LD38 — A Small World

Tiny Planet Corp by joozey 2017-04-27T21:41:41Z

With changing directions while drilling being so difficult and the screen so short I found myself guessing more than actually strategizing where I should drill. By the end I just drilled straight down to make my life with the claw easier and scored 17000 points. I think either a little bit more leeway with the claw or make it so that the whole landing sequence can be skipped easily. Having the claw explode and then having to wait for the ship to land before being able to try again was a bit frustrating. I thought you did a pretty good job with the music and a great job with making the crystals look good. I also liked the view of the planet from space.

4 Hours by Christian Koch 2017-04-27T22:17:50Z

First person platforming is almost always finicky and this game is no exception. It's difficult to judge distances and whether or not I'm above a platform. The fact that I can't look directly up is a bit of a problem in the third level. The time rewind mechanic was an absolutely necessity and a very good inclusion. I genuinely appreciate the fact that I could rebind the keys in this game.

Diminishing Lands by drazil100 2017-04-27T21:58:12Z

This game has some very tight controls. It has just enough momentum to give the character weight without making the whole thing seem slidey. I never felt like the guy was outside of my control. The UI and goal was easy to understand. A fun little game, albeit a bit repetitive.

SmlWhrld - A Puzzle by OldeTobeh 2017-04-27T22:36:06Z

That's a really nice looking cube. The puzzles were pretty easy and it didn't exactly control very smoothly, but I still had fun trying to complete each puzzle at quickly as possible.

Floating Towers by Vony256 2017-04-27T21:13:17Z

I had some fun with this. Initially the little red guys would get to the town before I could place down anything to stop them, and if I stopped the first wave the second or third wave would take me out. That's not a problem, I appreciate the difficulty, but it may be a bit too steep for the initial waves. But once I figured out how to get past the first few waves I was getting so much gold so fast I could just lay down a huge sea of spike circles that nothing could get past. The learning curve may be initially steep but the skill ceiling is pretty low. I'd say the one thing this game needs is balance if it's going to be much of a challenge beyond the first couple of waves. Also, once I started getting sub 20 FPS and guys started spawning in the blue I figured that I could count this as a win, at least as much of a win as I was going to get.

Still, like I said at the beginning, I still had some fun with this. Figuring out how to stop those waves and taking advantage of choke points, although a simple fun, was fun nonetheless.

The Inner Lock by EveningWayward 2017-05-19T08:52:11Z

This game made me genuinely uncomfortable. Good job.

Talk Isn't Cheap by Riker Greenslade 2017-05-19T06:36:08Z

Man, this is awesome. The audio pretty much makes the game. It gives a great sense of progression and has a creative take on how faster communication makes our world smaller. I had a great time creating the huge web at the end when I had more money than I knew what to do with.

I'm giving this top marks.

The link to your game on itch.io 404's. Please fix, I want to play your game!

MAGNETOGRABBER 2000 by kroltan 2017-12-05T23:04:46Z

I'll reiterate what many people have said. Graphics are great. The hit effect especially really sells the impact. It's also easy to tell what I'm supposed to be doing and how I'm supposed to be doing it. Outside of that, it doesn't feel very good to control. Allowing for the direction to be controlled by the mouse would go a long way, but there's just too much momentum to really feel like I really have any control of the ship.

Lost Sakura by HellSquirrel 2017-12-05T23:43:44Z

Nice pixel art and enjoyable, albeit not particularly innovative, game-play. Sound effects are top notch and really elevate the game.

Stampede - Run or DIE by Erik Brunnstrom 2017-12-06T01:35:40Z

This game was really fun. One of the best I've played so far. The fact that it plays like a zombie game but is themed as a rock-star running away from fans is funny, and the sound effects really sell it. It actually made me chuckle.

Mr. Gigafist: a post-apocalyptic brawling adventure by Shodanon 2017-12-06T01:15:44Z

That was a fun game.

Sniper Protector (re uploaded) by ostoru 2017-12-06T01:20:38Z

@dragonfyzex That's a feature.

@xeloglaz Thanks for the compliments! You raise some completely valid criticisms. An options menu absolutely should have been added and I'm kicking myself for not adding one. The growth is exponential so I will agree it does get out of hand faster than it maybe should.

@geraldfingburke That's a large part of where the idea came from. Thinking back, a cross-hair in the un-zoomed state would have probably helped with this.

@phillserrazina Glad you had fun.

@abilean Our artist was very busy during the jam and some unused assets probably found their way onto to game file. As for aiming, the wobbliness may be the mouse sensitivity (in game, not the mouse sensitivity you have set on your computer) or the moving from not-aiming to aiming states. There isn't any aim-assist and minimal added smoothing when zoomed, but the sensitivity is decreased when aiming to make it less jerky. Practicing smoother mouse movement probably wouldn't hurt, but then again neither would an options menu with an option to add more smoothing.

A simple and very short game but the art direction is really good.

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-05T23:28:44Z

I enjoyed it. It's interesting trying to balance accepting compliments and turning compliments away. The graphics aren't particularly stunning but they do a good job at communicating what is going on which I argue is more important that just looking nice.

Broken Light by Xeloglaz 2017-12-06T10:05:21Z

I enjoyed the game. Firing the gun is satisfying with good sound effects, particle effects, knockback, and low enemy health selling each shot. I feel like I have good control of the character as I move around. Because constant movement is so important to staying alive I feel like it would have been nice if the reload button was bound to a key that could be pressed by a finger not doing something else, like shift, ctrl, space, or the right mouse button. While the art is nothing to write home about it is easy to tell what is going on. It would have been nice to have some sound effect for when the player gets damaged.

Vikings 3000 by Zachary Petersen 2017-12-06T00:38:11Z

That was a fun little game. It was neat to see the fortress grow as I made a mad scramble to spend as much money as possible.
