LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Micro Trooper by Split82 2017-12-06T00:16:45Z

I really love the knock back effect when you shoot. I also like it how the ghosts just get so much faster and more annoying when they loop back. Really good audio. The black and white theme is good for your ghost theme. The game fits the theme quite well. The only thing I would suggest is to add a new feature because the game kinda gets boring over time. But it is still addictive though. Definitely had fun playing this game.

Splotch 2 by Sebastian Lague 2017-12-08T00:05:35Z

Really interesting game. The graphics are really simple but effective for a game like this. This suits the theme fairly well because I tend to mess things up with more walls. Really fun game.

P.S I really love your Youtube videos. One of the best game development Youtuber.

Cherry Creek by SecondDimension 2017-12-06T21:23:26Z

This game is so complete. I completed the ridiculous mode, and it is really RIDICULOUS. I was going to comment that there should be a pause button but you even made it. Really complete game. The audio really calms you down. I like the little details in the game where one of the cloud has rain under it. The only suggestion is maybe to change some of the "cut-off" houses for the graphics. Overall, excellent game. I really enjoyed playing it.

XenoNanny by icxon 2017-12-08T23:54:10Z

Really good game. Really nice graphics and audio. It's a little bit weird because I feel like scene 3 is the hardest. I finished the whole game. My suggestion would be to make the game even harder.

A Stack of Gifts by interface 2017-12-08T05:05:00Z

A really innovative game, fits the theme, nice audio. The graphics could have been better, but the Christmas theme is a yes.

Invasion by mennchen22 2017-12-27T23:14:51Z

Some suggestions: - Make it more related to the theme. You don't necessarily possess aliens, so it's not exactly the theme. - Make the game less buggy. - Make the game lighter or create a web GL version (the file I downloaded is 100 MB, which is pretty heavy). Probably the graphics files are heavy.

Overall pretty fun game. Great entry for Ludum Dare. I really like the audio.

Prinsen Gulden by King Kujito 2017-12-07T05:11:41Z

Phenomenal graphics, definitely the one of the best contenders for this category. The audio suits it pretty well. The background song is exceptional. The point of view from the camera (2.5D) really makes this game unique and so different from other platformers. The megaman jump seems to be too difficult though. I think the difficulties in controlling the character is because of the velocity control, which I cannot judge you on because it is the developer's choice (I was commented for the opposite because in my platformer game, pressing Left Arrow after moving right changes the direction immediately, while your character slows down and then change direction). This game, however, does not fit the theme quite well. Overall this is a really excellent game and one of the best I have played so far (I'm pretty opinionated because I also made a platformer).

P.S. I think if you update the game, you should make the links for the different versions separate

what-doesn't kill you gets stronger by kerneltt 2017-12-08T04:47:08Z

Really nice game, I like how you have to move to kill the mice. The graphics are cool but the green grass should be more blurred to focus attention on the player and the mice. Quite a fun game to play. One suggestion: make instructions in the game.

Radioactive Rumble by weeping-rupee 2017-12-06T06:23:10Z

This game is a really strong contender. Really innovative game design, good audio, really fits the theme, and extremely fun to play. The only suggestion I could make is that to make the buttons near each other, going from aqweds to op or n is too hard.

Jazzy Beats by Moski 2017-12-13T05:25:30Z

The graphics are really good. The audio is probably the highlight of this game. Fun game mechanics, but somehow a little bit too easy to win.

Life's A Glitch by gamepopper 2017-12-08T05:22:06Z

I really love the game. The graphics are goals. The audio really fits that retro feeling. A really strong compo game. A suggestion would be to make the lower platforms easier to get to.

PullPals by eric-lathrop 2017-12-07T05:27:23Z

I really love this game. It is indeed difficult but the cute graphics and audio really help me keep my patience. This is connected to the theme implicitly. This is the overall a phenomenal game, simple but really innovative. This is a strong contender for the fun category. Will definitely play this game again. One suggestion is maybe to include instructions in the game (though it is really easy to figure out how to control the character)

The Exalted by Flubz 2017-12-13T04:55:57Z

This game is excellent in every single aspect. Really nice delineation of the theme. The game is rather difficult though, and I don't really know after how many shots that I get hit with do I actually die.

SPLIT by steven-pinto 2017-12-07T04:16:18Z

I really like the creepy graphics and audio of this game. However, I think this game does not really fit the theme well. The story is really predictable and the long time for text to disappear made me think that the game was lagging (you could make it shorter because most of the lines can be re-read anyways). Still, this game will obviously have a good mood rating, because of its really creepy nature.

