LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Brickwalled by exilegl 2021-05-11T04:38:27Z

Simple mechanic and as people said it was really satisfying especially when you got the higher grab range upgrades. I really like the graphics (the lighting gave things more of an HD look I don't know how to describe it). The large variety of monsters and their different designs was also cool to see. The background music and sound effects were very well made too. Only thing is, and as many others have pointed out, is the lack of a real obstacle in the game. Maybe you can add obstacles but maybe you wanted to make it a chill stress-relief game, in that case if you added more walls and made it infinite then it would be gucci. Either way it's a really well made game, satisfying but short, just the gameplay needs to be expanded on (that's to be expected of a LD game of course though)

Scriptless Pipes by Turkey 2021-04-26T08:37:33Z

Heyy I dont know if you remember me but it's hoobit I tuned it to your stream a couple of times while you were working on it, it's actually crazy to see all the new levels and the project coming to life! Even after seeing it already on the stream it was still kinda hard (esp. the math one) and engaging, and I love that you challenged yourself to just HTML and CSS and made it work.

Diving Ball by sonicpixelation 2021-04-26T04:55:34Z

original concept, intuitive controls. I really love the sound effects. Nice game I could kill some time too. There might be a little bug where you won't fail if you hit the platforms on your side though.

Diving Ball by sonicpixelation 2021-04-26T06:17:11Z

@sonicpixelation No, it bounced off slightly after the side hit the platform (if I recall correctly it even made a sound effect). It was a very slight touch so maybe it didn’t get picked up in the collision.

Speleo by H0pe86 2021-04-26T07:48:04Z

Nice clean game, I like the art and the sound in general (the water dropping was a nice touch) it's actually pretty frustrating at first but that's on me I failed the level with the 3 corridors on the last rat and I wanted to rip my hair out. But that's what makes it a compelling game even with such a simple concept. The tap controls (can't hold down) and lack of grid is non-traditional but I wouldn't say it's bad, it adds to the unique-ness to the game.

Clear Your Mind by Quoclon 2021-05-03T02:44:25Z

Nice simple game and well executed! Was easy to get into and there's definitely a skill curve, it was actually tough to get the balls to move how you wanted. But I got quite lucky a lot of times by balls randomly bouncing off the back of the brain into their zone. Overall a quite polished game - clean graphics, ui, fun sfx and good music, it's just that there's not much gameplay - and you probably know that already judging by your todo list (but it's a 48hr game jam ofc that's to be expected). The game has a lot of potential and if you implement the things on your TODO it will be great! :D

DeepSea by Chensu 2021-04-26T07:38:33Z

wow, the graphics and sound are incredible. The game reminds me of Deep Rock Galactic (just the mining). Your game is very relaxing, swimming around and collecting minerals except for the controls that tilt the ship to the side and of course the missiles but that's to be expected. I would like to see some quests or something maybe, some other objectives.

THE SUBMARINER by Ian Kettlewell 2021-04-26T04:44:48Z

Challenging but satisfying game, i like it! my favorite part was spamming down the group of little fish in the small corridor. killing the big dude was took a while but i eventually got it :D

Pressure by smt 2021-04-29T09:35:28Z

Really cool game, I like how it was very simple to get into, plays like a traditional fps but its unique in a lot of ways as well. I actually liked the clean and simple graphics and 8-bit sounds, they all fit together in the theme you were going for. For the gameplay itself it is fun and challenging with the wavy movement of the enemies making it harder to shoot them. Like people have said as you go deeper because of the randomly generated levels it starts to get stale but you can't really complain bc the theme is deeper and deeper so it makes more sense to make it infinite. And anyways more enemies are added to make it difficult so it does get a lot harder though to add replayability. It was a nice touch to add healing off of combo kills and long range snipes also, rewards more skilled players. Overall really incredible game I cant believe you made it in 48 hours.

