LD38 — A Small World

A lot of life in a small world by smdeveloper 2017-05-13T08:53:50Z

I liked the idea of maintaining a zoo, but I think that a little more feedback could have made the game more enjoyable :) By that, I mean click sound effects etc, and making the numbers on the right have a more visual representation. I kinda got how it might have linked with small world, but again, I think more visual and audio feedback would have really helped :)

A Small World Cup by rujo 2017-05-13T12:09:27Z

Hi there, very fun and addicting game you made. I feel like the pixel shader thing you have is, uh, very very close to deepnight's effect that he uses in all his games, so I just kinda ignored that (http://deepnight.net/). I like the input method of shooting your player, made it very fun. Nice entry.

World Requires by phaze0 2017-05-13T10:30:18Z

Sick puzzle dude! This is the best I could do: https://i.imgur.com/3N0a4zH.png. I like the idea and feel like it fit the theme well, but my two biggest points of feedback is rotation would be nice, and the 'balancing' of colours never really felt like an obstacle, more an inconvenience. Maybe there could be certain rules instead, like 'no yellow can touch a green' or something. Reminded me of a puzzle game called blokus that my family owns :D Search it up on google images. :+1:

Dwarf World by rnlf 2017-05-13T12:21:07Z

This is a really good game. The first few scenes made me think that the entire game would be a hand holding tutorial, but then the puzzles came and I really appreciated the difficulty of the levels. My main critism is the sound effects, which were kinda annoying and in your face. I liked the vectory art style, and the animations were cool.

GALAXEN by mrerdalural 2017-05-04T11:13:15Z

I agree that the messages disappeared in an odd manner. While it technically may have made sense, it might have been best to show the full message before cutting it off. The game was well done, it was kinda neat watching my tiny planet cause another planet to fly around lol. I feel like it lacked some purpose, and while the might have been intentional, I obviously think that if you extended beyond LD, that should be the first thing you fix :)

Interstellar Botanist by saiodin 2017-05-13T11:08:47Z

This was a very neat and complex entry! Amazing for a single LD. The AI's voice acting really was a highlight for me. It talk me quite a few restarts to actually get a descent number of plants going and not die instantly. It felt very chaotic buying stuff, checking plant stats etc, but honestly, I feel like that feeling suited the game perfectly. Awesome entry!

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-05-13T10:07:52Z

I loved this so much, I could have played for ages more :D The lighting and edge shader got me hooked at first, but then when my dumb brain finally realized the main mechanic ('frustrum' daniel? Could it get more obvious?) I was in awe. It really reminded me of manifold garden in it's trippy (almost non-euclidean feeling) feeling, and even a similar art style of edges. I agree with some of the other comments about the sound getting a bit annoying, I thought it was a nice track but was kinda always in your face. Another slightly annoying thing was the footsteps and 'head torch' movement, it was sometimes distracting from the main mechanic.

Overall, I thought this was probably my favourite game I've played so far. Plus, the ending without the head torch was super dope! I'd love to know more about how to technically implement something like this.

Space Race by feips 2017-05-12T12:56:16Z

Nice game! As others have already mentioned, the controls make it a bit difficult. I think, personally that they would be simpler if you didn't have to use q/e, always just WASD. Also, sometimes I'd land on a planet and die, probably because I was poisoned or something, but it wasn't very clear and thus didn't feel quite fair (perhaps a flashing warning would have made this a positive instead of a negative). That's all just minor crit though, the game is very impressive for LD! :D

Edit: SICK MUSIC.

Ronut by toestee 2017-05-13T11:16:48Z

This is awesome! So much polish. Flying blood particles, killer worms! The intro comic sequence was incredible, the way the camera followed the scenes, very inventive! In game, I do think having a score or some sort of 'wave' time mechanic too seperate the constant attack could be nice. I found holding down the machine gun and using the sword was allowed, and so I kinda found the game a bit easy. One idea I had is maybe you'd have to find ammo spawned randomly to keep firing! Over all, such an awesome game with a lot of polish.

