LD22 — Alone

Luto Hominus by Ashkin 2011-12-21T01:25:00

My group totally gets what you mean about procedural generation. A good chunk of our development time was spent on simply generating the caves we needed and it was really satisfying opening the window each time to see a new splotch of content.

Your game has a great visual style, I wouldn't be surprised if you learned a lot writing it with the generated maps and all that. I'm looking forward to what you make in the future!

Never Alone Hotline by Pierrec 2011-12-21T16:30:00

Fun stuff! The ending confused me a little, but otherwise it was fun to play. I didn't see the kitten in the end!

The ghost who wants to be alone by Fenyx 2011-12-22T00:20:00

Good work! From my familiarity with Game Maker, this title was interesting to look at with the 3D visuals. The game was a tad frustrating with how quickly I was rushed though. Otherwise an impressive entry! I look forward to seeing what you submit next!

OUTPOST_NULL by VonZippenstein 2011-12-21T00:54:00

The game brought tension out well. At one time I thought the text in the corner was something moving while turning. The sterile atmosphere was really enjoyable.

If I was to give any constructive criticism, I would suggest giving a little more feedback when the player works with a computer. I wasn't sure if my interactions when pressing the E key did anything. Otherwise a well-constructed piece!

Buttercup's Castle by bostelk 2011-12-21T01:06:00

Gameplay was fun, and was a good example of being arcade-y without being all violent. I appreciate that you didn't bother trying to fudge the theme at the last minute too.

The Lonesome Pixel by Kaslai 2012-01-06T07:33:00

Cool, and a little hard! Reminds me of good ol' ZZT!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Double Kick Heroes by blackmagic 2015-12-16T16:24:00

Ohhh man. This is probably one of the best uses of a recorded guitar for a LD game I've seen in a long time. Super cool!

First time I've given five stars for fun in a long time!

Agent Hooker by Phoenix849 2015-12-16T16:09:00

This is incredibly polished! I like the character of the overall game as well.

The general audience of your game has a two-button mouse, but if you added Z/X keyboard support instead of the mouse buttons, that would be amazing for future versions. It's a bit hard to play on my OS X touchpad.

Other than that, I loved it!

Oh My Beard! by StaNov 2015-12-14T16:48:00

This is hillarious. Well done! The voice acting and kazoo soundtrack really makes it.

Frank & Stein by Thomas Olsson 2015-12-14T01:54:00

Looks great! Awesome stuff!

Realm by Vadinci 2015-12-14T03:14:00

I wasn't 100% sure what do to during the gameplay, and my units were kind of cut off from the top of the screen, but it was a lot of fun to place things. I got a bit stuck though, as I was unsure how to get more population, or specific resources, or if I even could!

Still, the theme and graphics are a great fit. Good idea!

Eager by Bobrocket 2015-12-14T03:31:00

Agar is great for casual LAN parties, so I'm happy to see an inspiration for it pop up.

I liked the simplicity of it, but I had a bit of trouble turning around at the right time to fire a shot at an enemy. Eating and shooting made more to do, which I think helped the gameplay.

Thanks for uploading it!

growman by berkano 2015-12-14T03:42:00

You're using GitHub for source hosting so you get a star. :P

I liked how personal the messages were. The wanted the snowman to succeed after hearing his happy remarks.

I wasn't 100% whether or not I was in tree-planting mode or not while playing, apart from stopping to read the textbox. Some sort of animation or icon to indicate that would be be awesome.

Overall, thanks for uploading! I had fun.

Vines by Stfan 2015-12-14T03:47:00

This is cute! The use of the theme with the vines is really well-done. Good work!

Ump Carter: Japanese Toy Collector by Ted Brown 2015-12-16T14:32:00

OS X download only? Man, have I never felt so necessary in this jam! :P

I like the idea of balancing so many aspects. It's like two-button controls for a two aspect-life. I didn't get all the way through it, but I'd be excited to see more of it develop! Keep working on it!

Clara Stirzaker and the Crypt of Time by vidarn 2015-12-14T13:37:00

I love the art. Reminds me of Derek Yu, especially with the explorer theme.

A mobile game called Lost Yeti had similar mechanics to this. I liked this one a lot more. Consider packing this up and putting it on an app store!

Lands of TSR Lore by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2015-12-16T15:31:00

Ohmygosh! This is super cute! Elements of the gameplay, as you mentioned, need a little more work, but this is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to play while on the bus.

I like how expressive and well-shaded the characters faces are with such few pixels. It's something I would have liked to show with my compo entry if I had quicker time and more skill.

Thanks for uploading! This was a treat to play!

Frogtale by rzuf 2015-12-14T04:05:00

Oh man, once I beat that ant, I was so happy. The final boss music was perfect. I loved the humor of this game. Did you record the soundtrack yourself?

The pacing of the gameplay was smart, and I felt satisfied once I leveled up and progressed. The only thing I found frustrating though was running low on health before the final boss and having to backtrack to heal. Once I found out you get revived if you die, I played differently, lol.

Coffee, Please! by sweetfish 2015-12-14T04:23:00

Love the physics! The idea is well-polished and put together. I had a lot of fun. :)

The only thing I would suggest would be different fonts for handwriting. Some near-unreadable to make the player guess harder. ;P

Stitch Wars by wilbefast 2015-12-14T04:30:00

Fun demo! I starred it on GitHub.

I really liked the twist on the button theme. If you had a theme category, I'd have given it a good review.

On the accumulation of pressure on buttons by richy486 2015-12-14T06:50:00

I N/A'ed on a lot of these, but I love the idea. A video would be sweet!

Plant Lab by Moebius 2015-12-14T04:41:00

Very cool. I liked the clean, small retro aesthetic of it. Or, it added a cute character compared to a lot of fullscreen-esuqe Unity games. Not that those are bad!

