LD26 — Minimalism

One Chance by spacechase0 2013-05-02T19:58:00

The gameplay was simple and fluid. The cave level had lots of empty space, I would have enjoyed more direct guidance.
The green magic cucumber was a bit strange, was it a weapon.
It was fun to find the kitten.
I did not get to the end.

The repeating music did not get annoying and the idea and the interaction fit well together.
But why did the bunnies have to die :(

Haunted Dojo by ramoncb 2013-05-02T19:31:00

The black and white style was cool, but it felt like the game would never end.
The combat was awkward. I would have liked a more clear indication whether I hit the enemy or not, for example a sound effect or a visual feedback.

The idea was clear and fun to find out. Did not figure out the third block before looking for help.
What I find essential to puzzle games is that when you figure out the solution, you can do it quickly. In this game it is very easy to figure out the optimal solution for the first level, but it takes way too long to do. I got bored half-way.
The first level could be way smaller and the ship faster.
The snowflake graphics was stylish and the music was fitting, though quite sad.

It was quite random. Pulling back the camera more would allow player to plan ahead. There could also be checkpoints or goals or something else to go for.
The arrows that let you choose were quite useless, as I could not plan anyway.
The dog looks funny.

Skware by tankete 2013-05-02T18:43:00

Simple idea and worked well, at least when I realised that I can dodge the black squares.

First I thought I have to collect same color.

The annoying thing was to catch a block and instantly lose one to the hole I just created. Maybe the empty squares should not appear instantly.

Thanks for comments, I appreaciate them all.
The depth cue is a sore problem. I think that 3D models for the collectibles, lighting and some distance cues or such would have helped a lot. Had no time to implement because of the problems I had with the sound.

I wanted to create the controls in such a way that the player needs to actively control the ship all the time and use timing instead of going straight to the right position (this does not help much now, that the right position is so hard to see :P)
The .NET framework requirement would annoy myself too. I don't know yet if I can go around it, bundle the required files with the game or target an earlier version that people might already have.
And thanks for the comments on music. I just made it so fast but seems I hit the spot well enough.
I am looking forward to next Ludum Dare and I hope I have gotten rid of the technical problems by then.
