LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Radiation by KunoNoOni 2017-12-06T01:06:43Z

Graphics are brutal, the background is hard to look at and the text is hard to read, I understand you are going for a specific style but the font is questionable and the color makes it worse. Cool concept and interesting gameplay. Computer would always take such a long turn.

The more hair you have... by Naca 2017-12-06T03:09:15Z

Great game, did find one thing. At the end when it says "The more assholes you have, the worst it is" worst is improper grammar and should be worse. Overall an interesting idea

Bob the conqueror by Thijs Tak 2017-12-06T22:03:17Z

The font is not the best and I think if you picked a better font it would have made the game look nicer, the graphics were strange but not bad. overall its a very interesting game that has a lot of complexity but is also easyish to learn, thanks to the tutorial. Also gameplay is good. Nice work!

Fuurbal by Zathnic 2017-12-06T01:23:47Z

Very cool that you made this in eclipse! Its a very cute little game.

M - (name is too short) by WetDesertRock 2017-12-08T13:22:47Z

The graphics are really cool, I love the the puzzle ish gameplay! Good work! Also I fixed up the shop button in my game Tiny Empires, so it is now playable.

Peregrine by ARuculaDoMal 2017-12-06T01:26:47Z

Very nice looking graphics, I love the risk reward mechanics

No Name Ninja Game by mooncalf 2017-12-06T01:31:05Z

Yeah its hard, the spin mechanic for me was just a use it and hope I hit someone. Also HOLY CRAP that death sound is horrible!!! Hurts my ears every time, music is nice though

Cheese Stealing Mice by gatinmnsok 2017-12-06T21:54:22Z

The theme isn't quite there. since the player doesn't really control how much mice they have it doesn't quite work because it isn't the more YOU HAVE, the worse it gets. Although it gets really hectic and its a fun little idea. The paw moved kind of slow and an acceleration might have been a better idea. Controls worked very well.

BeerFight! by happysloth 2017-12-06T21:26:14Z

Interesting idea, controls are a bit hard at first. Good work!

Not candy crush by eptwalabha 2017-12-06T00:50:12Z

Wow! This is an absolutely amazing game! The puzzle is super fun and difficult. I got stuck on the second level haha But it was really fun

Not candy crush by eptwalabha 2017-12-06T00:53:54Z

Me too

SpeedLock by DMajor 2017-12-06T22:13:39Z

I don't really see the connection to the theme. It is fairly innovative and I really like that the car has no speed limit, it made me want to see how fast I could get the car going. Nice work! Graphics and UI design need some desperate attention!

Carnage [ Board Game ] by Kerdelos 2017-12-06T21:49:21Z

A really awesome and innovative idea! It was lots of fun with my brothers!

Working Death by geck0 2017-12-06T02:44:39Z

I agree with that is said before. The attracting to people is a little much although it is a core mechanic, I suggest using large circles to represent their pull radius, this will make the game a bit more like a stealth game but with risk and reward. Should the player wait for the people to go away or should the player try to run through the ring of detection. Overall a very solid entry.

Gelatin Eater by Squatch 2017-12-06T01:56:45Z

Very glad that the theme didn't make you create an unfun mechanic. The idea of the more gelatin you eat the higher you jump but you could fall off, connects to the theme and is a risk reward mechanic. FANTASTIC game design

School Bus Simulator 2017 by mmason 2017-12-06T21:35:44Z

Audio is too loud, UI and Text was kind of simple/boring. A "I'm Stuck" button is kind of alarming. I didn't really notice the bus handling becoming worse, I felt that the bus had its brakes removed by the kids attached to its side. Overall is a interesting funny game but the gameplay isn't that fun.

Super Mailman by 0xDD 2017-12-13T00:41:19Z

Wow! This was an amazing and very innovative take on the theme, both categories, innovation and theme, were a 5/5. Even though the medals were obscuring my view I also was happy to get them haha. Puzzle mechanics were simple but man did I enjoy the medals. Great work!

@x-budsterized-x

I think I beat you...

Screenshot (33).png

Money Dungeon by Mathiouza 2017-12-06T22:52:11Z

Its a fun little game but it is not that innovative. I think some more mechanics would make it better!

crowglary by blackoptics8 2017-12-11T22:02:51Z

Its a strange game that doesn't really have a point, but It looks cool. How did you get all those grass things to react to player without destroying the cpu?

Household Helper by awerar 2017-12-06T22:09:16Z

Very interesting and creative game, the theme connects very well and I love the art style.

Asteroids Attack by Kutase 2017-12-06T22:17:01Z

I love the graphics style and the games roots in asteroids and I'm very glad to see you picked an appropriate font for your style! Good Work!

Malabar by roycocup 2017-12-06T22:29:06Z

Interesting simple little game, some more time on graphics would make it better! Good work under time constraints though!