Editing the genome was really interesting, but it felt a bit opaque. I wasn't 100% sure what my effects would do, or how combining them together changes it.

Did you use an L-System for the plant logic?

WONKS by moltanem2000 2015-12-16T16:56:00

The style is super great. From one UVic connect-ee to another, keep up the good work!

#wonkslife

THOSE GOD DAMN SHEEP!!! by jellycubestudio 2015-12-14T13:11:00

I liked the animations and shaking, plus it runs in web! Awesome!

I don't think I ever succeeded at planting a flower, to be honest. The white sheep almost always gobbled them up, and the black sheep kept me busy!

Shooting felt great though. It had awesome feedback and made me have that badass gun feeling the right shooters give you.

Beardgrow by esayitch 2015-12-14T14:40:00

I think you've generated the best Autotracker song in existence.

Invasion by AxeTheory 2015-12-14T06:57:00

This one is really cool. I got a lot out of being strategic. Or, there would be times where I'd let one branch go to block off another branch, or I'd let one almost kill me just to shoot its weak spot and force it to restart.

I'd love to see a multiplayer version of this, where three other players are the invading alien pipes and have to battle each other while avoiding the human.

Chaintanks by ProjectX593 2015-12-14T15:44:00

This game shows so much variety with a few discrete sprites! Well done!

o / O by NMcCoy 2015-12-16T17:22:00

I had a lot of fun with this! You really nailed the themes here.

Playing around with the physics of it was interesting too. Or, I feel like I learned a lot using the move/grow functionality as a gas/break mechanic. A lot of layers to it!

Also, the abstract geometry and lighting reminded me a little of Super Mario 64's Bowser levels, so that's a win. ;P

Unknown by Eshford 2015-12-14T17:13:00

Super polished! I liked the smooth pixel art and color choices. The UI has nice details, but it doesn't get in your face. Very zen!

I'm pretty bad at rhythm games, so I crashed and burned a lot, but it was super well-done.

Swarm Hunter by HuvaaKoodia 2015-12-14T03:26:00

The controls took me a few tries, and I original did windowed mode on Mac OS X, which was a bad idea when clicking, haha.

The idea was a cool twist on the "defend the X/Y" genre, and I loved the idea playing as a bug. I would consider simplifying or stabilizing the controls though. I felt like I was battling the flying mechanics more than the bugs sometimes.

The graphics reminded me of Panzer Dragon, which made me automatically give you a four-star rating. If you were to polish it up more after LD34, I would love to see it as a low-resolution Sega Saturn/PS1 game.

Cool idea! I had fun!

Wrecking Bull by srimech 2015-12-14T16:40:00

The "bull in a china shop" is probably the best spin on Breakout I've seen next to Wizorb. The collision detection is cool too!

How did you decide to break the shape into polygons? Is it a Voronoi Diagram? I like the initial hit when you smash it to pieces.

Arc by ChuiGum 2015-12-27T06:12:00

Oh man, this game is hard, but the good kind of hard! To be honest, I felt like I was too slow to make anything hit right. Still, a really good idea. I liked the game a lot. The bright colours, plus the style of the graphics really matches well with Helvetica.

Compo games typically provide source code with their submissions, so I've left the Overall score as N/A for now. If you add the source link, please let me know and I'll rate it!

Flame Keepers by John Drury 2015-12-16T16:17:00

I really liked the sound effects and animations. Or, in some ways it's simple, but in other ways it gives really good player feedback. It was addictive dishing out attacks to things. Well done!

Metaforski! by _stice 2015-12-14T14:54:00

You get a GitHub star for using GitHub. ;P

Also, this is game looked like pure JavaScript! No Phaser or ImpactJS! Well done!

Reminded me of Radical on iOS/Android for a bit. I really liked the randomly-generated keywords.

Spirit Hearts by Yword 2015-12-16T15:48:00

The Box2D physics along with the shump-like mechanics were a lot of fun. I liked using a dragged box as a shield in certain cases. Particle effects were great too! You've got a good eye for shading, so I'd earnestly recommend making the graphics have more smooth, non-pixelly art if you were to continue with this. Very good!

I found holding a box to block the "laser wall beam" from killing me a bit difficult, since the screen scrolled and thus moved my mouse's target. Maybe if those walls only took off 1HP, it would be a little more forgiving.

Otherwise, it was lots of fun! Cheers!

Bicycle Simulator 1984 by Eigen 2015-12-27T06:37:00

Source code?

I used to love playing ZZT when I was younger, so being able to enjoy something like this is a real treat! I like the button-mashing aspect of it too.

Your engine is neat as well. I gave it a star on GitHub. ;)

Longbeard by Joe Williamson 2015-12-15T04:26:00

Really nice stuff, especially with the beard puzzles! I would have loved to see how this developers with the gameplay.

I'd encourage you to develop this into a more full IP later if you get the chance. The idea is really novel.

QUACK! QUACK! Save the duck! by zebi24 2015-12-16T15:57:00

Oh man, I really didn't want that bird to die. Adorable none the less. Good work!

Sea Cucumber Runner 2D by takemikazuchi545 2015-12-14T07:11:00

You get top humour for making a Sea Cucumber game! ( http://bit.ly/1QnLzSu )

I liked the growing mechanic a lot.

Shroom's by tuben999 2015-12-14T14:51:00

This game is adorably cute. I love the shading of the sprites and the tiles.

Sometimes the sine wave of the bullets shot over enemies heads, and jumping/shooting was a bit hard to line up against enemies on higher platforms. Otherwise, I had a lot of fun doing the levels and dodging enemies. The precision bits reminded me of Super Meat Boy.

