LD24 — Evolution

Virion by Pacifist Games 2012-09-08T13:00:00

The movement is perhaps realistic in it's floatiness, and I do like the fluidity of it all, but it's often not tight enough for the tricky manoeuvres required, especially with the large large collision area. That said a very nice looking and sounding game :)

Amazing Neko Neko Shop by Yakka 2012-09-08T11:55:00

I couldn't get the sound to work I'm afraid :S Even after installing OpenAL32.dll. Because of the amount of random involved it can be a bit difficult to breed exactly the cat you're looking for. Still, I love all the hilarious mutations that are possible :)

Bots Vs Fleshbags by vicethal 2012-09-01T11:08:00

Web entries are good: easy to play :) Good effort, although I couldn't figure out how the game related to the theme I'm afraid.

Run and Transform by plule 2012-09-01T10:19:00

Ubuntu 10.04 64bit: module 'hump.class' not found <:S

Run and Transform by plule 2012-09-08T12:33:00

I love the animation, though I found the choice of colours made obstactles (especially fish) really hard to see at times! Good job anyway - couldn't get it to work on Linux but it runs on Windows 7 64 bit :)

Surprise Cat Secks! by wilbefast 2012-08-27T20:21:00

I've turned off audio pre-loading altogether (comment 3 lines) since the line "audio.addEventListener('canplaythrough', resourceLoaded);" doesn't seem to perform as it should on Firefox. The game should now load on Firefox.

Surprise Cat Secks! by wilbefast 2012-09-02T11:33:00

No but there should be ;) I'll add that to the post-compo version!

Cuboid Sandbox by cominu 2012-09-01T10:56:00

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit: /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.14' not found (required by ./CuboidSandboxLD24-linux)

Guess I should update my operating system :S

Moore's Game by rwos 2012-09-12T18:33:00

Wow, what a cool idea :) A game about the evolution of games - nice! Though of course while the concept is great, the number of games need to be made means that none of them are particularly polished :S It's the thought that counts though, especially for a 48-hour jam.

Darwinphony by philosophistry 2012-09-02T23:36:00

I like it :) glad you put a video up to explain how everything works though - I'd have been completely lost otherwise!

Dr. Ken and Dr. Ken by Dry Tree 2012-09-01T10:20:00

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit: ./game_linux: /lib32/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.15' not found (required by ./game_linux) :'(

Meow for MUTATION! by marudziik 2012-09-08T12:25:00

I'm afraid I get a blank screen on Windows 7 64 bit, Firefox. I'll try on Linux: looks interesting, similar to mine and Yakka's. Do great minds think alike, or is breeding cats just naturally awesome?

Meow for MUTATION! by marudziik 2012-09-12T18:27:00

On Linux it seems to work okay on both Firefox and Chromium... though Firefox cuts off the bottom part of the screen so I can't see the bars. For the early levels you're just waiting for a characteristic to appear, but the game does become more interesting later on when you need multiple creatures with multiple characteristics :) Good work!

Omega Architecture by kibertoad 2012-09-08T12:54:00

I got so obsessed with my economy that I forgot about the microbes... I think they all die :'( Nice to see a strategy/management game for a change! I also really like the music and voice-acting, fantastic stuff.

Super Genome: Hyper Evolution Turbo Edition by Raptor85 2012-09-01T10:45:00

Interesting gq;em especiqlly fro; the point of viez of technology/

The above is me typing using a QWERTY layout. Since my keyboard has an AZERTY layouts there's nothing I dislike more than hard-coded WASD controls -_-'

Aside from the pet-peeve though, you've followed the theme well, even if that's not technically how evolution works :P The gameplay does come down to moving to an enemy and waiting for it to die though... maybe I'm just not much of an RPG fan.

Overall: this is a great achievement for a 48 hour game using SDL (you're insane - use something easier next time!). Congratulations :)

Evolution of War by odrega 2012-09-01T10:51:00

Working on Firefox on Ubuntu 10.04 :) Good effort, keep at it and one day people will be inspired by you!

Cytosine by Frozen Fractal 2012-09-08T12:14:00

5/5 everywhere for me :) fun, fits the theme perfectly, good sound, nice visual style... honestly I have nothing to add. I was going to ask what parameters influenced evolution but I found the link to your blog post.

What I found interesting is that my population quickly evolved a clustering behaviour: since only those agents that stay close together breed, this is to be expected. Fascinating seeing this principals in action! I'll be sharing this on when I'm back on my Linux partition...

Super Charles Darwin by gnx 2012-09-08T12:05:00

I really like the sound and music, and the premise is just hilarious ^_^ shooting dudes off raptors to the sound of a wilhelm scream is very satisfying as well - though the platforming isn't quite so well done. I think the "feel" of the character movement needs a bit of work: by feel I mean what Doom or Knytt or Meat Boy have and the rest of us can only dream of. The platforming also required quasi pixel-perfection, which is a little frustrating.

Overall a good game with a good sense of humour - one good enough that you wish it was better ;)

LD26 — Minimalism

Gods Will Be Watching by Deconstructeam 2013-04-30T16:24:00

Euh, I suck at your game :'(

Lightrail by Geoege 2013-05-08T19:46:00

Simple, elegant design, though the difficulty is somewhat sadistic! Personally I'd prefer an all-mouse or an all-keyboard control scheme for the sake of ergonomics, but that's just nit-picking. Well done, I give this game "spud" out of a possible "potato".