No Coins Allowed by whooshy 2017-12-06T22:34:48Z

I enjoyed the game, the art style is really cool and different and the gameplay is pretty good. Nice work!

The Legend of the Bikini Armor by Sun-Wukong 2017-12-06T22:06:29Z

I really like the risk reward mechanic with the armour. Enemy fighting platformer isn't the most innovative BUT the character design definitely is, and the *graphics* were very nice, haha

Radioactive Cavemen by deathray 2017-12-06T03:23:46Z

Really fun little game! I made a base that welcomed both cavepeople AND mutants. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing haha but it was fun. One problem I had was that I could pan even when the pan tool wasn't selected. This made building difficult. Great game!

Slightly annoying traffic by JOrbits 2017-12-06T21:29:30Z

Looks good but It glitched out, I was playing for a few seconds and then the game just paused and the music continued I refreshed the page but now it wont load.

Give Me a Pound My Friend by KriskyD 2017-12-06T22:01:04Z

The theme connects very well although it is rather basic, because many other games also took the approach of the more ____ you collect the more enemies spawn. But the controls, mainly for driving, were clean. The beggers don't quite fit your graphical style. Nice font but it is kind of hard to read.

Wormhead by elemel 2017-12-06T23:06:02Z

The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is fun. Good work!

Escape the fans by AcsiD 2017-12-06T01:39:01Z

I like the bodyguard a lot :) fun game but its not very innovative. Good submission!

Adventures of Sir Eek O'Nommie And The Invisible Hand Of The Market by KafkaLovesYouy 2017-12-09T21:47:23Z

Charming little game, music is good, graphics are not very good but it is a compo so. Overall, not bad. Music is my favourite part and the idea is pretty interesting/funny

Grave Robber by DaragonGames 2017-12-09T21:43:16Z

Gameplay is nothing new, killing enemies and the more ____ you pick up the more enemies. It connects to the theme in a very interesting manor, the graphical style is not my favourite. Pretty good for Compo tho.

Aquariumus - Too Many Fishes ! by GoZz 2017-12-06T22:12:01Z

Really cool game! Theme connects well. I'm not too fond of the art style but the gameplay is really good. I like the complexity you were able to put into it, as a 1 man team I was unable to put too much complexity in my game. I think the game is a little daunting to beginners though with all the spells and buttons and stuff, but it is a management game so.. GOOD WORK!

The weighty island by frederikja163 2017-12-15T21:18:23Z

Noooo! Why why why!!!??!!!! The theme is the more you have the worse it gets. But why punish the player! Collect resources, but the more resources the more enemies or something. Why punish the player for playing the game! Slowing down movement feels horrible!!!

Its unclear which direction the player is facing, this can make the already really bad controls worse.

Graphics.exe is not available. Honestly though, please pick some better colors. I can see you are a programmer not an artist but do you have eyes!!!!

When walking into something the player jitters.

Invisible walls are horrible game design, just throw down some rocks that show the invisible wall.

Overall the game is pretty bare bones, there isn't much here that makes it different than other survival games and I don't recommend working more on this. Instead keep doing jams and keep coming up with ideas.

Sorry for shitting on your game, I'm not trying to be mean I want to help you learn. :)

The weighty island by frederikja163 2017-12-16T16:16:18Z

I admire your drive

@frederikja163

Six by CodeChomper 2017-12-08T21:23:26Z

Its a fun game, and the graphics are not bad, the idea has been done before, google did it the other day. But It was made in 3 days and it was fun to play so good work!

Quest for Harmony (Audio is required) by unfinished 2017-12-06T22:25:00Z

It wouldn't run.

My OS: Windows Computer is a Mac with really good specs. I was trying to play the WEB version and I heard some sounds but no visual and nothing happened. :(

L.A.V.A. series L.A.M.P. edition VS THE WORLD by kazuo256 2017-12-06T23:08:55Z

Really awesome game, I love the little character portraits and all the abilities and such. Really great work!

Guardians and Gems by Micahtron 2017-12-06T00:31:46Z

Nothing worked! The enemies didn't kill me and I couldn't pick up gems ;(

Identity by Kataware 2017-12-06T01:42:34Z

Wow, just wow! With a little more work this will be a fantastic game! Text font is a little boring but the particles are breath-taking

Chuckles, the Word Juggler by SecretPocketCat 2017-12-07T23:28:46Z

really fun game! I love getting tested on my fast typing skills right after LD! haha. I got a score of 57. It got so hectic after the words went from KEN to OAKLAND and I had to use keys from all over the keyboard. The graphics and especially the UI looks very clean and I really respect good looking UI, so kudos for that! While I was playing I got a lot of words like "RAY" "TYPE" and other things similar to that and it made me smile as I thought of a dev trying to cram some more words into the game before the deadline and just looking at their code. Good submission and great first published game!