Auto Racer by ethankennerly 2015-12-16T15:37:00

I love the voxel-ish Crossy Road look, so I'm happy to see a Compo entry with this style. :)

I found the cars moving very realistically to be interesting, but it made things a bit hard for me to plan ahead. That might not be a bad thing though. Good work!

Give and Take by Move127 2015-12-14T15:24:00

A lot of fun just to mess around. Really good usage of the themes for direction.

I felt a little bad making the people become believers by hurting them, funny enough. The game is a bit of a statement in itself, lol.

Knight vs. Mage by Thembi 2015-12-14T15:32:00

The strong beat of the background music kept me engaged well. I liked that a lot! Also, the timing of hitting and passively letting the items past was really cool. I feel as though you could make different playstyles for each character.

Very cool!

DNA Polymerase by Bering 2016-01-04T05:01:00

Haha, that was super cool! I've seen a few "use the DNA to grow the thing" type of games on this compo, but a puzzle-matching game is super neat.

I found the gameplay a bit complicated, but once I figured it out I had fun. Thanks for uploading!

Static by trykondev 2015-12-14T05:05:00

The world reminded me of Super Metroid's map, haha.

I liked your usage of the theme. It helped give a level of scale and challenge as the player progressed.

Greenvenge by Nizar89 2015-12-16T12:31:00

Really nice! The whole mood and theme is cohesive, especially with the the mascot character explaining the game.

I'm using Mac OS X, so I'm really thankful you had a WebGL port! It was a bit big for my non-retina display though. I had to scroll around to see the entire viewport. If there was a Mac port, I would definitely play with that.

Lane King by LukeZaz 2015-12-15T08:33:00

WebGL is always a plus! Makes it easier on less common OS'es like Mac and Linux. Thanks for that. I had trouble getting the game to fit in my screen resolution, so I often scrolled left/right a bit.

The core mechanics of the game are solid, but perhaps need a little visual polish. I wasn't sure of the levels of each of my blue minions, and if I knew how strong they were, I'd probably choose spawning more strategically.

If you've ever played Starcraft, you might have noticed that the gross Zerg aliens are weak and plentiful, while the mystic Protoss are fewer but stronger. The nuances of the two races change how you play the game against other people. I think maybe adding certain unit types, or changing the speed/numbers of the game would give you some really cool experiences.

Overall, it was neat! Keep up the good work, because there's a gem under there!

Empire Now by mathias234 2015-12-14T14:29:00

Mac users: if you're getting a "Can't run game" error from OS X, I was able to fix it by changing user permissions of the program inside Mac.app.

To do this, open the terminal and navigate to the folder where you extracted your app. Then type:

chmod a+x ./Mac.app/Contents/MacOS/Mac

This fixed it for me.

Empire Now by mathias234 2015-12-14T14:30:00

I liked the economy of the game. It would take a lot of work, but I'd love to see this with pathfinding too.

Good work! Thanks for submitting!

The Super Bros (that are not Brothers!) by Xinelu 2015-12-16T14:27:00

Cool idea! I liked how some of the initial platforming bits were easy to recover from.

It's really difficult to keep them together though. I wouldn't mind if I could stack the brothers, although I would probably be subverting the point of your game!

I'd keep playing around with this idea. You've got a cool one, and I think it'd be need to see a more developed version of it. Thanks for uploading!

Dying Light by tesnos 2015-12-16T15:06:00

I had PyGame installed, and I was able to run your source code. The game has some bugs, but I think they can be fixed quickly! I'll explain in the next comment to help.

I liked the concept, the concise design of the game is good for jams like Ludum Dare. I think the scope of your ideas for this game was a good size. The look of the overworld map and the battles, along with the patterns reminded me of Earthbound, which is always a good thing. :P

I think the quicktime events were cool, but maybe needed a bit of explanation ingame. I got a bit frustrated when the quick ones came and gone. To be honest, in order to get to the final boss, I just pressed the spacebar very quickly over and over during the battles. Apart from the timing issue, the design made sense.

Overall, cool ideas, especially if this was your first submission to Ludum Dare! I hope to see you in the jam or compo next time! :)

Dying Light by tesnos 2015-12-16T15:13:00

Okay, let me see if I can help with a few small things:

1) The "playerdead.png" and "boss.png" assets are missing from the zip file. I ended up substituting them with test pictures to finish the game. Maybe update your upload with those?

2) My default installation of PyGame on didn't support Mp3 decoding with the "mixer" class. This might be because PyGame relies on SDL, and SDL doesn't support MP3 without an extra module. Maybe use .WAV just to be safe?

3) Maybe you might want to package your game up as an executable for Windows users to play. That way they won't need to install PyGame to run it that way. PyGame has a tool called "pyg.exe", but I don't know much about it. There's a few other tools you can Google up that can make installers for your game. Maybe look those up?

Hope those help! If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me at "dansvg@gmail.com".

Growth by supajackle 2015-12-14T02:54:00

I like the twist at the end! Also, how the themes of the icons change as you grow "older".

Always A Bigger Fish by rantt 2015-12-14T04:45:00

I feel like the "fish eat fish now get bigger" games I played on Flash portals as a kid were slow and boring. This is much faster, quicker, and more interesting!

You get a GitHub star too. ;P

Super Keegan by davidcmcdonald 2015-12-27T06:21:00

Woo! Super Keegan! If Super Keegan has any merch (T-shirts, mugs, etc) for sale, lemme know.

The game design is simple and sharp, and I like that. Or, the player is able to figure things out pretty quickly, even without the tutorial text. There wasn't much time for me to react to falling logs, which was a little frustrating, but once I learned a bit and learned a bit of a strategy, it didn't seem so bad.

Cool stuff! Thanks for uploading!

Lifenodes. by Remicy 2015-12-14T16:08:00

I didn't finish all the endings, but it was a lot of fun adding and removing variables to change his outcome.

