Super confusing at first, but I really liked playing around with this! well done

robcozzens 2012-08-27 06:35

Interesting idea. And the graphics were very cool.

What an interesting way to use the theme of evolution. Really fun to fiddle with for a couple seconds, although for some reason I can never get the creatures (or whatever 3 produces) to move anywhere horizontally, or place them where I want to. Definitely confusing, but still.

Graphics are nice, very original little game.

kbdmaster 2012-08-27 17:16

Confusing , You really need controls

Here's a video that shows some of the cool things you can do in Darwinphony:

That video you posted is very helpful, especially in understanding how the little creatures reproduce and evolve. The game itself is definitely one of the most original and innovate things that I've seen in the competition so far.

really liked the visual style. It's a nice music toy.

axcho 2012-08-28 08:36

Once I watched the video, then I had fun with this! Very nice. :)

Very creative !

yosh 2012-09-02 23:32

Generative music gameplay ftw !

wilbefast 2012-09-02 23:36

I like it :) glad you put a video up to explain how everything works though - I'd have been completely lost otherwise!

Nicely done.

While I discovered some real nice musical patterns they were always just a bit off.

I've done something similar to this before, using the physics of dropped balls, and I think the problem is that those curves just don't generate very musical intervals. I wonder how hard it would be to quantize a gravity simulation, or perhaps provide a quantized grid the triggers might be locked to if so desired.

Umm... pretty confusing at first but then it was alright, quite interesting idea!

savethejets1 2012-09-08 17:24

Cool idea!

Great graphics and music !

munchor 2012-09-16 20:32

Quite confusing at first, but when you get it, it's pretty fun!

It takes time to understand that its the weird shapes that evolve and make music, not the turtles. Also, the buttons are kindof glitchy.

It takes time to understand that its the weird shapes that evolve and make music, not the turtles. Also, the buttons are kindof glitchy. But once I got in, I just messed with it for a half hour striahgt.

I really like the innovative concept and it was fun to play with but I found it too hard to isolate the sounds I wanted to make anything very musical. That parrot is really aggressive!
