LD48 — Deeper and deeper

not a gaem by euske 2021-05-01T22:22:47Z

I actually scored you quite high on humor for this!!! Mysteriously, SPACE, C, E and SHIFT all made the player jump... I found that part of the fun was exploring my keyboard to discover this! I have it in mind that I should suggest other game mechanics, but alas, as you state, it is not a game. Although, I will confess that I don't know the subtle differences between a game and a gaem. I think there's a realm of surrealist games out there waiting to happen. Perhaps you are game Magritte... Ceci n'est pas une game. I will view and rate anyone's game who gets that reference. Just ping me here!

Rock Monster by Myko 2021-04-26T08:12:31Z

Good fun. Very satisfying once that ball was rolling and you're churning through rocks and dirt! Satisfying also to collect stuff. I found it frustrating that the win/fail state seemed to depend on taking that fun mechanic away. The fun part should remain I think. Make its win/fail states dependent on something else perhaps? Great work in a short space of time. Reminded me of an old DOS game called Digger.

Gundemonium by AkirAssasin 2021-04-27T09:44:48Z

Loved the silhouetted art style. Simple mechanics invited a lot of replays because I wasn't burdened with having to learn a complicated control system. Satisfying and appropriate sounds too. Very nicely done. I found initially that dropping down levels meant I was shooting at the ground. I wonder in a future version, when you drop, if some assist to the controls could reorient your firing target direction to be lateral rather than down. Great stuff overall! Well done!

Project Orpheo by zondarg 2021-04-26T01:57:28Z

This was cool. Thanks for a fun experience. I got 160+ m deep last time I thought to look. I diffused the device but then died on my ascent! Pretty epic vibe - reminiscent of old school games. The weight of the suit was great - just right - easy to get around but requiring some skill for finer maneuvering around obstacles. I did feel the need for some more agency or control over my environment at times. I mean I would have liked to be able to blast some stuff! But I understand that wasn't the vibe you were going for. Great effort for a weekend. Keep up the good work!

Abyssus in Anima by Tygrak 2021-05-05T06:36:18Z

I liked the idea of the separate minigame for combat. I didn't know what I was supposed to be doing in the fight against the heart - what were the blood / exclamation mark icons? Was I supposed to collect them? Some parallax background would to keep the player aware that they're moving down that long corridor. Good luck for the jam!

Recursio by loyance 2021-05-13T08:28:46Z

This was very cool! Well done! Liked the minimal art style. Great concept with some lateral thinking needed to solve puzzles. Loved the realization I could reorder the puzzle tiles with my mouse! Maybe future versions could have moving bad guys? Good luck for the jam!

DeeperDeeper by japes 2021-04-27T08:02:10Z

Really fun concept. This is because you are asking the player to learn how to balance three competing/interlocking things: 1. Oxygen level: If it gets too low, you fail. And oxygen goes down commensurate with effort exerted by the swimmer. 2. It is less effortful to swim down than it is to swim up, hence the relationship between effort and oxygen changes depending on direction. 3. Dive as deep as possible and return.

Overall the above makes for an experience, which, after failure, really invites the player to keep trying!

That's very clever! Well done! Love this concept and loved working out why it was good!

Also - I was impressed by the depths reached by some people on the score board!

Altum by tigerfinch 2021-05-13T23:37:54Z

Impressive that you created a 3D game in such a short time! Simple graphics were fine, but the ship seemed to take up a lot of the screen space especially when moving slowly. Unfortunately I don't have a game pad and was using keyboard and mouse. It was exceptionally difficult to control. Perhaps some attention to the control scheme would go a long way - maybe more airplane-like controls with WASD? Well done!

Into the Castle by groverburger 2021-04-28T09:40:42Z

Wow this game needs more ratings. Well done. So much attention given to the important details. The way shooting the weapon pushes you back... The wall jump mechanic... Just excellent. And thank you for concentrating on these *important* details over things like graphics polish etc. The visuals are actually good but it's easy to tell you put real effort into the mechanics over everything else! Well done!! :)

Astral Abyss by darthone 2021-04-26T11:00:34Z

Cool concept. Music was atmospheric and fit the game. I liked the art style - planets were well rendered. Were they procedurally generated? I was curious about what was "out there" which spurred me on. I felt the controls got in the way a bit. I really wanted to hold space and move my mouse to pan the camera around rather than using WASD! I think it's a common enough input design pattern that players would expect it. I didn't quite get to understand the paper/rock/scissors mechanic. It wasn't clear to me what would beat what. Really interesting overall. Well done on a productive 48 hours!