His potential sweetheart is a pixel cutie too!

The Artifact by nunesbarbosa 2015-12-15T10:14:00

Fun stuff! I liked how the powers changed as I progressed. It was cool seeing game art that had been scanned from graph paper like that, too. I would have been tempted to add more shading if I was in your shoes, but using colour to show relevant things like powerups and effects was smart.

Audio was good too!

Seedball by onilink_ 2015-12-28T08:32:00

Really good stuff! Kudos for writing an Emscripten port as well. OS/X users like me really appreciate it!

I didn't understand how to use the white-flowered plants, but figuring out how to change directions to cover the most ground was neat. Understanding how exactly I was going to jump or change floors was a bit of a challenge at first, but I found that playing with it usually gave me the results I wanted.

Thanks for the upload! Super cool!

Potatiana Jones by Ildfuglen 2015-12-14T13:44:00

I clicked 100% because of the name.

The music is really pumping. I enjoyed that! Plus the easter eggs.

From the Deep by scorched 2015-12-28T04:20:00

This is probably my favourite game of the compo so far! Well done!

The pacing and progression was really well-crafted. I like how the island rose and enabled me to learn the double-tapping technique. The caverns became more and more complicated as I went, which was a lot of fun. The double-tapping was a bit hard to pick up though; my game was like that as well, haha. I'm sure some tuning to make it more fluid would help greatly.

I'd love to hear how you composed the music and generated the sounds. They were really interesting.

Cupcake Snake by samreid 2016-01-01T08:01:00

Nice! I liked the fact that the game runs on mobile! Or, even though Ludum Dare is typically a PC fare, it's cool to have that accessibility.

The applause was good feedback for finishing the level, but it felt a bit loud compared to some of the other sound effects. If you were to continue, I'd consider tuning the volume of the game's sounds. It can be a bit of a tough nut to crack though!

You also get a GitHub star. ;P

Dungeon Wheel by BeardyBard 2015-12-15T15:16:00

Really clever! I liked keeping on a roll that was not ideal for the enemy.

Regardless, I didn't prepare well for the Rat-King. The roguelike elements were sweet.

The Lawpasser by KBF123 2015-12-14T04:07:00

I like the title and the image, but would you be okay with uploading the source as a .ZIP file? I have processing installed already. It would just make downloading easier.

The Lawpasser by KBF123 2015-12-14T04:07:00

Nevermind! You can download as .ZIP!

The Lawpasser by KBF123 2015-12-14T04:11:00

Haha, the dog in jail was adorable.

Sickle & Sword by MSiddeek 2015-12-15T15:37:00

Awesome! The story bits were capturing, and the gameplay kept me keen.

I was heartbroken when the newborn farmer was slain by snakes, haha.

Power Disney Princess Simulator 5000 by socapex 2015-12-14T04:53:00

I loved the blood! It spewed everywhere.

I'm curious if people are team cat or team bat now.

The Cube of Zanigriv by anarbitrarymustache 2015-12-14T16:36:00

The style was great! For such little time spent with MilkyTracker, you make me want to do the next one with a musician like yourself.

The portrait orientation of the game would make great for mobile devices. If you want to continue further with this game, consider polishing it up as a freeware portfolio piece!

Neo Oxygene by Jwatt 2015-12-28T04:03:00

I got confused, enlightened, confused, then satisfied, then confused again. I love the aesthetic and colours none the less! I felt like I wasn't 100% how to gain resources, so I got a bit stuck playing with my plant, haha.

How did you decide the tones for your four-colour palette? They do a good job of being distinct and enable the player to tell different things apart. I feel like when I look at colourized Super Game Boy games, the developers attempt to do smart things like that, but can often fail. This is a great example!

If you were to expand on this concept, I'd love to see it implemented on Nintendo DS homebrew. Or the two-screen mechanics are a cool idea for these sorts of controls.

Binary Tree by pparke 2015-12-14T04:57:00

Really cool idea! I had fun paying with it. Also, yay Phaser!

I'd love to see a fork later with more general controls. Systems like these are buckets of fun to play with.

I'm also reminded of strugges to get balancing right with AVL trees, haha.

Growurm by SeaDads 2015-12-16T14:23:00

Really good presentation! I liked how you made the title screen content an obstacle that the player busts through. It gave a got of character to the experience and it's something I wish there was more of in my submission's title.

I can see you guys opted out of audio, but I'm curious why you didn't add any Autotracker/SFXR magic to it? I find it often helps flush out the content a bit.

Regardless, good stuff! Really pleasing.

Nunsaram by jangdan 2015-12-16T07:58:00

I really liked how the piano notes gave a sudden jolt. More games need precise audio like that. It helped set the mood of the game way more, too.

SpaceGrown -- Grow your own space station! (TM) by bushmango 2015-12-14T05:13:00

Oh God, Clippy showed up!

Lots of fun! I liked all the little niches of humour hidden in every item or dialogue. Good game!

Growing Diseases by FlatPivot 2015-12-15T08:25:00

I really liked the cigarette brands you made up! The progragonist was super cute too. Overall, the idea of the game is exciting, and the action was well-played out.

I didn't exactly notice the green infection at first, and thought I had to shoot at the enemies firing at me, so I did badly the first time. Once I started battling infection I did okay, but juggling it with the dodging/plaforming was a bit overwhelming!

I had fun overall though. Thanks for uploading! :)

Puzzlerun by velddev 2015-12-14T13:26:00

Loved the consistent aesthetics. The pixel art and colours are well-formed, and the sound effects are perfect.

The players learns and picks up the game pretty quickly too, which is awesome.

Grow Your Defense by gebirgsbaerbel 2015-12-16T15:21:00

The children-having to change traits is brilliant. If I could have moved my towers around for a fee afterwards, that would be perfect.

