Disregard All Humans by Fireblend 2012-04-29T18:35:00
One of the best LD23 games that I've tried so far :) I didn't notice immediately that the world was shrinking, and I loved it. It's very fun, innovative, and it has a good replay value. Bravo!

By the way, Linux 64bit and it worked flawlessly.
Really hard to play, it was difficult for me to get into the game. Beautiful graphics and music, but not enough fun.
I love the concept, and hope you will continue this! :)
As already said, very difficult game, but also fun.
Challenging game. I liked it a lot. :)
As already said, gorgeous graphics, nice idea, but limited gameplay. I'd love to see this updated.
@mikelovesrobots3: You can find stuff as well! (shiny coins, all around the tiny world)
Other than that, I completely agree with your comment. Gaeel, your game is beautiful.
Good idea, simple and cool gameplay (except the character is very slow, that quickly becomes annoying imo). Too bad there is no sound at all. Other than that, I wasn't able to collect all the pieces (I must have missed the drink that would give me flying ability...?), but I'm not supposed to take into account my failing at the game, am I? :)
On my HTC Wildfire, I had trouble drawing walls. Otherwise, good idea and nice use of the touch screen and accelerometer.
I loved the concept, the music and the interaction with the people. :)
Wow, at first I was skeptic, then I loved the mood, idea(s) and audio. Still, I think it's weird how the music stops quickly in the beginning ; and I didn't like very much the three doors again and again where you have no way to guess which door is the right one. The gameplay was perfectible (annoying controls...) but overall the gaming experience was great. :)
I like how I felt I had some control on the dialogue (although I have none, right?), it's very well done, I think. But I'm stuck at “a transhuman”… is it meant to be this way?
Sorry, actually the player *has* control over the text, nice!
Very nice graphics and effects! However, it would be great if you allowed the arrow keys for move, as there are people like me who are not using a qwerty keyboard :)
Nice graphic style and nice idea. I found the controls a little bit rigid. I loved the idea of the boss's weak spot :)
I'm impressed! This is very fun and addictive! Good music and sounds, cool villain face too :) Played on Android (Samsung Galaxy S2), sometimes I had trouble catching the moustache, it could be improved there, but this is great already!
Good idea, good models, I like it. It took some time before I understood the images displayed when clicking the arrows. I should have the read the description text with more attention (at first I didn't realize it was in a lighthouse).
The only problem is it's very annoying when you picked the gun first, and can't drop it to take the screwdriver. I even had to cache reload in order for the game to start over from the beginning.
Other than that, good job!
Too much crashes to be able to fully enjoy the game, but is seems nice. I like the movement (I played the Android version), maybe a bit too fast though? Other than that, I can't really tell, as I wasn't able to play for more than a few seconds.
Very fun game indeed! The background is great. It's challenging enough to keep me playing it :) (not sure this is correct english, sorry) It's a shame there is no sound, and animations would have been nice too.
At first I sometimes didn't understand why I would lose, but I hadn't read entirely the Readme.txt or the presentation text :)
Well done!
Tu dois pouvoir faire un .jar facilement depuis Eclipse non ?
The game runs flawlessly for me on Windows 7.
I get this under my Arch Linux:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: gd/xi/framework/main/GameStandalone : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0
[...]
Could not find the main class: gd.xi.framework.main.GameStandalone. Program will exit.
Une idée ?
It's impressive for a first 3D game! Too bad you didn't have time to fully implement the screaming mechanism :)
Well, it's unfinished, but the concept is really interesting, I like it. :)
Great idea! Not so hard to beat. I wonder if there's a real strategy of if it's just about placing a mine down the cursor before it clicks. Well done!
(Ok, that's why I shouldn't write comments in french...)
Nice idea! It lacks some sound though. It's pretty fun to play but it seems hard to elaborate a strategy there (aside from the random one)
See you on #ludumdare-fr next time! :)
Graphics are good! The idea is nice too, and your game is very well done. In my opinion there is just a little problem with the gameplay: I would like to be able to shoot down to the ground when I'm at a high level, currently it seems I'm forced to lower my head to the ground if I want to shoot pedestrians.