Deeper Into The Mind by michaelyount 2021-05-04T02:53:41Z

It's a really fun, cool and challenging game, I'm just not sure if I was doing damage to the bosses but apparently I was bc i completed the game. But it's a really easy fix to add UI to display health of player and the boss. Other than that it's a very complete game with clean graphics sound and mechanics. I can see the connection to the theme because you go deeper to face new bosses, but maybe the connection to Deeper and Deeper could've been stronger as well. But overall very polished game and enjoyable to play.

LD48.DeepHunt by fabonacci 2021-04-30T07:21:12Z

Nice simple game. Usually stealth games make me nervous but this one is oddly relaxing and satisfying, probably because of the nicely drawn night background and calming music, and the fact you don't get instantly fail when spotted. Overall a really polished game with a straightforward theme. And you made it with your own javascript game editor, very interesting and impressive!

This is the best i could get :( I'm not very good at the game. Those damn paper airplanes..

Anyway probably my favorite game yet, everything from the comical and original story, goofy art, funny sfx reminds me of an old Nintendo Game or something. The game is really polished for something that was made in 48 hours. The upgrades are a nice touch too although I'm not sure if I'm using the slow down upgrade right because it doesn't really help you once it gets really fast. Overall it's a really nice game although very challenging lol.

Shovel by Inno 2021-05-03T02:52:12Z

Simple game that's really fun! It's an obvious concept for the theme but no one would ever think they could make a game out of it and you did. well executed as well, the controls leave room for skill expression and it seems like it could be an actual game that people could kill time with. great music too! nice game

Now you see me by Haiyoooo 2021-05-11T04:18:51Z

Really interesting concept with the light, makes it really challenging and fun. The art and sound is polished and ties the theme of the game together. Overall everything about the game is really great - only thing is the text font could be changed to something that's less plain and fits in with the the theme more like someone else has said.

Ruby Hunter by bkmld 2021-04-26T22:07:17Z

Really cool game and concept of using the frequency of the sound. However I have to close the page and reopen to play again, after reloading once the sound doesn't play and when I find the ruby it says my speed was infinity pixels / s

Low Pipe by SpaceGuinea Productions 2021-04-26T04:03:46Z

I turned the blood particles above 1000 and the bounciness to max. big mistake. Anyways, fun game, the attaking is simple but feels really satisfying because you need to hit the enemies while avoiding hitting them. I feel like the upgrades could come faster though to make the game a little more fast paced.

Search for the Undergem by FluffyGameDev 2021-05-02T21:23:06Z

Super polished game, the gameplay lasts considerably long (probably the longest I played a LD game so far) and you don't get bored of it. My only complaint is that the upgrade that makes you faster is a little misleading at first, I thought it actually made you slower bc the upgrade said "slow walker" at lvl 1. Other than that a super complete game, everything was great: the gameplay itself, thoughtful upgrades, the UI and tutorial which made for a great user experience, the responsive sound effects. Maybe if I were really picky I could see some improvement for the graphics/animations but the simple look currently is already good on the eyes. Overall such a well made game

The Ocean's Treasure by Anirudh Munipalli 2021-05-02T03:53:37Z

Hey fellow Java developer :D I like the concept behind the game but it's not very hard to play and not very satisfying. There's nothing really stopping you from collecting all rubies, it's just based on where the gems are randomly generated. There needs to be more obstacles/mechanics so it challenges the player in some way. Also just a little thing but the graphics can be improved by making the backgrounds transparent as someone else mentioned. Overall its still a fun game just needs some polishing

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-26T02:28:51Z

I love how the dude rolls into scene :D the concept is great, analyzing user input is really interesting, love the talking voice. Hard to figure out what works though, but it's fun nonetheless when you get the so deep haha.