It's like the magic of Chao breeding in Sonic Adventure taken to a new level.

Boxage 263 by swellbastion 2015-12-14T05:26:00

The pitterpatter when you run is lovely. I love the humour in it!

Grow Big and Go Home by MikeTsunami 2015-12-14T07:02:00

Super cute! I loved that you used the PICO-8 to make art. It makes the game so much better for me.

When the crow double-backed on me, I got a bit frustrated since I didn't see it coming, but overall I liked how the DNA changed me as I went.

PEACHY by studiopareidolia 2015-12-16T15:22:00

Looks cool! I'd play/rate if you did an OS X build!

PlantBoy by siObyte 2015-12-14T05:21:00

I ran with OpenEmu on Mac OS X. If I had a DMG flashcart, I'd be on this in a second and changing the pallettes on my GBC.

How did you find assembly programming on the Game Boy? I've looked into C assemblers for it but I've never been so brave.

Play with Dog or Cat by okusho 2015-12-14T17:54:00

Cute graphics! I like the colours of the animals contrasted with the background.

Also the one of the cat being poked with your finger is a great animation. Good work!

Circulus by Membrane 2015-12-15T15:26:00

I love that you have things running mobile-friendly. Ludum Dare is really more of a desktop jam, but the fact that you're making something that just runs on a cell phone's browser is super great.

Wobblez by jackycute 2016-01-01T08:07:00

The rhythm worked out really well, combining the gameplay and music. I liked that a lot!

YesNo Zen by Borodar 2015-12-14T05:29:00

I felt really proud of my math skills until I lost, haha. The music was nice too. Did it take long to compose?

You get a star for using GitHub. ;P

Rolling Snow by ProgramYourFace 2015-12-14T06:49:00

Good game! I feel like with a bit of work, this could be packaged into a little iOS/Android app for being on the bus.

The controls felt a bit slow, but that's probably part of the challenge of it. If I was to change anything, I'd probably make the hitboxes of the obstacles smaller and more distinct.

Overall, I enjoyed the simplicity of it. Good use of theme!

NO HOBO by Teren 2015-12-14T15:02:00

Haha, I lost and made half of his face a hobo. Fun to play!

I'd love to see a string of little jam games where you're the starring hipster's pizza guy, barista, tattoo artist, etc.

Taylor Vance by tmax8908@yahoo.com 2015-12-23T14:02:00

Oh, yeah, I have an OS X machine!

Cool idea. I like how the controls were minimized to only a click. This sort of thing could be made into the kind of mobile games that Ketchapp does well. If you polished the gameplay up, it would make a great app.

During gamelplay, I found moving around a bit difficult. Or, sometimes I felt as though the circle didn't go in the direction I always thought it was going to. Being able to change the velocity is smart, although maybe a bit difficult to get going fast. To be honest, I spent a lot of time trying to line up my shots in the same direction, so I wouldn't have minded if the circle moved at a fixed speed.

Overall, cool idea with such a minimal control scheme! Thanks for uploading!

Two buttons to save the city ! by LavWa 2015-12-16T16:50:00

Haha, I had a terrible tradeoff time with memorizing and pretending to remember the code I messed up.

By erasing the message, it really did force me to go more slowly. Super cool in that regard!

Cheese Mountain by Rumpelcita 2015-12-14T17:19:00

I got it in 37 mice!

It was a bit tough stacking the mice together, since they didn't stick very well and their bodies slid around. I've had the same troubles with Phaser's arcade physics, so I get where you're coming from there.

Regardless, thanks for uploading! It was sweet!

Thorn - The Dreamer by greenscreen 2015-12-14T14:10:00

The music was really good, and I liked the way you could keep going at an angle, rather than moving left and right statically.

I gave the graphics a 5 because, for some reason, this was the first time 3D graphics really made me feel like WebGL was making cool new things. I know that sounds a little silly, but the bright colours and pacing just felt right. I'd love to see this more polished at a later date.

Save The Planet - Plant Trees by ryofougere 2015-12-14T13:03:00

Glad to see you got it working! :)

Rape, Pillage, Makane! by CMG 2015-12-14T14:18:00

This arguably saved me the time of having to play through a Bioware RPG.

Just Me and Only Me Against The World by adamgryu 2015-12-16T17:41:00

Really spot-on! I'd love to read about how you did some of the camera logic.

The writing is Earthbound-tier.

Novascape by refreshgames 2015-12-16T16:04:00

So cool to see that you're running a submission on real GB hardware!

Would you give any advice to aspiring Game Boy programmers?

Famous Bus Movie Game by BuffaloPhil 2015-12-14T15:07:00

If you make a "II Keys" steering wheel sticker, I will buy one!

It reminds me a lot of Drift Stage, which is a good thing! Probably one of the most stylized games I've seen in this jam. Really good use of colour. I had a lot of fun playing it, and really enjoyed when my bus exploded.

If only Keanu Reeves could save me from my bad driving!

LD35 — Shapeshift

Shape Collector by Jogy34 2016-04-22T05:04:00

Fun game! I like how you used web technologies not typically seen in game development.

2ShiftDrift by 01010111 2016-04-19T05:00:00

Reading your postmortem, the forcing oneself to "jam for the sake of jamming" really resonated with me for LD35. I felt like I pushed myself into doing something I wasn't 100% prepared to this past weekend, and the lack of polish really shows in my submission. It's nice to hear that from another developer.

But the game though! The spritework is really slick, and I like how the player changes shape when they boost. The little LD35 painted onto the track is a cute touch as well. I felt I never really got that great at steering, especially while boosted, but maybe that was something I was missing. Otherwise, thanks for uploading!

