NIce game

bluelioness 2017-04-24 15:33

wHAA this is really nice! pretty Hard I need to say! haha I really like the "layer"effect of the background!

2017-04-24 17:35

Nice platformer! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/kvZnj9d9GIA), if you’d like to take a look :)

sachos345 2017-04-24 18:58

@sagarpatel25700 thanks man

@bluelioness Wow thanks! Yeah one of the best things of Construct 2 is that it makes really easy to make parallax backgrounds, about the difficulty i could finish the game pretty easily but i understand as i played it a ton by the time i finished it haha.

@jupiter-hadley Thanks man! I will be checking your video ASAP, will leave a comment on Youtube haha

drazil100 2017-04-26 09:26

Thanks for sharing this game with me earlier. It was an interesting game! The gravity was a touch on the heavy side and there were a few too many enemies. Also not sure if being small fits the theme of a small world. That aside it was a pretty solid game!

sachos345 2017-04-26 23:27

@drazil100 Thanks for playing the game but i will be honest with you... i actually like the gravity that way, i dont like floaty jumping. About the enemies i think you played way too recklessly you did not even try to kill the enemies...About the theme i think if the only thing that fits the theme is an actual small world then every game would be the same. Its a "small world" because the action happens in tiny dimentions, if humans were alive in the world they would smash those ants and cockroaches with only one foot.

togis 2017-04-28 18:47

This is a very cool platformer with a good challenging gameplay and nice art style.

I had a lot of fun playing it and trying to optimise my bullet used per enemy :)

If I have one comment, it would just be that some platforms are decorative only and can confuse at time. It would have been nice to change the colour of decorative platforms or make them a bit transparent.

I had a really fun time playing this game! Thanks a lot.

(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/34z-nBWKdEw?t=1h59m58s )

sachos345 2017-04-28 21:59

@togis Yup was there with you on the stream, thanks for giving my game a chance man. And i completly agree with the decorative platforms things, did not even think about that. Will be sure to rate your game on Sunday =)

itzhak-w 2017-04-28 22:01

Nice, but way too hard on the enemies front! maybe I'm just a bad player tho :(

jamgrrl 2017-04-28 22:18

I'm not very much into platformers so I didn't get very far into the first level. Pretty impressive total showing for 48 hour Compo -- Fully developed world/story, all the art and sound done by one person. Cool!

sachos345 2017-04-28 22:26

@itzhak-w haha yeah it is my biggest regret, i can finish the game without dying but i think a lot of people are finding it too hard =S what level did you end up?

@jamgrrl Thanks for playing watched it on your stream =)

skywilly 2017-04-29 00:02

A very cool plateformer, with some levels & great surprises. A good moment to play :) Congrats !

sachos345 2017-04-29 02:02

@skywilly thanks for playing it! Loved watching your reactions on your stream haha.

wolar 2017-05-01 16:44

I found the music annoying but overall you did a great job if considering it was one man 48 hours compo. I found the game a little bit hard for me at some places (especially start of the 2nd level when I was not really used to the game, controls and so on and had troubles jumping up, shooting around and so on)

ryte2byte 2017-05-01 17:38

Looks like a good, solid, retro platformer. Didn't past 2nd level. I felt that the ammo management was a little too severe. Great sound and graphics.

steve-johnson 2017-05-01 17:42

I didn't get far because I got frustrated at running out of ammo.

jaytord 2017-05-01 17:48

Very nice art and gameplay. Last levels were too easy though, probably level 2 was hardest one. Also a bit disappointing that boss is just laying down and not doing anything; personally, I would rather prefer to play a game with just 3 levels and challenging boss. Anyway, game is very cool, it is made in Compo format, but it's quality as of Jam level game

neato 2017-05-01 18:23

Nice, but I think the enemies are way too tanky.

geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01 18:53

Flight of the bumblebee was an odd, and annoying choice of music :)

Didn't realise I had an ammo count until I ran out, could be made clearer. Otherwise a solid game.

sachos345 2017-05-01 19:29

@geeitsomelaldy I just used BeepBox for the music just did some random things there as have 0 knowldage of music haha

epiplon 2017-05-01 22:40

Did you just made a Deadpool ant? XD

nickw 2017-05-01 23:06

Nice job my friend. I would prefer is the enemies were a little less tanky and a little more interesting rather than just going back and forth on a path. The jumping mechanics were a little too quick for my taste, it was rather difficult to make vertical jumps up to ledges and jumping over bullets felt random. I liked the weapon design, there was quite a lot of variety, and some of the weapons felt like they took some mastery to user properly. There were a few moments when I was just mowing through the enemies that I felt like a true badass. I feel like the level design got a little easier by the end especially with the ramp up in weapon strength, and that boss fight didn't exactly hit the mark for me =) Overall a solid game. Thanks for letting me play it on stream!

