I had a bit of trouble figuring out what I was looking at early on, but on my second attempt I knew how to plan my towers a bit better and enjoyed what is a solid tower defense game. I think a bit of balancing would be helpful at least for the early stages, more money per kill and fewer or weaker enemies at the beginning.

darthnumbers 2017-12-05 03:14

I love tower defense games! VERY cool take on them. Wish there was music!

holgk 2017-12-05 03:15

I build a tower defense game too.

mrleeperry 2017-12-05 03:18

Good stuff, nice work pulling it all together!

merlin 2017-12-05 03:25

I played the WebGL version and it was pretty nice. Interesting concept to combine tower defence and shooter :) Sadly there weren't more levels :(

dssdiego 2017-12-05 03:30

Liked the first person part. Mouse was too sensible, though

kevinmolitor 2017-12-05 03:35

We're quiet motivated to continue upgrading the game after the Jam :) maybe more lvl to play in the future ;) depend on demands :p

infraxion 2017-12-05 03:38

Pretty good for 72 hours, but in the first person part it kind of defeats the purpose if you have a jetpack and can leave the road ;)

daneeh 2017-12-05 03:44

As someone who spent half his childhood playing tower defense games, I must say I like what you guys have been able to make in the past 72 hours! The game is challenging but well balanced, and the turret AI is a nice twist on the genre. It also looks nice in my opinion. The audio can get annoying when there are lots of turrets firing at once, but other than that I don't really have any criticism. Solid submission, I enjoyed playing! Good luck in the voting!

kramdar 2017-12-05 05:09

I really enjoyed this. I would have liked to see some more to do with the FPS part and I was itching to play more levels. As-is it could use a little polish and some more depth but if you expand it to include more/upgraded turrets and dress it up it would be a solid game. I'm interested to see where you go with this.

theloneplant 2017-12-05 06:57

Man I love tower defenses, I played them all the time when I was a kid. Great job and spin on the genre! It was interesting to plan an escape route. Some more hover and UI effects would benefit this game a lot. It was hard to tell when the waves would happen

grizeldi 2017-12-05 10:18

Continue button seems bugged and I have no idea how to get into FPS mode, but the game is pretty good. Glad our team is not alone in the world of 3D tower defense entries

seconddimension 2017-12-05 16:42

Hey I completed it! I like the idea of building defences that you have to fight back through, nice idea for a tower defence game. I think to really make it work you have offer the player interesting choices, like a tower that kills enemies way faster but is harder for you fight vs a weaker tower that you know you can get past easily later. It would be good to build up the levels too, so they start off a little easier. But nice job on getting a TD game finished

lookslikesomething 2017-12-07 19:50

I am a big fan of tower defenses, and I loved this one! I got some trouble with the FPS part, for the mouse was too sensible, but I managed to complete the game!

Love it. The controls in the FPS part was way, WAY to sensitive though. Not sure if it was a bug though.

ljay 2017-12-07 20:30

Yeah, TD part was fun! I've played 3 times before pass) But 2nd part was not so fun, I've just bypass all turels and win, it wasn't challanged. But anyway 1st part was great. Good entry)

Good job. I enjoyed playing your game. It's impressive how during the defense phase it has a kind of 2D (or flatter, birds eye view) feel, and then when you gotta escape, it goes 3D (first person). I had a little trouble with the shooting of the gun - frankly, I didn't know where I was supposed to shoot the enemies to actually kill them. But, then, I structured a defense in such a way, that would take this into account. So, my new strategy was going to be to run past the defenses, instead of trying to kill them. And, I effectively made it so I'd only have to run past one defense, basically; I could avoid all the others. And it worked for me. Thanks. I enjoyed this strategy game.

invixel 2017-12-07 21:29

I agree with what the other comments say, the sensitivity was waaay to high in the fps part. You could also fly, which i don't think was intentional (forgot the "if(grounded) canJump = true" ey :P?). Side effect was that i could see the skybox which was a nice easter egg. I also felt like the game could've used some music and a stronger connection to the theme. Phase 2 was so easy i didn't feel like tower placements did much, but stuff like that is really hard to know beforehand. With all that out of the way, let's move on to the good stuff. Stellar graphics and gameplay for something done so quickly! All the 3D models looked really good and very polished. The TD phase was fun (i think most game developers like TD games, we like strategy) and exceot fir the sensitivity in phase 2 the controls and accessability were really good (the ability to skip cutscenes etc.) Overall, a very good entry! Good job and good luck!

king-kujito 2017-12-07 23:34

Cool idea. The second half was too easy because you could just fly over the level but I like what you were going for :-)

spacemonkey 2017-12-07 23:46

I'll have some time this weekend to fix the sensitivity, sorry it took so long I should have done it right away! I didn't realize it was authorized for some reason.

Thank you so much for the great feedback guys ! My first LD was an amazing experience and it's also thanks to you. Great community :) We'll keep you updated.

spacemonkey 2017-12-07 23:49

Ho and the jetpack is a debug feature I left in there since there was no challenge anyway and it's so fun to fly everywhere!! Also gives you that easter-egg feeling right? Except if you think it's a bug I guess :D

saramartins 2017-12-11 09:13

It seems that you have an html5 link so I could try it :) Usually I don't play Tower Defense, but I was entertained and had fun. The models were cool, and the game ran smoothly and with quality. The dialogue system was really nice, although the first time a segment started, if I tried to click spacebar he didn't go to the next one, maybe because it needed focus?