Dukes of Debt by binroot 2021-05-18T10:57:37Z

You have the guts of an interesting idea here. Alas, I think there are some bugs that prevent debts from being paid? Also - I didn't understand why I should chose a particular option (fight vs. borrow). Some explanation of why the choices were relevant would have been good. I seemed to be able to walk off the map into nowhere which was confusing. I'd love to see a more polished version with tighter instructions! Satisfying to win a battle with a bigger army! Good luck for the jam! :)

GriDelve by fixxel 2021-04-27T08:52:03Z

Stunning visual style. Very curious about how you achieved this look. I zoomed right in to check out the textures!!

I found the absence of explanation got in the way of a complete experience.

Great work for a short jam! Well done!

Nuclear blaze by deepnight 2021-04-27T08:39:37Z

Wow. Excellent!! Art style beautiful. Fire and water effects beautiful too. The lack of sound/music didn't detract.

I would say it's a little repetitive after a while - I stopped feeling like I was finding new challenges.

Don't forget to remove the swearing from the kid friendly version!

Infinity Dive by keepee 2021-04-28T03:17:08Z

Best game I've seen yet in LD48!! Super original mechanic. Hoorah for true originality! :) I wonder how it can be improved? Perhaps the line qualities change over time? Or you can modulate the difficulty by directing the line over powerups? Really great stuff. Rating you super high!

Deep in hell by katamary 2021-05-01T22:29:59Z

Amazing amount of work here. I'd love to know what filters / effects you've applied in your image editor to achieve the look. It's incredibly consistent. Crude shapes and bold framing suit the brash (violent, fast paced, hellish) theme of the story, so a great marrying of visual and narrative style. Well done.

I get a JS error on the screen with text "CHEDDAR of course!". I cannot progress further. It happened on 2 out of 4 attempts to play. Chrome on Windows 10. Here's some of it:

Fly Brie To The Moon by candlesan 2021-05-15T06:10:32Z

But apart from the above, cute game with cheesy ;) puns!

God's Arteries by Gunturtle 2021-04-26T08:41:16Z

Cool visual style. Music was fantastic and suited the old school vibe. Character art was really minimalistic and clever too. Difficulty level was off the chart for me. Not used to games like these so it took me forever to get past the spikes at the start because I couldn't figure out the wall jump. Fortunately I knew it was possible by looking at the gif!

GRAPPLE the Abyss! by lectvs 2021-04-27T10:09:17Z

Fantastic. Cool grapple mechanic. I stopped playing at the lava section though because I couldn't beat it! There was a bug in the instructions / tutorial screen where I couldn't consistently grapple upwards. I'd love to see a version of this that was slightly more forgiving, not necessarily setting you back when you got damaged - therefore improving the flow for less skilled players!

Dwarf Deep by aevek 2021-04-26T04:33:46Z

Amazing effort for a short jam. Well done! Loved the stylistic pixel look. The music was atmospheric and suited the game well. I found it a little confusing at first at the store, but once I was in the water and swimming / drilling I was happy. I think the difficulty curve was too steep. I wanted to swim around and explore and collect stuff, but I was constantly forced to find bubbles, taking me away from what the game seemed to need me to do to progress.

Meditation Journey by schwede 2021-05-18T10:50:30Z

Interesting idea. How could it be made into a game? (I don't think it is one yet.) Perhaps you have to breath and catch thoughts at the same time - that way introducing an element of skill! Or perhaps you have to remain focused on breathing while being distracted by thoughts? Cool idea. Good luck for the jam!

Rooted by Webox 2021-05-01T22:11:59Z

Very cool game. Amazing achievement for a short time. Liked the coherent art style. I thought the controls were clever and with some tweaking could be really good - at the moment they get in the way of fun a little. Specifically: - When you reach a water node, you are forced to pick a new location to start your root from - why can't it just pick the closest one for you so you can get on with the game? I don't think interrupting the player like that makes for a good player experience. - Getting set back to the top of the root is frustrating.

Apart from these minor interaction gripes, solid gameplay loop! Well done!

World Eater Jormungandr by Dilem 2021-04-29T00:56:30Z

Graphics are nice. Wish there was a more zoomed out version so we got to enjoy its kaleidoscopic quality more. How about some enemies that chase you around, or that you chase around? Keep up the good work!

Clear Your Mind by Quoclon 2021-05-03T10:01:25Z

Control system far too hard. It left me with a sense of not being in control. I'd suggest being able to move the brain around - effectively like a bat that you can hit the emotions with. That said, this is a neat idea for a physics based game. Hopefully the next version will take these suggestions on board!

