LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Generic Adventure Game by Jezzamon 2014-05-01T04:08:00

Love it.

At some point, it seemed to start playing two different pieces of background music, so I muted it. From the comments, it seems like the clue to the last level is in sound, but I can't listen to it. What's the trick?

DEA Simulator by Siewart 2014-04-28T02:48:00

Indeed. This looks fun. I'll check back later to see if you've added a link.

Mole supervisor by callmemonamiral 2014-05-01T00:45:00

Enjoyable.

I got stuck on one level because some miner had decided the last pile of gold was his, so all the other miners were just standing around doing nothing, including one who seemed to be blocking the non-lazy miner from getting to the gold.

Anyway, I hope you fix it up. I like games like this.

Mole supervisor by callmemonamiral 2014-05-01T02:55:00

Is it bad to let goblins kill your workers so you can replace them with ones who aren't really far away and complaining?

Office Simulator 2014 by FuzzyWuzzie 2014-04-28T17:24:00

There's a couch in the women's restroom.

Humor 5/5

War Meeting by Dr_V 2014-05-01T01:19:00

I love it :)

This is the kind of game in which I can see myself getting lost in the mechanics. I was giddy when I found out you had left the Flixel debugging interface on, because I thought I'd get to see some cool stuff like the underlying numbers or something, but you didn't actually write anything to the log.

War Meeting by Dr_V 2014-05-01T01:20:00

(I'm totally going to dig through your source code. Hope you don't mind.)

War Meeting by Dr_V 2014-05-01T01:32:00

Is that a Box–Muller transform? Nice :)

War Meeting by Dr_V 2014-05-01T01:33:00

I have no idea what just happened. Box-Muller.

Excogitatoris by Conchlab Games 2014-04-28T02:45:00

Cute! Checking before I rate it - is it just the one level? I could never tell if I was running out of time or actually making it though the door and then starting over.

Franz Kafka's A Hunger Artist by monika 2014-04-28T07:23:00

:) My idea going in was that it's based on a Kafka short story. The story, like all of Kafka's work, is deep and dark and full of metaphors and stuff. This game is just the surface of that. (It's a little backwards, I know. I should have taken a shallow story and made a deep game.)

Franz Kafka's A Hunger Artist by monika 2014-04-28T21:39:00

@Anna, here you go.

Franz Kafka's A Hunger Artist by monika 2014-05-03T09:00:00

@Groove :) Working on it for a full-featured version. Thanks!

And the Moment Is Gone by Mike Mezhenin 2014-04-29T06:01:00

I felt bad for the girl. She clearly didn't want to talk to me. I should have just left her alone.

Save Us by philip_sinclair 2014-04-28T21:16:00

Nice!

Basement by Halfbus 2014-04-29T16:47:00

Love it.

I figured out a stock management system that worked fairly well - try to always keep an empty stock room and keep your raw material supply low, and you'll never get in that situation where whatever you are producing fastest takes up all your room and prevents you from making anything else.

Looking forward to a fully featured, balanced version.

In Hiding by Sheepolution 2014-05-01T07:59:00

Time to go all M*A*S*H on this story and mentally replace the baby with a chicken so I can cope.

Wait, that might not work with this wording.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Tightrope Theatre by AdventureIslands 2014-12-12T01:29:00

Very cute. It's like every annoying platformer ice level but less annoying and with a better explanation than "ice".

Super Snow Girl by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2014-12-10T08:06:00

That art is ridiculously cute and ridiculously expressive. I'll have to check out your other games as well.

Fruit Factory by abdurrahmankh 2014-12-13T23:11:00

Very fun. Like a lot of people here, I had a fair bit of trouble with the controls at first but got better at flying the robot as I played. Still never quite mastered dropping the fruit where I wanted to drop it, but I'll probably get better at that with more practice too. Might need to find a second player. I tried playing both players at once, and I'm pretty sure I'm blacklisted from ever working in a fruit factory again now.