Ricochette by Nathalia Hohl 2017-12-06T22:58:43Z

Simple but fun. I really like the take on the theme its very innovative. Good work

Problematic Ownage by dukeaccent 2017-12-06T21:57:44Z

Doesn't really make much sense that I get angry when my FPS is above 60, I love FPS above 60. This was an interesting game I think some better fonts would have made the game better and maybe a decluttering of the UI as its often that stuff is overlapped and cannot be read. Also as manbeardgames ran into, I also received a NEW CPU message but was maxed out on CPU.

Diving for Ludum by blunt 2017-12-06T23:07:25Z

Graphics style is really cool, and I like the UI. Gameplay is fun too. Good work!

Hell Venture Tycoon by healthire 2017-12-06T22:41:23Z

Couldn't play, I tried clicking on HTML 5 (web) but I got this

Screenshot (10).png

Maybe try uploading on itch.io

Marty the Hatted by PyrotheFlamy 2017-12-06T01:36:45Z

Interesting style. I have been seeing a lot of 'shoot the spawning enemies' games but this one takes it a few steps further with more mechanics like the different weapons and trade

Horny Bunny by Thomas FUentes 2017-12-06T02:52:01Z

Hilarious! Platforming was difficult at times (I was hitting my head on the very edge of a platform.

Critter Clutter by Burgee 2017-12-06T02:28:18Z

Awww not WEB GL :( Looks amazing though! Good work

Up Down by pres2300 2017-12-06T21:38:34Z

Connects to the theme, but the graphics are boring and the gameplay is basic. I see the connection to flappy bird like games but I feel that you should have spent some more time on the graphics. As a fellow solo LD'er and this as my first LD as well, I know it is difficult to manage time so I suggest doing more Jams or game making competetions to get better at it.

The Challenge by DWulff 2017-12-06T22:39:58Z

I really like how you used the theme. I love your idea of increasing difficulty by changing the level rather than just adding enemies like so many other games did, (Mine too, sort of). Of course art/graphics needs a lot of work and the controls could be better, but the gameplay and concept is fantastic.

Wonder Land by neowhoru 2017-12-28T23:26:37Z

Cool idea, I don't quite understand how it is at all difficult as you can just walk forward and complete the levels. Often I would get more than the required amount of things and the game wouldn't end (WEB). There are various graphic issues where there is a grass tile underneath the surface or things like that.

On the first level (Moon level) If you walk to the left you can just infinitly jump up the wall (not sure if that's a feature) and then reach the top of a wall, this is probably not intended but it would be cool if you had a little secret up here.

Screenshot (35).png

The Invasion of Robots by Swifttech 2017-12-06T22:55:30Z

Theme doesn't quite work here, since I am not getting more to make it worse, I am killing enemies to make it worse. Gameplay and graphics is rather basic, (I've seen ALOT of shoot the spawning enemies and collect a thing to make more enemies - games). BUT considering that you made the engine too, IN TWO DAYS! That is very impressive, so goodwork

Pride Before a Call by Carraka 2017-12-06T00:59:03Z

I couldn't get the game to load. But It looks really good based on screenshots!

Endless, Nameless by LeonLaci 2017-12-11T22:48:13Z

Really cool concept! It is really intresting and the terribles keep the game intresting, needs much better art though. After 4 terribles though I got a terrible called "FHT Gamer" or something close to that I didn't really see. But I couldn't move my character anymore and I couldn't ESC out of the game. Not sure if the ESC was a bug or you just don't have ESC to quit out as a feature but I had to WND-D. Strange bug but the game was cool. Maybe to make the game even better change up the actual level itself aswell, like move platforms etc.

Santas Unwanted Helper: Reindeer Revolution by ponker 2017-12-11T21:59:16Z

Cool idea but I think slowing the player because of the theme is a bad idea. It makes the game less fun, I think a better choice would be to add something to the gameplay which makes it more difficult rather than punishing the player for playing the game.

Space Miner Niner by jchaplin 2017-12-06T23:02:05Z

Game crashed when I destroyed an asteroid :(.

Broken Forklift by DeinVenteD 2017-12-06T00:19:35Z

Meh. Gameplay was ok I guess, I enjoyed balancing all the boxes alot.

Turbo Laser Arcade by Johnny Turbo 2017-12-05T15:02:52Z

Very fun game, enjoyed it a lot. I really like the arcade style. A thing about balance though: The $250 turret is by far the best. It shoots fast and is cheap. I ONLY bought it.

Cholesterol by MadreDeDios 2017-12-06T01:40:25Z

Very funny! Great Idea!

To the glory of the great North Korea by Jonasz999 2017-12-12T01:53:57Z

Just a quick note before I begin my review, you cannot make any balance changes or add any features after the deadline, you are only allowed to fix bugs.

WEBGL Version does not work. I got into the game and it crashed when I placed 1 defence, then I went into an infinite loading screen when I refreshed the page

I Then tried a windows version and I got this

Screenshot (32).png

I am using Windows 10 with latest hardware.