Chuck Challenger: The Hunt for Malpractice Mole by Phlip45 2021-05-03T10:04:06Z

Interesting platformer. A suggestion would be to have the camera not move so erratically - stay more centered on the player. Also, the movement was pretty slippery. Perhaps a tighter control system? Good luck for the jam!

Jupiter II by Wheffle 2021-04-28T02:10:50Z

Great atmosphere. Great design too - I wanted to go deeper to find out what was down there! Good tension too as the level progressed and I found myself missing battery packs - I was genuinely tense about running out of power! Thank you for making the scanning mechanic actually meaningful. The player could use it to find out what was hostile - the little fish for example. A pet peeve of mine is scanning mechanics that do nothing but enable you to see what's around you! Neat that the light scared them away. I was pleased with myself when I figured out the "just swirl your torch around and around" technique to keeping the light-sensitive fish away! I would suggest decreasing the length of this level somewhat - it was repetitive, especially at first. I also thought the difficulty ramped up too fast after a certain point. Great work overall. Thanks for a fun experience!

the sunken place by RomeRomey 2021-04-29T11:06:28Z

Killer difficulty curve! Loved the simplicity though. Your notes about the music track made me want to keep going - but I didn't get to hear much (because of said difficulty curve)!! Well done for a first game!!! :D

Deeper And Deeper by hypp 2021-04-29T20:37:43Z

I discovered you could remain in the map screen and play that way. Much easier! Cool programming project to do something like this. Well done! Minimal style perfect for this style of simple "technology demonstration" game. I wonder could future versions capture your rotation on the map? Would be easier to remain oriented when flicking between map and "3D" mode then. Well done!

Bloogy by Keppu 2021-05-01T22:49:29Z

Great stuff. Amazing achievement for a short jam. You obviously know your tools really well. Pardon the pun. ;) Like the art style - big simple shapes, blocky. Biggest problem for me was the sensitivity of the controls. The playing space was constantly moving as you dug deeper. So, with a moving playing space (the column of earth) and the requirement being that the player must hover over specific areas to direct where the digging happens, my "cursor" was jumping around all over the place meaning I didn't feel in control. I've been trying to think how you could iron this out. Maybe it could be as simple as deemphasizing the sound effects as the cursor moves so as its not so jarring. I'm not sure. Solid effort though. Well done! :D

Asquid by Omid Ghavami 2021-04-26T10:43:15Z

I played 2 levels. Really weird abstract vibe. I don't know if the audio was glitching to me or if it was intentional but I loved it. All those beautiful octaves and other big bold intervals - really cool. I would not have known what to do if I had not read the above comment though. Some instructions would go a long way! Loved the abstract visuals. Procedurally generated I assume? The movement of the various bodies was well done too - in a swirl. I had a very quick look at the source code but there's thousands of lines there! How was the look and movement achieved? What engine did you start with? Very curious about this!!

Ancient Civilizations by ForeverTrash 2021-04-27T08:13:31Z

Well done on completing the jam! This game is a rendition of a classic theme/trope - descending into the depths to fight awful things. Well done for exploring the idea! I felt curious about what else might be down there (but was disappointed reading you only had time to create the mummy). I was intrigued by the shop (actually, the shopkeeper). I wanted to know would he alert me to useful things as the instructions and developer-note guy did. Future versions could explore more of the story element as narrated by these characters!

I would try for one or two completed mechanics done well rather than lots of things only partially done. I can see you acknowledge you couldn't finish it all!

Submergence by TomekS 2021-04-26T03:33:39Z

You have the basis for a sweet game here. I retried several times because I wanted to see different fish! It's a neat gameplay hook (pardon the pun) to silhouette the fish types up at the top... it made me want to find them! I only saw 1 type of fish though. That leads to my first point of constructive criticism - with such a slow vessel and inherently slow gameplay, perhaps you need to have the different fish types appear sooner?

At first I thought I was playing a 2D game - it was neat to notice that in fact the surrounds were in 3D, and my vessel too (only visible once I crashed into something though as I seemed to rotate around the Z axis somewhat)! I would say that the map is too close in color to the background - it wasn't always easy to see what I could collide with and what I couldn't. I wasn't sure why my vessel was destroyed by the bubble stream thing. Maybe something to signal it's dangerous?

I'm not a fan of canned choir sounds in music, but actually, it suited the overall pace and vibe of the game.

Well done and keep up the good work!

