Go ahead, tell me its too hard.

formalcloud 2017-12-05 22:26

It's too hard. :P - Actually it is really awesome. I love the concept here, good work!

kataware 2017-12-06 03:16

A nice fun little game. I really enjoyed the art style, reminded me of a game from the 90s i think. Nicely done in the alloted time!

cxsquared 2017-12-06 03:25

Really loved the art and the idea behind the game. Really nice work.

sorlok 2017-12-06 05:13

It's fun and clever, and does a great job with the theme. Love the little additions, like the opponent's tells and the Game Over screen. More arms is AWESOME though.

weeping-rupee 2017-12-06 05:23

sorlok-- more arms is kinda awesome except you run outta stamina real fast. Its definitely easier with like 2-4 arms I think.

daveroony 2017-12-06 05:26

Nice sound effects! clever game

keppu 2017-12-06 05:28

Really intense! Good fit for the theme. Graphics are kinda ugly, but they do their job. I ran into bug where the enemy kept running out of screen.

sorlok 2017-12-06 05:28

@weeping-rupee - Ooh, so *that's* why I ran out of stamina.

jfraser314 2017-12-06 05:30

Very cool art and I love the sound effects. Arms got added too fast for me to keep up with what key controlled each arm, but that is probably more my problem than the game design.

beanslasher 2017-12-06 05:32

I really like it! It is really fun and it is a good stress reliever! Haha Great Job, one thing the enemy did run off the screen once but it only happened one time. Amazing Talent! :)

cubeeo 2017-12-06 05:56

I like the look of it. Your screenshot there drew me into the game. Unfortunately, even though I played easy mode, I did not survive long, so was not able to enjoy your game for long. The second time I played, I thought I was gonna beat the guy, it seemed like I had him down to a sliver of life, but, alas, I was no little Mac. :(

kyle-pham 2017-12-06 06:23

This game is a really strong contender. Really innovative game design, good audio, really fits the theme, and extremely fun to play. The only suggestion I could make is that to make the buttons near each other, going from aqweds to op or n is too hard.

stratoskakalis 2017-12-06 06:28

Really fun game! I have to say that the idea is very creative and in a game jam when time is limited for execution the idea is very important which makes this a very good submission.

thristhart 2017-12-06 06:46

Very creative! Love how this looks and works with the theme.

pkenney 2017-12-06 06:57

Oh man, I ALMOST HAD HIM on hard! Lot of fun, after I figured out the basics (like aiming with mouse fer instance). Maybe three fights, then I was able to take him on easy, tried stepping it up to hard but just kept losing.

I was so bad at dodging... and then it felt really disheartening when I was hammering space to get back up and he was standing over me rapid-punching the empty air my head was about to move into, like YO REF THAT'S CHEATING! Then I looked around and realized... shit, there is no ref in this fight.

Also wasn't that good at punching. (Who talked me into this fight anyway?!) The mouse aiming is a cool twist on the original, but I never felt locked in. I think that's somewhat as designed: clearly the arms are intended to make the controls feel awkward.... a fine line to walk design-wise but I think you pulled it off here by having the right humor about it.

Doc told me to use shift to activate star power but I never got it working. Sure would have loved to whirlwind all those arms at his ugly face after all those beatings. https://imgur.com/a/qAxSX

Great entry, lots of personality! Really enjoyed it.

neecko 2017-12-06 07:12

I love punch out so I was immediately drawn in. Really fun concept and I enjoyed playing it. Sound effects were a really nice touch.

happygreenfrog 2017-12-06 18:38

There need to be more Punch Out clones. Just sayin'. :)

amir-bayareh 2017-12-07 01:41

It is hard.. if you have only two arms but lucky me I was born with 5 so I could control the arms pretty well! hahaha no, but really, it is an amazing game! I loved the retro touch and how you evolved punch out! Nice job!!!

solluxx 2017-12-07 01:55

Haha great entry. One of the more interesting games I've played so far. Would have loved to see more opponents. Punch-out's twisted child in the best way possible.

weeping-rupee 2017-12-07 02:14

@solluxx

Yeah I REALLY wanted multiple opponents and actual rounds (although I think the combo Cuphead style see-how-close-you-got game over screen is a good work around for not having real rounds)

I normally have a team of 4 artists/coders who do these with me but this time it was just me and my artist Jeff so it was a real crunch just to get this done.

pkenney 2017-12-07 02:23

Heads up man, this being submitted in the compo means it was done alone, whereas teams are supposed to go into the jam. Sorry if I misunderstood your comment there. No big.. unless of course if you win! Obviously what really matters is that you made a great game in two days but I thought I'd mention it for next time.

weeping-rupee 2017-12-07 02:34

@pkenney

Oh shoot I DID actually know that, I just mixed the things up.

