LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

The More You Arm by Bamboy 2015-12-15T04:11:00

This game provides surrealist social commentary on the state of America, where we cannot arise to turn on the TV, but must consume and steal and reach into our neighbor's yard to take what is not ours, such that, instead of spending time with other people, we must eat them.

Does anyone even watch TV anymore? No. Instead, we play games where we still consume, only we do so interactively. The determination of the game's protagonist, nay, OUR determination to achieve such a level of laziness leaves us feeling empty, lacking in any sense of purpose or meaning. Those who seek to escape this pattern, instead of consuming, begin to produce, and in so doing, spend a weekend creating more fictions for others to consume. Fictions which we hope will be some sort of reflection of our own place in the universe.

This game accomplishes this goal. Please play through to the ending. The final scene is the capstone of this short, yet epic reflection of our inner demons. You will feel unsettled. Or at least... entertained.

LD38 — A Small World

Feed The Anthill by StaNov 2017-04-28T23:34:51Z

Cute little ant hill game. Gather twigs to grow the population, gather food to feed the population, until the population is too big to support it and your grand plan at exponential growth comes crashing to a halt and everyone dies. Just like life!

Fun music and sound effects, too.

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-04-28T22:12:36Z

An innovative little deck-building tower defense game. Cool art. Complex rules. Pretty surprised this was done in 48 hours. Needs some rough edges polished, but mostly with gameplay and balance, rules and controls... the dev itself was pretty polished. I didn't have any bugs or problems.

Psycho Paul by Raphael 2017-04-28T21:24:25Z

An alright game. I wasn't sure what the connection was between gathering objects and punching people. I wasn't sure what the goal was... Was I supposed to kill that stinking jerk who cheated on my wife? I killed a bunch of dudes in tall hats, and I didn't win, which probably demonstrates the futility of revenge killing.. I suppose. And in that sense, as a thematic story, it might have served its purpose.

Pity About Earth... by mwcz 2017-04-28T22:54:40Z

Fun little game. Man, the Universe really has it out for Earth! Easy controls. Good music and I liked the graphics as well. Gameplay was simple and effective. I liked saving Earth's scientists. May they colonists reach some kind of habitable destination in safety.

Space Hummus by dietzribi 2017-04-28T23:44:33Z

Really funny back story. I approve of using the adjective "space" to comedic effect. I'm not a fan of platformers, but I found this an innovative platform type, and was actually able to play a few levels. Then my poor hand-eye cordination got the better of me.

Good showing!

Nucleu by agentparsec 2017-04-29T00:03:04Z

Very innovative, relaxing and peaceful to play, while feeling like it "means something," in terms of it feeling very based on semi-accurate subatomic physics, personified. The music and soft graphics contribute to the relaxing feel.

It's playable on its own, but if considering expanding it out to a full game, one direction would be to turn it into a "Brief History of Time" type physics educator... let us know you're gathering hydrogen first, then helium, on up to higher elements as you go through different levels, and in different environments where such elements are build.

Or you could go many other directions with it.

Very impressed you did this in 24 hours.

Hamsterscape! by Dzik 2017-04-28T23:24:24Z

Well polished, good art. I love being able to make my own hamster car. I played as single player. I can see a high chance of goofy co-op fun with another player. The controls seemed a little overly-complicated, but I started getting the hang of it after a few minutes. This is a pretty great game that I'd like to see developed into a full-blown game.

Pizza Delivery In a Small World by Splandle 2017-04-28T22:39:29Z

Kinda fun. Would be more fun for a longer period of time if there were one additional gameplay element.. not sure what. Perhaps if, when people talk to you, you've got various choices to get them to leave you alone, and you have to figure out which choices work better on which "enemies".

Instead of making your character lose control and move in a line, it would be better if the "enemies" stood there and kept you from moving, as if they are chatting with you.

Game needs sounds.

Little Sprout Garden by Valmay 2017-04-28T23:02:55Z

This is a very cute, very zen, little sandbox. Way more visually stunning than I expected from an LD game. Creative as well. If this had game elements, like, if making things had a cost, and there was a goal, and there was more to discover over time, I would still be playing it. I'd like to see this developed further into a full game.

My Lonely Island by acid 2017-04-28T23:10:53Z

Small, cute gathering & building game. I could have used easier enemies in the first round, just so I could learn the mechanics better. But it's a good start for something like a Don't Starve type game.

Giant Friend by fixedgerald 2017-04-28T21:44:29Z

It's cute. Fun music. Controls a little clunky. A good effort. Gameplay was not to my tastes, but that might have improved with better controls, or more choice in where to walk (less of a track and more of an open world).

Powerless by Gleb Mineev 2017-04-28T22:49:33Z

It's like solving a Rubik's Cube while being on the Rubik's Cube. I love how much story is crammed into this very short game. It's worth beating it.

Fits the theme on multiple levels, including emotional.

K.R.A.B.S. by limejuice123 2017-04-28T22:26:12Z

A local two-player, and I didn't have a second player. I think the goal is to eat all the blobs on the screen and grow bigger before your opponant does, and you can use the bullet to stun. Reminded me a bit of a 2-player version of http://agar.io/ only you can't eat your enemy. :D

Very polished music, too.

Antnator by sachos345 2017-04-28T22:18:51Z

I'm not very much into platformers so I didn't get very far into the first level. Pretty impressive total showing for 48 hour Compo -- Fully developed world/story, all the art and sound done by one person. Cool!

Ant Colony Blitz by gread72 2017-04-28T20:58:18Z

Pretty fun prototype. If this were a fully-fledged RTS style game, I would play the hell out of it.

I lolled. I'm GenX and you nailed it. :D

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-25T00:36:44Z

I wish I could give more than five stars to graphics and mood. It hit me in the feels. One of the more polished LD41 games I've played. Vaporwave music was perfect. I liked the portrayal of how hard it is to read when depressed. It captured a sense of liminal space very well, too.

Turn Fighter by dp3rucha 2018-04-25T00:00:08Z

Some balance issues with not getting enough energy to really strategize and could really only do one low-energy move per turn. Good art and sound!

Recipe for Disaster by dragonslumber 2018-04-24T02:59:41Z

Was laughing the whole time, especially once I caught on to what I was supposed to do. I like the changing map, the awkward physics, and the whole concept.

Dungeon Typist by the_noffs 2018-04-26T00:00:19Z

Loved it. I'm a fast typer, so I felt some sense of power :)

Movement was a little "floaty." And I would have liked some indicator when I was doing damage vs. if I was missing or typing wrong. And of course it's a jam, but more content, like chests, would have been nice, and maybe additional combat moves for combos (like punch, fire, shoot, etc.) Or maybe even longer phrases and sentences to pull off spells and the like. :) Those are directions if you continue to develop the game.

Good job over all!