Little Space by KevTukk 2017-05-04T10:43:48Z

Innovative entry! I Like how with entries like this, you can start to see emergent mechanics (like oh, I'm silly, why am I not stacking them, it reduces their exposure to asteroids!). So I thought the actual game was good. For it's music, it's not the sort of music that I typically like, but after playing the game for a bit I thought it worked. For me, the weak point was the graphics, but not so much the background or people, really more the tutorials text and stuff, it was a little difficult to read and understand the way it was setup. Still, the gameplay was very enjoyable. Awesome job! :D

Small Whirled by PTSnoop 2017-05-13T11:46:26Z

This is pretty cool, I like the minimal art and in the later levels the particles can get pretty crazy! The game was presently very cleanly, minimal colours, nice fonts etc, which I liked. Although sometimes it felt like a button mash game, it was still pretty enjoyable. My only complaint is that, as you said, the rocks are unpredictable, and for me, they didn't make the game harder, just got me stuck. Rather than making it more likely for me to die, I found myself wanting to free myself, even if I would die, just to reset the level haha. That doesn't really subtract for the rest of the game though :)

The Life Amoebic by Baby Dino Herd 2017-05-04T10:49:44Z

Gee's, this is incredible. Took me a bit of time to get it, but once you start sucking them in it's very ambient and neat :D I agree with others that commented it could be mobile, poking your finger and spread the membrane :D

BUS DRIVER by Rombus 2017-05-04T10:35:13Z

haha this is pretty cool. the graphics really stood out, it's a unique style, I might have to remember it for future ludum dares ;P. Best score I could get was around 30, it gets crazy. I also noticed (I think? it was very subtle) that you speed up the bus noises/sound effects when you press space, which was an awesome touch and similar to the audio mixing I did on my entry. Our entries actualy have a few similarities, they're both somewhat like snake. Good entry overall! :D

Nightwards, Heartwards by Victor Ojuel 2017-05-13T11:26:25Z

Hmm, very unique and interesting game. I've never really been a big player of text games, but I tried to follow this one. I kinda get that it's a bit abstract. I found the four people, but wasn't really sure what to do - or even if there was an ultimate goal. I thought I'd have to try and get all four people togethor, but wasn't too succesful heh. I like the transitions. Audio was okay, and kinda suited the very abstract, mysterious vibe you had, though sometimes it got a little annoying when it went high pitched. Overall, a good entry that I struggled to fully understand :)

Cell Defender by Kreur 2017-05-13T10:19:08Z

Cool game, I liked the (imo) unique mechanic of having helpers that you can use, while also being a leader of them that can die. I liked the simple graphics, there wasn't anything amazing about them either, but their minimal style worked. The egg shape of them was nice too, even if it didn't greatly effect gameplay. With a little bit more direction (and perhaps explanation in game) I think it could get even better :)

what's left by frostByte4k 2017-05-13T11:57:46Z

Hi there! Your game is pretty difficult, kept falling out of the sky :o. Also, the alien lasers made sure I died quickly lol. I think that some extra attention to the art (which comes with practise - it seems as though you're using windows paint, I'd recommend looks around for other programs like krita and trying some practise). Also, I 'caught' on the side of blocks as I fell. The hand drawn death screen reminded me a lot of my first LD game years ago http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=16241), just keep working away and within no time you're practise is going to make your LD games so much better. Good luck for the future :D

Devoured Intellect by BoobMarley 2017-05-13T11:36:00Z

Hah this was pretty funny. Art was really nice too. Overall, I think it was a good game, my own gripe is that sometimes I felt it played more like a book than a game, as really you only make one decision at the end, for most of the game you're just listening to them. At the end, I clicked the GUY YOU SCREAMED RANDOMLY and then the second guy, where I was correct. Could be cool if the questions fed into new conversations and stopped the allowance of asking other questions, though of course that would have taken more time. This was nice for an LD!