Definitely needs more dynamic gameplay!
Fun mechanic! I didn't figure out the scene at the first vision but I guess it's because of the drink :) It misses audio and a more coherent/logical background, but the idea is very nice.
Other than that, happy new year!
Wow, instant 5 stars in Humor, I loved it! As I already said, the graphics are great, I wish I could do that. You're a true pixel-artist! :) Excellent view on the theme, nice audio too.
That was cool indeed! I loved the gathering effect. I'm looking forward to the post-compo version :)
Haha I love your description text! Very nice movement indeed (inertia!), I like it. Still weird to see the images of your character changing when you're walking. ^^
Too bad you didn't have time to finish the audio. Is that normal that I don't hear any "FUUUUUUUUUUU-" at the end ? The MP3 is here and working and yet it isn't played ingame.
(By the way, no issues with the downloaded file for me, and I'm using Avira Antivir)
Oh, and to make your game qwerty-compatible, you should simply add W and A to the controls (no need to detect keyboard layout or anything)
It's hard to understand how to play, I thought I was winning but when Sanity went down to 0 it made me lose. (Wasn't I supposed to make the player lose its sanity?) Other than that, it's a good idea! I've had some fun while chasing the player, too bad the mechanisms weren't clear enough.
Good graphics and audio, and the game is nice, well done! Maybe it's too easy, there is no real challenge. Still fun :)
I love the humans running when I destroy the buildings, nice touch!
That's very fun and somehow addictive, although not very challenging :) I like it!
The intro and outro are the strong parts of your game, I think. The gameplay is good, but short. It misses something, in the level design and the graphics (no background (but the villain, computers and doors are great!))
Nice audio too :)
Oh, I haven't seen any enemies or enemy bullets, is that normal?
@supermaximo93 Indeed, it's much better now! I updated my rating accordingly :)
Damn, I didn't manage to finish the game without dying once yet... still trying.
Excellent concept, graphics and music! I like your take on the theme. The gameplay may become quickly boring, but the idea and realisation are great!
It was nice to have some French people to talk with us on #ludumdare-fr :)
I'm sorry but I have to say that the controls were really annoying... At first I liked the concept, movement and graphics, but after that I losed my nerves trying to understand the controls, especially the wall climbing mechanic. I skipped the last 2-3 levels because I really couldn't beat them. The music began quite annoying as I kept dying and retrying too :)
In my opinion it's really too bad that the controls aren't enough polished, as I really liked the graphics and mood, I think there's a great potential here!
Nice ending. I think I've had the alternative ending too, but I don't know how, and I didn't understand everything; but this is my fault, as I don't speak english fluently :)
I'm using Firefox 18 (beta). Yes I tend to have lots of tabs open during the judging period... It seems it's not just your game, as another HTML5 game made my browser crash as well (mine didn't, though).
Anyway I tried it with Chrome. I really like the concept and movement, although it could be more bouncy or elastic, i.e. I didn't like when I would appear half-stuck in a wall. Good job!
Beautiful game, well done! Even though there is not much to do, the mood is excellent, I was touched by the story. The music is great, but I think the mood could be even more great with some sound(s) aside the music.
I love the idea, but the controls were too strange and the difficulty a bit too hard for me to play it for long enough. I did manage to learn a spell, but it seemed useless to me, as it consumes blood and doesn't even allows to gather more blood, because I can't draw blood from a dead human). I think it needs some tweaking There's a nice mood there, all it needs is audio and better graphics (for the humans -- I liked the landscape).
Good idea (I've had the same though ;) but I decided to do something else instead), and very well done! The AI is too perfect in my opinion (maybe it should have a certain probability of failing any shot). Right now I don't see any strategy or technique apart from mashing the 1-6 keys and moving the mouse randomly :)
Great graphics, music and text and ideas! I think it misses sounds from the environment though. I have been also slightly annoyed at times by the frequent need to click on Use/Talk to/Pick up/... then the object in the environment. I think there is room for improvement here, in order for the game to be more pleasant to play.