Back to Rainbows by Nangie 2013-05-08T17:52:00

Kudos for using SDL/C++ during a game-jam, especially for making a platformer (all the physics code is a pain in the ass to write) though I'd recommend something simpler in future ;) You're improving: this is all just stepping stones to greatness!

Double Edged by pereubu 2013-05-08T17:55:00

Damn it, *I* was going to make this game :P Ah well, I guess now I don't have to. Nice one: the sound and music are both great, as is the art-style, and stealth on a single screen was a very ambitious design challenge to take on.

There are a few readability issues, though this comes in part from the fact that showing information to one player hides it from another. I'd like more feedback on kills and deaths though: check out Samurai Gun to see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IJZ3TSjuaE

Different Gameplays by Toki Anholmes 2013-05-08T18:25:00

Having to build 6 different gameplay showcases in 48 hours means that none of them can be explored particularly deeply, but I really like the *idea* behind it all, and the music and aesthetic style really go well with the theme (this is a theme that not many people have paid close attention to, so it's worth nothing). Good job ;)

The Minimalism Quest by Pol 2013-05-06T11:16:00

Get psychiatric help ;P

A thing about nothingness by Pierrec 2013-05-08T16:54:00

Fuck I just spend like 40 minutes trying to come back with nothing and even that wasn't good enough :'( Very good game anyway, it really gives the experience of being a philosopher's pupil.

WAY. by celiacjoe 2013-05-08T18:15:00

Love it, go make a serious game to teach kids to type ;) A little tricky to get the hang of of course, you should make some sort of tutorial if you want to publish this.

FlatLandThought by van noctar 2013-05-08T18:40:00

I'm not sure how to win :S

Agoraphobia by PiotGuy 2013-05-08T17:35:00

Very original - so much so that it feels somewhat random to begin with. The difficulty curve is nasty :o

Boom Box by WhatTheTeam 2013-05-16T19:55:00

Nice one :D a game I think I'll actually try playing again later when I have a friend to spare.
You might turn a few people off with the need for an XBox controller the fact that XNA needs to be installed though (not to mention the fact that it doesn't run on Linux... automatic -100 points!)

Atom That Matters by Babek 2013-05-08T17:03:00

I found this rather difficult to play I'm afraid to say :-S the camera is behind the katamari so you can't actually see where you're going. This makes aiming at planets very difficult. Maybe make it slightly transparent? Nice looking and nice ambient music though :)

Mini Car Racing by rockford 2013-05-06T11:14:00

Simple, but works very well :)

Traite de taoisme applique aux canons lasers by Griffablanc 2013-05-08T17:40:00

Somehow after playing this I don't feel very calm and in harmony with the universe. I want my money back :P
Love the art, a little too difficult for uncoordinated old me though :S

X PRESS by Pitoum 2013-05-16T20:26:00

Good job guys!

Minimalazor by Robotic 2013-05-08T17:46:00

"In this game, less is more, in terms of shooting. This is a minimalist platform-shooter. " Enough said. I love everything about this game, 5/5 or me :)

LD27 — 10 Seconds

10 second onsalught by wilbefast 2013-08-27T20:17:00

Fixed "can't placed units near other units" bug :)

10 second onsalught by wilbefast 2013-09-03T09:59:00

@Pickens: Is a tutorial the sort of thing you're "allowed" to add during the voting period? I thought it was just bug fixes.

@Jupiter: cool \o/ mind if I link to your video at the top of the page?

10 second onsalught by wilbefast 2013-09-03T10:06:00

@Laelien: clearing the area with bombs just before you guys teleport in can be useful... and it looks really cool ;)

We're planning on having more varied monsters in the post-compo version, so you'll need to be a bit more strategic with your placements (for instance: monsters with mortar attacks will encourage you to appear behind enemy lines).

Everybody Loves the Fluffy Mania by Nangie 2013-09-03T09:58:00

Good job Angie - see what happens when you don't use C++ ^_^

You need to work on the memory load next time: depending on the browser the number of large images can really slow things to a crawl. For the potato mini-game for instance: the foreground sprites could be separated out and positioned in the code so the background isn't stored multiple times.

Gameplay-wise I found the pause between mini-games to be too long and too unpredictable. I need some sort of indication that the game is about to begin so I can get ready, but I was never able to predict when that was going to be :S
The games themselves are nicely varied and good fun though ;)

SoulReaver by CarmineGames 2013-09-10T11:47:00

On Arch Linux 64 bit I'm getting an "Error: Could not find or load main class SoulReaver-1.0.jar" for the jar.

For the binary it gets stuck at "[OS] Detected Linux (linux, 3.10.3-1-arch)"

:'(

What did you make/build this with?

10 Seconds by kannas 2013-09-10T11:59:00

Nice one :) A good idea well-executed. A lot of work clearly went into the choice of sound, it really creates an interesting mood. It's regrettable that the two bandits are carbon copies. Also: honourable win mo'fo's XD

Protozoa by Pumkin 2013-09-03T09:15:00

Your "windows" download works natively on Linux - because Löve ;)

Nice little game - again I'd have liked a bit more inertia on the movements. The visual style is good though the level of polish is quite different between the game and the menus. Sounds are coherent with the events happening on screen but a bit generic, so don't quite fit with the universe.

