LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Tension by JustinMullin 2021-04-28T03:34:46Z

First off, the mood is awesome. Really atmospheric sounds plus the ominous undertones of the narrator. The grapling hook mechanic was a little confusing at first, but once I got it it seemed to be pretty engaging and fun. I think the wind-up is too long though. You could easily add in a grapple-swing-release-grapple mechanic that would be very fun, but it's not possible with the current wind-up time.

Overall, really well done ! Keep up the good work :)

GriDelve by fixxel 2021-04-28T03:17:58Z

Good concept, well executed for the jam. I thought your character design was really cool, I just wish the camera wasn't so zoomed out so I could see it better ! Also the Depth of Field was a little too extreme, again making it hard to see your cool characters. Overall, great work !

Dungeon Depths by MaximBegunov 2021-04-26T07:56:41Z

The game is so good ! I don't think I've played anything quite like it, at least the way its presented for this game jam.

The only bummer thing is that the controls make it border-line unplayable. I'm bound to get a cramp with how you need to maneuver to get the timing right, and I keep missing ropes because of how the grab key is positioned. Maybe have the space button be jump AND grab? The mid-air float is way too vital to have to choose between floating and grabbing.

Great work, you did an amazing job.

Dungeon Depths by MaximBegunov 2021-04-26T08:08:04Z

@maximbegunov Honestly, if you release a v2.0 of this I would totally play it. It has the same satisfaction as some of the other classic "run-die-repeat" games like Super Meat Boy. I could see you coming up with some other cool mechanics too as far as level design.

Micanthul by alexhall 2021-04-28T03:02:12Z

This is so good ! Definitely one of my favorites from this jam. The art, the mood, the music, the narrative, they all were so well developed and immersive. The game play was pretty average, but I don't think that matters honestly. If this was fleshed out with a real narrative I would play the heck out of it. This has a very Darkest Dungeons vibe, so maybe look to that for inspo on how gameplay can support the larger narrative structure which is the real meat of the game.

5/5 !

X Feet Under by morphine 2021-04-28T02:43:18Z

This is so cool ! Great work on the mechanics, and the polish. There's some user experience and design stuff that I would do differently, but that's just personal preference.

However, it seems like you used a lot of stuff from one of your other games [Colliderscope](https://morphinegames.itch.io/colliderscope). I looked at your source code, and a lot of "dates modified" of yourfiles line up with January 2019 when Colliderscope was released onto itch.io. You should probably disclose that you reused source code and/or assets because people will think you made all of this during the 48 hour jam.

X Feet Under by morphine 2021-04-29T03:57:51Z

@morphine Thanks for the disclosure ! Again, it's really not a knock against you or the game. The rules say you can use whatever base-code you want. You had files from 2018 and 2019 that were not part of the Standard Unity Assets though. So, without explicitly stating what your base-code is, there's no way of knowing what you did and didn't do during the jam.

Anyways, I already gave you a nice rating prior to this because I think the game is great. I appreciate you freely sharing all of the source code and receipts. Keep up the good work !

Colored Roots by PlusMinus 2021-04-26T08:05:23Z

Wow, you did such a great job !

The puzzles were very well made. They got to be very difficult by the end. The root generation was fun and satisfying as well.

While I did appreciate you adding commentary on the sides of the game, it did kind of through off the vibe a bit. Not a huge negative, I was just so immersed in the rest of the game that it kind of took my out of it.

Good work !

Dyb by Ratrat44 2021-04-26T07:45:45Z

The art and vibe is super fun !

The music doesn't really match with the mood though, and it would be nice if the enemey aggro would reset when you respawn at a checkpoint.

Other than that, there's a great framework for a fun dungeon delving game. The stealth mechanics as your primary means of defeating enemies is a nice change of pace from bonking goons' heads.

Savestate by Monkosum 2021-04-28T02:54:36Z

This was super addicting ! In the beginning I enjoyed not being punished by failing at platforming, it alleviated a lot of the stress that comes from platformers. When you introduced the save-spawn mechanic, I thought it was a really good mechanic conceptually, but I'm not sure I would play something like this to the very end. Once I was in a loop of dying-spawning-dying-spawning in rapid succession, it became a little overwhelming and not as interesting.

