Great concept, loved the music too. Haven't seen the victory screen yet because I'm so busy watching my dudes sitting in the bar I forget to intercept. :sunglasses:

@robstralia Thanks for playing! Yeah, these guys sit there way too often and way too long. :D
Great atmosphere! Audio and graphic style match together and set right mood for this kind of game. Difficulty curve is nicely done, at first it is easy to manage your colony and you learn mechanics and how to be efficient, but the bigger your base is the tricker games gets. Really nice idea and execution, well done especially for your first Ludum Dare!
Loved the game! I could play it for hours.
Wow! Nice entry for the Compo. It has a soothing atmosphere and very interesting emerging gameplay. Cool sound effects as well! Merging oldschool with the new.
The music in this is awesome! I should probably not build so many bars so soon but man, you have to party in space!
I wasn't able to get very far, I don't think I left myself enough resources to intercept the asteroids, but the game is fun and it seems pretty deep for having made it in 48 hours, so props to you, you must have not slept!
The music is awesome!!!!! I love the guitar playing so much that I can just listen to the music for hours ;D The game is cool, though I don't know why my people never go to sleep...
Music feels like rimworld :) It's nice to see some strategy games , fun game.
Amazing music!
I had some trouble not being able to scroll the screen back down again, and didn't get very far though. But the core gameplay is fun and it does really well at creating a 'believable' and living base with very small means.
Nice game, I especially like the music. The building system is a bit clunky sometimes and it is not easy to tell if you cannot build something because you lack the scraps or because it is blocked. Maybe just aligning the room to a grid would have made that easier. Also the scrolling is very confusing, I am still unsure what makes the perspective go up and down. I think it would be cool to control that scrolling yourself, so that you can always build something new at the floor. Otherwise its a very chill game with some potential. I could see it be really cool with some more room types etc.
Music is pure chill, the game was also fun :D
Great music (except the percussion part which isn't as nice as the rest :P) , nice visuals. Like so many strategy games the lesson always seems to be that people are expendable. Oh well, guess its a lesson that needs to be learned. Managed to get my little guys out of there in the end. Only criticism, it seems too easy to accidentally get the buildings out of line, not sure if that would stop anything working or not. Good job and congrats on your first compo.
I LOVE the music! It was a little confusing to get going at first, but once I got the hang of everything that was going on, it was really fun! Great job!
A very nice game with a great concept, especially done in 2 days. A few things though, there could be a better tutorial, something with less text. A good tutorial gives the player an experience on how the game works, rather than just a paragraph of text. The other thing is the building system, i like how you have full control of building placement with the mouse. Except it gets a little 'janky' when you build. Also for better player experience, you should implement a way to tell the player that they don't have enough scrap to build or that the build area is obstructed.
Anyway, if you ever have time, please do more work on the game, polish it up and give it the juice it needs. Would love to see it! Good Luck :)!
First of all: Thanks for playing to everyone so far! Good to hear that at least the concept I though up was good.
@neontropics: Hm, weird scrolling issue. Usually the scrolling is activated by moving the mouse to the bottom-edge or the top-edge. But I will look into it.
@wheerd: Read above about the scrolling, but you're right, I should have given the player keyboard controls for the scrolling. And a little GUI-element that tells the player why they can't build a new room should have been a no-brainer.
@automatonvx: Building out of line does not (or should not) impair anything. The only thing that matters to these guys are the ladders. As long as there is a ladder on their story, they can go anywhere they want because I made really stupid events.
@tyranosaw: Yes, I agree on the tutorial, but in the time I had I did not come up with a better idea. I would love to work on this game more, but I think I would want to start completely from scratch (because of some core-elements that don't work the way I want them to). And I don't know if I have the time for that.
The music is just awesome! Really top-notch for a compo, it sets a great mood for building under pressure.
My first colonies were 3 buildings wide but WOWZERS I could not stand up to the asteroids. Panning the camera up and down to scan for them was a little rough, and I wasn't sure what determined when I would click whether a blue thing would launch.
But I did stop a bunch of them eventually, and when I built my colony straight up in one column I was able to get a solid stream of income and win. I was mixing trying to stop asteroid with simply ignoring them and out-building the destruction.
So a bit of clunk around asteroid fighting but otherwise good look and feel! Nice entry.
