LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Bum Bag Bangin' by DuzzOnDrums 2017-12-07T12:04:21Z

Love what you did based on Ego :) The atmosphere is really well set up, lively beat, It would have been really awesome with more enemies, or something more challenging. But I know that everything was also a matter of time challenge. Oh, the only "disappointment" I have is the font you used for the title ^^ It just feels impersonal compared to the whole game. In other words, very very pleasant entry.

The lost strawberry by egordorichev 2017-12-05T14:20:44Z

I have to admit my brain was freezed at the begining. I was totally confused by the colors. However it gives a great explosive mood. That's the kind of game I'd like to have on a pocket emulator haha. Very nice. The only reproach I could make is about the game mechanic which is kind of hard to start with.

I guess it would be awesome with controllers ;)

For Better or For Worse by valandre 2017-12-06T21:36:31Z

The more I would say, the worse it would be. Things have already been said. I enjoyed this poetic atmosphere. That was touching. Plus it fits perfectly to the theme. Easy mechanic, easy to understand, challenging ; serious stuff.

Coastal Postal by dom 2017-12-06T17:20:05Z

Very nice little puzzle game. I really like the way you played on the theme with these kind of puzzle. Also the way you gave it a context. However I'm being stuck at a the same point as @unfinished. Don't know if I'm not smart enough or if it's a lack of explanations. Great entry though !

Bloom by HakunaMacouta 2017-12-05T22:57:19Z

First of all, I was surprised to see Carrie from The Amazing World of Gumball. It's kind of funny as it could have been an extra episode of her life. I don't even know if you know this TV Show though. Then I would say it totally fits the theme. Trees are so annoying ! In a good way ;)

Despite the fact that I didn't feel satisfied when I won (probably because I expected more friends to save), I liked to play it. Thanks !

Glutton's Heaven by klekky 2017-12-06T21:02:11Z

This was a challenging experience ! Guess it's hard to finish it. I was also suprised by the fact that pressing spacebar skip to the next text. I won't tell you the same advice twice then. Nice humor approach though ;)

Lost Sakura by HellSquirrel 2017-12-05T15:21:46Z

Hentai Dude : > Slicin' haters with my blade, ronin wit the code, though They call me Mugen, put my flow up on the rhyme Disintegratin' my enemies, my way of samurai"

I love the idea. Same as above though. I would also say that a music would be welcome. Something that could enhance the atmosphere. The concept reminds me of Final Fantasy IX when you have to pretend fighting with Frank during the theater performance. Good job !

Chicken Tender by misterstripey 2017-12-06T01:58:17Z

Really satisfying game and also STRESSING because of the dialogues appearing in front of the toolbox. That's part of the loving details I like in games. Especially when the farmer reminds it to you haha. Fun game, solid idea, would make a lovely game with more contents.

ThemeTris by Hackschnitzel 2017-12-06T01:11:35Z

Yosh ! I have to say that I needed time to dig the concept you worked on. It's actually a good idea. Honestly, I feel the reason why you merge your concept with tetris. But maybe you should have tried to find a different artstyle approach. Even something pretty simple could fit the idea. Lines of codes following each others, getting built one on another.

The more disorganized code you have, the more messy it is. That is what I feel. So it couldn't be closer to the theme. The point is that I can't really reward the innovation as the only difference between this Themetris & Tetris is that some "narrative" stuff appears sometimes.

So the advice I can give you would be to improve the "story" elements and add levels of self-improvements (the same way we Learn). So that way you would be able to make a game, based on Tetris mechanics but enhanced with narrative contents.

Don't know if you feel the idea though

BLOK'D by AndrewJAdams 2017-12-06T02:10:18Z

Actually before getting 134 points I didn't expect to play that much x) It has something addictive I really appreciated. Sticks perfectly to the theme, simple graphics, instinctive, easy to understand. Could be a classic. It doesn't need a humor aspect though (from my point of view of course).

Too Many Chooks by Schu 2017-12-06T01:42:09Z

Ok first impression is that the artstyle is close to something funny. Yeah, the idea is fun so you could definitely make the design funny too. :musical_note:**"Push it to the limit"**:musical_note: Even the music could be "stupid" (in the good way). Like someone else said above the animation before they lay is the instinctive touch that make things a bit "predictible". Nice touch. It was actually really challenging, liked the idea.

A Spark of Light by TurbulentWinds 2017-12-06T01:22:09Z

A game that made me feel claustrophobic at the end. I'd definitely see some additional content like a light devourer (Some monsters following you to eat your light in case you don't move that much). It would give an horror atmosphere to the game and something stressing. Really good concept.

Crimson Recon by TobiasNL 2017-12-05T21:33:55Z

I really appreciate the main idea of living bullets. Sadly I broke my mouse a while ago so It is extremely hard for me to play this x) It's a funny challenge actually to be the target of your own power. The atmosphere is nicely done thanks to the narrative aspects and the global quitness. I have to admit that, because of my mouse problem, I couldn't go far through the game. That's on me.

Thanks for the (future) experience.