Galaxia by greysphere 2014-12-16T05:31:00

At 0.0012%, all my numbers started overflowing and it stopped letting me send out colony ships. I was so close!

Space Dwarves by CMWeissMedia 2014-12-13T23:33:00

I like this. I'm going to have to come back and play it more later. Lots of stars for you.

Could possibly use a little more intelligent path planning. A lot of times, my dwarves took paths to get to where I wanted them to go that required a lot more mining than was actually necessary. If you expand it any more, you might want to get them to consider going around obstacles.

Snowkoban by BuzzJeux 2014-12-09T02:33:00

That's a really cute start. Love the graphics. Is the third level shown in your screenshot accessible from the game? If so, how do I get to it?

aspire by zillix 2014-12-10T07:51:00

Nice! Really enjoyed it. I seemed to need 8 coins to buy the 7-coin object but it's possible I didn't buy it right the first time. Also, I could move past the obstacle in the first level by moving in front of the door after I died, but that's after I've done it once so it doesn't allow me to skip learning controls.

The Cathedral by brogrammers 2014-12-09T04:15:00

Quite pretty, and I enjoyed playing it.

Found a bug: If I get the buildings that unlock other buildings twice, the other buildings show up twice in the menu.

PostFour : Reconstruction by monika 2014-12-09T07:08:00

Dropbox has been dropped. I've moved it to google docs for now. I'm going to look into itch.io hosting.

PostFour : Reconstruction by monika 2014-12-09T17:06:00

Thanks! I've added a version that won't try to load the music. That should fix it.

PostFour : Reconstruction by monika 2014-12-14T04:13:00

Glad you liked it!

To answer your question, traveling is the fastest way to pass time. You can also pass time by trading with anyone other than yourself, especially between groups that hate each other. (Politics!)

I do plan to add icons on the map to make it easier to tell who's starving, and I also plan to add some information about long it's going to take for planets to grow to full capacity and stuff. I also plan to add in some story, with politics and stuff. I'll keep you in mind for testing!

(I probably won't be able to get to it to late January, but I will get around to it because I like this game too.)

PostFour : Reconstruction by monika 2014-12-15T16:18:00

@p1x3lrucku - is it possible you beat the game? The close buttons go away when the game is over, and the end game screen is the treaty screen with some text replaced. I might need to make it more obvious that that is what happens.

I'll also look into it being a bug. Thanks for letting me know!

Christmas Doodles by BUNN1E5 2014-12-27T13:34:00

Your host appears to be down today. I'll have to check back later.

Man on the Field by Double Zero One Zero 2014-12-15T06:21:00

I saw the screenshots and thought "That looks like that great newspaper game from two jams ago."

Lots of fun and even better than that great newspaper game from two jams ago. I'm going to need to come back and try again with a better mouse later.

Overserious Snowball Fight by shcromlet 2014-12-18T06:10:00

It's a good start. I liked the accuracy/time thing in theory, though it could use some tightening up; sometimes snowballs didn't seem to behave predictably even given the explicit randomness in the aiming system.

I hear you on the "took an hour to do something simple" thing you mentioned in the blog. Jams are weird that way. You can get stuck on something that should be easy, and you can't even really step away from it because you're on a ridiculous deadline and it's going to take time either way.

The Box by OriginalOldMan 2014-12-29T08:26:00

I've learned something about myself: I will give full humor points to games that whine about the theme. :)

The puzzle design was solid. If you polish it up, let me know.

LD31 - Catstation - João Marinheiro & Daniel Pereira by jocamar 2014-12-10T07:25:00

Nice! You said this is your first Ludum Dare - have you made games before?

Super Start World by calavera 2014-12-13T23:18:00

Is there a high score list somewhere? I want to see how good my 11 is compared to everyone else's.

Together In Thousands by Os_Reboot 2014-12-18T06:01:00

This is fantastic. I hope to see you in more jams in the future.

The jittery noise in the pixel color was a really nice touch.