With that being said, I think the premise is awesome. You could totally push this farther with new mechanics that take advantage of your save state system to keep it really fresh and interesting.

Great work for 48 hours I'd love to see this pushed farther :)

Crystal Core by Thomas_Bringer 2021-04-28T03:07:09Z

So cute ! The graphics were great for what the game was trying to do. Some nice Astroneer vibes. Gameplay could have been a little more interesting. Maybe some additional mechanics as you make your way deeper into the planet ? The music was really nice as well.

Good work !

aphorism.io by JetTheSimon 2021-04-28T02:26:27Z

Very cool idea. Reminds me of cards against humanity and those other judging games. It's a simple concept, but from the framework you've built there's definitely emergent gameplay that happens from user submitted content. Good work on the multiplayer.

I wish there was matchmaking since I have no friends lol

Thought Box ....? by anandev 2021-04-26T07:25:51Z

The graphics were really fun. I liked the see through brain and the thought-lights. You have a cool basis for a meditative game ! It'd be great to see it polished. Maybe you can treat it like a memory palace or something. You can write down thoughts and then link them together to make clever associations you wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Good work!

Duskwood by Voidsay 2021-04-26T07:39:04Z

There is some great mood and ambiance with this game.

However, I think the gameplay is lacking considerably. The pacing is just too slow, and the stamina bar depletes very quickly and then takes forever to come back. This wouldn't be a huge issue, but when you have a walking simulator with low-action points for days, you need to make sure the player doesn't feel like it's a chore.

Graphics were really fun though ! When everything was hitting its stride, it was very enjoyable.

Astral Descension by nyxkn 2021-04-28T03:13:18Z

Yesss, such a great vibe ! The game play was fun. I could see you pushing the memorization mechanics even farther. There's lots of room to grow this idea.

All of the pieces were hit in stride and came together to make a really cohesive piece. Good job!

Deep Dive by ForsakenBacon 2021-04-26T07:22:31Z

The lighting was really cool ! It'd be nice if there was a web version, maybe try and get one online ?

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-26T07:21:40Z

Hm I couldn't seem to get the game to run. It looks like you worked really hard on it though!

Unto the Eight by Threeli 2021-04-28T03:22:48Z

Makes me feel like I'm playing a spiffed up version of frogger. The gameplay was very fun, the atmosphere was very well done, the music was very fitting. I feel like you could have on-boarded the player into the mechanics a little better (via a show-don't-tell approach) Just because it's emulating old-games, doesn't mean it has to replicate their bad habits. No knock against the jam entry though, it's a lot to get done in 48 hours ! Great job !

Thanks to anyone for playing and leaving feedback !

Acceptance by wooliii 2021-04-26T07:41:14Z

@Anonymous and @jack-woodcock yah totally. If you read the postmortem, you'll see that I mainly had time to spend on getting the engine built, and was limited on actually setting up difficult levels. Thanks for the feedback !

Acceptance by wooliii 2021-04-26T07:51:19Z

@adamsmccall Thank you for the feedback ! The idea is for the movement to be tweened to the beat of the music, so thank you for pointing out that it feels slow as is.

@gilborn thanks for the feedback ! I'm bummed that the levels had to be so simple for the Compo entry, but I really just wanted it to be the framework for the larger piece. I definitely have some fun mechanics in mind, and will keep you updated for a v2.0 !

Deep Sleep by Brad Make Games 2021-04-28T03:35:51Z

My game's about hypnosis too ! Good work, fun story, I'm very down with the graphics. Overall, a great job !

Robo-Driller by Famicon80 2021-04-26T07:32:44Z

This was cool ! The sound effects were a little wild, but the gameplay was very classic. I could see there being a chain mechanic for a point multiplier. Good work!

Apapon by Occasoftware 2021-04-28T03:30:20Z

Great idea for a game ! Reminds me of downwell or vvvvv. I think you hit all my points with your comment above. I could see you developing this into a much longer game with more mechanics. Very addicting ! Good job :)