I based my review off of screenshots, If you can fix these problems, mention me and I will re do my review.

All Followers Lost by Tim Ruswick 2017-12-05T03:32:44Z

Fun and funny. Gameplay is somewhat boring/repetative after some time. Audio is awesome and hilarious. Good game!

Rush Hour! by Zachary Shah 2017-12-12T01:19:32Z

Umm I saw that you updated the game. You fixed bugs but you also said

music added arrow pointing to checkpoint

These are features, not bug fixes that improve the game. The COMPO has ended, you are not allowed to add features to the game. You need to supply a version that is the same game as your entry but with bug fixes only. You can also add the updated version but for voting, in order to not cheat, you have to have the updated version separate and make that clear.

@Zachary-shah

Also congrats on doing game dev so young, your last game you said you made when you were 12. This is my first LD and I'm 17 although ive been doing game dev since I was around 12 aswell It was not very serious.

Back To Shelter by Matcheryt 2017-12-07T13:38:47Z

The game had lots of trouble running on WEB GL. Not quite sure how the theme connects to it, but it has fantastic atmosphere, the lighting is especially good!

Kittie Reaper: A Depressed Cat Tale by jfraser314 2017-12-07T22:23:30Z

ITCH.IO version wouldn't load. :(

Green Chefs and Pancakes by MrAssassin 2017-12-06T01:18:35Z

Very funny! Like others have stated I cant see the theme in here and also graphics are kind of lackluster

Happy Bankrupt by Guillaume Noailles 2017-12-08T17:03:32Z

Seems kind of strange that it took you a full day after seeing the comments to upload a build... Not saying anything but that is what people who take extra time do. Game looks great.

Virus Detected by NotSpaghettiGames 2017-12-06T01:33:58Z

The font is pretty basic, gameplay is fun and the idea is really cool, this could be an awesome little game with some more polish and maybe add abilities of some sort to shake up the gameplay. Overall, pretty good. :)

Gold Mania by Re-Markable 2017-12-06T23:05:10Z

Fun little game, very glad the font isn't Arial haha. I like the risk reward mechanics with the gold but I think upgrades would have made it more fun.

Not You, the wizard by sjelm 2017-12-09T22:07:17Z

Cant run the game, rating based off pictures. The font is terrible and the graphics are bad.

Chaos Dart by Elodeon 2017-12-06T02:38:05Z

Fun gameplay, the theme is definitely a core element of gameplay and I agree that it needs a stamina bar. Very good entry!

Chaparrito's Adventure by Johnsey 2017-12-05T14:46:18Z

Fun little game. It was a little bit too easy but I still enjoyed it a lot.

Health Choice by DarkAnice 2017-12-06T01:11:07Z

Very interesting concept. This reminds me of playing stat heavy RPG where you need to create a build and trade off health for damage or vice versa. Very innovative, but graphics are really simple and need to be expanded on and should have been expanded on even tho its a compo.

Leaf Me Alone by Ryfi 2017-12-06T22:36:07Z

Really cool idea that connects really well to the theme. The UI needs some work but overall its pretty good!

Evil Money by interpol 2017-12-06T22:19:58Z

Fun game, I really enjoyed the stealth and robbing mechanics, definitely different from other games. It definitely needs music

Crosstalk by shinyogre 2017-12-06T01:20:48Z

Very interesting, I don't really find that the theme is quite prevelant. It is defiaetly a 4 in innovation

Smack`Em! by mess110 2017-12-06T21:42:10Z

Theme connection is great and this is a very creative take on it, I also really enjoyed the graphic style. I felt the controls were unresponsive though. Sometimes I thought I clicked on the mole but I must have missed the hit box. Anyways I think a more forgiving hitbox that maybe even extends farther than the actual hole would fix this feeling. Overall its a fun little game that is very unique. Good work!

Smack`Em! by mess110 2017-12-08T13:24:14Z

I've already reviewed your game, but I came here to tell you that the shop button was fixed in Tiny Empires, so it is now playable. If you want to give it another go Id appreciate that.

Super Trader 64 by WildGamut 2017-12-06T21:47:29Z

Very awesome style It really reminded me of fun times playing N64 games, I love the art and the game idea, of trading stuff, is really creative. Awesome work!

Runaway Magic by SerpentWorks Games 2017-12-06T02:14:22Z

Text and UI is rather simple, I suspect that you were rushed and had to make something quick haha. Its a very fun game and an intresting concept. Great submission!

Tycoon of the HighSeas by RelicTooth 2017-12-10T22:02:48Z

Really boring. Not my cup of tea. It needs some actual gameplay. Graphics are great.

Anxiety by Jean 2017-12-06T02:01:54Z

Wow this is my first LD too! Platforms were a little hard to see. Very innovative though, well, I'm just glad its not another shoot the enemies that are spawning game haha. I like the endless runner concept. I was going for a endless capability in my game aswell.

