This had way more complexity then I was expecting. I liked being able to move a whole group of aliens forward at once. The game play was complicated but actually pretty intuitive. Nice Entry, great concept!

Compact but challenging game. I liked that you may have to move enemies if roll so says. Not sure if shooting should be random (hitting wall when there is clear path) when it is complex to reload and shoot.
I would say that this is more a puzzle game than action shooter. Could same mechanic be used in smaller (more compact) levels where you have to solve different groupings of aliens.
The gameplay was hard to understand at first, especially the fact that I had to move the enemies myself ^^` But after that, I found the game very interesting, you really exploited the theme well. And your pixel art is really cool, I love the color palette. Great job ;)
You have a good understanding for pixel art and color. Personal space 😂 (good find).
Sorry, I could not figure out how to play this :frowning2: There was too much going on for me to understand.
That said, I think the presentation is great. Fascinating color scheme, great graphics and interface design.
I like the presentation. I'm bookmarking this to try it out tomorrow after a good night's because it needs strategic thinking.
FYI: When playing the web view on windows in firefox, when I press D on the keyboard, it shifts the some of the UI right, along with the background tiles. I can't get it to reliably do it, it only happened once.
@sean-esopenko that's embarrassing... I forgot to remove a piece of test code which moves camera to the right! :face_palm:
@googlypoo Yeah I thought that might be a common issue (and I'm really happily surprised to see most people figuring it out). If you want to try again, just reread the tutorial part + look for highlighted tiles if you don't know where to click. It's a bit unusual game I guess, making a proper tutorial would take another 24 hours
Burger boy!! I had a tough time figuring out how to play (but I'm also very stupid so that might be a me issue) but the visuals and audio are stellar ^^
I couldn't get the game to start, the "Next Wave" button didn't do anything?
@lucydango If you can't understand the game, you are safe to assume that's the person who made it that's stupid, not you :D
@endurion I'm guessing you didn't notice how some tiles got highlighted (a bit hard to make something stand-out with this palette, sorry...). When you click "new wave" you will see how many enemies are supposed to come out (number next to your cursor) and "holes" in the ground will get highlighted. You click on one and then pick tiles around where you want the enemy to go. If you move enemy on top of another enemy - you have to move that one as well.
I think there is a bug, I can't really move or do anything after 'Next Wave'.
This is so hard to understand... And it's frustrating because it feels the game could be really fun, but unfortunately it's barely playable.
Nice graphic and sound, but I cannot play the game ; when I press D key, the camera moves, but I cannot find any other way to play the game. Can you write down how to play - or give some guides to play.
Quite hard to understand the mechanics at first. It felt like my clicks weren't always recognized which made it a bit frustrating to play since I had to click multiple times to make an action. Overall the game felt coherent and well polished!
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I'm still stuck. I click "Next Wave", basically nothing happens, I click on one of the three exits (holes), and then a tile beside it, but nothing seems to happen. What @surune said, maybe a short description on how to do the first turn would help. I'd love to check this out.
This has so much obvious polish and attention to detail (that wavy UI that comes in from the top left is super slick), it's just complicated and so I can understand people who can't get it going. The pixel art is great, the mechanics are interesting, and I hadn't seen any of them before, text on top of the cursor was cool and useful, and even the audio is good for compo
Two difficulties for me was realising I had to click on the enemy spawn points (you mention you control them, and start the waves, but I needed guidance to click on them - I clicked randomly until I realised) and the fact that clicking didn't seem quite right? I think you have to double click?
Amazing work, but just needs a little love so it's understandable and easy to interact with.
Interesting game! The art feels really good, and I like the music (even if it gets a little repetitive).
Unless I'm missing something it feels *extremely* slow to play? Once there are a few enemies out every spawn takes a few seconds of clicking to resolve, and playing out a full wave can take minutes. I don't really feel like I'm making many decisions during that time? Enemy positioning doesn't seem to matter that much since my attacks never hit more than one of them, and they always move closer to the target anyway. The real-time elements also felt a little out of place; I was pretty much always getting stuck reels before the 90 seconds became an issue, and the timing aspect of aiming didn't feel very impactful.
But still, it's a technically solid game that clearly does what its designed to do, and looks good while doing it. Good job!