All told for a first attempt with Love, pretty bloody good ;) well done chaps/chapesses.

Protozoa by Pumkin 2013-09-03T09:16:00

(may need to take another look at the English though :P )

At the cafe by Pierrec 2013-09-03T08:39:00

Gah, I just can't seem to hold hands properly - this game is too much like reality :'(

Very cute Pierre, seriously it's like cuteness at weaponisable levels ;) I'll write again when I've managed to finish it :P

Five Seconds by Latcarf 2013-09-03T08:57:00

Really nice little game, with plenty of polish :) The keyboard movement needs to be adjust though: it's far to "fidgety". I'd recommend adding an artificial "gravity" (that's what Unity calls it anyway) to the keyboard inputs. That is rather than snapping immediately from -1 to 1 when you release LEFT and press RIGHT, have a linear interpolation of each axis towards the current input. You get this "by default" with a joystick so I can see how the game would work with a gamepad, but with a keyboard it's a bit tricky at the moment.

The Red Door by ticlekiwi 2013-09-03T09:05:00

I really like how the music and gameplay complement eachother in this game. It's simple, but it's got a nicely "finished" quality to it.

I couldn't get past the level where you get the gun, probably I just suck :'(

The Red Door by ticlekiwi 2013-09-03T09:06:00

I do find the air physics a tad "floaty" I have to admit :/

Potato Lagoon by rezoner 2013-09-10T11:38:00

Linux user high-five ^_^ awesome game :D Very polished, very finished, and the audio is great (potato, potato, potato)... Not my favourite control scheme of all time, but somehow the humour (crying vegetables) and sheer insanity mean that I don't really mind dying at all :)

Chrono Blood Ninja by theholychicken 2013-09-10T11:43:00

Looks good, unfortunately I'm on Linux :-S Perhaps you could port this to Monogame some day?

Pirates! by djwildebeest 2013-09-10T12:07:00

It's good you put a controls menu in there - that's something we forgot to do for ours. I wasn't able to figure out which ship as was at the beginning, and until seeing the control screen it wasn't clear whether my input was doing anything or what. I'd say the main thing to work on is feedback ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg )

There's room for improvement, but it runs and it's a function game ;)

CHRGNG PLS W8 by bonsairobo 2013-09-10T11:53:00

On Arch Linux 64 bit I'm getting an "error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

"pacman -S sdl
warning: sdl-1.2.15-3 is up to date -- reinstalling"
I've worked with the unstable SDL libraries before, not too keen on installing them again :-S

One Way by flavio 2013-09-03T21:57:00

Very nice :) I'm guessing this'll be one of the best ranked for mood and audio, and it's nice to look at too :D Not much in the way of gameplay, but then that's not really what you were going for I don't think. Again this shows the limits of "games" as a category. Not to bring up that debat then, as a interactive experience in general this has some serious merit ;)

Hellish Copter by Laelien 2013-09-03T08:48:00

Wait a minute, I need to execute a binary on my system to download the file? BURN IT WITH FIRE!
I ran from the source because, well, just generally fuck that.

Otherwise really love the game ^_^ especially the narration :P Very polished, very finished, and very "you". I would have liked a bit more fluidity (inertia) on the helicopter movement but then I have a weird inertia fetish. Good job!

10 Second Army by Literal Games 2013-09-10T12:12:00

Did you make the wind with you mouth ? Lol ^_^

This is really my sort of game :) indeed, we made a very similar game ourselves. I really like seeing little men running around fighting each-other. Warcraft 1 has left me a ruined man.

Anyway I did manage to break it: got my wizard killed just as my ladder-man was dropping his ladder. The result was that I didn't lose the level!

It seems to not be completely deterministic: I get the feeling that with the same placement I don't always have the same result.

Drone Ring by mychairhasalooin 2013-09-10T12:22:00

Solid game yes, and the starting song is a funny surprise :)

The game works well, with lots of nifty explosions, but it's also very difficult: seems like you need to die and upgrade to proceed. Well I suppose that's kind of the idea ;)

I'm hesitant to complain about the interface (ours is worse) but I did find the font very small and hard to read and the feedback on selections not to be sufficient.

Time Factory Escape by sxaktosxafo 2013-09-10T12:32:00

Hmmm... the image doesn't like inside the Java canvas on Firefox :S Work on Chromium though. Not a great fan of Java for web games - have you tried LibGDX? That can compile to HTML 5.

The static background is a bit of an eye-sore, otherwise the game looks good, with it's own distinct visual style. The "time advancing on death mechanic" is also very interesting, I don't believe any other game has done that- at least none that I have played. Hence this is one of the better uses of the theme I've seen ^^

Good job!

Charge by TeamInCharge 2013-09-10T11:50:00

Hmm... the windows is much large than my screen resolution, so I can't so the whole thing :S Also runs very slowly on my computer - Dell Vostro 1510 with 8400M graphics card, Arch Linux 64 bit.

