A fun and brain craving game. The objective is very simple, but still a fun game. The creator has taken inspiration from other games, and still has some unique features of its own.

Interesting and intriguing game. Simple yet fun, would recommend. Hope that someday the tutorial will be made into a full game.

Cute and simple game, very pleasing to play ! Nice entry !

Surprisingly nice game! In the middle of the game, I was thinking why the hell controller speed is very slow. The moment I unloaded I understood.

Once I got acclimated to the movements, there was something kind of zen about this experience. The sound effects and music went a long way toward that. I didn't really notice my player getting slower. In retrospect, I wonder if you can have an unlimited inventory, and that's how the player gets slower, but I assumed I was limited to five slots, so I strategically kept my items low. Anyway, nice work. By way, when you click on info for the stone, the description says "log" not stone - it has the log description.

frederikja163 2017-12-10 09:40

ty so much for the nice feedback guys, cubeeo ty for telling me about the stone and log description I must have missed that at the refining point

Played it to the end, and enjoyed it. As @cubeeo said, the game has a zen-like quality from the music and the joy of exploration. I do think that the game could benefit from some kind of threats that you could confront if you want to, or would at least have to avoid, like predators, swamps, traps, or hostile characters. I would also advice you to replace the sword with a bow, because that feels more appropriate for hunting. Other suggestions: add traps to catch animals, then finish them with sword (it's back!) or knife. Allow the player to wade into the water (distinguish between shallow and deep water), and gather clams. Add fish that you can catch with a fishing rod, a a spear, or with bow...

good idea) I think this is a great start for the future of the project)

Really nice game, Love the visual style :)

wakka2 2017-12-12 23:51

the interfaces worked and the audio is good. I couln’t find enough materials to craft beyond the pickaxe, what was the goal overall?

frederikja163 2017-12-15 19:04

@elemel ty so much for the awesome feedback, i will definatly keep this in mind... btw im designing a 3d version of this for post ld now so you can look forward to that game in a few years... :) @yohoho-games-2 like i just said, im working on a 3d multiplayer version right now, i hope i will see you playing the 3d version aswell :D. @cayleblucas ty so much im also so proud of the visual style since i made it all myself :D even tho many people dont realy seem to like it :P. @wakka2 ty so much, there is stone in the bottom left cornor of the island and if you had found that it would tell you, you need to craft a boat to get off the island.

It looks like a nice prototype for an interesting idea. I like the concept that the player has only limited inventory space and he/she has to figure out the minimum amount of stuff to carry. It brings some strategic depth to the game. I don't quite like that you make the player move slower when he/she carries more though, because this does not really do anything in terms of mechanisms but simply makes the player suffer. Overall, nice concept and I hope it can become a complete game some day :)

The BGM goes really well with the game.

jack-maxwell 2017-12-15 21:18

Noooo! Why why why!!!??!!!! The theme is the more you have the worse it gets. But why punish the player! Collect resources, but the more resources the more enemies or something. Why punish the player for playing the game! Slowing down movement feels horrible!!!

Its unclear which direction the player is facing, this can make the already really bad controls worse.

Graphics.exe is not available. Honestly though, please pick some better colors. I can see you are a programmer not an artist but do you have eyes!!!!

When walking into something the player jitters.

Invisible walls are horrible game design, just throw down some rocks that show the invisible wall.

Overall the game is pretty bare bones, there isn't much here that makes it different than other survival games and I don't recommend working more on this. Instead keep doing jams and keep coming up with ideas.

Sorry for shitting on your game, I'm not trying to be mean I want to help you learn. :)

satyre 2017-12-15 21:34

Nice start for a survival adventure game. Even though it was easy to play, you managed to create a nice atmosphere around the mining, forageing take. The balancing wasn't to difficult for me. Would like to see this game fully polished in the future. Keep it up!

bryceltaylor 2017-12-15 21:44

This feels like a nice start to a bigger game. I played it once and felt like I couldn't do anything. I didn't realize that the axe and pickaxe were different things, they look so similar in the shop and in your inventory. I went back and played all the way through, though.

Though making it so your inventory weighed you down fit the theme, I think going slower in this case made it slightly less enjoyable. There wasn't a choice to be made about how much you had to carry, you just needed to carry what you needed and that just made it take longer. If there was a reason that you might NOT want to carry everything in one load, I think it would have worked better. Like a rickety bridge that you would fall off of, or monsters that would get you if you moved too slowly, or something. I'm not saying that either of those things is the right thing, but something to make you think about what you should be carrying.

Good job over all!

@junjunlowpoly and @brycetaylor ty so much for the post ld game im not going to include the weight mechanic either so look forward to that :D. @satyr i would realy like to see this game fully polished aswell in the future so i am going to keep it up :D :D :D @jack-maxwell ty for the awesome and constructive feedback, i will keep everything you said in mind when creating the game, which btw i am going to do

jack-maxwell 2017-12-16 16:16

I admire your drive

I played the entire thing from beginning to end. I did enjoy the concept as well as a lot of the execution, and I have a few suggestions for moving forward, that I've learned from past Ludum Dares.

Having a visual representation of your next goal somewhere reminds the player what the need to do next. The player said "I should go talk to that guy." If I missed that message for whatever reason, there's no way to bring it back (If there is I missed it)

I don't think the car controls work for this type of game. Granted there were no threats coming at me, but doing a 180 to go in the opposite direction was annoying.

Text representation of how much weight is in each item. I never quite figured out how much each thing weighed, I just dropped all my tools and filled my inventory up with stuff and crawled back to the guy.

@frederikja163 I'm not sure if this is your first game or not, good job.

frederikja163 2017-12-19 16:17

@mrtroy ty so much for the so nice feedback, that is by far the best feedback i have gotten and as a special ty i will go play your game imidiatly after writing this :D, one of the main reasons i did the car controls is that i couldnt figure after 3 hours how to do my controls properly so i just did A and D to rotate and W and S to move, also for the weight numbers you just had to click the items and then info, almost like dropping. but yeah again, ty so much for the nice feedback 5/5

nekoballs 2017-12-19 17:41

Great little game! You understand what to do and the GUI is clear, nice with a small tutorial. The slowing mechanic felt a bit too punishing though. But other than that its a great base for a bigger game!

frederikja163 2017-12-19 20:56

@nekoballs ty so much for the awesome feedback i apreciate it and hope you will play the bigger game.
