LD38 — A Small World

Spaceworm - Defend a sacred tree from worms invading your planet by 5Mixer 2017-05-01T08:22:21Z

Very cool idea, and for the most part, well implemented too. One bug I encountered is, after placing a long row of bricks/bombs, my character would sometime continue moving in the same direction without any input (the enemies were able to move during this time). The other problem I had, as Steve noted, was the enemy passing through my player in certain instances. Overall I though the gameplay was enjoyable, and the graphics were simple, but effective.

Bug to the Footstep by eddynardo 2017-05-02T11:03:27Z

I'm on a mac, so was only able to experience the game through Larry and Jupiter's videos. Still, I thought it was a very neat idea -- grabbing and placing the little bugs makes it a lot more compelling than simply placing abstract blocks. The graphical style fits the game very nicely, and that the puzzles were well designed in terms of difficulty progression. Very nice work!

By the way, I added an option to invert the y axis in my game, if you're still interested in taking on the leaderboards ;)

Planet Hell by Emile 2017-05-01T10:14:32Z

I enjoyed playing this, it's very relaxing. The graphics are simple, but effective; now just needs some soothing music!

Zombies In Space by JesseyCool 2017-05-19T11:28:37Z

Quite fun for the first few rounds. I think zombies should die several seconds after their heads are blown off though. The damage effect overlay didn't match the screen size, and looked quite ugly cut off on the edges. The fade to red at the end was nice and dramatic! Some recoil and gun sway would have helped a lot to make the game more immersive.

Polar Protector by AlexHoratio 2017-05-01T11:11:22Z

Great work! I enjoyed the absorption mechanic, the catchy music, and the rather literal interpretation of the planet's poles. Was completely baffled about the damage mechanic until I read the comments though, perhaps you could add that info to your main post?

Balanced Upon A Turtle by BluShine 2017-05-01T09:19:17Z

Cool idea! Found controlling the god a little tricky, but I am just using keyboard. Can't get past disc 3, unfortunately, because there's one sheep that just slides off right away and I can't reach it in time. Not sure if I'm missing something?

Shrinking Planet by Brackeys 2017-05-01T07:51:56Z

The aesthetics of this game are fantastic -- in particular I love the grass shader and the particle effects! I was a bit confused at first about the presence of the road, thinking I was supposed to try stick to it. The game is fun and challenging (I think the world shrinking is a brilliant way to increase the difficult), my only complaint there is that if I just head off in a random direction at the start of the game, I can usually coast along for about 20 seconds without having to dodge anything. It might be a good idea to target a meteor at the player's predicted position (if they were to continue in a straight line) every few seconds, just to keep them on their toes at the beginning!

Good music, great atmosphere, I enjoyed it a lot.

Cell Out! by frogcheese 2017-05-19T11:05:58Z

Cool idea, I liked the soft-body effect. Wish there was more of a challenge though!

Dr. M Little's Planet Mass Overdrive by slimabob 2017-05-01T11:23:14Z

I found the dialogue very amusing, so good work on that! The graphics were pretty nice, and the gameplay was decent, though extremely easy. Nicely done!

Vixa by Spav 2017-05-01T21:23:56Z

Wow, this is very addictive! Can't say I was exactly able to turn off my mind and relax, as you put it; I found the gameplay very challenging, but enjoyably so. Great music, and a nice, simple design. Awesome work :)

SlapR by MewSoul 2017-05-19T11:12:09Z

I enjoyed the game. Would have been cool if the penguins leapt onto the ice disc from surrounding ice blocks, instead of just appearing from thin air. Animations and outraged squawking sfx would have been a nice touch!

Murder Mitosis by _for_science 2017-05-19T12:07:33Z

Very neat idea, and excellent execution. Would like to be able to restart game early if I die in a bot-only game.

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-19T11:53:29Z

You've created a lovely mood here. Would definitely have enjoyed it more if there were some degree of challenge though.

Monolith by samlo 2017-05-19T11:58:30Z

I absolutely loved the aesthetic of this game, and had a great time playing. I ended up dying quite a lot, so would have appreciated a quicker restart. Pressing z just did slow fade out to menu.

Turtle Hero by KillToLive 2017-05-01T09:36:49Z

I like the idea, and would certainly play again if it was expanded upon. The hand-drawn graphics are cute!

Trienne's Trial by ltpats 2017-05-19T11:19:14Z

I love the player art, and the enemy design is quite interesting. Struggled terribly with some of the jumps, but I may just be terrible.

Spabullare by Chuck Zelvis 2017-05-19T11:37:04Z

I liked the input scheme you chose. As has been mentioned, sfx and faster shooting would make this a lot more immersive.

Tiny Defender by AlexisGea 2017-05-01T10:36:21Z

Full points for graphics, this game is absolutely beautiful! I love the swirling clouds, and the planet design. The effect when the asteroids crash into the planet is a bit underwhelming though. Game was fun and challenging, but would certainly have liked a few more turrets to choose from. It was slightly irritating that I could always see the least directly above me, perhaps a different aspect ratio would have interesting? Also, are the bullets supposed to be firing straight out of my head? Final note -- I think if a rock lands on you, you should be squashed.

Enjoyed it very much overall; fantastic entry.

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-19T11:47:03Z

Such a cool feeling to play as this strange beast. I thought the way it looked as it moved around was brilliant. Mood and music is great -- phenomenal entry!