Not currently playable for me I'm afraid :'(

Gimme 10 secs, I gotta kill this horde by Gear 2013-09-10T12:16:00

Very "Super Crate Box" this ^_^ not terribly innovative but it's a lot of fun to play, and the weapon changes every 10 seconds keep it fresh and keep you thinking on your feet. Good job fellas :)

Low Battery by RHY3756547 2013-09-10T12:25:00

Arrrrgh! Whaaaat! Skeletons! Explosions! I am too slow for this game!

You are insane :)

Great little game though I think you may have gone just a little bit overboard the the particles ^^

Also: you are insane ;)

Programming Failure by Niavlys 2013-09-03T08:36:00

A couple of collision bugs but it's not so bad: at least you don't get stuck in the wall/floor. Platformers are tricky buggers to get working properly - this will be a good platform (tee hee) for your future attempts.

Programming Failure by Niavlys 2013-09-03T08:39:00

The .love file link is broken, but Mac/Linux users can run love ProgrammingFailure.exe and it should work fine ;)

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Undermine by TheSheep 2014-05-19T22:00:00

Dig Duck right? Good job, I really like the music and the kind of "sticker book" art style: the Ludum Dare has a very typical pixel-art-y style which I love but which we see a bit too much of sometimes ;) This also proves that adding a little bouncy animation to things makes it awesome by default, I need to do more bouncy things on my games :)

Kraken Pool Party by wilbefast 2014-04-29T00:42:00

It comes with practice ;) could have done with a bit more iteration time to get the feel just right, but that's the LD right?

Wormhunter by Thorig 2014-05-19T20:39:00

My favourite game so far this LD: the mood and feel is just great, you really few threatened :D The art is also just fabulous. Great job guys, really great ^^

Fight The Infection by Thepattybeast 2014-05-19T20:45:00

Reminds me a lot of 'Zombie 4' http://www.hardcorepawn.com/zombie4/ though here the enemies and NPC don't react to eachother, which is a bit of a shame. It makes it hard to choose strategically who to 'save'.

The concept is interesting but the early game is really clunky to control, the 'toy' isn't much fun to manipulate until you've upgraded it a bit, which is a problem as a lot of people might not stick around long enough to find that out.

Fight The Infection by Thepattybeast 2014-05-19T20:47:00

Oops, I posted before finishing writing :S

Good job anyway, this game is a game which is game-y, I hope you'll stick around and keep making games ;)

Under Earth by illugion 2014-05-19T22:31:00

Nice graphics :D a pity the game is so short, I was really getting into it. I like how you need to learn how to fight the enemies, rather like in Spyro: you have only 2-3 attacks but each enemies requires a different approach.

Kalahari Babysitter by TijmenTio 2014-05-19T21:45:00

Wow, this is great :D Very original gameplay, this is the first game I'm giving a high innovation score to so far ^^ I couldn't quite figure out when to press space to get a perfect, seemed a bit random. Oh, and the game is so juicy it hurts my face :P Well done!

Blackwald Forest by RevelBase 2014-05-19T22:10:00

Hehe this is like reverse-lemmings :P might need a little more gameplay polish (too much latency between clicking on a trap and the trap being activated IMHO), but certainly from a graphical and audio point of view the game is just beautiful ^^ I really love the trailer too, you guys are insane ;)

They Lurk Beneath by Nega Drive 2014-05-19T21:34:00

This should be a Samuel L. Jackson movie called "Alien motherf*ckers stole my motherf*cking ship again!" :P It's fun how the ship floats back to the surface and is completely fine too :)

Nice arcade game, it works really well!
I find using a mouse for boolean input (ie. firing in a fixed direction) is a travesty that should no go unpunished though ;)

The Sadness of Rocky Barbato by PaperBlurt 2014-05-19T21:28:00

Not sure categories like "fun" really apply to this game, but that you for this... "experience"? Something strangely profound a melancholic, but also very funny on occasion. I'm not sure I have the emotional intelligence to did that far into it, but it gave me a moments pause and quite contemplation about life the universe and everything, even if I'm not sure I understood exactly why it did. Good job sir :)

neon subsurface by JALgames 2014-05-19T21:56:00

Nice little one-button game, you should totally put this on mobile :D Some sound would be nice though. It took me a while to figure out that I had to stay below the line too (I don't read indications, soz lol). Good job :)

Gold Diver by RocketDuke 2014-05-19T21:40:00

Nice one :) Hmm... You know what would make for an interesting choice maybe? Cutting weeds could consume air. As it is it takes no time or other resources to cut the weeds (as far as I can tell) so you might as well cut them all whenever you see them.

Ghostlord Depths by HelixFox 2014-05-19T22:37:00

Goddam boss ganked me with his red aura thingy :'(

Love the music, very melancholic. The art is great too :) The gameplay is a tad repetitive though, and I've got some resolution issues on my laptop (can't fit the whole game in frame).