Snakoban - 倉庫蛇 by Fonserbc 2016-04-27T05:42:00

This is an awesome idea! I love the two game ideas combined, plus the simple humour that comes out of it.

The up/down arrow keys seem to make me scroll on itch.io. If there's anyway to disable that on Chrome that you know of, that would be great.

Otherwise, great upload! Thanks for submitting this!

Facade by euske 2016-04-20T05:43:00

The gameplay progression was really sharp. Well-done! I appreciated that the polygons could look past their differences and save the day.

I'm happy you have the source on GitHub too. I'll be sure to check out the pathfinding code!

Facade by euske 2016-04-20T05:50:00

よくやった!

ShapeDriller Company by psychomonster 2016-04-19T04:11:00

Neat idea! I liked how you were finding the right tool for the right objective. I feel like you could expand on this with Dig-Dug mechanics and it would play great. CRAb is a funny company name.

Part of me wanted to go faster to speed up the game, but when I went too fast I died quite quickly. I was a bit conflicted there. But overall, super cool!

ORIKAMI by Mnemusyne 2016-04-21T05:46:00

This is very good. I liked the symbolism flipping left and right.

I'd love to see a postmortem written up about this later.

Unknown by Eshford 2016-04-18T05:13:00

Glad to see that you did the Compo once more! :)

The shielding/dodging reminds me of Dark Souls a lot, and that makes me happy. The cage-y mechanics are always neat to explore, and I feel like I learned each time I played the game. The element of progression was nice in that regard.

I got a bit frustrated initially that I couldn't aim in any direction, but after a while I realized that wasn't quite what the game was going for and I enjoyed things more after that.

Otherwise, lots of fun. I enjoyed it!

Unknown by Eshford 2016-04-18T05:14:00

Oh, also, on my Xbox 360 gamepad, I couldn't press A or Start to get past the game over screen. I had to use they keyboard's enter key instead. Maybe that was just me though!

Mike Rand in Fantasy Land by BrainSlugs83 2016-05-06T07:15:00

I love that you have gamepad support! I find playing the games are much more enjoyable that way.

I liked exploring the world, especially with how you could go indoors and outdoors. The jumping physics was a bit hard to master, but it was fun when I got a good double-jump and killed a baddie before landing on him. If there was an option to crouch and attack (à la Zelda II). Otherwise, it was fun exploring. Good Metroidvania mechanics!

Souleater by Crefossus 2016-04-19T04:48:00

I burst out laughing with the pool of child tears bit. Comedic! Did you draw the environment as an image? It had a cool, almost painted look to it. The gliding mechanic reminded me a lot of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

I kept "dying" under the volcano, so and I wasn't really sure where to go from there, sadly. Otherwise, it was neat to play. I wanted to explore the king's palace in the beginning.

ShapeShiftShip by CheesyRamen 2016-04-19T04:19:00

This is a cool idea! I had a bit of trouble with the controls at first, and I wasn't 100% what my goal was, but it was a lot of fun playing around.

The graphics made really good use of WebGL's capabilities compared to a lot of Unity-in-the-browser stuff I've seen. The sense of depth also reminded me a bit of A New Hope as well, which is always a good thing. :P

Fast Dungeon by Andreas Brandt 2016-05-06T07:24:00

Tough as nails, but really cool. I'd love to see it with gamepad support!

I really liked the shading with the sprites, and how your icon faded into a skeleton.

Space Petting Zoo Crisis! by monika 2016-04-22T04:37:00

I love games that use smartphones as personal controllers, especially over web, so you're making me fall in love with you right now! The idea seems super cool to do with friends. I think I'll have to give it a go when I have some buddies over.

The only two things I found a bit hard was traversing across the map, especially just to switch two power generators, and the "janky" motion when moving. If there was some sort of animation smoothing, that would be really cool.

Otherwise, super idea. Thanks for sharing!

Modified Ballistics by Jeff0029 2016-05-06T07:20:00

Neat idea! As others have mentioned, aiming can be a little difficult, but the creativity is on point.

Biscuit Switch by retrogradeorbit 2016-04-18T05:27:00

On the first try, I stumbled around like a blind baker, totally unaware of how to fulfill my television master's orders. On my second try, I became hard and systematic, counting every last sheet of dough that came out of the roller. Success and profit was not frantic at all for me, just like the real world?

Cynicism aside, I loved the presentation of this game! The colours were fun and had a cute flair. I'd love to hear about how you made the inky pixel art. I haven't ever seen a game in Clojure too, which is awesome to see as well.

Shift that Shape! by Lagoe 2016-04-21T05:25:00

Good first project! The game overall was well-laid out, and easy to understand just by playing and experimenting.

Keep up the good work!

SUBJECT 26 by MSiddeek 2016-04-19T04:38:00

The story unfolded really well! The initial dialogue explaining the facility felt a bit silly-dystopian, but as you progress and hear more messages by the others, things become much more tense. I enjoyed the experience a lot!

Servants by Thomas Olsson 2016-04-22T05:31:00

Good job to the three of you! I could see elements that each of you brought to the game.

Also have to love the Frank/Stein elements in the game as well. ;P

I am Ned and I am a Hippo by Jun & Pate 2016-04-21T05:22:00

I loved the wikipedia link-opening in this game. I felt treated like an adult for once.

That Blue Square by argowen 2016-04-22T04:24:00

Good game! Apart from one or two things, I felt like the difficulty was the right level, and I enjoyed solving the puzzles. The "floating" mechanic made me feel smart, which is always a good way to entertain your player.

I found that some of the pits required me to make "leaps of faith" into spikes, which kind of went against the spirit of the game. That was a bit frustrating. Some sort of "level complete" effect would be cool tool.

Otherwise, a nice submission! Good work!