There wasn't a lot of feedback in the game, and it wasn't that intuitive figuring out what was going on or what did what, even with the instructions, so if you touch up the game some, those would be some things to work on. It also didn't seem to take a lot to win even before I realized the right side did things too, so it might need some balance to make it harder.

::thumbs up::

Glitch by Arovoid 2014-12-10T07:35:00

Liked it a lot! It was a little hard to tell the difference between the blue of no fog of war and the black of fog of war on my monitor, and I don't think of this monitor as having contrast issues, but I might check again on my other monitors later. But I'd recommend upping that contrast a bit. Also wasn't sure where to find fuel. But I had fun running around looking and it was really pretty! Hope to see you next time.

Bench Press Jerry by Joshuaflitcroft 2014-12-14T18:13:00

Every time I though I had heard the funniest noise, there was another funnier noise waiting for me.

Happy Ludumdare by Halfbus 2014-12-09T09:05:00

Five Nights at Freddy's has me so well trained, after I figured out how to look around and play with the flashlight, it didn't even occur to me to try to move for several minutes.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Ice Story ( koori monogatari 氷物語 ) by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2015-04-22T21:22:00

Lovely! It does a really good job capturing that look and feel of the old Taito games. The art is amazing and the gaameplay is fun and reasonably responsive.

I had trouble consistently hitting x and z at the same time, and would often jump or cast ice when trying to throw, but that also felt authentic because controllers at the time had trouble with multiple key input. :)

Weapon Shortage by Spaghetti and Meatball 2015-04-24T02:59:00

Cute idea, decently executed for the timeframe. Fun, funny, and creative. Good job.

bloodshot by rogueNoodle 2015-04-25T20:36:00

Fun, and fantastically difficult to balance at first. I had to find a mouse since it was hard to aim with my touchpad, and then realized I was doing better the less I shot at things, which was an interesting way to really figure out the mechanics.

Lisa vs. the Tornado by Wertle 2015-04-22T19:25:00

That was chilling. Full points for mood.

Confession: I eventually ended up ctrl-Aing the screen so I wouldn't have to do the creepy flashlight thing, which is totally cheating, but that I felt the need to do it is a testament to the effect :)

Mystic Stickup by Beardo Games 2015-04-21T04:32:00

Love it so much. Gorgeous as always.

Tip for people who can't see the keys in the web browser: Try zooming out. I think it has to do with Windows scaling - on my high-res monitor, I have Windows scaling set at 150%, and had to zoom the site to 67% to compensate.

New Grafflebog Colony by monika 2015-04-26T01:57:00

Thanks for catching that! The scripts in the game will only run if you are logged on to Google / GDocs.

New Grafflebog Colony by monika 2015-04-26T02:01:00

I've added a video by Wertle for anyone who is curious but doesn't want to play.

Coin Cannon by Lancelot Gao 2015-04-26T02:48:00

Very fun, with gorgeous art!

The single-miss => death thing was a little harsh, but there's nothing wrong with a challenge.

Selfie Assault! by mint 2015-04-26T03:02:00

That was really fun. It reinded me of the old movie "La Macchina Ammazzacattivi".

Is there a way to tell if you got them all? I think I did, but I'm going to be looking through my cell phone camera for green boxes uneasily for the rest of my life.

DiaBeatMe Patisserie by William Florencio 2015-04-24T03:22:00

Charming art! I couldn't beat it, but I came close a few times. I might give it a few more tries.

I couldn't move my mouse when I was walking - was this intentional?

Sir Sprout and the Semi-Aquatic Rodent Menace by dydx 2015-04-21T06:25:00

Really cute. I thought it did a good job letting me know that there were certain things I could do in certain places, even if I hadn't realized that there were seeds following me. Some good old-school "this is a special area and you should do something to it" messaging.

Unconventional Guns by rectangular Tim 2015-04-24T03:36:00

This is a fantastic puzzle game! The difficulty curve is just right, the pace of mechanics introductions, everything. The art is cute, the puzzles are interesting, the premise is amusing. Good job!