@lorddaniel @googlypoo @endurion @surune I made a short video explaining the game - I hope it helps! https://youtu.be/jw9hVDPKjKc
@jrf @tjm @5mixer Game should be quick and you should have to click just once. If you have programs running in the background or a slow pc, the game will perform poorly. I will make sure to avoid making games with python in the future :)
Interesting variation on the theme, high rating for innovation from me! GJ
Quite hard to figure out how to play, even with the tutorial (props to you for making one !) graphics are gorgeous and the audio is quality as well ! I figured some things by myself on my second try and could play a bit ! It's fun and is a bit challenging good job !
Thanks for the video! There must be something broken in the embedded version, and maybe generally with the controls. Clicking on "Next Wave" simply does nothing in embedded mode. In full screen mode the lower right quarter of the "Next Wave" button actually did its job and the round started. I could select a hole, and again I'm stuck when trying to move the enemy. Funny thing is the mouse over effect (heart) does show properly at the expected coordinates, but I can't make the enemy move at all.
I have same issue with "Next wave" button: nothing changed and Action always remain Break... But I liked the art-style and audio)
And special + for Eminem reference =))
@endurion @mozokevgen Yeah I'm guessing you're both having issues with game ignoring your input because of frame drops. You could try closing background programs (or using another computer...) but not sure how much that would help. Thanks for trying though!
This game is absolutely beautiful! I love the simple but very nice and cute pixel art :D The sound design was also really good and fitting. I must say I had a bit of trouble with the gameplay itself. First of all, the game reacted very slowly to my mouse input. Sometimes I had to click multiple times for it to register at all. This made it a bit difficult to play, since there is a low of mouse clicking involved. There was also a lot happening at the same time, although I think I understood it reasonably well (also thanks to the very nice tutorial at the beginning!)
So unfortunately, due to the frustrating mouse response issue I cannot fully do your game justice, but it seems very intruiging for sure! If you ever find a way to fix it let me know and I will try again :D
love the style and polish of this one, really hard to understand at first but it was a ok after a while - I just keep thinking of Xcom but defending a burger and start laughing. great job on this one
I couldn't click on next wave for some reason, even though I heard the click sound
From the video you posted the game seems quite polished. I like the art style too. But there seems to be too many gaemplay mechanics it looks a bit complicated to properly get the hang of it.
Good job nonetheless !
i didnt understand it at all dude sorry, i rated you mid, like 3s, 3.5, but 4.5 for innovation cause it seems like new idea i never thought existed lol
I really liked the art, unfortunately, I don't know if it was my computer or it was a sort of bug, but at one point I wasn't able to move the enemies anymore, despite I was moving them. Furthermore for the reason I could move the enemies I didn't found the real difficulty of the game but maybe it's beacuse was difficult for me to move enemies (take a long time). Btw great job :)
I had massive performance issues on both Firefox and Chrome (feels like ~5fps). The music stutters, the controls are lagging (I need to click 3-4 times for the game to register it).
It looks like this game needs to be played using a native build. Are there any recommendations on how to run this game in this case?
I liked the premise, but I can't rate the game until I play it properly. If nothing helps, I could rate it based on the gameplay video, but it doesn't feel right. :)
@quasilyte I made a Windows build, maybe it will help (I'm not sure though...). If it still doesn't work, I see some people rating just graphics/sound if they can't play it. I'd understand getting a 1/5 for a broken game too
Beautiful graphics and good sound! Took me a while to understand that I should control the enemies. Fun concept
Liked the game! A bit overwhelmed at first by the whole UI & stuff. Otherwise, cool entry, really nice pixel art here.
Very nice concept, once I watched your video tutorial :) And the pixel art is lovely. I've had some issues with the web export though. It's very slow, and the music is choppy. Otherwise, great entry.
I didn't have any performance problems with the web build
Thanks for the explanations in the comments. It was hard at first to figure out the game mechanics on my own, but after reading a few comments, I think I'm getting the hang of it. This is one of those games where you really want to know how to play because the art just pulls you in!
This is an interesting game, however I feel like playing the player and enemy side creates a weird dynamic where you can just choose whether you want to die early or live a long time. The game was a bit confusing at first, but I managed to figure it out. I was also experiencing frame drops and input lag. The aside, the graphics are well-polished and this is a pretty good take on the theme, good job!
I'm playing with Firefox on Linux. After the tutorial it seems like most of my clicks aren't recognized. I had to click the wave button several times, same with moving the enemies. This makes the game very hard to play.