Must Thrive by ErikU 2014-05-19T22:28:00

Nice! I especially like the sonar, it's a really cool effect :) I'm surprised you polished so much considering you say the game is unfinished. I'd like to see more frankly, it's really nice - reminds me of Fl0w though not so much that it doesn't have it's own novelty. The only trouble is when you reach a certain size it become really hard to eat as your eat range doesn't expand with you :S

DrillfisT by Ret44 2014-05-19T20:13:00

As my layout is AZERTY I'm going to have to complain that you can't rebind the Q/E keys from weapon changing. Otherwise runs great on my Arch Linux with no configuration required (praise be to Unity :P )

My Linux is playing up though so I tried on a Windows machine too both the build and the webplayer. On both it was very slow and I could move through walls. So essentially I wasn't able to play this :'(

Music is great and I love this kind of roguelike type game :)

DrillfisT by Ret44 2014-05-19T22:22:00

Got it working :) Yeah my laptop has stupid power-saving settings that keeping coming on all the time. Drill is very fickle, doesn't seem to work all the time, I can't quite figure out when/why. Love the music and the general "ambiance" of the game, I feel a couple more hours would have made a huge different but that's the Ludum Dare for you. Even so good job guys, despite the drill I managed the grab myself a bunch of look, kill a bunch of monster dudes and escape :P

In the Lair of a Basilisk by Korwegian 2014-05-19T22:13:00

Very creepy monster! It's funny how low-fi can freak you out more easily than HD quite often. It's a pity there's only one level, I solved in pretty quickly. I'm not a huge fan of the control scheme, I'm use to Doom's ALT+direction to strafe myself. That's just a question of taste though. Good job!

They Rise by BearishMushroom 2014-05-19T19:52:00

Aw, I lost and the game told me I let everyone down :'(

The upgrades really add something to the game which is pretty simplistic otherwise: made me want to keep trying different "specs" and plan ahead. The music loop could have been a bit longer but so many games have no music at all so it is much appreciated ;)

The game works fine on my Arch Linux via Wine but running the Linux script I get the following:

GreenWar by JNT 2014-05-19T19:45:00

Argh, I f*cking HATE whales! Everything hates you in the game, lol :P Good job :) nice little game with music, sound, even particles. It runs fin on my Arch Linux.

Note on installation: the game depends specifically on libSDL_gfx.so.13, so if you have a newer version it won't work out of the box. You can work around this issue by creating a fake libSDL_gfx.so.13 which links to the newer version.

Whack-a-Meme by Mallot1 2014-05-19T22:16:00

This is basically the LSD bad-trip of someone who spends too much time on 9GAG :P

Darkvision by vexille 2014-05-19T21:03:00

Somebody's played a lot of Abe's Oddysse I see :P Me too, so I made it through first try ^^ For some reason the 'W' button doesn't charge altars so you can't really use the WASD side of the keyboard which is a shame. The hanging/climbing is also somewhat buggy. Other than that I really love this game! The levels are interesting and have a decent difficult curve, and the universe makes me want a longer game where I can explore who this character is and what they're doing praying to altars and exploring caverns.

Great job!

Geology Rocks by theengineers 2014-05-19T20:23:00

Rating this as a jam game so I'm playing the post-compo (72 hour) version. First play-through got stuck under one of my own blocks almost immediately, made bad :P Second playthrough got stuck inside one of my own blocks. Third playthrough I made it through a few levels and then got two of my blocks stuck together. Man I suck at this so much!

The name is clever, the gameplay is too, just a few glitches that make it a little frustrating :S Nice artwork too, and good that there is sound in the game though it does get a little repetitive.

Basement by Halfbus 2014-05-19T21:10:00

Great stuff, I love the intro cinematic though on the second play-through I wished I could skip it to get back into the game. Through are somewhat overwhelming to begin with, it took me a while to understand that I was running a meth lab, I thought I was working on a cure for cancer :P Even then the game has a lot of complexity that needs to be introduced that slowly. That's all pretty obvious though and I'm sure you'd have done so if you'd had a little more time.

I'm surprised more games don't let you run your own little meth lab actually, it's great fun ;) Good job guys!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Talking Heads by ponk 2014-12-10T09:10:00

Hehehe :)

I love the way the game introduces itself in the words that the people are saying.
Seemed to be pretty straightforward to begin with, but really made me think to find a solution :) Very stylish (yay, tweens) AND fun to play. Great job!

One Last Stand by Nokifict 2014-12-13T17:10:00

Your "web" link point to a downloadable version (?)

Twilight of Humanity by wilbefast 2014-12-08T00:16:00

The compo ends in 1 hour and 45 minutes, the build will be up before the end ;)

Twilight of Humanity by wilbefast 2014-12-08T20:37:00

I should probably add a disclaimer: being lost an confused is an integral part of this game. It's a game about trying to figure out how to survive. So if you're confused that's pretty normal ;)

Germanunkol: I've uploaded a .love to itch.io. Often I don't bother as you can just run the .exe file with LOVE if, like me, you're on Linux ;)

Twilight of Humanity by wilbefast 2014-12-09T18:27:00

Well you know, it's an LD project: the game was designed as a vertical slice with about 10 minutes worth of content - we all have a lot of games to play ;)
There's likely to be a post-compo version with a bit more progression and perhaps 30 minutes of content.

Ok, so some spoilers for people who are really lost:
* people turn blue if they are cold, use torches and bonfires to warm them up.
* people get hungry: you can feed the whole tribe by hunting the rabbits that come out at night.
* bonefires need to be fed regularly.
* monsters can be chased away using flaming torches.
* trees can be ignited to create more bonfires.
* don't burn all the trees or you'll have no wood left!

