Sorry for the late answer. I'm really busy these days. I totally agree with you all that pacing is one of the biggest problems with this game. I just did not have enough time to even think about a progression system or more balancing.
At one point I had kind of a health bar for the aliens, but for some reason I threw it away.
I was going for a very hard game where you enjoy living a few seconds longer every round and finding new strategies to delay the inevitable. But this concept would have been proposed a bit more to the player π. Again, no time. π Also the waves are too much random to compare different runs.
There are extra planets? π
I introduced the cooldowns to engage careful aiming and also to debuff the heavy weapon and the mines. But this was not enough to support using the light gun. A little bit more balancing would have been great.
