I love the art style and music for this game! I only managed to get the first couple of coins, but it's really well done.
Good presentation overall! I liked the little motions of all the characters. They were really entertaining in that way. I liked that there was always a way to "move forward" in each room, even if I didn't always know 100% when I was going to change screens!
The tile art is probably some of the best I've seen in a compo game for that resolution. Good work!
The game has a great concept and a lot of polish around it. I really liked the animation of the characters/particles. The game has a very VVVVV vibe to it. I was pretty lost after a few rooms, and maybe a minimap would help? (but perhaps this is intentional, then ignore my comment!) Overall, a really polished piece that's fun to explore.
Got 11 coins; I have no idea how to get the 4 coins which are not on standable areas... Great game! Especially love the music, the animation and the level design parts!
Thanks for playing!
@wildmusketeer Figuring how the rooms are connected is definitely an intended gameplay mechanic. I should have added some visual feedback for the special tiles to reduce the confusion though.
@ikigaiseitetsu You can shoot them with your gun! Maybe it was not clear enough, but I didn't want the coins to be too easy to get.
Fun game, loved having to try and find my way around with such a limited space to move in. Made me think about how I needed to move through each room and manipulate the slimes to open doors for me
Wooooooo, great game! The graphics are awesome, and the music is a mixture of chiptune with drums :P love that.
At first I found myself running in circles, then I figured out. And the stone messages are awesome xD
Rated!
What a great little package. It looks like a small experience and then unfolds into an intricate labyrinthine spaghetti. The cool part to me is that in concept it's just a simple maze game, but instead of putting the doors on the edges of the screen or in visible locations you put them in the middle of the room and in less than obvious places. Really changes to feel from something known and predictable to unknown and fascinating. Also, the music was excellent and well above game jam par. Overall really excellent work. My one gripe--why are the slime shadows vector? Those beautiful pixels..
@ryguydavis I'm glad you enjoyed the game! As for the shadows, I usually scale everything up so that things are pixelated. This time I used a new game framework and I wasn't fully comfortable with it so I neglected some details like this one.
This game was so well designed... Definitely the standout for me so far! Even though the gameplay was simple, the concept was innovative, and almost all major aspects for a polished game were in there: gameplay, level design, puzzles, audio, pixel art, simple AI, etc.. Everything was pretty much perfect! (although I only beat the game with 8/15 coins)
Very cool. I really like the overall atmosphere. I wish there were some kind of hint (or rhyme and reason) to the exits to each tile, but I guess not having them is kind of the point!
Definitely worth expanding out into a larger game!
@jebouin Yeah, it looked purely like a gamejam "focus on what is important" decision. It's such a minor gripe it almost wasn't worth including.
Fantastic game. I'm finding myself not only going around collecting gems, but I also went back to the Bottomless Pits to listen to the music again. The only complaint I had was that it was difficult to get to the right angle around a slime without being hit, but really thats just part of the challenge. There was a bug I encountered where when you respawned you were hit immediately — I think it was because you spawned where an enemy just was a frame ago, but can't be sure.
Very nice concept and innovative. I also like the audio,it fits the game. I think that maybe some kind of hint when moveing from room to room would be nice. I know it's probably part of the design but sometimes it's frustrating not knowing where to go at all. It's very nice anyway, good job!
Probably the best audio in a Compo game so far! Very clever world mechanics, control felt great even in a small arena full of endless pits and bouncing slimes, I never felt cheated. Great great great!
Really love a lot of the level design in this. You can tell it's carefully done by hand to make a very nice set of puzzles, but it's not overly confusing and a good exercise in memory as well. Also, very nice touch adding in that little quest in the middle, and the soundtrack was lovely. The music in the Bottomless Pit almost reminds me of something The Beatles might do.
Very entertaining game, and it kept me very engaged for quite a while.
Fun game. I really like the visuals.
Love the concept, music and graphics - however there are some problems I am having with controls not reflecting in the player's direction, as well as the spawn points of some of the slimes. I'm determined to find all 15 coins, but I admit it is quite challenging!
The art is really good, it's a really trippy game tho
I really felt like I was lost in the ruins. I got 10/15 coins. I couldn't figure out how to get some of the coins in the bottomless pits even though I figured out I could shoot to move them.
Awesome music, and the game feels finished right up to the end ;) Finding the right routes is a bit tedious though, since not all triggers give a sound and there does not appear to be much logic to them. I got 9 coins!