Twilight of Humanity by wilbefast 2014-12-15T18:22:00

Löve ftw =D

One things I'd changed about the controls: have the most recently dragged guy throw his stick rather than the nearest guy. Sometimes it's fiddly to get the guy you want to throw his stick somewhere :S

Final Swap by blackmagic 2014-12-13T11:36:00

Just beautiful *_* great art, great music, and a really neat gameplay concept. My only really qualm is that the progression is rather slow: there's a lot of waiting for things to happen involved. Things do gradually get more hectic, but you're not really juggling things around until 10-15 minutes in.

That being said I didn't fully understand how the symbols around the outside related to the correspondingly coloured spells... well I sort of understand, but it wasn't 100% clear to me. Now I'm just nick-picking though :P

BUMP! by Toki Anholmes 2014-12-13T11:47:00

Mario meets Super Crate Box ^^

Great little game, nice visuals :) Wasn't able to test sound, it's mute via Wine. I'll have to test it again on Windows later.

You make what to spawn the "double jump, etc" indications at the position of the player rather than the centre of the screen: Kevin had to point them out to me, I was too focused on my character.

BUMP! by Toki Anholmes 2014-12-15T18:19:00

Hehehehehe ^^ Yeah the music fits perfectly :P

I noticed that if I messed up my initial combo I might as well just kill myself. Have an additional multiplier tied to the survival time (ie. the difficulty) might make things a bit more balanced in this regard. Just a thought ;)

Game of the Probability Goose by Alexandre Szybiak 2014-12-09T18:44:00

Wow, what a great little game :D

This is a really interesting, innovative concept. I wish more kids board-games had a notion of playing odds rather than just "you won because of luck": we'd have smarter children :P

It's a bit there's no sound/music but in any case great work. It's by far my favourite game so far (but I've only played 3 lol).

Game of the Probability Goose by Alexandre Szybiak 2014-12-10T08:50:00

Oh by the way, is this flashy 'where you may land' marker a bug or a feature? IMHO variably transparency (for different probabilities) would be better than flashing.

This Is How It Comes About by DesignerNap 2014-12-09T19:31:00

Whoa, this is a very difficult game to get your head around *_*

I had to systematically keep coming back for spoilers I'm sorry to admit.

The SFXR thud is a bit grating compared to the rest of the soundscape. Music and artwork are beautiful otherwise and the mood is really nice. Good job :)

The Screen Pass by Tater_hater 2014-12-09T18:33:00

Interesting use of the theme - I wouldn't have thought that an infinite runner would be possible ;)

There's a bit of a lack of variety though: once you've dodged a few defenders you've kind of seen the whole game :S

An Adventure on My Screen by Erhune 2014-12-16T18:55:00

Hehehehehe =D

Well there has been 'Twitch Plays' so not a brand-new idea. It does fit perfectly with the theme though, I'm surprised nobody else thought of doing something like this! At least not amongst those whose games I played. Good job, very clever :)

Spiral Wings by Joe Williamson 2014-12-14T13:24:00

Very beautiful art and sound, and a setting that actually really thinks about the theme :)

Not much in the way of gameplay but short and sweet is good for an LD. It's a wonderful toy to play around with, and so beautiful to look at and listen to *_*

Good job!

The Corsair Bay by Ekilibr 2014-12-15T18:16:00

Nice little game :)

I reccomend binding 'jump' to a bunch of buttons (enter, shift, space, etc) so dumb people like me don't struggle to find it :P

Limberjacks by sandbaydev 2014-12-15T08:50:00

Awesome graphics :) And wow, a multiplayer browser game? In a jam? Bravo!

Making all the sounds with your mouth is pretty hardcore, I really noticed though. It did sort of work against the creepy mood...

Run Bzzt, Run ! by Agram 2014-12-09T19:15:00

Unplayable slow on Chrome I'm afraid :/ But it looks and sounds great, I'll try again on Firefox when I get home :)

Law Breaker by deepnight 2014-12-13T16:43:00

I didn't know about the GOURANGA thing ^^

I found the tank and things became considerably more straightforward :P

Hard to think of constructive criticism with something this good. I guess being on foot is globally not much use since everything you can do on foot you can do in your car, only faster. But there I'm just trying to find things to complain about ;)

The Robot Gardener of Donut Planet by racebennon 2014-12-09T19:43:00

Interesting use of spinning world in order to keep to the theme :)

There's a serious feedback issue though: I needed to write down the different interactions on a piece of paper to play, as they all look like same thing (green orb) or am I playing it wrong? I think just having a different colour for each would really help. Also had really trouble hitting the weeds :/

I think this is an interesting concept though, it'd be worth taking it up and ironing out some of the kinks.

EXPERIMENT#532 by Pete_H 2014-12-09T19:07:00

Lol - yeah I ended up just going for the 'use everything on everything' approach and it worked :P Managed on my second try. Nice little adventure game though the solution wasn't really intuitive enough to figure out by thinking it through. The character bios might have provided some insight (weak stomach, tall, etc) but can you get at them in the game? I didn't see.

Maybe if the guy on the phone didn't tell you exactly what to do, and only explained that you needed to get the knife from the top of the shelf and make a fire at a certain time? Then you could figure out the rest yourself. It'd be more interesting than just following orders.

SCRAMBLE SLUG by rockford 2014-12-13T11:10:00

Yay, Löve!