Also - any game with some boid behaviour gets a +1 in my book... ;)

The Deep by TheMoonrise 2021-04-28T08:42:33Z

Really interesting. Thanks for a unique experience! Very hard to control and the absence of instruction, although obviously intentional to encourage exploration of the various systems, I found to be frustrating ultimately. Perhaps a next version could have a "basic mode" with instructions or the "true experience" for those that want it. Different players want different things I suppose! I liked the depth scope with the wavy lines - very cool. Would be fascinated to know if you actually modelled a 3D environment which is sensed by the sub's systems. Keep up the good work!

The Deep by TheMoonrise 2021-04-28T09:31:48Z

@theheheo Very impressive that you modelled the environment and got sensing systems working. Must have been super fun to code. Thanks for the response! :)

Drop n Grab by samguy 2021-04-27T07:50:25Z

I think you could have the beginnings of an interesting game here if you: 1. Decrease the difficulty curve. Make it easy to start with so the player can learn the mechanics. 2. Include instructions or otherwise "teach" the player in-game how to play. I had to read the comments above to realise there was some sort of boost from the obstacles. 3. Increase the feeling of control. The balls continuous linear movement following a single key press made for a feeling of being out of control. Directing the ball where you wanted involved a lot of key spamming. That's fine if you want that as a player experience, but in combination with the above two points (i.e., it was hard to learn), it made for a punishing experience!

I played the second version as well and can see you changed things a lot, but I've rated you on the first version!

Well done on completing the jam and go well with your newer versions!

Bunny Bunny Dig Dig by ZakAmana 2021-04-28T03:09:06Z

Amazing art style and level of polish. Very curious to know what you started with to achieve this polish within 48 hours. Let us know. I found the constant battles against bats to be frustrating for 2 reasons: (1) repetitive, and (2) the wait time before (about 1.5 seconds) and after (about 2.5 seconds) each battle. It's just waiting - never fun. I would say make the battle start instantly. Also, remove the "winner" and score popup to show what you gained after the battle. Just indicate you got something with a chime and go straight back to gameplay.

Arcade Deep Space by New Puldrix 2021-04-26T05:03:31Z

Very cool. I liked the concept of the portals bumping you down a level. Once I realised I could click and hold to travel it freed things up a lot for me. I was intrigued about how you gave it the 3D look as you travel through portals. Is it a pure 2D game or is it actually 3D?

I wonder would a bit of inertia to your vehicle improve the overall feel. Sound effects would definitely add a lot too. Game froze after a few minutes. Ship was stuck in place and turned black in colour. :( Great work for 48 hours.

Deeper-Geddon by heidelbert 2021-04-29T09:13:42Z

I hooked it up like in the gifs but the conveyor belts wouldn't connect from refineries to the rocket. So I couldn't progress in the game. :/ Nice art style though! :)

grGRIDid by John Gabriel 2021-04-26T11:12:56Z

Cool mechanic. Would love to see a version without the game breaking stuff! I found that I could walk onto the larger tiles while my character was shrunk. I wonder could you make a fractal version with grids infinitely diminishing in size. A world of possibility opened up by this game! Well done!

Going Down in Fishstory by Jonas Tyroller 2021-04-27T19:44:11Z

Wonderful art style, true to form! I was disappointed I couldn't use the trackpad buttons on my laptop because I cant click both left and right at the same time. Some modification to the control scheme might be worthwhile! The larger fish were truly terrifying when first encountered! I played to the end and thought the story arc was great. No mention of our dead friend at the end though! :/ Great work for a short jam!!!

The Sounds of the Cavern by LoicLeGrosFrere 2021-05-13T23:38:58Z

I played the original version. I got stuck in the floor when descending the rope! Oh no! Tutorial could be spread out over a longer period of time and give you a chance to experiment with the different elements. Good luck!

In Search of Paradise by Magnanix 2021-05-01T22:37:14Z

Played HTML5 version in Chrome on Windows. Game almost in complete darkness for me. Didn't understand the relevance of the relics or which I should pick, given I was warned I could only pick one per area. Holding right (D) and attacking played the attack animation in the wrong direction. Cool concept though, and I loved the glowing character model. Quirky juxtaposition of a baseball bat/swing on a more ethereal fantasy world. You have something here, alas it seemed something wasn't working for me.

Dig World by kuviman 2021-04-27T09:00:06Z

I played the single player web version. Seemed like it would be a fun quirky little number and it surely was!

I couldn't figure out how to get back to the surface once I had dug really deep though! The thought of placing blocks to do it seemed like it would take forever! Maybe some elevators? (Unless I'm missing something!!)

Extreme Deep Sea Fishing! by Sbug 2021-04-26T08:27:46Z

Cool idea to physically simulate the net. I enjoyed how feisty the sharks were. One of them rammed my sub. Also attacking other fish - I like a good simulation! I'd love to see a finished version of this with better net physics so you really feel in control of it. Great work!

