WOW!!! That's so cool! Really impressive that you managed to do this in a Compo! It has a really nice gameplay feel, and the graphics are minimalistic and pretty. The game is challenging but not difficult enough to leave you frustrated. Also, nice interface with good feedback! (haha, on steam you would never get such a comment, but they don't know the pain making it :D) 10/10 would play again :) edit: rated <3

kcreanor 2017-04-26 09:18

Thanks! Glad you liked it!!

thedoodleguy 2017-04-26 13:55

Awesome gameplay idea, very fun!

kcreanor 2017-04-26 14:17

@thedoodleguy Thanks! Cheers for playing :)

angiemon 2017-04-26 19:40

I'm not a guy, but you're welcome! :D

kcreanor 2017-04-26 22:41

@angiemon hahaha I'm so sorry, I really gotta stop that!!! Thanks again for playing though 😁

silvertwig 2017-04-27 00:07

That was really good fun, will defo vote on this when I can, very nice game :D

drazil100 2017-04-27 06:09

This game was super cool yet very challenging. I am sorry I couldn't get farther earlier when I was playing but I had quite a bit of fun giving it a shot! Controls were very solid and the whole programming of flying around a sphere was spot on. Thanks for sharing your work earlier!

kcreanor 2017-04-27 06:22

Thanks everyone! @drazil100 was great getting to watch you play earlier, thank you so much for doing that. I'm going to tweak level 5 to make it a bit easier and add it as a post-jam build and fix the resolution on load, but I'm just happy people enjoyed any part of it; it's my first ever games jam and it's such a weird (but great!) feeling to hear people enjoy playing my game!

Thanks everyone!

for-science 2017-04-28 14:34

Nice challenging game. The controls are smooth and everything worked fine. It was a bit frustrating at times, but in a good way: You keep messing up the level, but you know it is your own fault and you *want* to get better at the game.

samurai-spark 2017-04-28 14:51

For someone who gets quite easy into rage mode I should not have played this!

But the controls feel pretty responsive so I can't blame the game for my constant failures. Overall a really fun game, I might even give it another shot and try to finish it next time!

kcreanor 2017-04-28 14:51

@for-science Haha great thank you so much for playing! That was the idea, I keep going back and trying to beat my own times, it's really satisfying when you can do a level quickly, you just need to remember to breathe!!

kcreanor 2017-04-28 15:15

@Samurai-spark It takes a bit more getting used to than I first anticipated! Thanks, the controls were a big part of the development; they had to be intuitive enough otherwise the whole thing would be literally impossible! Thanks for noticing and thanks a million for playing :) Daily Routine looks amazing btw, it's getting played tonight too :)

add-an-a 2017-04-29 13:10

This was the first of the Ludum Dare 38 entries that I tried, and I really enjoyed it. The controls are simple, but the puzzles are challenging (read: frustrating). You also did a great job on the UI - all the elements fit together nicely.

danbolt 2017-05-01 07:44

Great mechanic. I have one of those red [mouse nub things on the ThinkPads](https://c.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/20130703_120527-580x435.jpg), and it's fun to shoot around with the speed you can fling the cursor at.

I think it'd work great with gamepad support. Or, being able to use the analog stick to control direction/speed would be an awesome fit.

Overall, great work! It looks slick.

ratbag 2017-05-01 09:46

@kcreanor, what a stunner! Great example of a 5/5 game! Any complaints from my end are completely user error haha. A very tight puzzle game it is addicting, devastating and glorifying at the same time. Everyone who entered compo should check this gem out!

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2017-05-01 11:28

Really nice, Rated :) !

You should cut the countdown or accelerate it, IMO !

chronosv2 2017-05-01 12:56

Nice game to start my Monday with! Pretty good controls and neat layouts. I don't really have any complaints. Keep up the good work!

khorm 2017-05-01 13:30

Well this was just great, this game has some really top notch things I like:

- Easy to learn hard to master - Very smooth controls - Replayabillity - saving top score per level - Great concept - Sweet menu with level selection

Only things that got a tiny bit annoying was the countdowntimer on harder levels - should really decrease it to like 1 second or perhaps make it skippable.

Frontrunner game for me so far.

mathijsvissers 2017-05-01 14:00

Great game! Good difficulty curve. A nice challenge to do things as fast as you can while not crashing. Graphics are not great, but do the job just fine. Same with the audio, but the gameplay is where this game really excels. Really really solid entry.

heinrix 2017-05-01 14:11

This game reminds me of those steady hand buzzer games we got taught to make in school... https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-e_773Q83hU/maxresdefault.jpg

I really enjoyed this and I'm very impressed how many levels you managed to build in such a short time.