Took me a while to figure out you pick up fuel by dropping bombs on it ^^ Also that my missiles would lap around the screen. Really interesting to change character: I didn't think a shooter could work with the theme.

Really like the game - it was difficult but fair, so I wanted to keep trying. It's "take off" by the way ;)

i by VLTRAUIOLET 2014-12-13T11:17:00

This looks amazing!

But there's no Linux build and it crashes on Wine :'(

Can you provide source and/or a build for me? Pleeeeease :D

Let me know on Twitter -> @wilbefast

Smash TZ by cinderous 2014-12-10T08:42:00

Nice first jam :) My first jam game didn't run ;)

Chin Chan Chow! by Fuchter 2014-12-09T19:38:00

Looks really good - big Kendo fan here :)

But can I please have a portable version? It's a pain in the asp to have to install/uninstall 100 LD games :/

7 Days of War by error031 2014-12-09T20:20:00

Nice work :)

One issue I have: if the left-most piece of ground gets destroyed there's no way of jumping across to repair the others, so you're pretty screwed. I think that's kind of the idea though.

Very grim, yet it works well as a game. 'Limbo' meets 'This War Of Mine' - bravo :)

Tight Angle by lase 2014-12-16T18:58:00

Very interesting control mechanic - real brain-f*ck to start out with. Think it'd be worth developing further :)

You Are Lost by farwyler 2014-12-16T18:52:00

Wow! Very grim :)

I'm getting a huge ghosting issue which means that I don't always run when I'd like, especially in the diagonals :/ Otherwise it's a really neat game!

Not really objective though: mine is somewhat it the same mood only less beautiful pixel-art and more rectangles ;)

ROCKROCKET by Backterria 2014-12-10T08:59:00

Took me a while to find my avatar ^^"

Nice sound/music and artwork. The game itself is pretty classic, but the level design is interesting: because you have total information (whole game on one screen) there's some degree of pre-planning to your movements. Another good use of theme :)

Level One Turret by geartech0 2014-12-09T18:36:00

Lol - nice sound effects ;)

I couldn't make it past level 2 though :'( couldn't get the rebound right and ended up hitting myself all the time. Am I doing something wrong? Please let me know what the trick if (@wilbefast on twitter).

Flashlight by Team Flashlight 2014-12-09T19:12:00

My score: 103700 :)

Very competently made: good use of theme, nice art, nice sound, and the combo mechanic really makes you think about placement. The only thing that bothered me was the controls, since unlike most mouse-based arena shooters the camera doesn't follow you. So in certain circumstances it's 'easier' to aim up than down for instance. Not sure how this could be solved without a better control over the cursor than the web player can provide. Also: I recommend hiding the cursor for more awesome :)

Viral 0 by DevFrank 2014-12-09T19:34:00

Could I put in a plea for a portable (non-install) version? Call me a neat-freak but I don't like to clutter up my registry with LD games :S

Also I'd really recommend not calling the executable 'Ludum_dare_31.exe' because it becomes indistinguishable from all the others! Call it something like 'DevFrank_Virus0.exe' or something so people can find their way back to your page after playing it ;)

LiliLight by Carduus 2014-12-13T17:05:00

The music is extremely creepy o_O

It's a shame you guys didn't manage to put in everything you wanted (changing floors, etc) - we all have to cut corners ;)
It's still a very playable game though, good fun and, as I said, very creepy.

I found the AI rather unpredictable, sometimes running away and sometimes charging at me, but I suppose that serves the mood of the game - it makes them all the more dangerous and frightening ;)

GhostRing by Robotic 2014-12-15T18:07:00

Hehe :)

Great stuff! Kudos on the one-button game + "keyboard twister cluster f**k" :P I also really like the day-night cycle, good way of adding some visual and audio variety to a single-screen game.

The Rose Processor by Simon 2014-12-09T19:19:00

Your extra constraints are and interesting addition, and they're well-used. I couldn't manage to get my head around the game though, my foundations keep falling apart as quickly as I can build them :S

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Chlorine Dawn by wilbefast 2015-04-20T09:47:00

Thanks :)
Yeah, I struggled a bit with OpenFL so didn't have time for tutorials and such.
I think it fits the theme perfectly though: it's a play on the world "conventional" - as in the Geneva Convention!

Fathom by Joe Williamson 2015-05-03T10:44:00

Beautiful art and music and nice little mechanic :D

Oh, I noticed when I "restored a backup" that turrets stayed dead.

Hug Arena by Benjamin 2015-04-28T22:12:00

Oh wow, I love this game so much ^_^ It's just perfect :) looking over your shoulder I thought it'd be a pretty classic arena shooter, but there's a lot of strategy and timing to it. Really nice!

Weapon Regulator by drludos 2015-04-28T21:34:00

Interesting "mechanics as metaphor" as new weapons are banned and "old faithful" ones are allowed - I feel also that a player character without a weapon when the theme is weapon-based deserves extra points :) I got 286 on my first try (QFT https://twitter.com/wilbefast/status/593165866163908608).

Cortex Control by Smokeylope 2015-05-03T10:57:00

Interesting concept. The game may be a bit too hard I think :S You might want to introduced a slight delay or inaccuracy on the enemy shots, or slow down their bullets: computers can fair at a speed and precision which seems unfair.