codechomper 2017-05-02 11:24

Very Cool game! I like the "Bugs Life" feel. The moving platforms were impressive, I know they are difficult to do. I liked the heavy gravity and the controls felt really solid. Good Job!

spinaljack 2017-05-02 14:43

Nice hand drawn look, very effective. Reminiscent of SNES games and 90s Saturday morning cartoons

killtolive 2017-05-02 14:58

Nice! It wasn't obvious about "double jump" at first, but when I figured it out - all become more or less straight forward :) Nice game!

sachos345 2017-05-02 15:29

@killtolive yeah i know thats why i put the double jump and jump down thing on the controls instruction, i forgot to say that in the actual game! haha

piscythe 2017-05-02 16:36

Nice work! I like the weapon and power up selection. I felt like I should have been able to jump up through the moving platforms, but nope. Supply management was tricky because I didn't see a way to switch guns, each gun starts with a different amount of ammo, and ammo power ups give the same amount for every weapon. Also, I would have appreciated a couple seconds of warning before God Mode wore off. The difficulty seemed pretty manageable to me, but then the last two levels were cakewalks. I love the character designs, but now I kinda want to watch an action flick.

(Cleared in one attempt, 1 life remaining.)

jhandsy 2017-05-02 17:27

It was pretty good! The music got a little grating after a while. I liked the humor. I think you probably should have given the basic gun infinite ammo, though. Doesn't feel great to run out and be helpless.

wildmusketeer 2017-05-02 17:34

Very nice little Contra-like game. I like the amount of variety there was in this game: enemy types, weapon types, levels (There were some pretty difficulty platforming!) I also really enjoy the handrawn aesthetic. I think one nitpick is how many enemies/tanky their health pool was, which made the difficulty ramp up really quickly towards the end. Overall, really enjoyable retro shooter!

sachos345 2017-05-02 18:42

@piscythe You are right a warning for God Mode (and all powerups) would have been useful, the last levels were soo rushed, i was getting out of time so i rushed everything and put the power ups there so player could try every combination of them. Thanks for playing man glad you could finish the game in one try, a lot of people quit before that!

@jhandsy yup now i regret not making the basic gun infinite. Thanks for playing it seems a lot of people liked the art style will start to improve on that and refine my style for next games.

@wildmusketeer Yeah enemies ended up being too tanky that doesnt feel good in the end, also the platforms ended up being too tiny i refret so much about that specially Level 2, Level 2 sucks. Thanks for playing!

marccio-silva 2017-05-02 18:53

The controls were surprisingly good (in terms of feel), although knowing of the existence of the double jump beforehand would've been nice. The visuals were nice and cohesive in terms of style, I liked that.

joseph-matson 2017-05-02 18:56

This game is awesome, so well done. The graphics are basic but look really good! It's surprisingly difficult haha, especially with the limited ammo. It would be cool to have a risky short range attack for when you run out, so you don't just lose in certain spots. Great submission

silkworm-sweatshop 2017-05-02 19:38

Nice entry! I honestly wasn't expecting much when I saw the art but it definitely surprised me. There is a lot of content in there and it's fun to play. I like the weapon variety and they all feel satisfying to use. Even the art kinda grew on me even if it has problems with consistency. That player sprite is pretty dope though! :)

lazzor 2017-05-02 22:05

Nice game! The gameplay feels right, everything works as you would think. It's also really challenging. I like it!

pandakipu 2017-05-02 22:49

Really cool game. At first, I didn't the double jump ^^ Great work !

giusex27 2017-05-02 22:59

I found the game great in terms of the gameplay, very simple to play and that's a plus, but I didn't really like that much the level design, it kind of got repetitive, nothing to do with it being hard (although it could at least have been a bit easier in the beggining in order to understand better the mechanics and get used to the dynamic of the game), still for a game made by a single person in just 48 hours though it does end up as a very solid product. Congrats on the game!

gamesplusjames 2017-05-03 00:38

Great job, I really liked the character you played as. The music got very intense after a while but I enjoyed the platforming in the game. Nice work!

aumbra 2017-05-03 03:39

Fun, complete package. Controls felt really good which can be hard to achieve in such short time.

sachos345 2017-05-03 15:02

Super glad a lot of people are enjoying the controls, at the beginning i got some comments saying they didnt feel that good but i see there are more people that enjoy them than dont. Thanks for the great comments and feedback everyone.

@giusex27 yeah the level design sucks, i hate level 2 haha. Thanks for playing.

