- I was stuck in the first level several times, being unable to make a move after moving everyone to the left (from the bottom), then it worked if I moved the green girl first. - The movement animation is very slow and there could be a restart button.

mdotedot 2023-10-02 14:37

@ellaris : thanks for playing and commenting . Good suggestion on the restart button. I deliberately made the animation attempting to match the audio. Maybe that was a mistake and I should also have the tapdance sound be speed up. Again: thank you for your valuable feedback.

ellaris 2023-10-02 14:55

@mdotedot Another way would be to allow the player to make moves while the animation is still playing.

mdotedot 2023-10-02 15:11

@ellaris : I liked your idea of speeding up better. There is a client-server communication. The server decides if there is a valid move. But it is done fast and is not part of the reason why the animation is slow. The animation is slow because of the sound. And that is a bad way to look at it. I had it far faster and it felt better and that should have been my eye-opener to adjust the other thing. But in the time-constraint my brain wouldn't come up with that! Again: thanks a lot for your feedback and your thoughts!

kaimon 2023-10-02 16:56

Funny game but i would loved a restart button and a little more speed, although I have been stucked at level 3 (I'm bad at this kind of games). I don't know if there is larger bathroom or different layout on future levels but it would have been nice to see them !

alec 2023-10-02 17:41

The title of this game made me snort. Great sense of humor in this puzzle solver! I really enjoyed playing this game and trying to solve the different levels. It took me a minute to figure out that some dancers move in lines/as a group instead of individually. Maybe that's something you could think about adding to your tutorial to help players better understand the mechanics. Keep up the great work!

mdotedot 2023-10-02 18:31

@Kaimon : Yeah restart button and speed are on my 'be better'-list. The layout stays the same and there are 5 levels. But the replayability is in multiplayer where one could rearrange an even more elaborate puzzle to be solved by another. @alec : I had dancing girls and my girl friend responded to my question : what is a small space : the bathroom. I have thought about some way to visually connect the girls and I came up with highlighting them when you press on one of the girls. I initially had just thought about 3 girls either horizontally or vertically but the ' parent id' method I came up with suited multiple girls to be ' tied ' to eachother. Even not adjecent. I might use this technique in future puzzles.

Thanks both for leaving feedback and playing my game : greately appreciated!

ruben-rosenmeyer 2023-10-02 21:05

Best game I played so far :D I really like the silly humor. The puzzles are a bit tricky, but manageable. I haven't encountered any bugs, just the music seemed to has stopped at some point

glove 2023-10-03 00:20

A lighthearted sense of humor and a creative interpretation of the theme? Whats not to love! Its been said to death already, but gameplay is slow which unfortunately takes away from the rest of the surreal vibe. Still though, I enjoyed my time working through all the levels, really had to make me think! Great job, and it sounds like you already have learned some ways to improve this or future puzzlers :)

mdotedot 2023-10-03 04:09

@ruben-rosenmeyer : thank you for your kind words. Yeah after the time has past it fails to repeat .. didn't notice that before. Thanks for reporting! @glove: with a simple code change I can speed things up, but I don't think that is in the sense of the 'bugfixes are allowed' . Also the soundeffect should be sped up and I don't think that is allowed either. I have quite a few things on my list (both from here and from friends) to improve upon, but I love to hear more if you have!

endurion 2023-10-03 06:40

Rush Hour with River Dance :) Nice, but a bit too slow to move for my taste. Also, it would help if you could see the groups without holding the button. The stages do repeat after a while?

Still, well done, but not without flaws.

aligator 2023-10-03 08:07

You made a really nice puzzle game, I love the animations!

5mixer 2023-10-03 11:54

Great puzzle, but took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that the white rectangles are what groups people, not the colour or anything. Once I got that, quite fun, I used to play rush hour and had forgotten about it until the comment above. Art was, er, trippy :stuck_out_tongue: Were the particle meant to stay active in the middle of the screen? Nice entry

mdotedot 2023-10-03 12:42

@endurion : yeah too slow .. got that remark already! I thought about the group and I think it will be better if all girls that are in one group have the same color. Quite easy to search/replace in Aseprite. But thank you for your idea! @aligator: Thanks for the feedback! Apreciated! @5mixer: Yeah .. Same as endurion about the colours. Particles where meant to stay active (it is a GIF made in Blender)