Space Snake by Hunter Loftis 2017-05-12T13:01:52Z

The graphical style was on point - I feel like this would have been ruined if you tried to go for something somewhat realistic? Super minimal fitted great. I kinda wanted to go straight at some points, and unless I missed something I had to spam left and right - I get that this is a super super minor thing lol but it'd drive me crazy if I played more than five minutes haha. Good job!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Surge by lozzadawg 2017-08-04T11:50:05Z

Neat game! The lighting effect worked well and it was well combined with the shoot mechanic to make a far more interesting, compramise mechanic. The game play was simple but nice, and it was nice to see detail in bullet sprites changing per energy level, etc etc. If you had more time to polish, making mouse hold down continually shoot would be nice, and of course little stuff like power ups etc. Overall, a well made game (particularly given your comments on time!) good work.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Orbdig by 5Mixer 2021-04-26T09:26:14Z

Fixed the link!

Thanks TinyHatGames. Yep, needs an end game hehe. Considered adding lava and biomes but ran out of time. Thanks for playing!

Werm - an existential adventure by m11 2021-04-26T09:55:09Z

Awesome mood and humor. That image you've got in the post is super aesthetic, great font and design. Little face is cute. Played for way too long, text was great!

Fishing Trouble by jefvel 2021-04-26T09:13:39Z

Great game, quite addictive. At times wasn't really sure how my shop upgrades were changing things, but I just brought stuff and went deeper and it was great fun. Key minigame is surprisingly hard!

God's Arteries by Gunturtle 2021-04-26T09:37:20Z

Ahhhh this is so hard. Absolutely gave me celeste vibes. Great job. Music's dope (awesome opening to the game)

Stabalot by bw_devel 2021-04-26T09:07:53Z

This was awesome! Took me awhile to even notice the giant spike of death, and notice that the heart was always infront of it (at first I thought it was about finding the heart). Once I understood that though, I thought the mechanic was very novel! Audio is snazzy.

Drop n Grab by samguy 2021-04-26T09:11:27Z

A little frustrating that friction with walls pushes you up (and not just direct wall front on contact), but I guess that's part of the challenge. Good job.

Starchaser by Haustgeirr 2021-04-26T10:05:03Z

Check your itch, I saw your game there but it doesn't look like you've filled in the field for this page's url. Found you by your username :)

Love the clean graphics and humor, lol'd at 'stars are hot and surprisingly hard'. Also, the UI system you have is super sick.

Extreme Deep Sea Fishing! by Sbug 2021-04-26T09:34:37Z

Felt really fleshed out, nice graphics (that sub 'rotate' animation looks like it took a bit of effort, even it does occasionally do a weird flip!). Great job :D

Through The Crust by sweer 2021-04-26T09:40:30Z

Really hard, but pretty good. In games like this you can normally turn fully around so that took some getting used to. The trail behind was a nice graphical touch. Minor thing, but my small exhausted brain didn't recognise the 'PLAY' button as a button, thought I had to download it :P

Love Under the Robot Junkyard by frogmen 2021-04-26T09:02:56Z

Graphics were great, even just the loading screen was a clever changeup. The realtime countdown was a bit frustrating as I wanted to mouseover things but didn't have time to! Good game :)

One More Lap! by Harrison Dunn 2021-04-26T09:58:07Z

Slightly nauseating with the delayed full camera rotation, but amusing. Good job.

Adventure: Depths & Dangers by yulotomorrow 2021-04-26T09:51:23Z

Cool music, fancy starting scene, nice graphics. Gameplay was simple but alright. Nice work :)

LD54 — Limited Space

LD#54 - Meteor Shower - C64 by Endurion 2023-10-03T11:43:20Z

Very impressive entry, and pretty pixel art. Frustrating when death felt unavoidable, but overall quite fun. Style of game felt old-school too, like those old hand held black and white games (with the non-grid LCD's), which often involved moving a player left and right. :ok_hand:

Amazin' Delivery Service by candlesan 2023-10-03T11:19:06Z

Really fun and quite polished, great job. Nice graphics, no obvious bugs, just well executed.