Overrun by Asellio 2017-12-06T22:21:42Z

Really fun game, but the text font is boring and is sometimes cut off. Other than that I really enjoyed it. GOOD WORK!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T00:38:31Z

@lhouyez Hey thanks for the feedback! I'm really happy with the wind sound, it was my first time EVER doing SFX, and for the camera, yeah I added inertia to it but I don't think it was quite the right move. @tthe Yes! I had the game board right next to me while I made it. Yes the costs was a thing a considered. I ended up graying out the button if you couldn't afford it. I wanted to avoid cluttering the UI but also displaying enough info. Yes, the troop moving twice is intentional but I have made changes which I will release on itch after Ludum Dare is over that let you do as much as you want (Building, moving ect) until you end your turn yourself. I will take into consideration Not letting troops be moved twice in 1 turn.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T00:55:00Z

@exezin Hehe yeah well technically there is no end goal. You can play FOREVER. I was planning to add randomly spawned towns that you need to move 4 troops to to take it over and then you would win

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T01:08:22Z

@mikomikisomi Yeah unfortunately there is a bug where the castle stops producing troops and the pirates defeating your castle is unintentional.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T01:43:58Z

@illabom haha Ive already played yours!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T01:45:45Z

@shinyogre Thank you, that means a lot.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T01:50:30Z

@bocodillo Troop movement advancing the turn is intended. Yes it does get easy as the AI is not very advanced but as you get rich more will spawn. Thanks for your feedback!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:07:09Z

@arya Thanks! Yes the game does get quite easy and that will change in future updates :). But hey, better too easy than too hard in an LD game, am I right? Haha

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:08:43Z

@jean Yes I know! I'm pretty sure I fixed the menu stacking of the info panels but the shop and info panel can stack and that should not happen. If the info panels were stacking I will take a look at this and fix it. Thanks for the review!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:11:23Z

@serpentworks-games Thanks! That's weird that no bricks had spawned (They are the brown tile) but they are all random so I guess the game felt like making bricks rare, haha. and yes I believe the best way to start is to build a bank and a village.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:22:57Z

@disperse I will work on it :)

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:24:01Z

@arculadomal Thanks! I'm also a fan of Catan and had the game and some pieces with me constantly as I developed

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:45:33Z

@elodeon Thanks!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T02:59:51Z

@deathray Thanks!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T03:13:14Z

@deathray ...OH MY GOD

I think you have won hahaha.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T03:30:08Z

@acnuker Thanks! Yeah as there really is no end you can play forever and the game does get repetitive. I will be updating post Jam

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T14:24:34Z

@meanmon13 Thanks! Im really happy so many people are having fun! And for the castle spawning bug I'll get on it when I get home today,I don't think I can update my Ludum Dare submission but I believe I can add another version on itch that is updated.

@gruhh Thanks! I'll be working hard to reach that potential.

@empiray Wow Thanks!

@srabatata Thanks!

@james-dunlap yes the castle spawning bug is known and I will be working it out tonight, I'll do some testing to try and get UI to fit better. Thanks for the feedback!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T21:18:36Z

@johnny-turbo Thanks!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T21:22:21Z

@Sherwood, yes it is a bit unclear. The more coins you have and tiles there is the more enemy troops spawn

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T22:31:47Z

@xahell Thanks! Yes it is way too easy. Ive you read the planned updates section of my LD page I plan to add a lot of factors that can make it more difficult.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-06T23:56:13Z

@awerar Thanks! Yes I will be working on that.

@lukuluk Thank! I agree, yes I am aware of that bug, it is because your troops, data wise are no longer there, but physically are still there.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T01:52:19Z

Hey @rasabi Thanks for reviewing my game! So I'm currently working on the post LD version and you said you got the troop bug. When and how did it exactly happen? Where the troops on a castle tile?

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T01:54:04Z

@team-infernos Wow! That's a lot. I will take that into account when balancing Thanks! The original reason and has them buy price = sell price was so people could build stuff at the beginning of the game with greater ease. I will change the balance of the shop.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T02:18:58Z

@zgragselus Thanks for the feedback! I have considered supply demand in the shop and probably will implement it, upgrading buildings is a great idea, and instead of forcing the player to move troops I plan to spawn objectives that the player needs to move troops to and capture.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T03:25:20Z

@arkthaohs. Thanks! After about 3 hours of working on the post LD version if got those bugs worked out, if only I got rid of them before! I will be definitely adding a lot more in post LD version including variance in the market, different units and upgrades and lots of other stuff

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T23:40:58Z

@alleskapaul Thanks! Yes I did take inspiration from settlers of Catan. Is it different? Yes. How much different is it? Not a lot. How is it different? I'm not sure, its a jam game so these more philosophical ideas haven't been a focus...yet.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-07T23:42:22Z

@west Yes that was a problem to Play Testers as well, I will update graphics making it easier to tell what gives what in post LD V. All Bugs have been fixed. 12-07/6:42 EST

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-08T01:59:21Z

@wetdesertrock PROBLEM FIXED! Thanks for telling me! You should try it again with the shop, its pretty crucial! :)

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-08T13:20:49Z

@indie-gaming Awesome! I will check it out!