Scrooge the Cat by clayzulah 2017-12-06T17:04:37Z

Simple and very well done artstyle. Smooth and clean. I agree the atmosphere fits with christmas  The game is chalenging and to my opinion, it could be easely implemented into a bigger game as a mini game. There's some inspiration to dig up here. Nice work !

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T21:19:17Z

The only reason why I stopped playing was because at a certain point I was unable to move my troops. Just like @mikomikisomi. Beside this fact, I really enjoyed it, I just don't really see how the more I have the worse it gets. Maybe you should clarify this point.

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-05T01:40:17Z

Glad you liked it

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-05T23:33:56Z

Yeah I also noticed it. Guess I have some HTML5 issues I'm trying to find the reason why... For the moment I'll just delete the web version. My internet connection s**ks so I thought it might be the problem for me. Obviously it isn't.

@adrenalien Can you tell me your screen resolution ? The .exe file shouldn't result on a black screen... I'll try it tomorrow on different screens.

Thanks for the feedback though !

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-06T00:25:34Z

Okay so I finally figured out how to fix HTML5 version on itch.io. At least for myself. I hope it will work for everyone. Sadly the same version seems to be stuck on the loading screen on gamejolt. I have no idea why...

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-06T00:52:12Z

It definitely motivates me to improve it. Actually mass clicking shouldn't work that well  As this is my first Ludum Dare I have to check if I can improve this now, or if I have to wait until the end of the game jam.

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-06T01:29:37Z

Thanks for your feedback everyone ! I'll carefully remember your advices for future improvements. Especially the height indicator (and lose conditions). I think it's because of a line of code I modified before sharing it. Like I said it was impossible to get that high. By the way, when the character is growing it is supposed to symbolically look like an "I". haha, aside done.

Don't Grow Ego by Sherwood 2017-12-06T12:45:20Z

Haha, @notpresident35, you need to excuse me for this one. That was a lack of inspiration. It's some urban sayings for Thank you. I'll soon publish news with the last ideas I had. Thanks to you people.

Mortal Komba by kokirisandfriends 2017-12-05T22:47:55Z

Me, after the second character came on screen >Whaaaaaaaaaat just happened ???

Like I said about another game, this also reminds of Final Fantasy IX... When you first play with Bibi and you can play this minigame in the city. Yeah, my childhood... But this one pushes the difficulty higher. So thanks for the remembrance and this innocent but hard entry ;)

LD49 — Unstable

Wacky Pachyderm by fishbrain 2021-10-05T20:25:58Z

My girlfriend and I had a really good time playing your game. It's really fun and the gameplay makes it challenging but not frustrating. Maybe adding lives was unnecessary and just being able to try hard the same level is enough. Good work :)

Family Little Horror Show by ashtheevil 2021-10-07T07:40:38Z

Great concept, I found myself retrying cause I really appreciate this kind of gameplay. I also liked the fact that some choices mattered. I think my only complaint is about ghost's speed. Maybe pressing shift to be a bit faster sometimes would be a nice addition. But to be honest, that's a really solid entry !

I've seen in your previous post you asked for people to share their game too. So here is ours :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/the-flamingo-files

Clay Boy by davision 2021-10-06T17:33:16Z

What a weird but funny game ! Mechanics are a bit clunky but in a good way, oddly. Great concept regarding the theme. I've seen some similar ideas in 2D platformers but this 3D take really stands out. Congrats !

Chickie Catchers by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-10-09T15:41:11Z

Super cute and fun ! I like how the game is getting more difficult. Seems super hard to get 3 stars though ^^ Would be really cool I believe on mobile. One of my favorite entry :)

Bumpy Road by scottthoo 2021-10-07T07:56:36Z

Well done game even though it's not really my cup of tea. It sticks to the theme and it feels really polished overall.

Interstellar Highway Robbery by Corny 2021-10-06T08:05:01Z

I like the concept. It has a Role Playing touch I'd like to see further developed. Honestly, if it was multiplayer, playing with a team where everyone plays his role would be really awesome. Even though it has been said before, I agree that the lack of sound is sad. Though that's really the only thing I didn't like... Great work !

Alteration by ColinBellino 2021-10-06T11:50:08Z

Beautiful art and mood. Gameplay easy to learn and good learning curve. A nice puzzle game with a retro Zelda touch. Great potential if you consider adding more types of tiles and / or mechanics. Definintely a great game !

Karawan by Rongo Matane 2021-10-06T07:48:42Z

A really big congratulation to your team. I really enjoyed the mood and the gameplay. I am a boardgame lover and I really felt these vibes playing this game. The concept is simple but the difficulty curve is slowly getting harder. There's so much potential to this. I am glad I played it. Super inspirational to me to see what some teams have been able to make in just 72 hours. Would love to see this developed further.

The Flamingo Files by Sherwood 2021-10-09T16:23:56Z

@morcado, @ashtheevil, @sli Thanks for these positive notes and yeah, sorry about this issue regarding texts. We went for a very low resolution that we forgot that text would be almost unreadable. Next time we gotta improve on this :)

@sli, @junber Thanks a lot ! The art style and music really makes it unique. We really wish we had more time to develop a tiny scenario and at least 2 levels with a new tool and , but this being our first game together we unfortunately couldn't go that far.