Titan Abyss by PROJECTaroid 2021-04-26T03:49:01Z

Well done. Definitely a game about atmosphere. At first it didn't register with me that I was on Titan. I could see the other planetary bodies though - and immediately thought - oh cool... I'm underwater on Titan and I'm looking up out of the water at another moon, or Saturn. Great moment.

Music is excellent. Set the mood immediately. Dark, ominous, epic. And the visuals matched this. So +1 for overall mood!

Gameplay - I found 4 samples before the power ran out! The samples were hard to see until close due to the murkiness of the surrounds. That's fine but it would have been good to have some way to know in what direction I should look - a sonar could be a good addition.

Keep up the good work! :)

For King, for Freedom and for Law! by Douwe_Ravers 2021-04-28T02:28:48Z

I've been to Leuven! Amazing amount of work for a short jam. I was impressed by the behaviour of the battalion forming up around you. Satisfying lock n load sounds made for a good bad-guy-slaughtering experience. I made it out of the first section with only 3 soldiers though! Music was repetitive unfortunately, but hey - 48 hours! Great work overall. :)

To the Center of the World by Dimini Inc. 2021-05-13T08:33:38Z

Did I just play a one button game???? Wow! I only pressed down, pausing for the enemies to move out of the way. Boring. But at the same time oddly satisfying! Well done! I wonder what improvements could be made while retaining the one button mechanic? Maybe pressing it in specific rhythms or tempos for different abilities? Good luck!

Space Dwarf Alchemist Go! by BlackOpsBen 2021-04-29T20:07:20Z

Cool concept! Sci-fi / fantasy crossover has a proud heritage! Nice to a see a nod to it. The theme had a sort of Dune vibe to it - collecting something weird from the universe to achieve incredible things. I wasn't sure why I was equipping my ship with weapons - was it under threat? As soon as I equipped the weapons they seemed to start firing at things, but I had never been attacked prior, so I'm not sure what was happening there. Above a certain level it wasn't balanced - I was just able to continually able to grow every aspect of my ship unhindered. The ship visuals were obscured by the lines of light after a while. Additionally, it was so zoomed out I couldn't see my ship. I don't think there was an end-goal? I imagine a future version with levels where you have to reach certain distances corresponding to moons, planets, or other outposts, and facing unique threats. Overall, I really liked this as a concept. The underlying architecture is obviously solid, and with a bunch of balancing and the addition of some other mechanics it would be a really great game! Keep up the good work!! :)

Tunnel Rats by GeneralSturgeon 2021-04-29T20:22:52Z

Great stuff. Well done! Nice addition of the tutorial! I found the difficulty to be quite high. I would have liked a slower ramp up in the difficulty curve - maybe by spacing out the worms more at first or increasing the width of the tunnel. Would love to see a version with tunnel branching and a minimap! Endless possibilities for improvements to this! Well done again!

River, Carry Me Away by Noire 2021-04-28T08:28:09Z

Evocative atmosphere. You leant into your strengths - creating mood with graphics and music. I "played" for several minutes but alas I didn't really find a game. Would be fantastic if in a future version you had a mechanic over and above point and click. Great work overall! Well done!

Hellivator by Billnotic 2021-04-26T04:23:06Z

Great graphics style. An amazing amount of work for a short jam. Well done! I found the controls really hard to master. Not used to these types of games so it could be just me. I would have liked them to be more forgiving so I could more easily recover from falling into deeper holes. I was needing to do tricky double jumps to get out, taking forever!

Captain Zapdash by Nazorus 2021-04-28T02:57:24Z

Thanks for a fun experience! Simple mechanic well executed! Would love to see a version that is more zoomed out and you have to dash across the environment in longer distances, perhaps to collect powerups etc. Great work!

Falling Rock by snip_man 2021-05-01T22:42:22Z

This was a fun experience! I liked the "ah-ha moment" as I figured out I needed to use jump when on vertical surfaces to push me past certain obstacles. I think the smallest change you could make that would improve the experience is have the camera let the player see ahead. In its current implementation, the player is basically blind as to what is coming up so cannot actually make any strategic decisions about when / where to jump. Overall, a solid little physics-game concept you have here! Well done!

Afraid to Turn by rhoff95 2021-04-27T10:20:17Z

Great game! Loved the art style. The wolf was genuinely scary with its red glowing eyes. Never quite figured out throwing though! I wonder is it possible to improve the control system to make this easier. I wasn't sure what the glyphs in the bottom right were. Great work overall! Well done!