Phaeria's Mine by AVAVT 2017-12-05T23:16:10Z

Really good game. All the graphics, the sounds work really well. The game really fits the theme. After playing for a while, players will figure out the best strategy to win. Humor and mood do not really fit this game.

Chuckles, the Word Juggler by SecretPocketCat 2017-12-07T23:50:44Z

This game is pretty innovative with the option of using backspace and enter. I would like the audio to be more intense, though.

The Floor is Lava by BinarySpark 2017-12-23T23:52:18Z

Really enjoyable game. Cool graphics and effects. The audio really suits it as well.

My only one suggestion is that to make the game suit the theme more, I feel like this kind of gets easy if you stay on one side the whole time and not free-falling. Also the boost sometimes are too beneficial (the extra life one) and there should be fewer boosts.

I really like this game. There should be a hall of fame or something like that because I spent so much time to play this game and I would love to see my name in that.

Spiders in da house by Ittai Manero 2017-12-05T23:27:35Z

This game is really really really good. I love how the spider moves randomly. The graphics are really appropriate with your spiders theme (pixel art, retro, with that creepy feel) (i would use a gun too). The sounds were done nicely as well. This game fits the theme really well, the more spiders you have, the worse it is (literally so true). Overall I really had fun playing this game

Pug Pub by MaiMai 2017-12-23T23:20:25Z

Excellent graphics. The audio is also nice and fits the game as well.

Suggestions: - Make the game starts faster - Make the difference between the drinks clearer - Make a special feature to make the game more innovative.

Really fun play, and the graphics are just admirable!

Dense Revolve by fiaKaiera 2017-12-06T04:17:20Z

The best thing about this game is the black and white graphics. It is so cool. The audio could be improved by having a theme song. Your game does not fit the theme very well though. Another suggestion is that you can include the instructions in your game to make it easier to understand the game (it took me a while to know that I can reload).

Badger Runner by Artem Ravbetsky 2017-12-27T08:17:15Z

I like the graphics, really cool cobras. To get more ratings, i would advise to rate more games to get better karma. Cool game, although not really related to the theme. So much better than the dinosaur game from google chrome.

Invasion of The Bugs by Scout 2017-12-07T04:41:50Z

This game is OK, the lava lamps seem to not relate to anything though. I like the fact that the rocks can block you and this can be frustrating at night when fighting the bugs. There can be a lot of improvements: add the sound effects, make more guns, have new game mechanics. This does not, however, really fit the theme well, as it is a bit random to have more bugs after killing a number of bugs.

Virus Detected by NotSpaghettiGames 2017-12-06T04:25:31Z

This game really fits the theme. The graphics were nicely done. The audio is appropriate

Speed Journey by Kyle Pham 2017-12-06T05:49:43Z

@mao and @manan Thank you for your comments. I just found out why the jump sometimes does not work. Apparently it still works in my Unity version but does not work in the HTML 5 and the PC versions. The GetKeyDown did not always work so I change it to either GetKeyDown or GetKey and it works perfectly now! If you like to try again, you can play it on NewGrounds with the HTML 5 version. Again, thank you guys so much for pointing the bug out!

Speed Journey by Kyle Pham 2017-12-06T05:52:41Z

@mao I actually did not use RigidBody2D. I made my own version of collisions and RigidBody2D. But I will take your comment and find out what I could do in my game. The jump bug is now fixed (because of the GetKeyDown in Unity)

Speed Journey by Kyle Pham 2017-12-08T20:40:07Z

@b34k3rm33p can you describe the problem a little bit more clearly? I played the HTML version a lot and have never witnessed this. I don't know if there is any problem with your browser or Internet. Thanks for playing the game though. There is a Windows version so you can download (only 3-6 MB I think) and play on that instead. @b34k3rm33p

Speed Journey by Kyle Pham 2017-12-16T07:41:05Z

@cubeeo the lava lamp is at the end of every level. I guess the first level is a little bit hard to pass (I am kind of bad with level design). But my friends all passed it after 10-20 tries (mostly to get used to the platformer setting).

I initially associated the "mood" category with something that makes you think deeply about. I can change it, but I don't know if I should, because I still feel like humor kind of fits more. And I don't really know if something will happen if I change it days after the submission date.