Particulate by Daniel Alhadeff 2017-05-01T11:04:01Z

That was fun. Would be nice if having more mass meant I could steal from other planets though, I'm getting tired of being robbed blind! I'd also like it if my planet physically scaled as it gained mass, and camera zoomed out. Gaining mass would feel more consequential then, I think. Well done!

Hunting Frog by Indeximal 2017-05-01T08:40:19Z

Cute graphics and good use of the theme. Would have loved to have some music, and perhaps the frog could be made a little easier to control by adding a variable jump distance based on how long the key is held down? In any case, I enjoyed it!

Planet Orb Trials - Time Attack by PopThosePringles 2017-05-01T09:00:24Z

Nice game, I got a bit dizzy haring around those small worlds, but still had a good time. It would be great to get a mac build though, because the webgl is a little bit laggy, at least for me. Struggled to get that high orb on the second planet, even once I discovered the feather. I'm probably just terrible though... I understand there wasn't exactly an abundance of time, but some different colours for each of the three worlds would have been cool! Was a bit surprised when the GoT theme came on :)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The Catnip Sniper by SkullPixel 2017-12-06T08:21:43Z

Cute game, and I like that it doesn't make the mistake of starting out too easy. However, maybe the cats with guns could be introduced a bit later on as part of the difficulty increase? Maybe the non-crazy cats could pick up the fallen guns, unless you walk over them to pick them up? Anyway, was pretty fun! I managed a 22.

XenoNanny by icxon 2017-12-05T23:39:26Z

Awesome entry. This game is very solid in all aspects, but I particularly loved the rough look of the intro and background art.

.SWARM by Hegemege 2017-12-11T12:05:50Z

Really cool way of interacting with the game, I haven't played anything like this before. As others have mentioned, being able to erase selectively would be nice. The game was very easy, so perhaps you could introduce some scoring system that takes time/number of deaths into account, so there's more motivation to optimize the paths. Nice work!

FATAL OVERKILL - Robot Edition by feips 2017-12-06T12:02:35Z

The game controls really well. I think you struck a good balance between smoothness and responsiveness there. Thanks for including the dev highscore, that's always an interesting stat to know (I didn't come close!)

SUPER COP HERO by Finlal 2017-12-06T09:10:58Z

Great premise and awesome art. The game controls really well too.

eatMoreBurgers(); by Luther 2017-12-06T11:52:58Z

Managed 128. I like the idea of the movement mechanic changing to rolling as you eat more, but would have been cool if there had been more stages like that to keep things interesting. (Although in fairness I have no idea where you would go after rolling). Was an interesting take on the theme I thought, well done.

Deckest Dungeon by huminaboz 2017-12-06T08:39:21Z

Found it a bit odd that all characters could cast the same attacks regardless of class. The art and UI was extremely well done though; would be great to see this expanded with a more in-depth ruleset.

Chuckles, the Word Juggler by SecretPocketCat 2017-12-05T23:02:12Z

Ooh I love typing games, this was a lot of fun! Would have been cool if the knives were always synchronized with the words (with more knives being added in over time), but I guess it would be tricky to have him catching them all properly then. At the moment the clown feels a bit unrelated to the game (not even any indication of him dropping/fumbling the knives when you miss a word). Pressing backspace deletes two chars at a time for me (web version). Quite an odd selection of words I got, what sort of dictionary are you using? :)

Ghosth - Annoying Ghosts by Crowno 2017-12-06T09:45:44Z

Incredible work on the graphics, I adore the main character design.

I'll Take You To Tomato Town by adamgryu 2017-12-06T09:37:34Z

Top marks for humour, those phonecalls are so funny (especially the watermelon one!). The weird arm mechanic and the groceries flying everywhere made it quite a lot of fun to play. I enjoyed stealing the employees' tomato hats.

FLOCK by BlackAtlas 2017-12-11T12:21:59Z

The game's really beautiful and I love the idea. I found the steering very unintuitive though. It feels like the angle of the bird should affect its steering directly, not pressing up/down after changing angle. I wish I had more reason to fly low among the rocks, at the moment I can just win flying over everything. Also, since all game controls are on keyboard, having to use mouse to restart is irritating. Well done on a nice game.

Capeman Adventure by DarkSamus9000 2017-12-06T11:45:20Z

Well done for getting something playable. Will be interested to check out your next entry to see how much you've improved by then. Keep at it!

Rattendorf by NoAim91 2017-12-06T09:01:19Z

The game is stunning to look at (though visual distinction between day and night would have been very nice). Was a bit confused by my farms, which often didn't display that they were accumulating food, though the end-of-day log showed that they actually did. Game froze for me around day 15 and I had to forcequit (mac build). Excellent atmosphere, well done!

CHARLES DE GAULLE - 2122 - by Aerios 2017-12-11T11:40:28Z

Took some time to puzzle out what was going on, but was enjoyable to do so. I really like the graphics and audio, my only gripe is with the mouse-over detection of certain elements. For example I could only pick up the hammer when my mouse was somewhere near the bottom right (entirely off the graphic).

Stealy by Grentacular 2017-12-06T12:01:10Z

Nice work. I kept thinking 'just one more thing', and getting caught. I would make a terrible robber :( Managed to escape with a golden turd though, so was all worth it. Love the 'caught' animation with the excessive baton use! Clever take on the theme too.

Triangle Command by backyard-dev 2017-12-05T23:12:30Z

Like others I was a bit put off by the overly smooth controls. Would have preferred the difficulty to have been increased some other way. It was very cool seeing the energy pellets bouncing around inside the ship, that detail really appealed to me for some reason. Music was fantastic.
