The itch.io page is giving me a 404 error. Have you typed the URL in correctly? I'd really like to try this out.

fluffy 2018-04-23 23:47

@epicdude312 I'm still working on getting everything uploaded. The current version is also incomplete, of course (hopefully we'll have a better version done by the deadline).

epicdude312 2018-04-24 00:17

Ah, okay. I'll make sure to check this out when it's ready!

fluffy 2018-04-24 02:11

@epicdude312 The game's all finished and uploaded :)

Love the graphics and feel and the genre combination works really well! Great work!

kscorp 2018-04-24 03:39

I like the music. Sounds pretty good, although the breakout ball can get really annoying when it speeds up and hits things like crazy. I got it stuck for a short time and it was just flying around the screen beeping at me!

Pretty fun! I don't fully understand what I should be doing with the breakout portion though, I don't have enough control over the ball so to me it's just a random element of the game. If you fix the breakout portion to be easier to control this would be much better!

Really good idea for the theme! The ball got stuck several times and made it really hard to survive, which made it more chaotic and exciting than normal ol' tetris.

Nice!

Awesome game, my privilege to play it :smile_cat:

Good parts: I liked the use of the theme and how you made both games work together. There was this really cool retro vibe to the whole experience that made the game feel more arcade-like. The music was so smooth & perfect for the game too, a beautiful throwback to the original soundtrack.

Ok parts: I liked the "old arcade machine" graphical vibe and there were some snazzy special effects. In the heat of a difficult game, however, these effects were mildly distracting since they were right behind where the player's focusing. I liked the scoring too - would be so nice if there were leaderboards or something!

Ideas for next time: The mechanics are a bit crazy and could have been perhaps explained a bit more. What made it double as tricky was the control scheme, which wasn't at all what I was used to, and also the breakout ball didn't always move in the way I'd expect it to (sometimes changing speed weirdly etc) to make the game super-unpredictable. With all the stuff that was going on at once I got overwhelmed pretty fast.

epicdude312 2018-04-24 03:55

This is a really nice game! I liked how the two games fit together - nice job with the theme! The graphics were also really good. The only gripes I have are the fact that the game seems to start immediately (it goes through the title screen in one frame), and that the ball sometimes gets stuck, giving me a huge score easily.

deadly-apps 2018-04-24 05:05

Had a blast playing this. Great job on the theme and physics. Made me laugh quite a bit.

sirikan 2018-04-24 05:43

Nice game. Really liked the art style you did with the blocks and the music was really good too.

smallboss 2018-04-24 05:49

This is a very nice looking game. well polished and a lot of fun. The ball movement is a bit too glitchy and buggy. it got stuck twice and couldn't move at all but it is works.

Really enjoyed this entry! Thanks for hanging out with us on the stream.

shinbaxter 2018-04-24 06:25

HAHA! cool! i luv it! really well pulled of in the time as well. the colors are awesome, really absorbing, sort of like christmas tree lights. & i like the almost halloween style remix of the classic tetris theme, it cud fit right in the 90s batman movies. great work

=)

extrone 2018-04-24 06:36

What a beautiful game man, The 2 most epic games mixed into one masterpiece. Really enjoyed it.

evan-minto 2018-04-24 07:25

Love the neon graphics and the music! I kept getting a glitch where the ball over-accelerated and became completely unpredictable, but in a way that made it even more entertaining. When I WAS able to control the ball I could start to be more strategic and use the ball to help with my Tetris play, but that didn't last very long. Overall this is a super cool idea though!

rocktavious 2018-04-24 14:10

I too got the ball over-accelerating glitch a number of times.

Overall really good game you made here. Its interesting how trapping the ball is sudo helpful until the bricks start coming fast then you're just playing with too small a tetris board. ;)

Would be nice if there was some mechanic that dropped the blocks down when there become random spaces taken out by the ball - like some sort of weight simulation almost.

kanacell 2018-04-24 15:20

I love this result, really great work. there's just the bug on the over speeding velocity on the ball which appear sometimes when the ball is stucked between 2 blocs.

afroant 2018-04-24 17:32

Amazing job on the theme! You know what doesn't make sense in Tetris? The ball from Breakout! Really liked the graphics, and the audio was very soothing. I enjoyed trying to get the ball to go crazy. Nice work!

gamepopper 2018-04-24 20:49

This is a brilliant and deceptive combination. This version of Tetris is challenging enough, but with a ball that removes individual pieces, it makes it harder to clear lines. Needing to time exactly when to drop pieces is essential if you don't want the ball stuck.

I also love the visual effects, I'm a huge fan of bloom but I also like the colourisation and wavy effect of the grid in places where blocks used to be.

Brilliant work!

saoi-games 2018-04-25 06:52

I’m not sure if your whole team was able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

Thanks for stopping by the stream @bamboy

I liked the concept, but wish there was a whole screen dedicated to explaining what the ball does. It mostly served as an annoyance and it was hard to identify when it would remove blocks vs add blocks.

Good Game

palsina 2018-04-25 11:46

I've played a lot of tetris in my life, so this was a bit of a mindf**k, with the ball destroying your plans. A good one though.

logic-monkey 2018-04-26 09:15

The ball is an element of chaos. When I realized I could interfere with the ball, I was happy. Then I learned that the ball's plans are served just as well when I try to manipulate it as not. The ball always wins.

Be the ball.

the-noffs 2018-04-27 00:05

@fluffy @bamboy @sdavidfortner @jamgrrl Cool idea! I'm not very good at tetris, but I really dig breakout: so I approached the game with a mindset of continuously trying to use my pieces to trap the ball in tight spaces so it would clear out lots of the screen. Really great visual and audio polish, good gamefeel, and very complete-feeling execution. Good work y'all!

bunnybreaker 2018-04-30 10:10

I'm a sucker for anything Breakout based and even though I don't like standard Tetris, I really liked this. Nice work

schu 2018-05-02 02:20

It was a really cool blend of two fun games. I loved when the ball was flying around and being unpredictable but after awhile it started just slowing sliding along which meant I was just playing tetris no matter how much I tried to get it to accelerate

csanyk 2018-05-12 17:23

I really liked this entry. The graphics are beautiful. Great colors, great grid distortion effects.

The gameplay took a bit of getting used to. After I paused the game and read the rules, I understood what was going on better, but it was very hard to feel like I was really in control of the game. The ball did what it wanted to, and mostly messed up my strategy, but it did so in ways that kept me a live for a long time. I cleared maybe one or two lines through tetris line completion the entire game, but the ball destroyed blocks for me a lot. For a while I tried to isolate the ball by turning its trail blue, and then dropping blocks around it to confine it to a corner, and this worked pretty well for a few seconds, but it always seemed to find a way out somehow.

The music was fantastic. I am very impressed by your game.

My own game, [InvadTris](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/invadtris/ld41-post-mortem-invadtris/) mashes up Tetris with Space Invaders, so please have a look at it and let me know what you think.