Great music ! The gameplay is nice, although I think having to go up constantly to shoot asteroids was quite annoying, I didn't see the base a lot. I did not understand why they were never going to bed :P. So a lot of details to change I think but overall this is really good :)
I like this kind of game. I played for an hour or so. It was important for me to build them a lot of bars and after that I noticed that only a few workers kept on working, but all others go to bar :D And I could build really a lot of floors. May be that is why it was hard to wait, till all bars were ruined by asteroids in order to try to make people work. Anyway great job, I had so much fun :)
I immediately laughed reading the tutorial.
Good job on your game, congrats on the compo!
I really was looking forward to playing, but had problems with the mouse. When selecting a canteen it would be too far left of the cursor and I couldn't place it.
If I scrolled up I could never scroll back down again...
Will try again...
The music in this game was fantastic, and I love the story. Took me a while to understand what I was doing but when I did this game was really fun. Good job! I hope you continue working on this after the jam ends. :)
@cheesymoo: I never stumbled upon this bug. It's really weird. But I'm still working on it. If you are on Windows, you could try the version you can download (just uploaded it). Otherwise... yeah, I'm trying my best, but I cannot explain it right now. :s
I Played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_6NTcovuI0
I had some suggestions in the video, but they boiled down to, make the interface a little more intuitive. Make the intercept cost scrap, and make it easier to use where I don't need to press the button each time. Great job on a compo game.
Hi @OccultOne! Thank you so much for playing this on stream.
And thanks for the crticism, you're absolutly right about the interface and the interception. The interception element and the asteroids were actually a last minute inclusion and I will definitely try to improve on that in the case I make a post-ludum-dare version.
Wow, nice game! Love the music, sets you in the right mood, and gameplay feels just right. I didn't like the intercept system, and feel like there are too many asteroids keeping me away from my building and enjoying my station, but well, last minute things are always off balance, right? Good work, keep going!
Innovative entry! I Like how with entries like this, you can start to see emergent mechanics (like oh, I'm silly, why am I not stacking them, it reduces their exposure to asteroids!). So I thought the actual game was good. For it's music, it's not the sort of music that I typically like, but after playing the game for a bit I thought it worked. For me, the weak point was the graphics, but not so much the background or people, really more the tutorials text and stuff, it was a little difficult to read and understand the way it was setup. Still, the gameplay was very enjoyable. Awesome job! :D
Amazing music, fits perfectly! The game is really good. Fun to play! Good job
Nice game, was fun to play! Even though the asteroids were quite annoying at some points, they made the game more interesting.
Simple concept but it works great! I love the music and the mood it sets. Would be great to see it developed into a full game. The tutorial honestly was a bit TL;DR, so in the end I tried learning through playing, which didn't go so bad. Probably a lighter tutorial or tips system would feel easier for the player.
Very cool game, I specially like music, works very well and generates a great atmosphere.Took me a while to understand how stop asteroid, because ships don't appear when i click intercept button. Congratullations, you did a good job in just 48 hours.
Really cool vibe especially with the music. Interesting concept that worked well too once the bugs weren't present (downloading the exe like you said). Nice work.
A nice concept very well executed. Love the asthetics and the music fits well. The gameplay is simple yet fun, that could be easily built on with more stuff. The negative things are small and already mentioned.
But the fatal flaw cannot be ignored - the unreadable g that looks like 0 in the tutorial font. /s
Good little game! Good music and feel. I enjoyed building my city, but would have liked a little more feedback (how many people did I have? did I have enough beds, cantinas, bars?). Once I filled up my screen with rooms, didn't seem to be anything to do though. Got confused where whenever I clicked "intercept", it fired an interceptor at the top of the screen (probably from previous click on the intercept button, which did nothing visible), and then fired another one when I went to click on Bar or whatever.
Good entry, it's got a nice coherent look to it and some cool music. A bit more teaching of how to play, and some feedback when hitting the interceptor button would be great, I might be stupid, but I didn't make the connection between the blue ships and the button very quickly!
Well done, thanks for sharing!
Cool idea with a strong aesthetic. I think the asteroid interception could be improved; since the interceptors move across the top of the screen, I found it impossible to time interception. Spamming the intercept button seemed to remove workers from the screen, so I just let asteroids hit my buildings.
Really nice concept and you manage to get quite a lot done in the little time that was available :)
One thing that confused me at first was to understand how i actually get new works or if i get them (there was no game over after an asteroid killed them^^), Also as others have said the intercept mechanic was a bit hard to use, if you keep working on it maybe think of another way to trigger it than hitting the button? maybe some building which automatically takes care of some asteroids if a person is in there? :)
I really like the simplistic artwork as well as the sounds, you did a really great job :)
Music was A++. I like these types of games a lot.
Nice small game. GJ!
Really interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reOMZ5szx64