Thanks for the feedback! As always I apreciate it!

cyber-puffin 2023-10-03 15:05

As others have mentioned the pacing is a little slow. One part that confused me was which groups of people were tied together and which were solo movers. At first I thought it was color-based (e.g., reds all move in a group of 3 or 4) but then certain ones were solos, so now I think it's semi-random. I think it might be good to give some visual indicator as to which dancers are grouped vs solo. Maybe they have toilet paper on their shoe linking them together or maybe their arms are linked.

mdotedot 2023-10-03 15:07

@cyber-puffin: Absolutely right : grouping with a visual cue! Ha ha .. toilet paper on their shoe linking them together .. I liked that !!! But I wanted have levels where the same kind of girls are a apart but move as a group. But I really like the toiletpaper visual : ha ha ha .. hope it will not be used toilet paper .. ha ha ha. Thanks for playing and commenting!

alis 2023-10-03 16:01

Fun one! Good level design with interesting puzzles, good idea for the theme (I'm biased because mine was a bit similar). I'm unclear why there are dancing people in the restroom, but all that silly humor made me chuckle at least :) Some (hopefully positive) criticism : * The gameplay is slooooow, which doesn't help to get a good experience as a player * The audio is bad taste in my opinion, I know it is a bathroom but was the pissing sound absolutely necessary? * The grouping between people that you move seems a bit random or at least is not immediately clear when playing

mdotedot 2023-10-03 16:05

@Alis: thank you for playing and commenting. Slow play is on the radar and I've asked for some testing results on either animation or if the multiplayer is impacting stuff. https://ldj.am/$380992 Is it pissing or washing hands :D but yeah I'm 58 and still a child. I removed the farts since it was a bit too much, but couldn't resist in to put some water stuff in. Yeah grouping is another thing on my todo list. Again: thank you for playing and commenting.

cogcomp 2023-10-03 18:33

The slowness has already been mentioned a gazillion times, but it's a nice game idea. A little more variation in the music with the dancers synchronizing to it would make it a bit more pleasing to look at while pondering my next move. The puzzles are understandable which is a big plus. Well done!

mdotedot 2023-10-03 18:38

@cogcomp: Thank you for playing and commenting. Music is where I struggle most so I will try to make better effort in future jams. Good catch on my weakest link :D

don-shinski 2023-10-04 21:29

I liked how the more dancers there were the tap dancing really came to life! I felt like I wanted to choreograph some irish dancing after that instead of solving the puzzle  nice job on the game.

mdotedot 2023-10-05 09:00

@don-shinski: Thank you for playing and commenting.

nick-rafalski 2023-10-06 01:43

Lol I love gamejams for games like this. What a silly and absurd concept, but yet, it perfectly encapsulates the theme. I dig the sounds (both the toilet related, and river dance related). Nice job!

mdotedot 2023-10-06 03:55

@nick-rafalski: thank you for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your bathroomtime.

sudocoffee 2023-10-06 19:42

The music and sound design here are extremely cool! I love all the different march/tapdance sounds for different sizes of people. The only complaint (aside from the slow movement) is that I wish I could see which people were connected without having to click on each one individually. The puzzles were simple but fun to solve.

mdotedot 2023-10-07 07:19

@sudocoffee: Thank you for commenting! Yeah, the connecting girls are on my todo list. In fact I'm working on it now for the 'post-compo' version. As well as the slow movement which will have an impact on the speed of the tapdance.

nadia-pixel 2023-10-09 19:42

I liked the animation, but I thick it's too slow. Most time of the game I only watch dancing girls, while I'd like to have more time for interactions. this is why the game begins to bore after 3rd level. I also think you could add more details to bathroom and girls clothes. But overall it's a fun puzzle!

mdotedot 2023-10-10 02:24

@nadia-pixel: yeah : slow movement is a quick fix but it isn't a real bug so I didn't fix it. Due to the compo submission time was limited. The multiplayer part and the dancing took quite a significant time to get right. Detailing the clothes on the girls would take adjustments on over 60 drawings. But thank you for the suggestion and also thank you for commenting and playing! Greately appreciated.

I definitely have a soft spot for HTML native games! On Edge browser I got weird icons showing on all the elements. Didn't get too far, but had fun seeing the HTML goofiness on display.