@west Did you notice the bugs are gone? I learned you can update the game to fix bugs!

@solidtiger Thanks! I agree, I will in post LD V.

@king-kujito Thanks!

@mess110 Fixed! Thanks for telling me!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-08T16:58:33Z

@indie-gaming

I watched your video, when I uploaded the new version that fixed bugs I disabled the tutorial! Sorry! It tells the player what each tile gives. Also you never clicked on the shop button! You can buy and sell resources there!!!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-08T21:18:43Z

@indie-gaming Yes sorry didn't see that, thanks for your review though, the live reaction was really helpful. I will be doing balancing to make the beginning easier and the rest harder, as you've seen many others have gotten past the initial difficulty and then were fine.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-09T17:10:34Z

@almost Thanks for the feedback! I'll go in a try to get the screen size to work. 960 by 660, I'll try that. Yes the enemies are very dumb, in post LD I'll be making them build things and set up bases. Yes iron has no purpose, originally it was going to be used to upgrade your soldiers but I ran out of time. Yes the shop needs work and I agree with the icons, I've already added that in post LD version, I'll fix the popups in post LD. As for the wind sound, I agree, I can't make music so far a atmospheric sound I did that, in post LD version there will be different weather conditions which will change that sound, I will also get music made. I'll fix the unit clicking in post LD, thanks.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-10T01:03:49Z

@muffincookie. Wow haha! Yeah I'll have to fix that UI thing post LD, I'm not sure about troop bugs but I'll look into it. Yeah the fps thing is crazy I need to limit the particles and clean up stuff after a while. Maybe also limit the play area since it is infinite

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-12T23:04:52Z

@saramartins

I thought I did fix aspect ratio, did you go into full screen? Because for now it should work properly if you are in full screen.

Yes the sound is really quiet, I didn't want to ear rape people when they open the game and the sound quality isn't that good so making it quiet hides background noise.

I used a textmesh pro font for most of the stuff, but some of the fonts I used a text font pack I had because it took less time to set up that font when I was crunching.

Iron doesn't quite have a purpose. From a functionality perspective it doesn't do anything, I planned to have it used to upgrade soldiers but I wasn't able to implement this due to time, now from a design perspective it acts as a learning tool, players feel smarter and like they have a greater understanding of the game when they realize that iron isn't useful, this can lead to the player placing buildings that don't gain resources (castle and bank) on iron tiles.

Thanks!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-12T23:09:39Z

@racso

Yes those are my ideas.

The difficult curve is undesirable, I will address this issue in the post LD V. I plan to make the enemies spawn later in the game after the player understands the game and has a small empire, the enemies will also build settlements so they will be much more powerful.

Again spamming end turn is an unfortunate result of the difficulty curve.

Yes the game does need an objective, poor time management resulted in a failure to create an objective, I plan to limit the board size and randomly spawn Dungeons which can be captured to give loot, capturing 4 of them will end the game.

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-14T22:42:57Z

@daragongames

I agree. The game doesn't really get much more difficult, it should but it is too slight of an increase that it is unnoticeable when contrasted with the players growth in power.

Thanks for the bug report Ill get on it!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-17T03:39:27Z

@mrtroy

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions :), these are all things I think are great ideas and do plan to introduce.

@levreveur Yea the game desperately needs balancing. Yes I need to add a cancel move option. Thanks!

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-18T22:56:48Z

@ethan-kennerly

Yeah game is inspired by Catan, yes the bank is my addition among many other subtle ones. Not sure what you mean in your comment. But I suggest building a village and a bank first so you can earn coins and get resources

Tiny Empires by Jack Maxwell 2017-12-18T22:57:46Z

@gerardb

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it :). Yes in the post LD V. ill be adding a UI solution to this problem. Thanks for your review!

Really cool that you made it in VR. Very basic gameplay though

Slithering Secrets by meanmon13 2017-12-06T02:21:52Z

The theme is very well integrated into the game, the mood is awesome, the sounds are amazing (The breathing is too loud/constant, maybe have him more silent but start breathing more when enemies are near, the end screen sound is kind of loud but maybe that's just me and the snake sound was loud and hurt my ears. The mood was amazing. The controls were very clunky. I really do like the speed run possibility but I think this idea could be expanded on to make speed running more rewarding or exciting.

Cat Saviour: The Rain Is Coming by Pavel Smejkal 2017-12-06T22:47:47Z

Beginning cut scene took a bit too long. Graphics need some work, the jump felt weird. I love the sound effects. The puzzle gameplay is really intresting but the cats take too long to walk around to where I want and it is hard to figure out what I need to do. I couldn't get past the second level.

