Great job. The slower speed of movement side to side means you need to choose carefully when changing directions.
A little frustrating that friction with walls pushes you up (and not just direct wall front on contact), but I guess that's part of the challenge. Good job.
@5mixer There's a trick to it but I think part of the fun is figuring it out
Nice game!
I feel like I'm missing something here because I reach a certain depth and hit obstacles that I don't see a way to clear because there is just too much horizontal distance to traverse in the given space. I think there must be a way, but I wasn't able to figure it out. Perhaps warming players up to that kind of thing with the same thing but slightly more space to work with before that would help? I'm not sure since I never found the answer. The visuals were clear and good, but I would have appreciated to have one keyboard press to reset instead of two mouse clicks every time I died. Cool simple game, well done!
Was really fun, and quite challenging, after a bit I realized I could launch myself off corners if U did it right and get some extra downward thrust before inevitably being swallowed up by the top of the screen.
I like the simplicity of it! The physics felt a bit strange, but I did get the hang of running into the bottom corners to go further down :) Nice job.
A nice simple straightforward arcade game. I made it to about 35,000. One thing that could've made it better is if the difficulty ramped up more faster. Good job!
Cool idea for a game! The movement mechanics felt a bit weird, the fact that you need to move down by running into corners doesn't feel particularly good.
Seems like there is an issue with the y position not being fixed. Cool game.
I played it a bit more last night after submitting and made some changes which change the way it plays quite a bit. https://soclosesam.itch.io/drop-2-grab link here for anyone interested in the new changes.
Really appreciate the comments from everyone so far and I welcome any future critiques as well
Nice little game! To be honest the first version was almost impossibly difficult, but I just played the updated version and it's much better, almost feels too easy. Well done on the game and the improvements!
It's a fun and simple game, well done! Some powerups would be cool though
really enjoyed playing this simple game, well done.
I think you could have the beginnings of an interesting game here if you: 1. Decrease the difficulty curve. Make it easy to start with so the player can learn the mechanics. 2. Include instructions or otherwise "teach" the player in-game how to play. I had to read the comments above to realise there was some sort of boost from the obstacles. 3. Increase the feeling of control. The balls continuous linear movement following a single key press made for a feeling of being out of control. Directing the ball where you wanted involved a lot of key spamming. That's fine if you want that as a player experience, but in combination with the above two points (i.e., it was hard to learn), it made for a punishing experience!
I played the second version as well and can see you changed things a lot, but I've rated you on the first version!
Well done on completing the jam and go well with your newer versions!
Very minimal but interesting, like being caught in a world of strange forces, a very special space that gave me a very different experience ~
Maybe a bit too minimalistic, but I did enjoy playing with the corners to gain downward momentum :)
It's minimalist but not bad, knowing that it is a component game, the game is interesting and rather fun, even if we can regret the absence of sound effects.
Fist, i didn't understand why i am dying. Then i understood, but couldn't make some of the harder movements. Then i read the comments. I woiuld have liked a litte feedback for the player to show what is happening with the circle. Maybe a spinning effect or something.
I like your first version better btw.