Mobs by Iferit 2017-12-07T04:30:09Z

Cute game, pretty fun. This fits the theme quite well (I don't get why someone thought that this did not fit the theme). The audio is also really fun. I had a touchable laptop so this game is much easier though. The graphics: phenomenal.

9 Lives by Alex Davies 2017-12-05T22:39:00Z

I really love the graphics here. The animation of the cat is good. The theme is not really represented well here though (I also made a platformer game so I understand how difficult it is to integrate this weird theme to a platformer game). I could not hear any sounds. You should have opted out of humor and mood because they don't suit well here. I like the innovation where you can walk through the houses and then jump on top of them. This is a really fun game overall, too bad it's kind of short.

Penti by DogSquad 2017-12-06T00:27:56Z

This game is pretty fun to play. It may fit the theme, even though the way I interpret the theme is that the more *you* have, the worse it is. Your game seems to only mean a large number of enemies. The audio is good, except when I got attacked, it kinda hurts my ears (with the echoes). The graphics could be done to make the game look more appealing (plus point for having lavalamps though <3 ). It's pretty innovative with the walls and getting stuck. Another suggestion is that you can make the movement feels more smooth, maybe by making it moves faster or zooming the game in, because it seems a bit slow in my opinion.

Balloon Baffoon by B34k3rM33p 2017-12-08T03:00:25Z

there are a lot of bugs here. I would try to google or go to youtube to fix these types of problems. I would say probably you have problems with sorting layer. The gameplay is pretty innovative though and could be further developed into a real fun game. It does fit the theme.

A WIZARD STOLE MY CLOTHES by jellycopter 2017-12-06T04:37:48Z

Really fun game, the levels are long though. I did not hear any audio. This fits the theme quite well. My game also has long and difficult levels. You can check it out https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/speed-journey .

Make It Home by Andrew Brotherton 2017-12-08T05:13:12Z

I really like this game. Really fun and innovative. And it fits the theme. I do think, however, that there should be something to incentivize the player to drink more (although most players are really curious like me and will try to drink as much as they can to explore the game).

The Big Pink Thing. by Ludrak 2017-12-06T18:41:47Z

Good game (I also made a platformer myself). The control is so hard though, having to use the arrows to move, and then space to jump, and then mouse (including middle click) to shoot. and I'm right handed so this is extremely difficult. To improve, I think you can definitely make pick up weapon a button instead of a mouse click (some people using the touch pad in their laptops may not even have the middle click), and maybe make shooting a button as well. I hear no audio but you opted out of audio so it's fine. I could not clearly see how this relates to the theme, you can edit your game description to explain that. I am a fan of platformers though so I really like this. By the way, the 8 bit graphics are cool, but maybe you could try to change to make your game different from other green grass on the brown ground minecraft-ish games (this is just a suggestion though). I would definitely play this again!

Too Much Slime! by Kizzyman 2017-12-13T05:16:50Z

I like the idea really much. However, the control is somewhat annoying and hard. A, D and then space (and mouse as well). It should be changed so that the jump button should be closer to the move buttons. Level 2 is kinda hard, but I passed it. Don't know if there is level 3 though. There is also the problem when you get stuck to the wall (which I don't know is intentional or not, I used to make a game fairly similar to this and I did not make it stick). But this game is overall good and really addictive.

Open the Moon Gate by professor 2017-12-08T04:57:41Z

I really like this game. The initial graphics are OK but if you get 10 moons => awesome. The shoot effect audio volume may be turned down a little bit, as it can get annoying and repetitive. Really clear instructions. It could also have been better had the game been closer to the theme.

Broken Light by Xeloglaz 2017-12-06T19:05:31Z

This game is really good.

I really love what you did with the shiny background. The bullet when you shoot is also phenomenal as well. Suggestion for graphics: Even though I really like the background, it would be better if the other graphics in the game is of the same type. Making 2D graphics on a 3D-ish background is okay, but I think you can remove the black border in your game sprites (the player and the zombie). Also maybe make the score and the number of bullets left box bigger.

Audio: I really like the theme song and the sound effect when you shoot. But maybe add a creepy background audio when you play the game and raise the volume of the shooting sound would help you make the game more scary. (I assume that this is a horor-ish game as it is dark. If it is not, just raise the volume and your game might be better)

Theme: The theme in a way fits the theme. However, I would like more explanation for why the light zone is smaller, the more kills you get. The theme is also the more you HAVE so maybe you could also add some additional function to make it fit the game better. Having more kills is a little bit clichey.

Overall, really good game, I really love it when it gets darker.
