Party of a Lifetime by XAVIER_INDIE_GAMEDEV 2017-05-02T16:08:59Z

Tried the game out! :D

Enjoyed it as well. Simple to play. I did find it weird why he would "collect people". Everything was enjoyable overall!

I wasn't able to actually invite 200 people after two tries! But if there's anything I did learn from playing the game was that being specific with the number of points you have to achieve isn't exactly a bad thing. I got 160 on my first try before I died- and I was really pushed to try 200 on my second. :D

Definitely learned something here. Though- not sure if it were just my machine- but it lagged on the browser slightly.

Finally- The music felt nice as well.

I do have quick question. How did you guys decide to have "200" people as the target goal? :o Was this after some playtesting? haha

No Minor Task: Party of a Lifetime by XAVIER_INDIE_GAMEDEV 2017-05-02T16:28:21Z

@xavier-indie-gamedev Hahahah! That's incredibly funny how you guys had to change the entire mechanic after running out of time. But pretty smart how you guys still were able to ship this thing on time! :D

That's definitely an interesting way to re-scope an entire game. :P Kudos to that.

Cat Ed by Fedor 2017-05-02T16:50:55Z

HI Fedor!

I tried your game out! :D

It was very simple and easy to pick up. Kind of gets difficult- like what some people said- but I enjoyed it for a quick game jam game. :D

I also do love the pixel art of it. The purple and the blue look well together! :D

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-05-02T05:06:41Z

Just played the game- and thoroughly enjoyed it! :D

If anything- the controls did feel a bit difficult to go around with especially since there was this weird "float" feel. I'm not sure if it were entirely intended.

As for the art- I liked it. :D It would definitely be a fun game if it had a lot more power ups and features- but right now, it's strong enough as it stands as game.

Wish I had more people to play the game with- as playing Solo felt a bit too easy and I won my 4 rounds. :P

Down the Rabbit Hole by those-30-ninjas 2017-05-01T19:31:16Z

I loved it. And I really like the style/art of the game itself.

I don't play a lot of strategy games- so I would say this is probably the most complex when it comes to turn-based stuff. I wouldn't say the gameplay wasn't fun for me- It's just normally not that type of game I would play. :D

As for the aesthetics though. Like I mentioned, I liekd it. The music and the bloops bouncing effects give it a nice feel overall the game as well. I'm not sure why you guys chose to use green as a main color for the entire game- but I feel like purple might have given it a better "mystery/rabbit hole" feel. :P

Just a suggestion/some thoughts though.

Spermicorn by Fanu 2017-05-02T16:19:52Z

Okay. I played the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it! :o :D

The race was pretty simple. I do wish there were 2 things that could have been there that might have made the race have a bit more sense. 1- A rank/placer? I know it was a race- but I wasn't sure how many other sperms were infront of me. D: 2- I wasn't really sure when my "Boost" was up or down. It might have been cool to know that.

Also- there weren't any sound indicators when I horned another sperm beside me or boosted forward. Those would have made the race funner! :D

Now- as for the press X button. I think it was a nice touch. Definitely had a quick laugh with the dialogue! They were simple but meant a lot to the sperm. xD

So yeah. Thank you for the funny game. haha. I was kind of skeptical with using sperms at first- but after the dialogue towards the end- it made everything forgivable. :D

Thank you for the experience. :D

3D Vector Space Cab by Fell_TRSi 2017-05-02T05:13:37Z

Played the game.

Definitely something I spent more time on playing a bit. :D

I'm not sure if this is a bug- but everytime I collect the flag, I get 400 "points" straight and the game ends?

I liked the controls. IT was simple and rotating the world with left and right. And like the guy above mentioned, collision DID feel a bit off sometimes. There were times I was trying to hit the same object- and it took me 3-4 tries even after feeling like I bumped into it. Aside from that, navigating accurately with he < and > arrow keys can feel too fast sometimes as well. Not sure if that was intended gameplay-wise. :D

Overall- enjoyable, short game for a jam. Kudos for releasing the source code like that. :D I'm not a techy guy- so I'm not sure what you mean by that it's an emulator typa thing. xD

K.R.A.B.S. by limejuice123 2017-05-01T18:51:01Z

@max-carter Hey Man! Just tried the game out with my friend.

So first off- I just want to throw it out there that I really enjoyed the effects of the game. The art and the music felt really nice- and I play a lot of fighting games- so the "3... 2... 1..." countdown just felt very intense.

In gameplay though- I did feel like it felt very sticky to move... I'm not sure- but I played the Web Version- and the FPS wasn't exactly smooth. So I think that should have been something you guys tested out. FOr the web- the game is fine- but when the shockwaves start emitting- it legs terribly.

I had to download the game. Like most people- i wasn't able to play it to its best since it WAS multiplayer! But I was able to feel the movement and impact without any FPS issues after downloading it. :D

Song of Fungus by DGSpitzer 2017-05-02T18:30:32Z

Hi! So I played the game and got into it pretty quick.

The game was really easy to learn and pretty intuitive. I didn't get too far though! :D

If there's anything I can appreciate, it's the art. The way how the mushroom and the SFX contrasts so much looks incredible. Did you guys have some sort of concept art stage before executing all this? :D

Man. I just love the graphics. Great game over all! :D Definitely remembering this game. :D

Race against ferrum gigantes by JScotty 2017-05-02T16:34:59Z

Hey man! Played your game out!

I would say overall- it was pretty enjoyable. :D Switching music and diving. I love how I could make skid marks with my car when I swurved around. Hahaha.

IF there's anything I might be imagining it's lacking- it would be some sort of motive to last. While I was playing- I ended up getting to around 4k points- and I wasn't exactly sure how I was gonna lose. I'm not sure if the game gets harder- but it did feel a bit spontaneously underachieving as time went by. I felt like I had to get somewhere or could feel like the game gets harder- if you know what I mean. IT wasn't explicitly difficult to survive. Haha. So maybe that's why. xD

Still though. It was enjoyable and the music makes it super memorable. :D

Cosmic Cleaner by Burgee 2017-05-04T06:09:56Z

I played the game! :D And I enjoyed it. I got pretty far. around LEvel 15 or so.

It was fairly easy to understand overall. :D If there's anything- I think he red X was a bit misleading. I thought I was supposed to put the rock on the red X until I read the description that the Red X meant that was the last location where the rock was. :D

I liked the audio as well. Pretty neat and clean. Definitely the first game I've seen where you use an entire planet as a base ball! :o xD xD

New God in the Town by erdiizgi 2017-05-01T19:41:21Z

Hey man. I tried your game out. :D

Thanks for trying out my game too!

Anyways- Yes. Like most people said. It really didn't have too much of a goal! BUt don't worry- IT's only a jam- and it was an incredibly time-limited jam. :P :D

I think it also lacks some sort of "reward" system- and maybe a way to make things feel "less floaty".

Great concept with great opportunity to improve the game overall. And I love how you used the idea of being some sort of "god" to move people around. I definitely didn't think of that when we were brainstorming.