Also the slowing down of the character is really annoying, I know you were trying to relate to the theme but slowing the character is not the right way, I suggest doing something that makes the gameplay experience more hectic/fastpace/harder not something that makes it slower and boring.

Overall a good entry!

Panty thief by kwonmon 2017-12-06T23:10:39Z

Yeah ^^ Same problem, from the screenshots I think you could've really benefited from some better graphics

LD42 — Running out of space

Baggage Claim by mgoadric 2018-08-16T04:58:54Z

Theme fit pretty well but it felt kinda unfair, maybe 5 seconds is too short or I want more visual feedback, I cant tell. As far as my experience with the game, It is kinda boring, at least for me. I found myself not paying attention to the shapes and getting ready to match them, just clicking where I saw something light up. When i lost it felt pretty cheesy since there was nothing I could do but wait for my eventually defeat since I didnt move a bag earlier. Maybe an ability to speed up a certain carousel would make that better.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-08-16T05:20:13Z

Interesting game, not really that fun. I prefer more of a challenge but It was fun messing around with it. Your message was very clear. The art style was very cool and the whole game seems very well made and polished. Great game, just like your others :) good work.

I say this exact same game done by someone else in LD 40. Art is programmer art, game is generally unoriginal with the only new thing being the screen being covered which, like I said, Ive seen before

Ouch! by Zachary Shah 2018-08-17T03:50:31Z

Cool game, fits the theme well, although very simple. Congrats on third LD when so young. My first LD was LD 40 as well. It's great to see someone so young doing game dev in such a professional manor. Im only 18 but when I was 13 I was still just messing around and not finishing games since I really didn't know how to code.

The blue powerup which shrinks you can catch you off guard when you resize to larger since there is no warning when you resize and you could be close to the wall when you resize and then instantly die.

The green death wall hit box or maybe the player hitbox seems to be off. When i go near a wall the visual sprites shows there is still distance but I die. A good practice is adding some wiggle room, make the wall hitbox slightly smaller than the visual so players feel it's more fair.

The deceleration of the player seems to slow as I release the key but keep moving, this usually results in a death if i'm trying to be close to the wall. Maybe a personal thing but I prefer a more reactive control.

Great job!

@enchaec thanks for playing my game and leaving feedback, you are right I am going to get on that right now.

@kunonooni Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed my game and thank you for the feedback. Yes that's correct I had to cut music because of time and because I don't know how to make good music. I did consider a menu between levels that would wait until you clicked. I thought it would slow down the gameplay too much and seem out of place so I cut the idea, but I like your suggestion of a transition which wouldn't stop the gameplay but would slow it down for players to recover. Thanks!

@nam-nguyen Thanks for the review. The maximum points is +105, It really should be 100 but I add 5 to each score so people can get over 100 score when placing so the rainbow color is used :). The theme incorporation is that when you miss a tile you lose that tile to place buildings on next turn, until you have 0 tiles and you lose. So (as long as you miss) you are running out of space. Somewhat loose, but I think it fits.

Light Towers [WEB] by Jack Maxwell 2018-08-16T05:47:34Z

@aguahervida Thanks! Ill look into Bosca Ceoil, I didn't want to try to learn a new program in such a short time frame though. I was thinking about adding some particle effects and I definitely will when I polish the game after LD.

Light Towers [WEB] by Jack Maxwell 2018-08-17T15:48:35Z

@freezedice Thanks. I'll consider a low poly design when i polish the game.

@wejna Thanks. Yes I'll definitely be adding sound effects when I polish the game. I have heard that the controls are a bit tricky at first. I think Ill change the controls so that you press 1 button to change between the colors, similar to how you rotate a shape in Tetris.

@matank Thanks for the review. Im glad you enjoyed it. I like that idea of increasing difficulty based on how accurate you are, good suggestion. I'll look into the responsiveness of the keys. I think when i polish the game Ill add achievements or rewards for getting to a certain score, like 15,000.

Thanks.

Light Towers [WEB] by Jack Maxwell 2018-08-21T14:05:01Z

@shakedimus Thanks. I think music is a great idea and Ill add it when i polish the game more.

@mowztouch Thanks.

Light Towers [WEB] by Jack Maxwell 2018-08-21T14:06:30Z

@wildcard Ill consider making the colors more clear. I did expect that knowing which tile you are placing on would be confusing at first because of the camera angles but I didnt expect the colors to be unclear, so thank you for the feedback!

ShortServe by G4MR 2018-08-16T04:49:23Z

Fits great with the theme, Ive always liked those restaurant managment games and this one is no exception, its intense and the art style is good. Great work!

