LD29 — Beneath the Surface

The Valley Rule by Raiyumi 2014-04-29T17:39:00

Wow, very cool game, beautiful graphics and music! Very polished too! It's very light in regards to the actual theme, but it's still very well made.

Just a couple nitpicky things: the "water" thing being white doesn't hint you too well that it's deadly if you fall in it. Also it would be cool to have the game save after you pick a power-up.

A boy and his Hellworm by orangepascal 2014-04-29T23:42:00

Very cool stuff! It would be cool to have a bit more feedback when you get hit. Also in the title screen it says arrow keys + x to play, took me a while to figure out you could jump too!

Kraken Pool Party by wilbefast 2014-04-29T16:58:00

Very cool! I just wish you could move the tentacles faster. Also that it had more stuff coming in for you to destroy (or at least that they were faster), you end up spending a lot of time waiting for stuff to come in reach.

Crazy Diver by rukbotto 2014-04-29T03:00:00

Confusing controls!

Mask by Mnemusyne 2014-05-04T16:12:00

At first I thought all I needed to do was leave the smiley mask on and the game would win itself, but I underestimated the power of tridimentionality!

I think the message would be clearer to the player if you could only rotate the mask in discrete intervals, in such a way that the player couldn't think that they could be effectively with one active mask at the time (which would break the game, if you could leave the sad mask off all the time.)

Very cool idea though! The mood in general is great, very innovative too!

Under Earth by illugion 2014-04-30T01:28:00

Very cool, too bad it's so short! Also I found it weird that you can't kill the shield guys with the drill, even when you hit them in the back. If fact hitting them in the bad with the drill just makes them move towards you!

Wriggle Worm by gikdew 2014-05-03T23:13:00

Snake reinvented, nice!

Mine Story by donan 2014-04-29T17:08:00

Awesome music, it really adds a jazzy feel to the atmosphere! I was kinda annoyed that you lose the ability to walk diagonally when you pick up the movement speed upgrade.

Hero Arcade Edition by Hyoga-3D 2014-04-29T17:04:00

I love the music! Reminds me of battletoads!

To add to what a lot of people are saying, this really should have controller support! At the very least, you should be able to shoot in more than 8 directions when using the keyboard. Like if you're shooting right and you press up, your aim gradually moves towards up instead of instantly. Or mouse support!

Also the dash felt kinda unnecessary, since you're already flying and all.

All in all, very cool!

Loved the narration!

Fall From Outer Space by gene-z 2014-04-29T05:06:00

Oh man, this is game is awesome! It just takes too long to really start. The initial calm part is very well done and adds a lot to the atmosphere, but after you've seen it once, you want to die and get right back to try again!

Harvest Doom by Mark Venturelli 2014-04-30T17:07:00

Really awesome! Great twist on the tower defense formula. Only thing I found strange was that the range for each plant only works for when you click it, otherwise they just shoot directly downwards.

Parabens galera!

From the Under by damrem 2014-04-29T04:53:00

Feels weird that everythings hits from so far away! The beetle has crazy range.

Cool idea though, and very cool looking too!

The Fields by ryangatts 2014-04-30T23:26:00

The rabbits move too slow! When you die you already have to wait a long time to regain control, and when you do you'll probably take a long time to get back to where you were.

Other than that, really cool idea! Super gorgeous graphics too, top notch!

In the Lair of a Basilisk by Korwegian 2014-04-29T23:30:00

Very nice atmosphere, the sound made the basilisk extra creepy. I guess the main complaint I got is with the control system, it's very strange. I get that you went for an oldschool Eye of the Beholder feel, but I feel this would be much better with regular WASD strafing and mouselook.

Lost in Mine by Mondi 2014-04-29T04:50:00

Awesome lighting effects!

Took me a while to figure out you had to double click in the main menu. I thought my clicks just weren't being registered.

Also it feels kinda cheap that you can't see very far ahead (too zoomed in) but you move so fast that you have to walk in little bursts.

Das Freaking Fish Vs The Flying Octopus Army by MoArtis 2014-04-30T03:59:00

Awesome, I love it! I think you should really have some idea of where the shots are up there when you're ~beneath the surface~, otherwise there's a lot of guessing involved.

Also feels like the jump really should be more precise. Instead of just adding force to the fish every time you press the jump button, the current velocity of its body should be set to zero, so that the jump has always the same strength.

Otherwise pretty awesome!

Flipper by zed0 2014-04-30T16:56:00

I got 13k! I love the atmosphere, very pretty indeed.

When you go too far to the right the ocean just ends, though. Also if you start swimming to the left, front flips become backflips and vice versa.

Darkvision by vexille 2014-05-20T13:26:00

Thank you all for your comments and feedback! I've learned a lot from this experience. My studio has been working hard towards the release of our recent game, so I haven't found much time to work more on Darkvision.

BUT, progress since the end of the LD entry has already been made, and I do intend to release a version that's actually a complete game (even if a short one.) And all your comments are a big motivator towards that goal, so thanks for that everybody! I'll update the page here when I have any news.

De Profundis by nicolashognon 2014-04-29T23:57:00

Gorgeous graphics and excellent sound design! It's hard to understand the yellow bar, though. It depletes when you use the sonar, when you get hit but also depletes over time, so that was kinda weird.

Also I think I noticed a small but that the sonar doesn't push the monsters away, rather it just makes them change direction. So if you accidently hit one that was moving away from you, it will move towards you.

LD37 — One room

The Archwizard's Room by uheartbeast 2016-12-13T16:27:00

I love the visuals! The sprites are very pretty and the overall direction is very nice.

As others have mentioned, waiting for every monster to have its turn can sometimes be a bit frustrating. What I really missed was a "you win" screen of sorts. I thought the big monster thing was like the final boss, but I just killed it and everything else and was just left wandering the map. Something that showed an endgame message when you killed the last monster would do a good job of wrapping things up.

Rubi's Room by Davision 2016-12-13T13:16:00

Pretty cool idea! And it's probably very faithful to an actual Rubik's Cube because I'm rubbish at those and I found the game really hard :P I actually had to use easy mode while playing on easy.

And the game is very pretty but some way graphic quality options would be very welcome. My graphics card was struggling to keep up and kinda overheated. Might be something with my computer, but still, it's worth it to mention.
