LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The Rubber Robbery by TheMadStrauss 2017-12-07T06:14:10Z

This is the favorite one I've played so far! Loved the funky music and great art, and the gameplay went along really well. I wish the player was a bit faster, and it felt like the ball should also have been pixelated. Also, the text was a bit hard to read, being black text among all those details - I think it could have been more effective if it was a pop-up dialog/bubble which displayed the text all at once. Really awesome overall!

The Catnip Sniper by SkullPixel 2017-12-08T06:55:27Z

Very cute and plays well! Solid art and audio, I was a little confused though as to the overall goal of the game - was the counter at the end how many cats I angered? I wasn't really sure what I was playing towards the whole time - closing the doors, or shooting lots of cats, or just staying alive as long as possible? I think some more UI feedback on this end could have been helpful. Love the small details like the screenshake, and the angry cats rolling is adorable!

XenoNanny by icxon 2017-12-09T07:21:39Z

Such cute and polished art! I like the creature animations alot too. I think the base gameplay of throwing the creatures to interact is clever - but it was also really easy to kill them, especially in areas with open pits, so I found myself empty handed in some of the levels. I also had trouble aiming them sometimes, maybe if they had a slight homing force towards interactables? Some sound effects would also make a big difference. Awesome game!

Save the Hats by Gruhh 2017-12-07T04:57:45Z

Cool mechanic and I love the cute little story at the beginning! It took me a bit to figure out that the bar at the bottom was for balancing hats, especially when I only had one or two hats. I really love the feel of throwing and catching the hat though, especially with the red ring feedback for catching. I think more visual feedback could be useful for clarifying losing the hats, especially when there's a lot of other stuff going on. Very cool overall, nice game!

Radioactive Rumble by weeping-rupee 2017-12-08T07:07:48Z

Love this game, one of my favorites for sure. The art is fantastic, and it has a really great blend of QWOP and old school vibe gameplay which works really well. I didn't really realize what all the bars at the top were until my second playthrough though (didn't read the instructions closely) and assumed more gloves were better, so I was just mashing all of them and wondering why I wasn't punching. I wonder if there's some way to incorporate the UI more tightly into the characters? I like the slipping being mapped to the left and right mouse buttons as well, that felt really good!

EARTH BLOSSOM by Zarkonnen 2017-12-07T06:34:11Z

Super creative concept, and I love the control scheme! Nice application of the theme as well, the timing aspect is definitely interesting. Also, from the description, I didn't realize there were multiple levels, but thought it all took place in one big level.

Elden by red-fan-games 2017-12-10T03:19:41Z

Very unique and awesome graphics - I think some more attention to the level design/user experience would really solidify the game, such as ramping up the enemy health over time (I wasn't sure if the big guys were invincible at the start) and making it so the player doesn't spawn with an enemy behind them. Also, maybe some torches could help with marking the edges of the map so falling off the map doesn't feel as random, especially since speed plays a big role in the movement. Really awesome overall!

... by exezin 2017-12-09T08:27:55Z

Hilarious game, wish I could actually beat the first level :sob: Awesome that this is a custom engine! Really dig the cute minimalist art too.

Slightly annoying traffic by JOrbits 2017-12-08T05:49:56Z

This is so simple and awesome! Love how unique of a take it is on the theme, and how well the whimsical art and music work together.

SUPER COP HERO by Finlal 2017-12-07T06:20:33Z

Great art and concept, funny and well executed. I do think the game itself is difficult to actually play, so I think some gameplay tweaks could really help!

Six by CodeChomper 2017-12-08T05:42:58Z

Cute robot model, I like how he has a lot of character  Nice puzzle mechanics, great implementation!

Coastal Postal by dom 2017-12-07T06:46:57Z

Sweet interpretation of traveling salesman! I really liked the art style and music - they really conveyed the homey island feel. Thought it was a bit confusing that you could cross back over small sections of roads, even though you couldn't pass the same stops again. Maybe to move through the map, you could actually just jump right between different nodes, since they're on a grid system anyway?

TetrisTank by shrekshao 2017-12-06T06:11:20Z

Really cool! I really like how satisfyingly snapping together the blocks is, and how the machine has a mind of its own after assembly. I think some basic sound effects would add alot, especially once you start stacking more and more pieces. Also, would be interesting if the player could alternate between stacking blocks and controlling the machine - I sometimes forgot to spawn more blocks because I was watching the tank after building it.

bullets by lunarDust 2017-12-06T06:28:46Z

I dig the color palette and art style! I think sound effects would really add to the game as well. Nice work!

Tic-Tac-Matrix by Antti Haavikko 2017-12-09T03:59:56Z

This was a real brain twister, sweet concept! Definitely looks and sounds fantastic for only 48 hours, I wasn't really able to actually calculate the matrices in my head but hats off to anyone who can  I also didn't realize after the introduction that I was supposed to face off against the guy on the right, so I was trying to get a correct solution for a few minutes before just choosing a random card. But really awesome job!

I wonder if I had a younger sister by fangzhangmnm 2017-12-07T06:57:10Z

This is super cute, I like the dialog and story a lot. The dialog progression did feel a bit slow, and I feel like some simple sound effects would have been really helpful. Overall really sweet though, nice application of the Undertale gameplay!

Horny Bunny by Thomas FUentes 2017-12-08T05:57:14Z

Super funny bunny art, very very unique take on the theme :joy: Movement felt very hoppy, only thing is that some of the gaps felt a bit far and it was hard to jump and hit the mushroom to do the far jump.