I have to admit I didn't expected this to be really entertaining. The graphics are simple but the procedural generation (I suppose) of the people and targets works great! I love the fact that people are running around when there's a shot. There are great ideas in this game. Even though there doesn't seem to be a great mood here, I felt somehow dirty while playing this, as is I were a real villain.
It turned out to be challenging and fun, I liked it! I had to use the pinky in order to click the right place (I'm playing on Android), though, but I'll try again with a stylus :)
(not sure stylus is the correct word, but I hope you see what I mean
)
Great audio and graphics too!
Sorry for the triple comment.
@Agamgad : Thanks, I'm happy I started over with this idea, I was totally disliking the previous one.
@Pierrec : Thanks! The mechanics are conceptually very simple, but very hard to master, it seems! :)
@nitramgc : Glad you liked the audio and gameplay. I hope I won't get too many bad ratings in Audio because it can't be heard in Firefox (or other browsers)...
Thanks for your playing tips!
@Muu? (lanoiadimuu) : The mechanics were pretty simple to program. In fact, it's the first thing I came up with, I wanted to change it and actually couldn't make anything better, so it became the difficulty of the game: mastering the controls. The nervosity of the ball movement can also add to its "vilainous" aspect.
@mrspeaker : It's meant to be incontrollable! If it were too easy you would get to level 20 without any effort and your computer would crash.
Great idea, and it fits the theme perfectly! Map generation is great, but I wonder if it would be feasible to make it join on the sides, not to have this vertical separation (not sure if I'm saying it correctly ^^)
I'm having trouble to beat it though, but I'll keep trying. :)
This is hard! The violet ones especially. I have to try this with a real second player (not with the joystick on my lap). The keyboard+mouse controls seems less easy to use, I'm not sure why. The graphics are good enough, and I really like the music. Nice idea and nice execution.
It seems a lot of good work was put in the game, especially in the graphics and visual effects, and in the sounds and music. It was way too hard for me though ^^ Still, very good work.
It's hard to determine whether a tile is blocked or not, but I guess that's part of the difficulty of the game! Very nice graphic style and audio effects.
Too bad you didn't use HTML/JS for this game, I'd love to be able to play it on my Android devices. :)
Thanks Mental Atrophy, I hadn't seen the entire animation, it makes a lot of sense now! It's too bad that the game is so short, I would have liked to keep playing. One addition that would have been great would be to randomly generate new passwords and codes at each playthrough, in order to add some replay value to the game.
Very nice graphics. I liked the audio too ^^ But the game seems insanely hard to me... Also most of the time I wasn't able to click to place units in many places. Bug? Feature? I would've liked more explanations ingame too, and something to show me the range of the units. Couldn't beat the first level. Nice execution anyway!
The graphics are great, really! But during the mini-game with the smashed potato, I'm too much focused on the key sequence in the top left corner and I don't even notice the animation below ^^
And yes, preloading the images is one of the few annoying things that we have to deal with in HTML. =/
Interesting idea. Nice work on the Escape levels. I didn't like the controls in the Defense mode, I probably expected the up and down arrow keys to move the shield from top to bottom. I had also trouble to identify my character in Escape mode, I often moved looking at the wrong one.
It seems nice, but the only things I managed to do was "help", "inventory" and "read book". I guess I'm not used enough to text adventure games...
The backgrounds are beautiful, the rest of the visual elements could have been really great with more time. Hard game but really engaging, nice effects with the pillars falling. Good music, not too repetitive (yet?).
Some problems with falling off ledges too early (imo), and with the camera view.
At some point I got stuck because I lost focus on the game: my up and down arrow keys just made the page scroll =/ I guess I'll try the Windows version.
Oh, and some more levels would have been great. The UI could be greatly improved as well, I think.
Keep in mind that those are only the little flaws that I notice here and there :)
How I am supposed to beat the DDR-like part? I can't figure out this one ^^ But I love the game!
Haha, I laughed so hard sometimes! I would have loved a little more diversity in the sound and the crashing (like, bouncing to the left if I'm spinning to the left...) The minimalistic graphics are great. Very good job.