@aumbra you gotta give Construct 2 engine some credit in terms of controls, its really easy to tune the controls just right the way you like it. Thanks for playing glad you enjoyed it!

nofuel 2017-05-03 16:36

yeah I really like the various items and weapons that you are able to collect. It keeps the game interesting. After a couple tries I realized that i should save my ammo..especially in the second level. I lost a lot of lives there :D Sadly I only got to the fourth level and did not find the way to the goal. Did I miss something? One background music is a little bit annoying but the other one fits pretty good! All in all it is a great solid game! :)

marcio-gastaldello 2017-05-03 18:09

Interestingly, the team's first choice to develop the theme was to make a tangle, but we changed our minds! The damage of the player is very fast, as I am slow in the game I could not advance much, but I spent a few minutes with fun! Congrats on the job!

sachos345 2017-05-03 21:09

@nofuel Oh my, thanks for playing though your game was way better than mine! haha Level 4 you just gotta go to the right.

@marcio-gastaldello i think you commented in the wrong game?

those-30-ninjas 2017-05-04 21:15

The movement all felt good. But ammo as resource seemed unnecessary and un-fun. I wish the shotgun powerup shot in a horizontal like out from the player since that's mainly where I wanted my projectiles to come from. Nice platformer and solid game.

the-shadow 2017-05-04 23:47

good job, the flying platforms reminds me of tiny toons for the sega genesis, two notes to make the game better:

1- choose a simple art style if you can't do beautiful art

- put the enemies on skates if you don't want to animate their leg movement, or use a rayman style legs to create easier walk cycle

2- although the tutorial is pretty simple, but i prefer if you put the controls on sign posts at the start of the level -- put an early high tile to ensure players can double jump

keep up the good work ;)

daisy 2017-05-05 13:03

This game kicked my ass! Thank you for putting up a vid so I could see what else was in the game. Gutted I couldn't make it to the God mode pickup! Super surprised to see a Boss at the end too, that's pretty cool.

I love Antnator, he's so very Arnie-esque. xD What a stride he has.

I think my main problem is with the small platforms that you can't jump through. I'm generally really conservative with ammo so I didn't find that a problem, but the little platforms on level 2 put a proper crimp in my day. I would suggest having a few more of them and having them a bit closer together perhaps. Or at least build it up in such a way that the player gets used to the extent of their jump before having enemies in the way.

Nice job on tackling all aspects of the game though. If you do another jam it might be worth bringing the scale back so it's one or two well-tested levels. That said you did get a lot out of the assets and gameplay you made! Good job. :D

vladik-plays 2017-05-05 18:42

This game is AWESOME!!! Nice hand drawn graphics awesome animations, great platformer and great take on the theme ;) Here is my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/fixville

chaseplays 2017-05-06 22:13

This game is surprisingly great! The physics feel perfect, and they're nicely blended with the sfx, with good music too! I like the challenge and honestly had a lot of fun with this. I got halfway through lv. 3, but was a bit too reckless with my ammo to actually beat it... *maybe* I should have conserved it a bit better. My only complaint is that the blending of high-resolution and low-resolution graphics looks strange, although i can't really blame you for having programmer graphics sometimes. I absolutely loved this, and thanks!

morbidcamel101 2017-05-06 22:31

It's deceptively brilliant!

sachos345 2017-05-07 11:03

@daisy @vladik-plays @chaseplays @morbidcamel101 thanks a lot guys your comments are super encouraging! I love that you guys like the gameplay and kinda like the graphics too haha.

nedmakesgames 2017-05-09 22:24

Good game! You saw on stream I had some trouble with the input, trying to move precisely, but it's hard with keyboard to do that in general. Impressed by your art and the size of the game! Good job!

howardcs 2017-05-10 16:25

Great platformer, especially considering it's a compo. Controls feel good. Love the backgrounds and the graphics in general. Well made.

euske 2017-05-13 13:35

I really liked the music. There are multiple songs, and some of them are pretty catchy!

ricardo-morastico 2017-05-16 02:19

cool game :)

kepons 2017-05-16 16:36

This was really fun! The controls were tight and there were various enemies and weapons. The only real issue was that the levels were pretty long and starting over when you've got so far was tedious.

maxgun 2017-05-17 20:58

Fun game and very solid entry! I really liked the physics feeling, whre it's very responsive. At first maybe a bit too fast but you get used to it quickly. Would love to have the ability to jump with another key than up (space ?). Level design was not too bad, except on level 2 where it was just errr... annoyingly hard ? ><

But yeah, really good job the work put into this compo entry, and congrats for having a game done!
