Nice work, difficulty could ramp up quicker though.

+1 to Spinaljack. But this is a really nice set of core mechanics with a good presentation. It did feel unfair that an enemy could pass through you though if you move toward each other from adjacent spaces on the same turn.

Nice. One detail I really liked was the way the magic music was layered on top of the normal music, synchronised and everything.

Standing at the left edge is almost a winning strategy, feels a bit cheaty :)

Very cool idea, and for the most part, well implemented too. One bug I encountered is, after placing a long row of bricks/bombs, my character would sometime continue moving in the same direction without any input (the enemies were able to move during this time). The other problem I had, as Steve noted, was the enemy passing through my player in certain instances. Overall I though the gameplay was enjoyable, and the graphics were simple, but effective.

cool game, i like that you took time to make a parallax starfield. Fading between the two music tracks when using spells was a nice touch of polish. Veeeery nice :)

This is cool. I agree that the difficulty could ramp up quicker, but I still enjoyed it. The graphics are clean and I really like the soundeffects. It's snake, but with moving targets. I really like it. Good job!

It was a really fun game! Almost addicting. You scaled the difficulty level extremely well. Amazing game thank you for making it!

Wooo, nice game mechanic man! I though that I had to collect the bombs till the screen get's full :P then I read your post about the bombs

Congrats!

Love the game, simple, fun mechanic, nice minimalism graphics, and the bombs + walls allow more ways of defending than just camping the tree. A very fun game!

Neat entry! The movement-based spell-casting in particular was an interesting idea, I would've liked to see the gameplay focus on that a bit more!

A couple criticisms: - The rate at which enemies spawn is far too easy at the start. I had to beat dozens of enemies before I felt like there was any reason to move away from the 2x3 area in front of the tree. - 1-length enemies can pass through you if you move into each other's positions on one turn - since the tree is on the right edge and rotated 90 degrees, it makes the whole game feel like it's being played sideways; I think having it at the top would have been a bit more natural (even taking into account that screens are typically wider than they are tall)

Really interesting idea here. Great execution and really fun. Felt like casting the wall spell wasn't really worth it because enemies would just move around it. Also towards the end I lost control and couldn't move around properly anymore (not sure if you're aware of that bug).

Very cool game! The music was pretty cool and fitting, and the gameplay was pretty unique.

Only problem I did have though is that when using a spell I couldn't use WASD. Using Firefox 53.0 (64-bit) if that helps for debugging.

sebbernery 2017-05-13 16:49

Nice entry. And, I played on Firefox without any trouble (v53 64bits on Ubuntu).

Simple mechanics, but they're executed well. I think you could make the difficulty ramp up a little faster at the start, as it starts of a little too easy.

gama-croma 2017-05-13 18:10

Wonderful!

simplepotential 2017-05-13 18:59

A very inventive little game. My only criticism would be is that I didn't feel like I could lose the game.

namrog84 2017-05-13 19:34

Neato! Great job!

One of the best games I played for this jam. The only complain is it doesn't seem to become more difficult over time. I lost eventually, but because I was too careless. And more spells! I want more spells!

Sweet Idea! It's like centipede meets a tower defense or something!
