LD38 — A Small World

Quantum by rwoeltjes 2017-05-05T21:48:38Z

Very interesting take on the theme! the gameplay is somewhat basic but it's fun for a while. In the end I came up with the same strategy as @shamps and it was quite easy from there... until I tried to go to the very corner and fell out of the map :) ouch!

The font is very difficult to read in the popup texts (at least in WebGL version, FullHD screen with Chrome), I'd suggest changing it for a more readable one. Some animations for Mr. Higgs would also make the game a lot more alive, I think.

Overall nice job!

A SMALL 「WORLD」 by Azargaz 2017-05-08T20:43:34Z

I really like the style, you put a lot of care in the moves and the animations, there are some really nice moves for such a small game, for example, the knives and the bike holding still in the air while time is frozen, and everything unfolding upon time "resume". Quite cool! Otherwise, I'm not into JoJo but I still enjoyed it, even though I don't understand why the slaughter of innocent people falling from the skies. Became a bit easy when I started to spawncamp.

Nice job!

Railroad to Hell by Ferminho 2017-05-03T19:54:57Z

Thank you all for the constructive comments! I wasn't expecting any positive feedback considering the current state of the game, so you really boosted my motivation to keep working on it!

I agree with all you said, most of them are things we want to address first for the next version. Unfortunately we had to publish with placeholders and worst of all with a gameplay that still needed polishing even for a first playable version, as you have noticed, especially better hitboxes and damage recovery process. Seeing it now we didn't even do a proper game description here, gee. I'll fix that now.

@tdennist I enjoyed Snowpiercer as well, but @heilfingd did come up with the concept without knowing it!

@sgstair the 1 in the bottom corner is the current cycle around the world, we didn't develop the idea further but we will. Yeah, currently is a nightmare to get just to cycle 2, I can manage just once in a while  the game gets EVEN harder with every cycle

Little Space by KevTukk 2017-05-04T17:56:46Z

Simple concept but it works great! I love the music and the mood it sets. Would be great to see it developed into a full game. The tutorial honestly was a bit TL;DR, so in the end I tried learning through playing, which didn't go so bad. Probably a lighter tutorial or tips system would feel easier for the player.

Moon Eat Moon by brandann 2017-05-06T09:35:48Z

Nice entry, concept is not new but still it is very fun and challenging, except when big meanies spawn right next to you :( hehe good work!!

Diminishing Lands by drazil100 2017-05-07T21:15:45Z

Very fun little game, the mechanic is nicely implemented, the controls and the feel of the character are quite good. The objective is what I didn't like, I'm not much into coin collecting. The game lacks some personality there, but overall I think you did a great job!

Small World by JimmyBG 2017-05-01T21:25:15Z

Had me hooked up for a while, VERY nice mood, mainly thanks to the good music and art. Very challenging when it starts randomizing the map - actually couldn't get past any procedural map, and believe me I tried hundreds of times! Maybe it's my spatial perception but I was deceived many times by the perspective. I think it needs to give information on the tile height, maybe by incorporating some mist at the bottom which makes the lower ones foggy, for example. Overall really nice work!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Idle Clicker by g12345 2017-08-09T22:31:20Z

Good clicker considering you did it in one day! only got to the nuclear plants, I guess it would improve with something more than numbers to keep you playing. Good work overall!

Modular Destruction Labs by SecondDimension 2017-08-02T21:44:09Z

Very nice concept, very fun! it made me laugh also with the uncontrollable slaughter and destruction :D it's the kind of physics game that can leave you hooked for hours, congratulations!! The only thing that is a bit out of place for me is the theme, you can safely forget about the time limit / power thing, it feels a bit artificial in the end.

Drone Supervisor by Jimbly 2017-08-09T22:21:17Z

Wow, good entry overall, very well balanced! makes you think a lot and try to optimize, it's hard to get the perfect combination! great work!

Legendary Space Space Space by Rahtainka 2017-08-02T21:22:35Z

I can't seem to play in either Chrome or Firefox, the intro hungs at the end (I will destroy their mining bases!) so I can't rate, I'm afraid. But I'll give you this, the intro seemed quite funny to me, because of the art and how you made the "stupid mass" the evil enemy, thumbs up for that!

Plagued Station by Mr_Field 2017-08-10T22:40:45Z

Amazing game! pity I fell in the moving crates zone and became stuck, even the monsters could not kill me to respawn. I wish I had been able to finish it! the music is awesome, the mechanics are polished, controls are good... a bit frustrating, I must say, due to far checkpoints and having to repeat some zones over and over (and the tram animation).