Thank you for the video and comments everyone, I was struggling to even figure out what to do after hitting the next wave button. As others have said, this is a _very_ interesting concept, and I think I could love it quite a bit! The art is gorgeous, the sfx and music is fun and sets the tone nicely, but the UI and difficulty curve... well, it's more of a cliff, at least for me. I couldn't get a higher grade than F. I also feel strongly that there are a lot of opportunities to use the map to present more significant strategic options for the player. Overall, a very impressive entry with a ton of potential. Nicely done! :tada:
The game is pretty cool, the gameplay and art works well. However like others have reported I had some issues clicking the tiles, sometimes it worked better when holding left click or right on the edge of the tile but neither seemed to be reliable. Managed to almost fill the map with enemies until I got too frustrated when having to click 10 times per enemy while spawning new wave :D Also didn't get too many reloads so it seemed like I would get overwhelmed quite easily.
Other than the issue with clickin the game seemed interesting and has nice graphics and sound. Well done!
The controller were extremely unresponsive when I played the game. Sadly it meant that I spent most of my time clicking like a crazy instead of playing the game, which made the whole thing quite difficult has you can imagine  I haven't try the windows version, it may solve the issue.
Otherwise the mechanic is quite original. Thanks god you made a video tutorial or I'm pretty sure I would have never figured it out on my own. It's a shame since you went trough the effort of putting a really nice tutorial in your game who is in the end not that informative...
I kinda liked your art honestly ahah, it is much better than what i could hope achieving myself
I agree with some comments that entry bar is pretty high in this game and it needs some time to shine. But you'll like it if you give it a go! I love how polished and finished it is. Outstanding job for such a limited time!
I like the idea of this game and that you can choose the movement of enemies yourself. But that being very time consuming I think enemies are spawning in much higher rates than I am able to handle. It definitely requires some strategy, but maybe one small suggestion would be to extend the wave timer or rework the stuck roll, since it does something like placing a new small wave, and enemies stack up quickly.
Other that what I just mentioned - lovely visuals and music and great idea and level of polish in execution. It's really hard to make a working game like that in just 2 days. Hats off
Thanks for posting the explanation video, that helped me figure out the rules :)
The art and audio create some great vibes, and the concepts behind the gameplay are awesome. I liked the real time aspect. It added a lot of tension to a type of game that normally wouldn't that (maybe similar to a chess clock).
It felt a little tedious clicking all of the enemies whenever they needed to spawn. You might be able to get rid of a lot of those clicks if you did something like the following:
* Allowed the player to select a specific spawner as an active spawner. * Let the player select available spaces at the edge of a group of enemies, then calculate how the enemies move in a line from the spawner to that point.
That way the player would only have to click once or twice per enemy, but it wouldn't change much about how the gameplay works currently.
Otherwise, I thought it was a really neat idea and I enjoyed playing!
I'm uncertain as to why everything shifts to the right when I press the D key, ha, ha! Nonetheless, setting that curiosity aside, what a phenomenal game! It's awe-inspiring that you accomplished all of this in just 48 hours, presenting remarkable graphics paired with harmonious music. The tutorial itself was quite comprehensive; while a video wasn't necessary, it's a very welcomed addition. I must extend my congratulations—a truly splendid game!
Very interesting game, I like the shooting mechanic, it is very original. Game is a bit difficult to understand (you control both sides, so I aunderstand that it is a local multiplayer game with shared controls), but very complex and complete for a jam. Nice entry!
This is a very interesting gameplay concept, but I'm not sure how well it works in practice. The fact that you need to roll two Shoot actions to actually shoot, the limited amount of ammo you have, and the fact that you actually have to aim and time your shot (which I didn't realise) all mean that you're killing enemies at a snail's pace. I spent most of the game just pointlessly moving back and forth, watching helplessly as the enemies just piled up and up and up while I couldn't do anything about it. The amount of micro-management you have to do - manually spawning and moving enemies, manually rolling after performing an action - just adds to the tedium.
The graphics and music are brilliant, and overall this is very complex and polished for a Compo entry. I can see what you're trying to do here, but I'm afraid it's just not working for me.
I love this game art style and game feeling;but it is too hard and complexity for me xD
Nice game. Beautiful graphics. Thanks for adding the video explainer, made the rules of the game that much clearer. Good work!
I thought it might just be me but I read some similar comments. I get a little frustrated when I can't play a game here. The browser is completely stuck here, the music plays a little stuck, the arrow moves a little slow, I couldn't play or do anything. I didn't understand what to do, nothing happened.
Very impressive 👍