Go-Ned Re-education by devmax 2017-12-10T02:52:06Z

Love this concept, the TV model/screen reflection and the ambient music really nailed the setting for me. The sound effects are hilarious too. I think it felt a bit unfair walking down the hallways where the enemies were shooting bullets down before I could see the enemies themselves (or knew that I could shoot down the bullets). I think the claustrophobic map definitely helped with the gameplay as well. Nice work!

Chaos Cell by hoogmin 2017-12-08T04:05:46Z

Nice concept! I dig the defensively oriented gameplay, I can see it being really compelling with some more polish around the gameplay. I definitely think limiting the map would make a big difference, and give you more control over the difficulty of the game through enemy generation and level size.

Endless, Nameless by LeonLaci 2017-12-08T04:43:36Z

Very nice! I like the core game and level progression, I would have preferred to play the set of levels one after the other, with the side option to disable the terribles. I thought the puzzles had good variety though, and liked that it centered around one same level.

Desert Express by TerraPass 2017-12-09T08:15:52Z

Nice game! I enjoyed the art and music, and the game itself had a fun mechanic and setting. Some notes I had were that the ability to click really fast and basically clear out everything made it a bit too easy - maybe something like shoot, then a reload delay + sound? Then you could adjust the number of bandits down in turn, to make the shooting more deliberate rather than gunning them down en masse. Also, the shooting sound effect felt a bit overly artificial and distorted to me. Really like it overall though, very cohesive and enjoyable!

Bounce House by Steven Adams 2017-12-06T04:03:20Z

Love the pixel art and sounds! Very satisfying to play, I think some delay in the attacks and acceleration/deceleration in the dashing would make it even more challenging and satisfying.

Skulls n' Ladders by arly 2017-12-07T20:45:01Z

@antti-haavikko Thanks for the comments, I really like the stun suggestion! I think that would have been a better fit given how the game ended up becoming more of a fast-paced juking game.

Goonisher by aaforcebox 2017-12-06T06:16:12Z

I thought the core game loop of exploring the cave and dashing through enemies was really satisfying and fun! I think it would have been more effective with free movement rather than tank controls, with the camera just trailing behind passively. Also, I exited the cave at the beginning and had to restart to play the game, but I wasn't sure how to end the game after actually playing it. The enemies didn't seem to hurt me, and I didn't actually realize the shiny items were collectibles at first. Really cool though, love the screen shake as well!

Level Onslaught by OrciFried 2017-12-09T07:58:50Z

Slick game! It's has a very cohesive feel to the animation and gameplay, I had a lot of fun battling the different skeletons. I thought the enemy attacks were a bit too instant, a very slight windup would have helped alot. The music also fits very well. One of my favorites!

Castle Diorama by Abuki 2017-12-07T07:05:35Z

Wow, I love love love the art style and game/interactions! Some thoughts I had were that if you click and drag without there being anything interactive, it shouldn't turn into the hand icon. Also, the music did feel a bit off at the beginning when it was only nature - maybe if it started off more peaceful and melodic and transitioned to the more medieval sounding theme as you progressed? The wolves were also a bit hard to find. Overall, one of my favorites!

Bobby's awful idea by Drakncel 2017-12-07T06:07:35Z

Very nice art style/lighting combining 2d and 3d! It was a bit confusing that some of the bubbles weren't interactable, and I would have liked if Bobby was faster than the partygoers to make the game a little hastier. Maybe he could even run around and have the ability to knock things over so you'd have to be more careful!

Catamari by Kieran Newland 2017-12-08T06:47:30Z

Super cute art and funny concept. I think it would have been interesting to play with scale and differente dible objects like Katamari, and have the cat start eating everything in sight as it got bigger.

Mo' Gold, Mo' Dragons by tvance 2017-12-07T05:02:51Z

Very fun and simple idea! Overall it felt very enjoyable to play, but I think the metric of needing to get the last gold piece could be different - otherwise, it feels like more of a waiting game. Also, I had a moment where I started the game just as the bass in the music track dropped, which would have been awesome if that was actually part of the game.

LOCOPLAYA by goxua 2017-12-06T06:25:24Z

Funny concept and art, the music fits well too. I liked the game idea and buff character models - I think it would have been even more effective if there were responsive effects/audio which reacted to the players scoring and pushing the balls. Also, the transition animation between running/dashing was a little jarring. Would be really fun with two (or more!) people

LEAF WARDEN by MarkoPoloDev 2017-12-08T03:57:12Z

Nice art style, super fun to just sweep the leaves around. As a design/UI thing, I didn't realize the bar at the top was how many leaves there were before you lost (without reading the description) - maybe a different color scheme might be more effective? Also, I really like the art but I think one thing that might make it even more solid is if you standardized the pixel size across assets, so they feel like part of the same world. Otherwise, the various layers feel a bit disjointed. Very fun overall!

Lose weight by kingswind 2017-12-08T05:30:18Z

This is hilarious! Love that the bird farts, great improvement to the Flappy Bird formula. Simple and fun!

Mortal Komba by kokirisandfriends 2017-12-09T22:30:30Z

Graphics are so cute and polished, makes the game feel very complete! I liked how much personality the different characters had, and that you had to use different keys on the keyboard together. I did feel like regardless of their jump height though, if I timed their jumps at the same time I was able to clear the rope anyway. Great use of the theme!