5h1ft by AlmightyTuna 2016-04-19T04:00:00

Cool top-down shooter! I liked how each weapon encouraged me to take on a different strategy. Some certainly felt preferable to others, or I felt like the shotgun gave me the most productivity compared to the double pistol. The music was really fitting too.

Played with WebGL on OS X. Thanks for porting it to Chrome!

Morphing Maria by Frozen Fractal 2016-04-21T06:02:00

I really admire how well-structured your puzzles were! I could have benefitted from that a lot.

I really enjoyed floor 10's gameplay compared to some of the earlier ones, probably because of the resource management with the boxes. That was cool.

Thanks for uploading!

Amorphosis by NvrSkipGameDay 2016-04-21T05:42:00

Good one-touch game! I can see how a this game translates to mobile really eloquently. The faces were fun to watch change as well.

I found I had a really short window to change to the next pattern, and I got the impression that there were holes I didn't have any forms for, which was a bit frustrating. Overall though, the core mechanics are in a good place.

The adventures of Wizard Hamster: The epic battle with dreadful Robot Cactus! by Shizor 2016-04-21T05:31:00

Cool game! I liked the instantaneous hamster-zapping. The fatalistic flair was fun to play.

Sometimes, I found it a bit hard to line the hamster up with the specific object I was trying to imitate, and that was a bit frustrating. Thankfully, the quick nature of the game allowed me to get back and try it again. This would probably make a nice ad-supported mobile game.

Shape has to shift by Angry_cyboot 2016-04-21T05:35:00

Cool idea. Having your form affect the physics is a neat way of doing things. I liked how simple the controls were with a two-button mouse. I could also kind of do it on my MacBook trackpad as well!

I found the game a bit quick, though, and sometimes a bit hard to have a good handle on what was going on. Maybe a bit of spacing or pacing, plus a few changes to the UI, and the game's idea has some cool stuff going on.

Monster Shift by swamppenguins 2016-04-20T06:00:00

The art is sweet. I really liked the variety in the monster types too.

This reminded me a little of the old free BSD game 'robots' you used to play in UNIX mainframe terminals. I'd love to see a unique spin with this concept and that game.

LD38 — A Small World

The Aliens by Nnnnneeeedddd 2017-05-01T06:23:12Z

Cool upgrading scheme! I certainly went for acceleration/speed, but I liked all the options available. The growth curve made a lot of sense. I liked the pixel art and style of the game.

The compo has a short timespan, and figuring out an ideal solution with Java games can be tricky, but I if you had an extra day, I'd suggest avoiding Java dialogue boxes for when the player wins or loses, as they can seem a bit jarring and take away from the experience.