Maybe we will consider developing it post-jam :)

The Flamingo Files by Sherwood 2021-10-09T16:25:38Z

@lucdeligne Thanks and I am glad you liked it ! You might be right about the main menu theme. Maybe it could have been a better fit to the main loop. We'll see post-jam if we decide to do so :)

Portals From Fire by Moandor 2021-10-06T13:02:59Z

Really nice game ! Felt pretty fun and entertaining to play. The idea works really well for a game jam and I wish there were different levels to make it more rewarding. Overall, gameplay, sounds and graphics are awesome !

Stars - Where they come from? by Tryus30 2021-10-05T20:15:13Z

Wow, speaking of visuals, that's a beautiful game ! I feel how far it could go based on the intro and the gameplay. Unfortunately I am one of those that find the jump mechanic a bit frustrating. Actually it feels like you took away something that makes a game playable. Which is fine regarding the theme. But maybe the mechanic could be developed a bit further ? Anyway, cool idea and great identity overall !

Tipsy Toddlers by Wyatt 2021-10-05T19:55:40Z

Very pleasant game overall. Graphics are catchy to the eye. Didn't even try hard mode, too much stress haha. Gameplay is easy to understand but because of the unstablity it might get a bit triggering. That being said, great work !

ŮNSTÅBLĒ by Dominium11 2021-10-07T12:31:55Z

Pretty addictive gameplay. Totally fits the theme. On another note I had weird issues with the sound getting noisy (like a white noise). Great game nonetheless !

ŮNSTÅBLĒ by Dominium11 2021-10-07T13:22:17Z

@kornel I think it is an issue with apple or safari. I just tried with another game and had the same problem. Nothing to do with your build apparently :)

HUN'S TABLE by thunderkerrigan 2021-10-06T11:34:19Z

Could be improved regarding the understandability of mini games. Sometimes I have no clue of what I'm supposed to do. That being said, that's a funny little game that reminds me the Monthy Python's universe.

//ex.it by thevinter 2021-10-07T07:49:27Z

Very cool oniric and mysterious mood ! I am not really in that type of games but it sure gives me a desire to finish it. Solid entry. Plus, the physic seems well polished honestly.

Neon Tower by Sli 2021-10-07T12:40:31Z

Nice concept and honestly a good game to relax and enjoy in casual mode. Wasn’t expecting this gameplay mechanic though. It was surprising. Worked great on my tablet but sound is getting noisy. I think it might be an issue with apple / safari. I’m pretty sure it would feel more open to a larger public with a carved wood style. Like kid’s toys. But the experience is really smooth and I didn’t find any physics issues, so well done :)

HONK III by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2021-10-09T15:57:03Z

Super polished and developed game (almost questionable considering the amount of time that was available 🤔😆) Honestly it is a great doomlike and it feels like it has a great potential. Though, not to be direspectful, it feels like this game was made during LD49 as a pretext more than it was made FOR LD49. (I wasn't there for Honk I and Honk II, so I'll give them a try ;) ) That being said, great game ! Honk !

MechaShift by MasterProject 2021-10-06T08:14:27Z

Honestly eveything I could say has already been said. Really interesting take on platformer games. Though I agree that there are probably one or two unnecessary mechanics. It doesn't help focusing on mastering the game. But overall it is challenging and I think it is rewarding. Which is probably hard to balance in just 72 hours. So great work indeed !

Unstable States by ELBIDEV 2021-10-05T20:02:05Z

You should consider adding controls on your itch.io page. I was kind of lost figuring out how to play or how long I had to wait before changing form. Though the concept might lead to something very fun to play and surprisingly interesting in a puzzle / platformer. I liked the monster's design. Keep up the good work !

Immortalizing unstable beginnings by Vhalenn 2021-10-06T11:56:51Z

Very immersive and relaxing. Though the HTML5 version didn't work quite well for me (fps drops in fullscreen mode, a feel of wrong mouse placement, F1 not showing inputs and sometimes inputs not properly detected). But besides the HTML5 version, it's a great game and perfectly fitting the theme. Well done !

ROBOKILL by E.E-Wick 2021-10-09T13:10:47Z

Incredible entry, very immersive game ! It took me a while to understand that you need to "eat" the dead bodies to reset the bloodlust. But once you get all the tiny gameplay details the game is getting super fun and addictive. Really good job, I'm impressed !

Crazy Cauldron by Quite Good 2021-10-06T08:31:11Z

Awesome little gem ! A bit frustrating sometimes, though rewarding enough to retry almost 10 times. This kind of games can be super addictive (in a good way) plus it is somehow educative. Game is polished, the mood is really well settled and the art is awesome.

The only recommendation I would have is probably to reduce the colors possibilities. Sometimes I thought I was far away from the color needed while in fact it was okay. And on the contrary, sometimes the color was slightly different enough to be wrong...

One of my favorite game so far !

The Auto-Analyst by chainsawmcd 2021-10-06T18:02:40Z

Meh. I mean... Ahem, you did it ! Seriously, I had fun destroying that auto-analyst. Great concept, intriguing story and nice touch of humor. Very cool game !
