The Linux build doesn't work for me; it says "no such file or directory". But after unzipping the source I can run it via "love .". The game still crashes every time I press Enter to retry.

ragzouken 2012-08-27 15:34

The game seems to freeze initially, but then is ok.

The first jump is very unforgiving! Transformation seems to take a very long time - so long that I haven't seen an obstacle before it's too late to transform to avoid it :(

plule 2012-08-27 21:40

@Frozen Fractal Oh no, I don't like issues I can't reproduce. It doesn't give any error ?

@Ragzouken Yeah, I wanted the transformation time to be challenging. I guess it was a bit too much :p

phren 2012-08-29 18:39

This isn't actually that far away from a great game. The game itself is very hard (which is ok) but I feel like the transformations should be faster, so you can actually react instead of getting killed the first time. The music was quite nice, especially the start, where the mood became ominous. With better graphics and shorter transformation times this could be a really nice game for mobiles, for example.

infernet89 2012-08-29 18:51

I've encountered performance problem, or the game isn't fluid intentionally?

By the way, i really liked the idea.

science4cake 2012-08-29 18:54

Same as the others, I feel like transformation was too slow. You have to know the map for transformation to be useful.

tau7153 2012-08-29 20:25

Collision is rather clunky, kept hitting terrain despite having jumped and seemingly missed the obstacle. Found it fun to start with but couldn't workout how the transforming was meant to help. :(

plule 2012-08-29 22:02

Thanks for the feedbacks!
@TinyPlatypus The transformation is useful because there is level made of water or air.
@infernet89 it should be fluid. But since I blindly draw the whole thing, it might not be. sorry :(

Also, since I found a bug in which the slower the computer is, the faster the player fall, I made a post-compo correcting this and with shorter transformation time. I'll take that as a lesson for the next time :)

andrew-2 2012-08-29 22:37

The jumps at the beginning allow for too little margin of error. I guess that's fine for hardcore running game players.

golex 2012-08-29 22:45

I enjoyed the art style. as others have stated the collision detection didn't seem tight and the transformation time was a bit too long.

raroadkill 2012-08-29 23:21

I liked the idea and the gameplay is fun. I think you should decrease the time it takes to transform

devwouter 2012-08-30 17:27

Took a long time to start and was frankly to hard with all the timing. Just some heatlh points would have made it more enjoyable.

demonpants 2012-08-30 17:41

Mac version please thanks!

kefir 2012-08-30 19:03

Cool! It was really challenging! I was like "I must reach this damn water" then like "I must pass this damn water!" and I did it after about 10-20 trys :)) Good job! Very addictive, but still needs some timing and balance improvements. I think you should continue work on this game!

plule 2012-08-30 22:10

@demonpants : damn, I forgot it. Mac version uploaded :)

berkano 2012-08-31 21:20

Difficult, but in a good way! I love the minimalism of the colour and music. The graphics are really unique, too.

garygreen 2012-08-31 21:33

Really liked the monochrome graphics style and idea of transformation. I found it difficult to transform before navigating the obstacles though.

wilbefast 2012-09-01 10:19

Ubuntu 10.04 64bit: module 'hump.class' not found <:S

gama11 2012-09-07 09:45

Cool autorunner game. I like the idea of transformations, but they take way too long to be usable at all. I feel like they should apply almost instantly, but have a cooldown.
Animations seemed rather polished, while the surroundings could need some work.
I'm missing a highscore-counter.
I would allow the player to use the up / down key for restarting. I feel like no-one is gonna use F1-F3 to transoform, you might as well remove those.

Could be a really good game with some additional work and polish! :)

wilbefast 2012-09-08 12:33

I love the animation, though I found the choice of colours made obstactles (especially fish) really hard to see at times! Good job anyway - couldn't get it to work on Linux but it runs on Windows 7 64 bit :)

plule 2012-09-08 17:38

Ahah, about removing F1-F3 : that's the only option that's usable on my keyboard :D (my layout : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3a/Carte-bepo-simple.png )

About the poor visual aspect of the surroundings : yeah, I didn't manage to apply a texture... (and, I feel like I would have done something ugly.). I'm glad you like the animation, the runner is the first sprite I ever made :)

(well, too bad I'm planning to do a polished version with different visuals :D maybe I'll change my mind)

mdkess 2012-09-09 00:44

For linux: You should give the executable the .love extension to make it clear what it is. Double clicking didn't work, but it ran fine in love.

Anyway, your game is really nice. I think it needs better effects - it feels a bit punishing sometimes - but I like it. Good use of the theme too.

localcoder 2012-09-09 06:15

I found this a bit too hard for me - it took many many attempts to get up to the water.

I'd suggest making the first part of the game very easy so that players like me can see the water section (and realise how cool the game is) without having to try too many times.

Apart from being hard, I enjoyed this - it's a cool variation on the 'run and escape' type of game that I haven't seen before.

plule 2012-09-09 08:01

@mdkess This is supposed to be a real executable that open when double-clicking. It's fun that opening it with LÖVE works. I'll add a warning.

someone 2012-09-09 16:35

Fun game but a bit unforgiving. Had to learn the level to stand a chance. Got as far as the water but found that a bit hard to control.

minism 2012-09-12 06:46

The game is pretty difficult because the hitboxes are a bit too large. Its fun, though, and has a good pacing, so nice job! Also bonus points for putting the instructions in the title of the game

azurenimbus 2012-09-17 22:36

This is pretty sweet! I had a lot of fun, actually. I didn't get very far yet, I want to play some more later.

Amazing results for your first game, congratulations!

conflictivelabs 2012-09-17 22:57

Nice game. Transformation was a bit slow, and the controls need a bit of work (particularly underwater). Checkpoints would've been greatly appreciated.

Also, I think gameover messaged shouldn't try to be "funny/witty" because they look like they are mocking the player. Constructive advice is always appreciated like "big fish are dangerous, avoid them. Small ones however, can give you a health boost" (I know it's not like that in the game, it's an example) instead of "Really? did you REALLY tried to kiss that fish or something? I mean, Eww dude, what's wrong with you!?"

I got really far in the water section but failed to reach the end of it before giving up. It's a nice entry though. Thumbs up!