The Rock the Paper and the Scissors by BIZM 2015-05-03T10:53:00

First 5/5 this LD :) Love the bandit names and the absurdity of playing "gangsta" RPS on top of a moving train :P

ScarKrow by Carduus 2015-05-03T10:54:00

Hmm... I don't know why but it's super slow on Arch Linux 64 bit Chromium - like unplayably slow :'(

I'll try again at work on a different machine.

Ani-melee by RHY3756547 2015-04-28T22:06:00

Wow, a multiplayer game in 48 hours - that's some serious Dragon Kill Points my friend ^^

Great job! Wish I had some people to play with but the bots are good :) AI too, wow. If only there was a 1337 hax00r category!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Double Kick Heroes by blackmagic 2015-12-19T14:21:00

Gorgeous game, super well-polished :)

The only criticism I can find to make really is that it's quite hard to enjoy the beautiful art while looking at the bottom bar in order to time your shots. I had some trouble switching between the two views to fire the right gun at the right time. But then I'm not a musician, so maybe that's just me having no sense of rhythm :P

Great job anyway, congratulations!

Hybris by Benjamin 2015-12-19T16:59:00

Managed a run through of everything except the muscles - damn those homing missiles! Great little game, the use of theme is excellent although the "growing boss" thing means a huge amount of positive feedback: if you start doing badly you're going to continue, and if you get things under control you're fine. Still I really enjoyed the game, and I'd love to see a full-length shoot'em'up using some of these kinds of organic growth mechanics for the enemies and obstacles.

Full Metal Democracy by deepnight 2015-12-19T16:50:00

Great stuff as always DeepKnight :D

I do always like this kind of indirect control and strategic play. All it needs now are a few enemies and mechs to spice things up :) It's a shame the other game slowed you down, though I feel better about my own work now I see even you have your limits ;P

Only complaint I can think of (for good form): my screen resolution is quite low though so I had a bit of trouble fitting everything is.

Concrete Jungle by Miltage 2015-12-19T14:13:00

Outstanding work, and there nicely on theme. I never imagined it could be such much fun to be a plant :P

Stitch Wars by wilbefast 2015-12-21T06:17:00

Enemies always act last actually, but each turn is resolved in phases are the "attack" and "charge" phases (the action types the AI tends to use) are resolved before movements and retreats.

Mystic Temple by Tipyx 2015-12-19T16:10:00

Great job :) Very well-polished and complete. The colour-contrast especially really helps pick things out of the background.

A Life in a Year by anissen 2015-12-19T14:02:00

Always nice to see Luxe games :) It's a lot of fun, strangely meditative.

The sound and music are great, brilliant job!

I think there a few little things that could really improve polish, like removing the scroll bar on the side or hiding the cursor. There's one bug that can kind of break the game: I got poison at the beginning of winter before I could see what was going on and then couldn't move at all any more. Up until then I was really enjoying the game joy :)

Growing Dragon by Erfeo 2015-12-19T13:55:00

I got pushed off the screen :'(

Simple but fun to play - all it needs now is a little polish I think, and maybe a lose condition while you fall off the map.

Good job :)

[JJJ] - Jolly Jail Jumper by AwesomeAlliterationAlliance 2015-12-19T15:50:00

Oh wow, nice job! Very pretty, polished and well balanced, with a nicely-tuned difficulty curve. Particular kudos for the tutorial: it does just about everything right in my opinion :)

2Door by Polith Games 2015-12-19T13:52:00

Excellent polish :) Feels very finished. I managed to win but then I got a very simple A,B,A,B,A pattern on my second try: might need some restriction on the "level generation" so to speak. Otherwise it's a lovely little game, my compliments :)

PS - I love footstep sounds ^^

Flowering Souls by Lullaby 2015-12-19T13:42:00

Very interesting concept with great sound and music :) I do like this kind of indirect control. The random generation does create situations where it can be difficult to react though, so if this were to become a "full game" I think it might be worth bounding creature spawn and paths to have a bit more control over the difficulty.

A bit slow to restart - possibly a bit laggy on my computer (?) I'm not sure, frame-rate seemed a bit unstable.

GURU by TomenLuca 2015-12-19T16:33:00

Great stuff ^^ I really like strategy games and don't see enough in LD. Good and quite funny too. Doesn't really relate to the theme but, well, themes are just to give inspiration anyway - if you're already inspired I say go with it.

Constructive criticism: there is maybe not enough feedback for "not enough karma to use card" so I had trouble at the beginning figuring out how to play (didn't have enough karma to play any cards). Also as you had is central and your character is left it is not immediately apparent whose hand in whose.

Synergy Shakedown by danbolt 2015-12-19T13:49:00

Nice one ^^" very funny and slightly painful how true it rings. The tapping to change direction was a bit confusing, I tended to just always go the same direction where possible. Still with two buttons there's only so much you can do (yeah, good use of theme too).

Well done :)

Another Dragon by GeorgeBroussard 2015-12-19T17:43:00

I slew the Dragon, yay ^^ Only died like a million times :P

Nice homage :) The graphical effect is nice too. I really think the rocks need to follow some sort of pattern though. Another World was super hard but you could learn it by rote eventually. I felt in the cave sections that I made it through mainly because I just got lucky with the random number generator. I did play it till the end though :)