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-26T04:50:34Z

@sonicpixelation Hi so sorry you couldn't run my game. I think I used Java 15

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-26T06:19:35Z

@sonicpixelation Thank you, I will look into using an older Java version when I get the time. It seems like other people also have a hard time running the game as well

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-26T19:49:05Z

@yourfather-milk Thank you! :)

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-28T08:39:11Z

@pierce-brooks Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm figuring out how to fix it. but thank you so much for playing my game :D

@smt Thank you so much! :D

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-29T09:13:44Z

@xpoho Oh, sorry for the error. Make sure the .jar file and the "res" folder are in the same folder. The error is happening because I hard-coded the path for the image files in the res folder so the res folder has to be in the same folder with the jar. Like this:

Hopefully that works!!

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-29T09:53:02Z

@xpoho Thank you so much for playing! It means a lot :D

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-04-30T18:07:04Z

@roboolet Yep definitely, I would've liked to make the art more polished and add sound and UI but unfortunately was stuck too long on fixing bugs. Thank you for your feedback and playing my game though :D

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-05-02T02:49:35Z

@hugison Thank you so much for the helpful feedback! Yeah the game is actually quite ugly in my opinion and didn't look how I wanted it to but have to prioritize the code:D. And also yeah I kind of went overboard on the acceleration now that I realize it

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-05-02T23:29:32Z

@gamedev-and-architecture Thank you very much! Yeah I aimed to make the concept as simple as possible so it would be easy for people to play my game but I also didn't want to overwhelm myself on the side of making it either. Glad you enjoyed it, even though there are a lot of flaws :D

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-05-04T02:45:27Z

@michaelyount Thanks for checking my game out :D

Super Jackhammer by tomn114 2021-05-11T04:20:06Z

@exilegl Thank you! Yes I will definitely be adding high scores and improving the hud as well. thanks for playing :)

EveryDay by xpoho 2021-04-28T09:42:31Z

I like what you did with such a simple concept. dark theme with graphics and sound to go along with it, simple controls. Love the unexpected days that come along(it's what really makes the game) but as others have said I wasn't sure if the last "the end" was actually the end but I guess that leaves it up to interpretation. Fun short little game, very unique :)

Low Notes by mhorth 2021-05-02T03:36:16Z

I really enjoyed the game! Challenging at first, the notes flowing in overwhelmed me but I eventually got used to it and it was really satisfying like most rhythm games. As people have said before though it isn't really enjoyable when the pitch of the song goes deeper, kind of takes of away from my concentration and it overall kills the hype. But obviously its the whole point of the game and the connection to Deeper and Deeper so I can't really blame you. Plus it is a really unique concept and take on the theme so bonus points and it creates more of an incentive to hit notes to heal back your hp and restore the song back to normal. Overall I like the game in general, how it plays and feels like a well polished game (I assume the updated version is even more polished). My only gripe is that the connection to the theme feels a bit forced but it doesn't take away much from the game.

Lime Snowfall by Pierce Brooks 2021-04-28T08:51:08Z

I liked the graphics, really unique 3D effect! I couldn't find the flashlight though, I was stuck in the room with the guys shooting me cuz I suck, I'll try again later

Into the Mines by Hugison 2021-05-02T03:08:34Z

I reached the end in 11 minutes (I suck) :D One of my favorite games I played so far the difficulty is very balanced, sometimes I would slow down too much and sometimes went too fast and went straight into a wall or even landed on a platform with dynamite once. The mechanics were interesting to figure out which kept me playing the game until I reached the end. But anyways about the game everything is very polished from the art, physics, soundtrack, sfx. If you released the game as an app on mobile devices I wouldn't be able to tell it was made in 48 hours tbh.

Troublesome by Roboolet 2021-05-01T02:08:41Z

As others have said before the driving controls took a little getting used to, seems like its opposite of what you would expect (S/down -> forwards instead of backwards). Other than that it's a unique take on the theme which I really like a lot. The free-roam style makes it a lot more fun, but would've like more space to wreak havoc lol. Overall a well polished game, I like the graphics style and theme.

Shovel Miner by YourFather_Milk 2021-04-26T19:55:12Z

Nice game! Tough at first to find the pixel perfect gap to move your player but it's satisfying at the end. Also not sure if it's a problem on my end but the window was very small and I couldn't resize it.