I like the concept, and it's very nicely done. Great graphics, congrats to Chloe. The sound effects fit very well to the game too. Too bad the only times I failed was when there wasn't enough green bacteria to let me win (correct me if I'm wrong). Congrats to Hugo too, that's pretty great for a first game.
I was glad to meet you both, see you soon!
Hahaha, this one is a great idea, it's a good thing that you finally started a new game a few hours before the deadline! Nice graphics as usual, and nice music.
The only problem for me was that in some scenes it was very hard to understand the logic of the game, e.g. the cigarette that you have to move backwards and not upwards once you have put it in the lighter flame.
I loved the interaction with the eyes of the characters in the first scene.
Several good ideas here, nice work. The progression seems very slow, as other people have said.
I love the graphic style, and the music is very nice too. It's a nice idea to introduce more complex physics with the orange boxes, but it's easy to get stuck between a box and a wall =/ The movement was very hard to get used to, in my opinion it could be greatly improved. It's hard to determine precisely my orientation when I'm standing still. All this makes the game extremely hard (for me at least), and I don't feel inclined to continue. =/
But, as I said, I love the visual feeling and audio.
Actually it's much easier to do a speedrun, without caring about the coins. ^^
I encountered some crashes as well.
You should simply accept both Z and W for up, and A and Q for left, this way it would work with Azerty and Qwerty keyboards. :)
How am I supposed to shoot? (I'm using an Xbox controller) Also, is this normal that I just won by being killed several times in a row, without being able to collect a single battery? It seems I earned 10 seconds each time I died O.o
Or maybe I was just lucky and I spawned on a 62 seconds battery...
I finally found the shoot key ! (It's RB)
Here's my comment after playing the game.
Beautiful visuals and great music, good idea. Some things prevented me from fully enjoying the game though:
- the controls, even with a controller: I would rather have the character aim in the direction he is moving, and I'd prefer an other shoot key.
- the enemies respawning super fast and in the same spawn point (maybe other enemies actually)
- dying at the moment I finally found where I just spawned (need some visual notification here, easily noticeable from the entire screen)
Other than that, it's a very nice concept, and very close to be a fully enjoyable game imo!
Laelien, I finally beat it on keyboard! Yay!
Loved the fact that you re-enter the screen with as little time as when you left it, and loved the little trap with the box, too bad that you added arrows to make it easier! :) Nice game!
The movement felt a bit clumsy, but the graphics are nice. Too bad I can't beat the level with the zombies. =/ ^^
It has little replay value but it's a nicely designed map. It took me a few tries to realize that the red "10" were actually -10 seconds... Missed some sound, and a more responsive movement, but otherwise it was nicely done. :)
It works almost good on my Linux desktop, I'll have to try it from the Windows side! It runs quite slowly, and the sound is therefore jerky, but I can imagine what it sounds like.
The game was great when I tried it before you left on Sunday, it became close to perfect with the sound (despite the problems that I encounter here) and the fact that the "fireflies" (?) are collected slightly faster. The graphics are really beautiful. Exactly the kind of game that I love.
Eventually I think the game really fit the theme well.
Congrats!
AAAAARGH! This damn green spiral broken hitbox! It seems you have to be entirely inside it when going from the right, whereas you just need to touch it when you come from the left.
Other than that, it's very nicely done, challenging and frustrating enough, and I loved the humiliation texts (especially the Gaeel one).
Wow, great overall feeling, amazing game, the only problem for me with this and any other mouse-controlled non-fullscreen game is when my mouse goes out of the game and I don't notice it right away. It can be quite annoying sometimes.
The music is incredible too, but sadly it's against the rules to use music from somewhere/somebody else, right? I can't give the audio rating it deserves. =/ The game is no less awesome though :)
I'm not rating right now, because I can't throw the food with 1, 2 and 3. I'm not sure why, maybe it's a problem with my computer, since I use multiple keyboard layouts (but I'm sure I start the game after having switched to qwerty...).