Things started getting pretty chaotic when I thought I had a good chance, and more and more enemies came and started not being tackled in time by my turrets...

The particles were really cool, and best seen on FPS mode. Also, strangely cool combination of game genres. I started running around not knowing were should I escape to. I went to the middle exit on the other side of the map, dunno if all of them worked? But it would be nice to have the escape possibilities noted, I didn't really know what I was doing. Also those damn turrets, I bought you! :P

I accidentally discovered I could fly when pressing space bar to try and jump... nice xD

Overall really nice game, solid entry, pretty polished and good looking. I don't know if see the theme connection, as a Tower Defense game always has increasing enemies, which is never good lol. Great work :)

grl 2017-12-11 09:21

Awesome! But one note: in menu has too many objects, so it hangs a little

the-shadermaster 2017-12-11 09:51

Nice game! Fun to play

spacemonkey 2017-12-11 10:10

@saramartins Thanks for the great review! I didn't think of that space bar for dialogs to be honest, I'll make sure to fix it post-LD. "I accidentally discovered I could fly" hahaha best way to put it :D I'm glad you had that feeling! The feature is so cheap but it can have some effect ;-) The theme connection is that the more turrets you buy in TD, the worst it gets in FPS escape. But it's hard to feel because we didn't have the time to develop the FPS gameplay enough. But we can't stop there, we WILL make it work post-LD and make more levels.

@grl Thank you! I'll disable useless game objects, hopefully that will fix it.

@the-shadermaster Glad you had fun ;-)

fangzhangmnm 2017-12-11 10:15

Modeling is excellent, intro is imaginable

amras0000 2017-12-11 10:19

I like the idea, though I feel like you might have spread yourself too thin building two game modes. The FPS segment had jittery controls (in the webGL version anyway) and was pretty trivial since I could out-range all the turrets and wasn't locked to the enemy paths. The TD segment wasn't particularly gratifying either, since the turret and enemy variety were limited and outside of placing turrets I had very few strategic options.

My first run of the game, I didn't realize enemies would be coming from more than one direction so I built up defenses around the first entrance and wasn't able to do anything at all to save myself from the second wave. I learned my lesson and the second run went much better, but I wish the multiple entrances had been better signposted. Maybe start the first wave with enemies coming from all sides.

The game's very busy visually, which didn't help the multiple entrances issue. Every structure and enemy are the same shade of blue, the ground is very noisy, the skybox seems unrelated to the game, there's unusable turret slots scattered all over. I think with the simple mechanics the game would have benefited from a much more minimalist graphical style, polished to make something a bit more coherent.

I ended up completing the game without too much trouble, and the menu worked a bit differently than I'd expect. Continue would throw me back into the completed game (normally I'd expect it to start a new level). Quit didn't work in the webGL version but that's to be expected. I ended up just flinging myself off the map since you gave me that option.

It's not a bad game overall, and it shows that you put a lot of effort into it. I just think you could have focused that effort to make something simpler, but more coherent and polished.

spacemonkey 2017-12-11 10:37

@fangzhangmnm Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed ;-)

@amras0000 Very good and honest review. I must say I agree with you 100%. Also you pointed out problems almost nobody mentions, like the fact that visually it's a bit overloaded. Also you say that the skybox is not related to the game. Now that you said it, it's true it should be more obvious that you are in a kid's room playing with toys, and not in a "real sci-fi game". Not sure how we'll fix that though, we'll have to figure something out. And next jam we'll try something simpler ! This was too big of an idea for just 72h. Thank you for this constructive review, it helps a lot.

goncalo-monteiro 2017-12-11 11:07

Quite complete, but I'm not sure if the FPS part fits with the game, models and gameplay were as expected, could use music and better sfx. Great entry

unfinished 2017-12-11 11:33

Nice game! I had a lot of fun playing it. I like the idea that you have to pass your own turrets at the end. This could lead to new strategic decisions like where to leave a quite weak lane for yourself. Maybe I would force the player to stay on the lanes in the end. I could escape my punishment too easy by walking off the road. Although this is another degree of freedom, I think it is not necessary and the game would be more "planable" for the player, if one has to stay on the road to escape in the end.

Overall a great entry!

wrexialmt 2017-12-11 12:53

Cool game, i like fps/td hybrids they're generally cool enough to be entertaining, but in a game jam, you guys are crazy! Tried to do too much and imo you missed the mark on both ends. TD could've been better implemented maybe with some better controls and less "choke points". FPS was "meh" at best, imo it was too easy. Also fps shouldn't have allowed us to go off track that felt a bit "cheaty". Insanely great effort for a jam and nice end result, but it could've been so much better if scoped accordingly :)

adroitconceptions 2017-12-17 03:45

so... was really easy to complete the FPS part... walk off of the 'combat area', walk around and exit.

kevinmolitor 2017-12-18 17:37

If you want more challenge then you can decide to follow the path. We want at the beginning to avoid for the player to be "stuck" on the roads, and let him explore all the map at will, if he wants to . This feature will be removed since the majority of players seems to ask for it. 🙂 Thanks for reviews everyone, it's a great experience to participate at LD and see soooo much reviews on our game! We're upgrading it in the shadow to release a more finished and fun game after the LD40 ! So keep an eye on us 😛
