fun! I love it

Great idea for a game! I didn't have someone to play with, but I still got the gist and enjoyed it. Your art is well done and beautiful, and the design is well put together.

A whole gameplay is really nice. It should have fun doing this, and you did it well, good job

The jazzy soundtrack really swings. I didn't have someone to play with either but i will get someone and rate it then later.

The rules weren't completely clear to me (once the numbers came in) but as i said i will try again later. Really nice graphics^^

Nice game, I'm not sure it quite has the same complexity as chess. But it is certainly still fun to play with others, and still has a fair bit of strategy (especially for something made for Ludum Dare). Well done.

I'm saving this one to re-rate it later after playing with someone else. Meanwhile I have just rated graphics/audio. I have the feeling that my friend and me will enjoy playing it, will see.

Really enjoyed playing this with someone, although we may have found some optimal strategies. The mythical hamsters are an interesting mechanic that make it an overall fun game that is well balanced, especially given the small time frame.

Good loop chess, I enjoyed playing it. It has interesting mechanics I didn't expected in a ludum dare game.

Thank you everyone for playing my game <3

@willoxs @tino Look forward to your re-rating :3

@willoxs Glad to see you like the soundtrack lol, I quickly made it for about 30 min, in the last few hours before packing the game.

@wevel @mycosil I came up with the mechanics after I settled down on an "Ouroboros" theme. It was really a tense one to make the game design solid enough to play plus program it into a fully playable demo on the first day. I agree it has not as much complexity as Chess, but I still need to thank you for your liking on the mechanics.

In some way I named this game wrong since it doesn't really share the same tone with Chess, and I was thinking more about Renju or Go when designing it. I didn't realize it since all these board games in my native language (Mandarin Chinese) share the same suffix "-qi2" which means this kind of strategy board games where you control units and put them on the grids battling against your opponents. When people use "qi2" they are talking about Chess or Xiangqi most of the time, as a result I came up with a wrong word with different nuance for the title of the game. Really sorry, should have made the title clearer.

@jetyh Thank you and your friend for playing! <3 The game is made with me bear in mind balancing it, but I didn't test it very thoroughly. Only when after I published the game did I find an optimal strategy on the 'fullset' board. If I have to trim down the advantage of the first player, it could be better if the game didn't allow one player to deploy a hamster onto another player's hamster, and gave more mana to the second player at the beginning. The math in this game is not perfectly balanced, but anyway, I think the framework is roughly okay to support the idea. I am still satisfied about the outcome of this 3-day LD challenge haha.

(Off-topic: @tino I like your comment under Resurrection)

Game very well done, I liked the fun provided, good job!

thomas-volpato 2020-10-10 21:20

5/5 really nice game, the only problem I couldnt try agains someone else, so I always win

figueroass27 2020-10-13 05:48

i think this game is super fun and a really interesting take on chess. I might just be me but at first the tile pictures were pretty hard to make out, other than that its great!

trexxak 2020-10-14 17:38

Ahh, I was just thinking "well this isn't exactly like chess" before reading your comment about Mandarin Chinese. Thank you for the explanation!

I couldn't play it with anyone else, but I like the concept a lot and could see it becoming a classic board game with time, if you were to consider making it a physical version, that is.

As soon as I get the possibility, I will play this with a friend! Great job, the game feels very much like a finished concept!

alchemic 2020-10-15 06:23

This was really fun to play around with. My friend and I had a hard time finding optimal strategies though. It seems like the first player has a really huge advantage.

oillen 2020-10-22 01:03

Cool concept, I actually like the rule set, although I have one issue with the current ruleset: the frirst player can set a figure next to the head of the second player and what ever the second one does, the first player can take the head of the other players snake and wins. Ok I am a bit verbous about the one thing I want to criticise - so there are the good things: Concept, Visual Style & Interaction(GUI)

theseller 2020-10-22 21:50

It's a very unique idea! The graphics were a little rough; I had a hard time seeing the differences between the snake head, mythics, and towns