Very nice graphics, music and concept. Became slightly annoying when I was stuck for some time (I turned out I knew what to do, but didn't think it was even possible at this moment of the story: getting to Daisy in time was way much harder than the rest of the game!)
PS: I guess you're aware of it, but just in case, there is no sound at all under Firefox, but I'm not sure you can fix this easily.
Nice game, good level design and concept :)
At first it seemed that it was impossible, then I read the description and found out about the jump mechanic... I finally beat the game :) It was challenging and fun, well done!
It's a good technique for avoiding level design! Nice idea anyway. Graphics too are extremely simple but look good (that's the beauty of minimalism). The only annoying bit was that the movement sometimes wasn't very "friendly" in a way. The square got "stuck" too often near edges (not really stuck, but it stopped moving where you would think it wouldn't).
FYI, you are supposed to include the source code (and to make the entire game yourself, including the music). I'd like to check the source and try to correct the collision problems. I'd love it if you correct this in a post-compo version :)
The collision problem is that the square sometimes stops near a wall, even though it doesn't actually touch any wall, and you have to try the other directions in order to continue moving. It seems it gets worse with a lower framerate.
The thing is, I think, as Latcarf said, that you check if there will be a collision with a wall, and if there is, you do not apply the movement at all, where as you should correct it (place the square against the wall). But I know this might be more difficult to handle that it sounds.
Anyway, I got to level 21. The variety of mechanics used with a single level is great, I need to finish this game! :)
Thanks for the comment. It was awfully glitchy, in my opinion, and I spent most of my time trying to fix this. In the end I realized I wasn't gonna make an actual game, working and interesting, in time, and I focused on the graphics.
Thanks for the comments. At first I started to make it able to scroll horizontally, so that I could use all the space I needed for the levels. I dropped this feature because it caused me too much trouble, and then I couldn't find enough space to make even one single good level. ^^
@Gaeel:
That's weird. A friend of mine can't run it as well (either from the .love or the .exe). There seems to be a problem with his Windows setup since he doesn't seem to be able to run any Löve game correctly (my brother's game crashes after the help screens on his computer). But I guess you are able to run other Löve games on your Windows machine, so the problem must be different. What happens exactly when you try to launch the game?
@Laelien: Thanks for the nice comment. As for the countdown, I just noticed playing your game that it's very similar, BUT I'm pretty sure I had the idea before (or at least I didn't consciously steal the idea from you). :)
@jprogman: It's a weird bug that some people are experiencing, a fix is coming very very soon though.
@spliter: Me trying to fix the first problem resulted in the second :)
@Pierrec: Yes, I once made it in only 3 seconds! As for the error message, when did this happen to you?
@alts: Actually there is a sound effect when you win, but it is quite subtle and quiet. The "climbing glitch" might be part of the gameplay, yes. ^^ Anyway, I need to fix unintentional glitches before I can say they are intentional :)
@Delca: I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who had trouble with this kind of stuff! It turned out to be much more difficult than I thought it would be.
A post-compo version is on the way, with collisions fixed with the valuable help of my brother! (Latcarf)
@wilbefast: Oops, it seems I moved the file out of my Dropbox folder, without realizing the consequences... Fixed now. I didn't know you could run love MyGame.exe, that's neat, thanks!
This work on the camera is perfect. The music and sounds were really great. I loved the concept, realization, and the overall feeling.
Very nice graphics, the game is kind of repetitive but rather well done (day-night cycle is nice!). It was also too easy in the beginning and too hard in the end. It would be better with a more responsive jumping mechanic. Good job though!
Awwww, would love to try this, but:
Error: Cannot compile pixel shader code:

Hmm, I simply deleted "highp" in line 11 of shaders/lighten.fs, and it seems to be working now... I'm able to see, hear and interact with my garden and others' too.
Brilliant work on graphics, Proteus-like audio and network code! There's no goal in your game, but nothing new here ;)
I was about to say that maybe the white noise was a bit too loud sometimes but then I realized it was simplynoise.com still running
Great idea, very innovative, it must have been a nightmare to code! Too bad the playability isn't great.