So Deep in Space by KeyLime 2021-04-26T04:06:06Z

I will admit to not reaching the first planet! Things I really liked: minimalist style and the drum sounds. The drum sounds were high quality and suited the overall vibe. Kind of a cool juxtaposition to pair scifi with a tribal pre-technology soundscape. Nice riff on a bullet hell game. Maybe it's just my fingers but I found the controls to be too sensitive. And maybe it's my brain, but I found the asteroids to be too fast! I noticed a bug where you're sometimes invincible if you remain at the bottom of the screen. Well done overall.

Hometown Helper by DWink 2021-05-01T22:15:50Z

Definitely one of the "weirder" entries! Weird in a good way! ;) I liked the quirkiness of it; I found myself wondering - what was going through the dev's mind as they were creating this?? Yes you had a time constraint, but even minor tweaks to the graphics would have improved things greatly. Overall, interesting text-based game with great potential. I imagine a future version with images of the various characters and scenarios - could be quite an amusing way to go! Well done!

Asteroid's Ahead: Double Trouble by AR Borno 2021-05-03T10:14:17Z

Very hard to control! Constantly hopping around by pressing the space bar to collect gold. I noticed the text at the bottom of the screen after a few tries - it's too close to the background color - hard to see. I only tried the campaign mode. Hopefully a future version will have a more controllable rocket! Good luck for the jam!

Miner Rescue by mjbelanic 2021-05-02T10:26:54Z

Cute gravity game. I liked the concept of a drilling machine! Seemed to be a bug where I would get momentarily trapped at the corner of a block. Also, the levitation was a little slow to get off the ground. Maybe future versions could have a fully mineable environment - not just grey blocks? Keep up the good work!

Khazads by vsi- 2021-04-29T08:58:16Z

Unintuitive control scheme. I would have preferred you to move along the axis defined by the mouse rather than the arrow key cardinal directions. Your control scheme was non-standard and not what I expected from a keyboard and mouse game. Also, you made me wait 2 whole seconds each time clicking buttons to get to and from settings and controls screens. It should be (at least nearly) instantaneous. Don't get in the way of the game! The controls screen made reference to a crossbow but I didn't have a crossbow. It wasn't obvious I was being attacked by the skeletons because they didn't look like skeletons and I couldn't see the first one because it was hidden behind the UI. Their projectiles were small and hard to see against the background too. I thought the prologue with the character talking was a good mood-setter; well done for that. Obviously a lot of work went in to this so hats off. I think with some improvements and more attention to the fundamentals could see a great improvement to this game. Keep it up!

Search for the Undergem by FluffyGameDev 2021-05-13T08:23:44Z

A good polished job for a short jam! Well done! However, It seemed possible to completely box oneself in by the tunnels you burrowed meaning no way to progress. A jump mechanic so you can jump over tunnel entrances on the surface would be a good addition! Good luck!

My Dentures! by Luc-creationallabs 2021-04-26T03:14:09Z

I played this a bit. It was much more fun once I realised I could use spacebar to drop - you left this out of the instructions! I noticed the mouse highlights squares too but I couldn't click on anything.

I should have started with a compliment... This is a really interesting concept and the art style is very well done - minimalist but not without sophistication. Great job! The gameplay is fun - I think the animations and sound effects are a big part of this. The drop in particular is really satisfying - the way the levels tween upwards as you drop - it's beautifully timed. I found using arrows to move on an isometric board to be confusing. Maybe mouse is a better option? I see what you mean about randomly generated levels - I didn't get the sense the difficulty was related at all to my "level". Great work for a weekend though. You have the guts of a cool game here. :)

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-26T01:39:31Z

Interesting concept. How are you measuring tone? I'd be fascinated to know. Google scholar will be your friend with this stuff. https://scholar.google.co.nz/scholar?q=text+emotion+words+database+narrative+analysis&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart

[Edit... Ok I looked at your source a bit... it seems like you used some kind of text analysis library? Is that right? How does it work?]

Asterisk by Crychair 2021-04-27T07:30:36Z

I liked: - Rad blackhole image. - Nice play on words in the game title! - Voice acting was great! Funny! - The art style was great and the character movement felt good. - The filtering / volume change in the music track at the start was a nice touch. It felt great as it became more present when actually starting the game following the intro.

Suggestions: - What is the point of the sonar mechanic? I understand that you need it to find objects, but why hide a sense (vision) behind a key press? The ability to use sonar is infinitely available anyway, so I wondered why I needed to keep pressing a button to see my environment. - I found the bomb behavior hard to predict. Some bombs seemed to go off randomly for no reason and others did not detonate. This apparent randomness had the effect of me feeling not in control of what was happening.