I assumed it wouldnt let me submit to compo bc its only 48 hours, no?

Anyway I just switched it over to jam, my bad. Thanks for the heads up I never woulda realized that.

pkenney 2017-12-07 03:39

I like ya style, here's an 8-minute FRAPS rip of yer game kicking my ass:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILJZprKm24c

Not my peak performance, but not that far below typical. First two fights on hard, rest on easy. That second easy fight, I woulda shoulda coulda but my hand landed on home row instead of WASD and it took me a few moments to figure out why I wasn't punching.

In retrospective viewing, perhaps I ought to fight at a more measured pace.

weeping-rupee 2017-12-07 03:40

@pkenney this is super awesome-- the saddest part of LD is not actually getting to see most people (except my fiance and my 5 year old) play our game. Seriously, this is great :)

First thing I'm noticing is people must have vastly different quality keyboards as its crazy the difference in speed some people can press to get back up.

And yeah the strategy is to wait and take your opening and fight more "measured" as you said.

Actually you do a better job than most of this. The one other guy I saw play was just SLAMMIN the keyboard always runnin outta stamina.

banan 2017-12-07 06:17

Very fun game. Took me a while to beat it on medium. A very solid take on the theme. The core mechanics are really good for the most part. The exception is those times you punch and it looks like your hand is just flying through your opponent. Apart from that it felt great. The dodging is really satisfying once you get the hang of it. One problem I have with the game is that it's too random. It feels like some matches your opponent is just standing there giving you a free victory and other times he just won't stop punching. Since you only have one opponent this might be good for making the game feel less monotonous, but it takes away the joy of victory when it's just randomly handed to you.

weeping-rupee 2017-12-07 13:36

@ banan

good solid feedback-- and I mostly agree.

There is a randomness to a lot of his behaviors that makes some fights more interesting than others when really there should be more of a pseudo randomness to it where he switches his behaviors dynamically based on what you're doing. If i make a full game out of it this is the route I'd take but for the purposes of an LD I had to use true randomness in most cases.

roaring-cat-games 2017-12-08 01:57

This is fantastic. At first, I was having a blast just spamming punches, THEN i got it. THEN I realized how bad I am at it lol.

- Great concept - Great Mechanic - Great setting/characters

- Very difficult to grasp - Sometimes you just can't punch because your gloves are all overlapping - I could not figure out how to properly dodge, no matter how hard I tried (I'm pretty bad at punchout anyway)

Nice work!, I had funnnn.

arly 2017-12-08 07:07

Love this game, one of my favorites for sure. The art is fantastic, and it has a really great blend of QWOP and old school vibe gameplay which works really well. I didn't really realize what all the bars at the top were until my second playthrough though (didn't read the instructions closely) and assumed more gloves were better, so I was just mashing all of them and wondering why I wasn't punching. I wonder if there's some way to incorporate the UI more tightly into the characters? I like the slipping being mapped to the left and right mouse buttons as well, that felt really good!

nahual 2017-12-09 23:00

I like the style and Idea of radioactive chracters is good too. It fits theme perfectly! :) Good job! :)

peachtreeoath 2017-12-10 07:37

This LD I've been loving the games that allow people to intentional "get worse" just so they can see how crazy it gets. They know us players can't help ourselves in that regard, and your game is one of those haha. I loved seeing how crazy my character could look and the game itself was a nice throwback that made me resurrect some old skills. Great theming too, I can now look forward to our post-apocalyptic future if I get to have 8+ arms to flail around!

icxon 2017-12-23 19:03

It's impossible for me to hit space 120 times in 10 seconds  But was able to beat it on medium difficulty.

I've got a couple of bugs: 1. Audio is disabled sometimes. 2. Enemy goes bellow the game screen in some cases.

I feel a lack of ability to move the character (at least horizontally), but I love multiple consequent punches that give blue stars -- that's really satisfying.

Also, why the main character is not an octopus? :octopus:

I'm a big fan of Mike Tyson Punch Out, the nostalgia was flowing. The game was a bunch of fun as well. Felt it stuck to the theme real well. No real complaints, but I do wish there were more mutants to fight! Great Job!

oxysoft 2017-12-28 02:23

Funny game, HIGHLY innovative, but unfortunately not executed very well. The controls were awkward and the mouse cursor was very difficult to see. Actually, at first I didn't know I had to aim with the mouse so I was trying to figure out how to hit the bad guy. I thought I had to time my punches or something.