Sodaboi by Tony Redmer 2018-08-18T02:25:04Z

Fun gameplay, reminded me of old arcady minigames on the wii. Graphics and audio are amazing and the game fits the theme well. The movement of Sodaboi was perfect, it was sporadic enough to keep me on my toes but linear enough for me to get awesome hit streaks. I think its been mentioned before, but the cannon fire rate seemed strange, It was good when i got on a nice streak of hits, but I think that feeling of being on a streak could be instilled in a better way as to not confuse the player about when the cannon can fire. But Overall great work!

Screenshot (84).png

Postman by Bratr 2018-08-13T17:37:41Z

I beat it! Delivered boxes to 50 customers. The theme only really starts to fit once you get later on in the game where you have to push through or go out of your way to get where you want to go. The screen zoom effect was cool at first but made me feel sick and got annoying to look at after a few minutes. Didn't have headphones in so I didn't hear if there was any music or sound fx, I wont be rating that cat at all. Overall I enjoying the first few minutes but the game got annoying, maybe that's because of the screen effect or maybe that's because it was a bit repetitive (which is fine as long as there is some other activity in between the repetitive parts. Maybe after 10 packages are delivered you drive to the post office and bring a bunch back to give to the people again.

One last thing, I don't think its possible to lose. A timer for like 15 minutes would add more panic.

Scrap book: A doodle quest! by PunisherXA 2018-08-17T16:01:41Z

Graphics are really cool, the style is nice and refreshing. The running out of space mechanic is cool and helps increase the tension in the gameplay. I think more powerups that change how you shoot or different enemies would make the game better. Good job!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Creating Life! by Fersyvanderzee 2019-04-28T19:52:54Z

Screenshot (9).png

You can finish a level even if you run out of time. The game is too easy and is not fun at all, maybe thats because its too easy.

Im assuming art is placeholder

Overall, I dont really understand what the vision for this game is, maybe if you flesh out the game more and make it challenging it would work.

The main problem is that the gameplay is running from tree to tree growing them and if you just reduce time I dont see how someone could get better at the game to be able to complete it if its more challenging.

There just isnt any skill involved.

Also, this game seems a lot like your previous LD entry. The thing that made you last entry work better is the movement was hard to master because you needed to go fast since there is a timer but also slow because its space and youll lose control of you ship and run out of fuel.

This game needs something like that

Of course I know you still have 20h, im just reviewing this now since I saw it and was bored. Good luck! and good for you for competing in LD!

LD46 — Keep it alive

A Desperate Theif by Jack Maxwell 2020-04-21T17:44:40Z

@gallahron @nykolar @sergei

There was a null pointer in the UI that caused the second level to not be able to load. I went in and fixed that UI element so the second level can be loaded. The second level isnt much different than the first, but a key design of the game is the idea that you need to prepare for the next level.

Sergei, you also encounter the bug that happens when you lose. This is due to static variables, I'll fix this post jam but I felt that since it wasnt critical I can wait.

Also thank you to everyone for giving my game a play :heart:

The camera movement is really clean and its fun to figure out where to put turrets to kill the most spiders and not shoot each other. I found that i didnt really need to think about powering the generator that often though. Pretty fun!

Also, a little bug maybe?

LD59 — Signal

Gridlock by MaggardJosh 2026-04-20T03:58:51Z

I love playing simulation games and this scratches the itch. I like choosing which lights to set and watching the traffic be directed automatically. I wish there was different types of intersections and maybe more automation you can set up. I also found it somewhat difficult to click the light I want quickly. Of course I know this was made in 48h which makes it all more impressive. I'm particularly impressed by the car AI.

TRAPTOMB by fullmontis 2026-04-20T05:23:20Z

The signal effect is really cool and unique. I found I could spam the dash button to essentially fly but without doing that the game is a great mix of puzzle and platforming!

Cookie Signal by Kurakurture 2026-04-20T23:12:37Z

This was fun. Love the textures and specifically how you have the frames kinda wobbly like Courage the cowardly dog

Mini Mobile Network Operator by Stratcat66 2026-04-20T20:03:35Z

I really love this. Reminds me of factorio and War of Dots. I wish I could view all cell tower ranges at the same time to optimize my placement. Love how the procedural generation forces you to support a 'suburb' kinda distant sprawl but also consider the capacity of the dense areas

Fae'calling by BarnabeWild 2026-04-20T05:07:20Z

FINDER-1 by richjbaron 2026-04-20T05:19:22Z

I really love the way the world is presented to you in this narrow way. This has such a high degree of polish and it sounds great. Federal Bureau of Dance by drainkid 2026-04-20T23:06:52Z

This is really great. I love the idea and the music and mechanics come together in a really fun and good sounding experience. I like how you have to manage multiple aspects of the mix and dodging in the 3d space. It almost reminds me of sunset overdrive in the way how you are almost combo-ing the aliens with your mix. I would love if it was less focused on moving/aiming and instead almost snapped you to your targets when you hit a good combo. Great game!