All up - a great effort! Well done! :)

Dive & Dig by andrewkennedy 2021-05-01T22:56:30Z

Infuriating that the popups occupied the same space as the game area and required a click to dismiss, the same click that was required to operate the vehicle. It just meant that the gameplay was irritatingly interrupted constantly. I wish I could say I played more of this because it did seem intriguing - balancing air and temperature, but alas this game-interrupting flaw made it too stressful. The art style was well done - you obviously have a talent for this pixel style. I'd love to try a version where you let the player actually play rather than continually interrupt them. Hopefully there's a version 2! Good luck with it! :)

Rootss by antonishig 2021-04-28T02:36:35Z

Fun mechanic. Some more feedback could have been good about what was a possible drag move and what wasn't. I found lots of my drags didn't work leading to frustration. You have the prototype for a really cool game here. Lots of opportunities for expansion! Well done! :)

Into The Depths by Jason Wilson 2021-05-13T23:05:03Z

Well done! I read your bio - must have felt good to get back into coding for a while! Neat little game. I liked the simplicity but quality execution. I would have liked W as the swim up key - that would have been more intuitive. Maybe respawn points? It felt brutal to set me back to the beginning when I died! Good luck!

Deep Salvage by TerraReef 2021-05-13T23:29:22Z

Impressive to get a 3D game done in a short time! Clean graphics. I felt it was quite slow. A lot of time spent swimming between boxes not doing much. The WASD / space control system although fine, wasn't very intuitive. Part of this was the need to control the camera separately. It made for an overall difficult experience. Maybe you could revisit the control scheme in a future version - the mouse could be for direction, the keys for strafe and back/forward - like a 1st person shooter? Well done! Good luck!

Panda Prize Pusher by PhthaloGold 2021-04-27T08:26:37Z

$345 for a panda??!! ;)

Neat physics simulation. Very well polished art style too. Well done!

I could see this being made a great deal more fun if you sped it up. The main slow-down for me (and subsequent cause for frustration) was the reset time on the plunger. Additionally, the little sliding platforms that get in your way just slowed me down.

Yes, I can see you want pace/timing to be a part of the gameplay, but the *fun* thing about the game is blasting the cute toys with the pushy thing. Anything that gets in the way of that (its slow reset time / the platforms) just takes away from fun. My two cents!

I wonder what this game would be like if the cute toys deformed somewhat when struck... could be interesting!

Great work overall!

Lord Of The Flies by PixelPortalz 2021-04-26T04:16:22Z

I played this in browser. I loved the use of some pseudo-flocking behavior. I enjoyed the realisation I could drag and attract the flies! I would love to see a version more zoomed out and with more stable / predictable camera behavior.

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-26T02:30:56Z

@pookipoot Thanks for your kind words!

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-26T03:56:51Z

@zondarg Hey - thanks for your comment! I'm chuffed you went the extra mile to download it and look at the source code. Slaving the individual notes to the timing was a key part of this. It caused me the most headache on the first day! Well done again on your game!

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-26T04:34:37Z

@aevek Thanks for your comments! I totally agree - I should have included more key possibilities.

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-26T04:37:25Z

@corbeng Thank you for your comments. You are exactly right - I need to tweak the mechanics to let the player stay in a flow state - great idea. Also - less of a slow down would be a great way to do it. Thanks again!

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-28T09:28:56Z

@antonishig That's a REALLY good score!!! Well done!! :D Thanks for commenting on my game too. :)

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-28T09:29:32Z

@darthone Good suggestion... Version 2.0 will include this! ;) Thanks for commenting.

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-29T20:08:27Z

@paulloz Thanks so much for playing my game! Really fun watching someone else play it. I appreciate it, man. :)

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-29T20:09:14Z

@generalsturgeon I like the idea of multiple splits and obstacles! Thanks for your comment! :)

Dig Deep Get Gold by Tim77 2021-04-30T01:31:36Z

Thanks @cavedens. Can you elaborate? What in particular did you find interesting? Is there anything you think I could do to improve it?

Knee Deep in Magma by Venezia 2021-04-28T02:30:32Z

I enjoyed the trampoline mechanic! It was slightly frustrating that I got set back so far when I died. More save points would be good! I noticed the magma hit boxes were fairly forgiving too - thanks ;) Well done!

fallen_down by iuunno 2021-04-26T07:35:55Z

Interesting game idea. You got me thinking about how to make an abstract game look like you're actually falling. It's easy to flip it in your mind and imagine you're falling upwards, or even just travelling sideways along a tunnel. You also got me curious about how to create an infinite 3D space like that.