Project Pigeon by LimeniusTeam 2015-04-26T00:44:00

Fun, but I found it incredibly difficult with a touchpad. I wish the penalty for missing were not equal to the reward for hitting.

No casualties by GromHoll 2015-04-30T00:58:00

A great start to a strategy game. Made me nostalgic for the old V for Victory games.

Trojan Horse Simulator: The Art of Subterfuge by freeholdgames 2015-04-24T08:57:00

I've never seen an LD game that made me think "This. This is what 5 stars of fun feels like." This was instantly engaging and immensely satisfying. Good job.

Disaster Theatre by 12 Pechás Of Souls 2015-04-21T07:38:00

Lovely! I occasionally had trouble aiming, but I'm playing lying in bed on a touchpad so that's probably my fault. Prettiest game I've seen so far, the music fit, and it was pretty fun, too.

Dysforgiveness by evilseanbot 2015-04-24T03:54:00

Amazing! I know I have velcro lying around...

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Family Board Game Night: The Board Game by monika 2015-12-15T21:56:00

@Zarkith That would be amazing! I sent you a tweet. Curious about the process.

Family Board Game Night: The Board Game by monika 2015-12-17T08:06:00

@tuism - your board game collection starts at 4 boring games and can grow to up to 25 games. (We were also thinking about taking a picture with people using literal buttons as trackers for morale and current week.)

As for strategy, it's mostly in picking what you want to do throughout the week. Because you can see everyone's schedule at the beginning of the week before you claim days to DM, and because games are claimed by DMs on a first-come-first-serve basis, you can force family members to miss games they would benefit the most from and get stuck playing games they hate.

(And for the in-universe games, any game with "TAC" and "WM" in the corner is a strategy game, since it benefits from both tactical thinking and the ability to keep lots of things in mind.)

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Meowtastic Present Panic by OnionBlaze 2015-12-18T10:37:00

That felt quite polished! No noticeable rough edges or anything that felt like a placeholder.

Scored 13. I think I ate too many cookies and that slowed me down.

IVY by TRAB 2015-12-17T05:27:00

Beautiful! I like puzzle games, but I absolutely love it when one surprises me with a clever, simple mechanic.

LD35 — Shapeshift

A Soul of Clay by fullmontis 2016-05-01T12:35:00

Nice! I got pretty far by myself, but couldn't get the bird bones out of the cage. Gave up and looked at the walkthrough, but it confirmed I was doing the right thing. Still don't know why it wasn't working. That and the slow, unreadable-until-done text were the only issues. Well done!

Acute Clinic by Lady Beardo 2016-04-20T12:27:00

Now I get to feel smug knowing I'd be a good person who doesn't pressure people into doing things they don't want to do, even when I'm a fictional plastic surgeon! Thank you!

Can't Drive This - #cantdrivethis by pixel_maniacs 2016-04-26T05:38:00

Observation - impossible to play with a touchpad since it doesn't work at the same time as the keyboard. Keyboard controls would be nice.

Biological Warfare by Patomkin 2016-05-01T10:58:00

Pretty fun. I wish there had been some control sensitivity settings; I spent most of the time chasing the heart that popped off of me when I hit a wall, and then hitting the wall on the other side of the heart.

I was able to get in this morning. Dropbox ::shrug::

Cute robot! I kept accidentally eating guys I meant to talk to, but that's probably because I am bad at waking up.

The Fable of Gina by danbolt 2016-04-22T10:57:00

After my third death on the spike corridor, I opened up dev tools gave myself an extra 20 lives. Other than the (totally thematically believable) difficulty, pretty fun!

Got stuck waiting for a monster who was blocking the path before the first key once, and some of the "this is the path you have to take now but there'll be a shortcut later" bits were almost too long, but they all felt like the kinds of rapid prototyping issues that happen in jams and get cleaned up right away with any extra development; it felt basically finished and ready for QA and polish.