Just as a heads up, running the jar on Linux didn't activate sound! Perhaps it was an issue with my machine? I'm using Lubuntu 17.04 on a ThinkPad T430 if that helps. I opted out of rating audio because of it.

``` $ java -jar TheAliens.jar Sounds are not workinga 60 ticks, 60 frames 60 ticks, 60 frames 60 ticks, 60 frames ... ```
Otherwise, awesome stuff! Keep up the good work!
Mallows World Adventure by geeitsomelaldy 2017-05-01T22:03:01Z
I loved the adventure/exploring mechanics of this game. There's a good amount of content for a compo entry!
The flag effects are also a really good way of quickly indicating that the players has stumbled upon a new place. I really enjoyed that.
Ruined Topology by jebouin 2017-05-01T06:41:32Z
Good presentation overall! I liked the little motions of all the characters. They were really entertaining in that way. I liked that there was always a way to "move forward" in each room, even if I didn't always know 100% when I was going to change screens!
The tile art is probably some of the best I've seen in a compo game for that resolution. Good work!
Protoware Planet by josefalanga 2017-05-01T05:39:56Z
This is probably the most performant/smooth-working Unity WebGL entry I've ever played. The shaders/colours have a great retro/futurefunk vibe.
I think the only thing I would want to change was a greater feeling of precision with the projectiles, but I do appreciate that they aren't super hitscan/quake-y.
SHBLÜH by zblah 2017-05-17T19:10:20Z
Fun endless runner! Apart from the initial running bit, did you use an Markov Chain to generate the layouts? At first it was a bit confusing about the green orbs being on danger areas, but once I realised that they switched things I became a lot more interested in the strategy and decisions I could make.
It'd be cool to see this expanded on! Good work!
Tiny Asteroid War by Hackingroelz 2017-05-17T19:28:28Z
Whoa, cool game! Having the bullets spin around the world like that was really cool. The small asset size also made a good fit for Unity WebGL, which tends to be crazy bloated.
At first, I died a lot trying to run forward while shooting and finding health pickups, but I'd often get pushed into an onslaught of bullets and never lasted long. Eventually I stumbled into running backwards while holding the spacebar and angling the stream of my shots, and a got a score closer to 40, which made me feel a little proud.
Around the world in 80 Seconds! by 4kbshort 2017-05-01T05:35:05Z
The writing was really comedic! :laughing: As a Canadian, I appreciated that you could travel from Calgary via Mountie.
Good use of the PICO-8!
Hopper by TechnoNugget 2017-05-01T07:11:32Z
I like the "explode" effect when you or another character dies. The way they hit the planets and make little sounds is really entertaining! The feedback, shapes, and colours are good fits for this. I appreciated that "charging" moves like jumping and shooting had previews so you could see their trajectory. A skillshot felt really rewarding.
The only thing I'd be tempted to suggest would be a few sprites here and there, or perhaps more colours? Otherwise, it's a great way to kill time on a computer.
Wood Womb by sheep42 2017-05-01T06:30:24Z
Hahah, I loved the comedy of messing around with the guy's stuff. All my friends that are cat owners seem to express the same sort of attitude towards their cats. Good use of the physics engine for this!
Also, the music at the end was great as well.
:laughing::cat::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Conquer Earth by Lars DK 2017-05-01T06:50:19Z
I gave Roxie a go, and kind of mined around and did stuff. I wasn't 100% how to do everything, but it was really neat to see stuff like this in Ludum Dare.
I'd love to play a paper/PDF version of this with some friends. The characters looked fun, and it'd be neat to apply that sort of narrative to these mechanics.
Holy Shit! A Spider !!! by Aurelien 2017-05-01T07:37:47Z
"Can you help me instead of cheering?!?" "Sorry man, I'm vegan."
I love the banter between the two characters. Putting a light on each piece of meat was really smart as well, or it helped me quickly find them with all the details as the game progressed.
I frequently underestimated the length of the newspaper, and often got squished from that, rather than my size, which was a little frustrating, but I was also probably being a bit too risky.
Overall, a really strong entry. Good work!
a-small-world by PaperclipBadger 2017-05-17T19:39:27Z
Haha, I like the fish-slapping mechanic. I'll admit, my comedic timing is pretty bad! It's a cool idea though.
Suds of War by James Dunlap 2017-05-01T06:05:53Z
I liked that you did a tactics game for the jam. I'd be pretty overwhelmed doing a genre like that!
I didn't realize I could attack from certain distances until after my sponge was under siege, but otherwise, the theme was really neat.
If you have time, you might want to `chmod a+x ./SudsOfWar-rc1-Linux-Universal*` for the Linux binaries, as their user permissions are not set to initially run on first unzip.
Fungi Dash by illugion 2017-04-25T18:48:58Z
This is cool! :smiley: Did you do it in web/JavaScript? If so, what engine?
YOSILand (Your Small Inner Land) by tn7111 2017-05-01T07:00:30Z
The animations with the paper cards are neato. I liked the scanned effect, and the themes about finding balance between things in life.
I think some colour would help, especially since each type of little person represents a different value or paradigm. Their shapes do help serve that though!
Monolith by samlo 2017-05-04T20:12:17Z
When I think about how I would create what you've made here, it shows that you were really productive with your design decisions. I admire that! The stylised look was really effective too. I love the dithering with your shader.
Depth Gun by leafo 2017-04-29T03:28:29Z
I really enjoy playing these sorts of shooters, so I liked this a lot!
I like the scaling/shrinking of sprites to create a tunnel-looking effect as well. It reminds me of old Sega arcade games like Power Drift and Galaxy Force II.
RC kitchen Throwdown by oxrock 2017-05-01T07:26:44Z
The dog was always on my tail! (pun totally intended :smile:)
I liked the use of primitives to illustrate what everything was. It had a cool consistent feeling to it and reminded me of these [3D-animated cartoons they used to show on Canadian TV when I was a child](https://youtu.be/X173yUwJTLQ?list=PLbs7tv2MBGMDnZ1tHYFaG39JUTTMvJDEt).
Seeing all the chairs knock over was fun with the dog as well.
Micro Grotto by xnblank 2017-05-17T19:20:29Z
This is a really nice entry! The mechanics are well-introduced, and the animations/gestures are super cute. I liked double-tapping the door once I had the key. It felt nice after figuring out puzzle.
One tiny nitpick would be that I'd occasionally _dodge_ a pickup item as it shot towards me. Or, I'd walk close to it, then double back out of its trajectory and it would fly offscreen. That's something that can be fixed with a little bit of tweening, but otherwise pickups were great and felt rewarding.
Incidental Dimension by wildmusketeer 2017-05-01T05:21:13Z
The graphics reminded me a lot of [Sonic X-Treme's](https://youtu.be/wzvS_beXtXk?t=11s gameplay) from back on the Sega Saturn, which is cool! Did you use something like a vertex shader to warp the playing area into a 3D shape?
I found dying and having to restart the level a little frustrating, but it was interesting to see how the physics engine made the blocks get pushed around by fireballs. I liked that a lot.
Overall, thanks for uploading!
SUNLESS by pell707 2017-05-01T18:16:50Z
Cool style! I liked the flat tones and how they made such nice-looking levels. Also, using the "green-colouring" on the first level was a cool touch.
FUEL by KCreanor 2017-05-01T07:44:09Z
Great mechanic. I have one of those red [mouse nub things on the ThinkPads](https://c.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/20130703_120527-580x435.jpg), and it's fun to shoot around with the speed you can fling the cursor at.
I think it'd work great with gamepad support. Or, being able to use the analog stick to control direction/speed would be an awesome fit.
Overall, great work! It looks slick. :smile:
Cosmic Cleaner by Burgee 2017-05-01T05:31:37Z
I loved the expressions of the little planets when the ball gets close to them. Their faces are priceless!
The level layouts are interesting, and make unique puzzles each time. I feel like it was hard to figure out cause/effect in some cases though, and I feel like a little preview line for the first Nx10 pixels of my shot would have been appreciated. Otherwise, strong entry!
Small Puzzle by NicoAPOIL 2017-05-01T05:50:35Z
When I had the a-ha moment here I loved it!
It was a bit tricky to figure out when I could "pull" stuff, but otherwise this was a really entertaining Puzzlescript game. Well done!
Castaway by 4BeardedBeards 2017-05-03T00:14:06Z
Nice use of the theme! I enjoyed the comical nature of the sound effects, plus the fact that there's a burger orchard. :smile:
Competing with other players felt a bit mundane at times, I guess since it's kind of about filling up bars, but a good core is there to expand on. I think with some more stuff this would be a great party game.
New God in the Town by erdiizgi 2017-05-01T05:01:54Z
Interesting! This game reminded me of Pac-Man a lot with the little characters running around the maze.
I liked how it generated and figured out the relationships between each of the players on the map. I found reading their names upside down a bit challenging though!