The controls are very sharp and precise. I sometimes found the "small world" deceptive in how big it was and often crashed for miss judging what speed my reaction time could handle.

Good fun and solid Ludum Dare entry, well done.

Highly rated by me.

mrnyarlathotep 2017-05-01 14:21

Very solid and polished compo entry - I always enjoy people experimenting with control schemes and reducing things to as few inputs as possible, so multi directional and multi speed controls with a single mouse click nails that.

Also as someone who never has enough time to get any music in at all I'm impressed you got multiple tracks made!

olkeencole 2017-05-01 14:26

Very cool! Simple yet super effective. I don't know what it is, but navigating around the sphere is very satisfying. The only thing I would say, critique-wise, is that it might be nice to have a subtle texture on the sphere -- in the first level I didn't realize I was going around the sphere because it all looked the same. Granted, when you get walls in later areas, this is a big deal. Great job!!!

fedor 2017-05-01 14:29

Great work!! I really enjoyed the gameplay. It's really hard for me but I playied on touchpad and couldn't get too far. I like the mechanics and levels. Well done ;)

iwa 2017-05-01 14:33

The various level shapes makes it really fun. Good job.

smbe19 2017-05-01 14:34

Interesting idea. The game got kinda hard after the first few levels but more like annoying hard instead of enjoyable hard. One reason for this is that it felt kinda unfair when I crashed (e.g. because if you turn the back of the ship swerves out and easily crashes) and that the difficulty partly lies with the input.

xavier-indie-gamedev 2017-05-01 15:00

Nice game!

I really like the race-against-time maze gameplay, its quite unique (and gets quite intense :P). Took me a while (not too long) to realise that moving the mouse further away made you go faster, and the music kinda got annoying haha, but the UI and graphics were really smooth, and I like the simple controls. If you make future levels, maybe there could be powerups and stuff!

And this was for compo no less! Well done!

Btw, don't forget to go back and rate my game haha

koreus7 2017-05-01 15:16

Wow, I'm impressed! That is one slick game. Simple mechanics but still hard to get really good at.

I'm amazed you had time to make so many levels and I also liked how you introduced new elements one at a time.

If I had to make a criticism it would be that the music loop could be longer (just some simple variations of the loop stacked) but also this is a compo entry so well done on getting time to do music at all!)

silvertwig 2017-05-01 20:04

Came back to rate it, still a fantastic job on this, some of the levels were a bit tricky, the last one was my favourite though. Nice work :D

burgee 2017-05-01 21:20

Fun game! It has a nice smooth difficulty curve that didn't leave me feeling unequipped for the challenge.

I defnitely found myself going back trying to beat my times, which I don't usually do unless the game seems super fair and balanced and I feel like it's my own skill holding me back.

I like this!

fatpenguin 2017-05-01 21:39

Great job! The controls are easy to learn and I had a lot of fun playing. The new elements in the later levels are great and fit perfectly into the gameplay. You should really add some more content after the jam - at least I would be happy to get to play some more :)

peachtreeoath 2017-05-02 04:55

This was meant to be speed run! Looks and feels really good!

stoogebag 2017-05-02 12:53

Awesome, awesome. Some notes:

- It seems there are really 2 types of levels, and the difficulty really ramps up when you get into the 2nd kind. It starts very easy when you're kind of wandering around to collect the barrels, and then when it gets into the more 'mazelike' speed-levels the difficulty picks up very much. It's also where the game is at its best, there is a great tension between speed and precision. Level 8 is an absolute masterpiece of that balance, well done - The graphics are perfect, they're clean and simple. The background is not great. I hate the font but thats personal taste, it certainly suits the game's style. - The controls are very good. I suspect your are targeting touch, where it would work well. You can game it a little by letting go of the mouse to come to an instant stop: I'd recommend a penatly for that (maybe letting go of the mouse causes the ship to drift), since it can be used to make things a bit easier than I think is intended. - The final level completion screen says 'level 11' not 12.

Overall, wow. Very good game, keep making it. Awesome.

fiery-squirrel 2017-05-02 15:12

I think that you planned to create the game for mobiles in the future, very nice idea!. I like the simple graphics and the level design, well thought. I'm not sure if you have thought about adding some extra time web getting one of the fuel boxes, I think would be encouraging for players. As an improvement, if you decide to release the game or extend it, adding feedback when getting the fuels would be very nice, like a bunch of particles or something, to improve the good feeling. Generally speaking, very good entry, good job!

arcticmattekar 2017-05-02 17:59

I had fun playing this game. Nice work!

jackyjjc 2017-05-03 00:42

It reminded me of the wire loop game I played when I was a kid. The game's control feels very smooth but it is definitely not an easy game. I had a lot of fun keep retrying the challenging levels. I love that there are more and more mechanics added to later levels to keep the game fresh. The difficulty curve was nicely designed as well. The graphics is minimalistic but actually suits the game feel quite a lot (improvement will still be great).