I did feel slightly limited in my ability to actually strategise - moving left and right obviously introduces chaos, so going left/right, stopping, dropping repeatedly felt best, but also wasn't as fun - not sure if there's any way to add more player control  Physics is always fun though, good chaos for a mini game haha.

River Dance by mdotedot 2023-10-03T11:54:19Z

Great puzzle, but took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that the white rectangles are what groups people, not the colour or anything. Once I got that, quite fun, I used to play rush hour and had forgotten about it until the comment above. Art was, er, trippy :stuck_out_tongue: Were the particle meant to stay active in the middle of the screen? Nice entry

Sea Kelp Tower by HacksawUnit 2023-10-03T12:11:50Z

Best graphics I've seen so far, awesome visual polish. Love the little particles, the title screen typography, the text smoothly switching side depending on which side you face. I'm not too used to platformers and found the movement, and the core mechanic, quite difficult, but it's a fun game.

Minecart Madness by jrf 2023-10-07T07:53:10Z

Nice game! Hitboxes were hard (I particularly found that going left or right, when I'd passed a side rock, caused me to lose when I thought I was clear). Mining forwards/ducking down were far harder but that made it fun and addicting. Art style was simple but good, I like the lighting effect and that it changes when you duck. Great work!

Just why? by Donitz 2023-10-03T12:05:07Z

Holy moly this was fun and infuriating. Terrific graphics and levels - you were very creative in building on top of the base mechanic (drips of cave gunk, mechanical looking things, organic looking things). And great work building with vanilla js

Floodwater by John Gabriel 2023-10-05T09:05:10Z

Amazing! Took a minute to realise what I could move etc, though I think the graphics are just about as indicative as that can be at that size. Really really fun game and great music :D

Terrain Tactics by Asieke 2023-10-03T11:39:22Z

I like the mechanic and simplicity, but after a couple of rounds I couldn't do anything and all my blue pieces seemed frozen. Nice entry overall :+1:

Bullfrog Burnie by Logan_Core 2023-10-03T12:21:13Z

Nice gradual ramp up and embedded tutorial, cute squash/stretch on the frog, nice non-linear wall movement. It felt a bit like bouncing a football sometimes (and I can't do that well haha); the frog would jump further/less far than intended. Overall though, great submission!

Greasy Justice by kasmilus 2023-10-03T11:31:40Z

This has so much obvious polish and attention to detail (that wavy UI that comes in from the top left is super slick), it's just complicated and so I can understand people who can't get it going. The pixel art is great, the mechanics are interesting, and I hadn't seen any of them before, text on top of the cursor was cool and useful, and even the audio is good for compo

Two difficulties for me was realising I had to click on the enemy spawn points (you mention you control them, and start the waves, but I needed guidance to click on them - I clicked randomly until I realised) and the fact that clicking didn't seem quite right? I think you have to double click?

Amazing work, but just needs a little love so it's understandable and easy to interact with.

Tetroniformer by SquiggelSquirrel 2023-10-03T11:11:32Z

I like the idea, but as Ackbad said, moving pieces could be a bit troublesome. I mostly walked backwards because it's difficult (but not always impossible) to walk in the direction you're holding the piece. Rotating often didn't feel useful, and I got stuck a few times (down the hole but also with no pieces seemingly able to be picked up).

As I said, I like the concept though, with a slightly smoother UX it would be quite interesting. Great job for a compo game

MY LIL WIZARD by doinksoft 2023-10-05T09:13:49Z

Great game :D Super juicy graphics and audio. Like others, had some perf issues, but wasn't really a game stopper. I do feel like it started a bit slow and could have ramped up to moderate difficulty faster, but once it was really going I was under pressure for sure. Nice work

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Platfarmer by lozzadawg 2018-04-23T07:36:55Z

Great game Jordan. Couple of minor bugs, like getting caught on the floor colliders, but a solid game loop of parkour->get fruit->sell. Couple of teleporters were really cool, and liked the double jump. Nice minimalist low res player :D