Reminded me a bit of Cave Story but with its own different style. Congratulations! great job

Pain That Binds Us by Jungle 2017-08-10T22:53:06Z

Wonderful way to tell the story. I'm really impressed. The mechanics were a bit simple but otherwise I think it's a real masterpiece, GREAT WORK!

Assault & Battery by superjai 2017-08-02T22:35:29Z

So far is the game I played with the strongest "finished game" feeling. Congratulations! I enjoyed playing it, it became challenging at some point, although it turned so much into a bullet hell that before it could get difficult enough, the game was lagging too much to be able to play. Starting level 7 I lost the sound for some seconds at the beginning of the level.

Regarding the mechanics, I think you got the basics covered, but the fact that turrets pile up and never break or get broken makes it too easy. Also it would be nice to find something when "exploring". Expanding the defending area seems to make no sense since there is no reward, and it's more efficient to put all turrets together and keep close to them.

Asides from that, good art and mood, no issues asides the lagging... so good work everyone!

Powercharge by Ferminho 2017-08-10T16:58:53Z

thank you everyone for the kind feedback!

@drachmor @toonteamj agree, it's difficult, but it's the only challenge the game offers, after all - watching the timing. I think more checkpoints would be too easy, but it's true we should give improve battery life (hehe) and/or give some more time to avoid obstacles.

@inventer99 @EX3 in the desktop version the sound is also affected by the current battery level, too bad the HTML port didn't support pitch distortion!

@pnkthrepwood true, me missed the retro manual booklet, would be a nice addition as splash screen :)

@gil4 I never had a b&w game & watch so I guess I was influenced when choosing the colors... hmmm I admit it would have looked nice...

I'm quite happy to see we managed to transmit our own nostalgia down with the game :) thank you all for playing

Robots from 1991 by dminsky 2017-08-03T21:18:36Z

Great style, good gameplay. Asides from robots I was unable to find the connection to the theme. The music was nice but I think it didn't really fit the style of the game. I had some performance issues but it's getting common with Unity web games, probably not your fault. Overall very nice entry, good work!

Berzerk Hunt by TheFunAttic 2017-08-10T20:53:49Z

Original way to fit the theme into a mindlessly violent and fun game :) the level of detail you put into the game is quite good! music doesn't seem to fit the mood a lot, but it's good. Overall very playable and polished, but I can't stop thinking a true viking would slaughter hordes of enemies rather than innocent bunnies! :D

Baby Space Saucer by Drew1888 2017-08-09T21:37:58Z

Crazy idea! loved it. The game mechanics is simple but fun in the end, only point I don't understand is the need to scroll with the keyboard - I guess it's for added difficulty, but some other "events" could work better I think. Some baby sounds would have fitted perfectly into the game by the way :) but the mother comments is definitely a nice addition. Good work!

The Quest for the Mighty Battery Charger by Solah 2017-08-10T21:01:03Z

You nailed the retro style, music is superb, and although it took me a while to understand what to do and how to kill the enemies, soon I was craving for more, too short I'm afraid! :) very fun and playable Also, a finished game with even a boss is not easy to find among the entries, congratulations!

Drain by morphine 2017-08-09T21:32:45Z

Very good game, I think the take on the theme is quite original and works pretty well. It was a bit too difficult for me, and having to restart from scratch made me give up after some times. But quite a nice entry, congrats!

Fat Fireman by xqwzts251 2017-08-03T21:27:27Z

I had fun playing it, the idea is quite original! no physical tests in the fire dept eh? although graphics and music could be improved (although I can't get the music out of my head, lol!), what it needs most is improving collisions and not being so hard!! give us some lives, or checkpoints, please!!

Power Tycoon by oparisy 2017-08-02T22:12:39Z

The concept is solid, too bad you missed one day! I finished it on the second run, it becomes too easy after the 2nd day, at that point it feels you don't need to do anything but wait. However, we know how this goes. With some more time you'd have polished a lot of details. I think you did a great job, doing this kind of game for a jam is a big challenge, and you managed to pull a decent version that's playable to the end. Next time I'd spend 20min generating some music and sound fx (even some quick abundant-music and sfxr effects are better than nothing!) Congratulations!

Soul Gun by EX3 2017-08-02T11:52:48Z

Nice entry! I really like it, the mood is terrific, music and retro graphic style totally match. A bit difficult, yes, I need to keep playing to get the hang of it. Good work!