Very solid entry, I like it. Well done!

jasperarmstrong 2017-05-03 01:15

I had a lot of fun playing this, so much so that I beat the whole game! Some of the later levels were very challenging, in a good way. The one thing that I didn't like was the 3 second countdown before being able to start the level. I would have preferred the timer to just start after I moved for the first time. Also some of your buttons were inconsistent with which font they were using.

micahcowan 2017-05-03 20:45

That was a lot of fun! Level 9 defeated me, heh.

Wire loop game in space! ...Also reminds me of the UFO boss level of Super Mario Galaxy. :)

Thanks for playing my own game earlier!

ping78 2017-05-03 22:19

Great gameplay and graphics. Passed all the levels, had fun.

iseeicy 2017-05-03 22:33

GUAHHHHHHHHHHH

You are playing with fire here. This game hurt me on a *very* deep level. Purely because I'm awful at it.

That being said, this was great. I'm astonished that this is a compo entry - you've done fantastic work! This could be a great mobile game, which should be pretty easy to port to with Unity.

I've only got one piece of criticism - I feel like the ship's origin should be placed near the back rather than the exact middle. When trying to fly away from a wall that you're parallel with, you immediately explode. That sucks. A lot. If you can fix that and add a few more levels, it could turn into a pretty nice game outside of the jam.

Good work!

g12345 2017-05-06 21:48

Not completely sure if it's a puzzle game. I can't get pass level 9, but I do like it's a fast and frentic game trying to get to the end as rushed as possible!

Also, the graphics are really nice and clear and crisp, it's so good looking 3d. i feel like playing micro machines or any other small racing game but with very deadly walls.

Like it a lot even if i cant finish it...

x1212 2017-05-07 08:17

Great game!

The graphics and sound work well together, the levels design lets you get introduced to the games mechanics one step at a time, there is always some challenge due to the time limit.

Sometimes I wished I could have used the keyboard instead of the mouse, because I'm not used to be very precise with the mouse ... but that's just my lack of skill.

gundatsch 2017-05-07 10:30

Fun and challenging ... and even harder when played with a touchpad :D

Solid work indeed for a compo entry. Everything feels like a game and theres nothing missing which would be obvious. Seems like you knew what you were doing.

somnium 2017-05-07 15:55

Input precision and frenetic timed action combines into a fine action/puzzle game!

The art is sleek and very nice looking, and the gameplay and controls feel pretty tight. And there is even a high score mechanism to encourage replay. I did have to adjust my mouse sensitivity, in order to get the fine control necessary to complete some of the more involved mazes though. Or maybe I just didn't master the distance equals speed mechanic well enough...

All in all, it is an impressive game, especially for a Compo entry!

>Fuel has been placed. >Now you must run the gauntlet. >Collision is death.

nickzangus 2017-05-09 15:41

Wow, really great game! (particularly for the compo) Only one thing: please remove the 3 seconds countdown at the begin, maybe you can automatically start the fuel consumption when the player moves for the first time.

alexandr-rum 2017-05-09 16:08

Good control of the game, and what is in the boxes?

jishenaz 2017-05-09 17:01

This is a very polished and well implemented entry! I've noticed that a lot of game entries have implemented movement on spherical bodies, and I'm quite jealous of that; must have been hard to get working!

The hardest level for me was Level 9, but at least we are given a ton of time to finish that level. Level 11 was oddly easy. I love the level previews when you select levels. Spaceship and box graphics were very nice.

If there was one thing that I think should change, it's the death explosion sound effect. It's too funny! That it's funny is actually distracting when I retry a level (makes it harder to concentrate, especially Level 9).

Overall very awesome game!

*Edit: One last thing. I played the web version of the game, and the audio was too quiet. I had to turn up the volume very high.*

2017-05-12 14:00

Really cool game. Good level desing i like so much the puzzle concept.

I hope new mechanics on the future.

Nice job!!

jakob-willforss 2017-05-13 08:09

I liked this one a lot, keept me hooked for a while! Nice and tight controls, interesting concepts and spot-on the theme. Impressive work. The thing that made me stop playing after a while was the insta-death against walls in levels with cumbersome passages. I think it would have been nicer with some kind of penalty (bounding off and freezing for a moment or something) rather than immediately forcing restart which broke the immersion for me. But that was kind of my only complaint. Nice job!!

takusan 2017-05-15 19:42

Really well done. Especially controls, I expected some issues, but the steering is just spot on. The small planet / sphere mechanic plays out extremely well in this case.