The Fall by junkajii 2021-04-26T05:08:03Z

You have the start of a potentially cool game. Love the art style for the character. Mechanics tweak possibly needed - I found it really hard to reach some of the items in time. Perhaps slow the whole thing down somewhat?

Acceptance by wooliii 2021-04-26T07:53:47Z

I didn't play all the way through but maybe about 4 puzzles in. Well done. A lot of work for 48 hours! I liked the difficulty ramp up in the puzzles I played. The last one I tried was actually tricky! I found it a little frustrating at times that when the character tweened to its new position, I was clicking for the next position but it didn't respond. It could be improved by having a snappier input scheme for the movement. Keep up the good work. Would be good to see a more polished version one day.

Damn, that's deep! by Falke 2021-05-03T10:08:39Z

Game kept resetting back to the start for no reason I could figure out. This would happen after about 10 seconds of gameplay. Seems like you have a game-breaking bug? Chrome browser on Windows 10. Hopefully you can fix it!

Fish for Meaning by Steve Johnstone 2021-04-26T01:11:21Z

I don't know if you intended it but the mechanic whereby you plan out where to go in "wraparound" space is quite cool. I didn't realise I could use it at first but thought it was neat when I noticed it. You could tweak the physics to make the sub more responsive - it would add a lot to the game play I think! Well done.

Kikker Kerker by kleingeld 2021-04-26T11:17:40Z

Loved the art style. Liked the stepped level design. Would love to see a finished version with combat mechanics and a story!

B.R.E.A.K - Bad Robot Enjoys Attacking Krew! by pxlshk 2021-05-05T06:42:55Z

Tidy little platformer! I missed where the barrier raised on one occasion meaning I couldn't figure out where to go. Would have liked a little more speed in the left/right directions. Overall a great effort! Well done!

You Better save the Internet! by tucan 2021-05-05T06:28:13Z

I played all the way through! Good stuff. Well done! I think the control system needed some work - to try and vary the speed a bit / make it so you're not piloting inverted. Maybe a more asteroids / thrust / lunar lander type of control scheme with inertia and gravity etc. Well done for a decent overall game though - you had levels, a range of mechanics (lock & key, enemies), music etc. Quite complete! Keep up the good work - I hope to see an updated version with improvements some day!

Gulp! by GoodGamesJames 2021-04-29T11:07:46Z

Disgusting! Had to stop playing after the first collision!!!! ;)

Dig Deeper by Incal 2021-05-02T10:21:32Z

Tense game! Unfortunately a bug where I was sometimes able to move left and right to occupy the same space as a filled tile took away from the experience. I like the concept of only being able to dig down and needing to reach open areas to move left or right. I wonder if a future version could have some sort of powerups you find (maybe seismic charges or something) to slow down the lava? Keep up the good work!

Moth extraction by rhys_vdw 2021-04-26T08:06:23Z

I gave you 5/5 stars for humor!!! I extracted the moth... Sweet relief indeed. But then I smacked it right back up there as I was wangling the hook noodle around. So far up it went off the screen! Gah! I'm curious about how you did the moth wing movement? It seemed physicalised somehow. I envisage a bigger game with a range of unpleasant extractions and other procedures needing to be performed. This game was a breath of fresh air! Well done!

Moth extraction by rhys_vdw 2021-04-26T08:44:28Z

@rhys-vdw Thank you for the response! Really interesting!

Gold clicker by thefireflyer 2021-05-02T10:16:31Z

My understanding is that I needed to click a lot! A fun concept - digging deeper and deeper by clicking. Digging deeper into my repetitive strain injury perhaps? Kidding. Obvious improvements would include making it more obvious what was required at the start, and improving the look and feel. I actually quite like the 80s sci-fi synth music! A nice touch! Good luck for the jam!

Caves of the Forgotten by CorbenG 2021-04-26T04:53:49Z

Nice pixel style. A super relaxed vibe about it too which I enjoyed. It would add a lot to reduce the duration of the rope climbing animations. They currently take 6-7 seconds - a long time to wait! Great work for a short jam. Well done.

Into Conflict by C4Scar 2021-04-29T01:06:15Z

I have no idea what was happening! Which country was I? Blue I assume? Sometimes the population read something like 65/19 - what did that mean? I could click on things but what was I clicking on? Territories? Countries? Cities? I liked the minimalist style and the overall idea, but I think some more explanation / instruction would have gone a long way. Keep up the good work!