From what I see some people found the insta-death annoying, but with such tight controls and rather unforgiving time limit, this game is about precision, so insta-death seems fair, and the loop to restart is not long. At lest it didn't break immersion for me, so, again IMO ot was good decision.

Issue I noticed - it's possible to get 'level failed' and 'level complete' at the same time if you catch the last crate at the last second, but that's a matter of adding a simple check / bool, so just letting you know.

Suggestion to remove countdown and substitute it with firing off the timer when player starts moving is something I'd suggest as well - it would make the game loop more seamless, and in this case it should prove beneficial.

Great compo work, for me it feels really polished, and very well designed and coded.

Cheers!

jacob-brown 2017-05-16 22:42

Awesome Job, Great controls cool concept. Seems like this isn't your first time making a game.

The game just feels extremely polished.

adding in a score rating for time would be cool, typically run the map yourself whatever your best time is (as the creator) make that an A rating one rating less for each second off. This way I can tell if I'm doing well.

Also Bug report: mute doesn't work on the WEBGL version from the pause menu, seems to detect that I am hitting the retry button instead.

Well done!

antti-haavikko 2017-05-18 07:34

Beat it with hard mode on (using touchpad instead of an actual mouse). Liked it. The controls were pretty much perfect.

The only thing I would change game design wise is the player hitbox (for collisions, obviously for pickups it's fine). I'm more into touhou style hitboxes where the colliding area is way smaller than the player sprite/model so it feels more fair. That way every single collision that happens seem more fair and surviving some super close call looking situations makes the player feel great.

All around solid entry. Good job!

himeija 2017-05-18 08:56

I love the design and the controls are great! But I find the music a little too repetitive and annoying...

Great job anyway !

gamequester 2017-05-18 09:04

Great gameplay and visuals. The music was also good. Great compo entry!

richard-michael-smith 2017-05-18 11:42

This is a great idea and the graphics are excellent. If I had to criticise...and I do...then I would say this:

* The first level is difficult because there are no reference points. When you are hunting for the last fuel you can't even tell if you are moving and that's infuriating. * The camera is the biggest problem (and I know all about this because it's the biggest problem in my game - however yours is nowhere near as bad as mine). On level 4 I would just hit a corner not because I had the mouse in the wrong position but because the camera would rotate. I felt like I would die not because of my own failings but the camera's - and that's a big no-no in game design...or so I'm told :grinning: * The music doesn't really fit the game and the loop is too short.

It's very easy to be negative about anything (especially in this day-and-age) but I want to end with the positives: what you've made in under 48 hours is remarkable and, with just a little more polish this is something you could release commercially.

garethiw 2017-05-18 12:03

Played until my mouse hand hurt and still couldn't beat level 4 :) Really like the idea and the control method.

Things I would change: - Have a crosshair/circle that represents the centre of movement. It seemed like it was off centre to the ship, so you could incorporate this into the ship if it was aligned exactly to centre. - Slow down the acceleration just a touch. I know this was part of the challenge, but it seemed overly twitchy! - Reduce the hitbox size/make the hitbox more consistent. Sometimes the nose of the ship could be inside the wall, but if you spun round in the opposite direction, the rear of the ship would hit the wall.

That aside, great art and presentation. Solid entry!

pcmaster 2017-05-18 12:12

Very interesting controls. I agree with the comment above me regarding the suggestions. I like the concept, it was easy to play. You should go and release this on mobile, really! :) Well done!

mateus-trigueiro 2017-05-18 14:37

Really liked this one. My favorite so far. The controls feel really smooth and precise and the learning and difficulty curves were well thought out. The level design is really challenging and helps teach the player even without tutorials. The graphics would need some working on, but it's nothing that greatly hinders the game. There's not enough time for everything on a Jam and a fun, short and fluid experience like the one you got here tends to be the best choice.

The camera and planet rotation felt slightly dizzying at first, but I ended up getting used to it.

Congratulations! You deserve all the good ratings and feedback!

daisychubb 2017-05-19 12:40

I would LOVE to play this on mobile, it really is addictive and you want to keep playing the harder levels. Great graphics, unique planets and smooth gameplay all managed to be both relaxing and frustrating (in a good way!) haha :)

Great job!

itsandrea 2017-05-19 22:25

Woah it's quite addicting your game! Thanks for feedback my game btw
