LD42 — Running out of space

Reverse by Goutye 2018-08-22T18:11:29Z

this is one of the best, if not the best game i played at this game jam. it's just the most finished and polished game i've seen. this one of the two games i played, that had no issues. the difference is, that this game has a way better system and is just more fun. you shouldn't make a post jam version, since this one is already perfect. if you want to continue working on this, then make some new elements, more levels, and make this a full game!

ExplodyOS - Defeat the Virus by Ltven0mI 2018-08-14T09:57:34Z

It's a shame that the 3rd minigame isn't implemented. The game is really short, but neat. the biggest problem is that it's nothing new, it's just old games, but i like the concept of playing them to defeat the virus. if this game had more minigames with some of them being unique, this would've been a really awesome game. but even with 2 minigames, it's neat.

FIREBALL by SaraJS 2018-08-14T09:11:19Z

The biggest problems are definitely the lack of singleplayer and the fact that you have to play this with 2 controllers. But besides that, this game is pretty good. the animations and sprites look really good, the gameplay is really innovative, when the camera moves, it moves really smooth.

Zecury by fingamer 2018-08-14T11:03:43Z

besides the ground and the dying animation, this game looks amazing! the music tracks are also great and they really fit the situation. The Story was good, but you should be able to speed up the cutscenes like in the backstory. The biggest flaw of this game is the end. The meteors were just unpredictable, the hitbox was to big, and i was even hit by one that was off-screen! but it is still a really good game. I'm impressed that this is a game jam game. this seems like a week or more of work. good job!

The Arena by ZenriS 2018-08-14T18:29:50Z

the game itself has a neat concept, but also 2 huge mistakes: the mouse sensitivity is WAY too extreme and it's 1st person. if it would be 3rd person, the aiming would probably be a bit weird, but you could see where the enemies are shooting at. but besides that, this game is pretty good. the soundtrack is short, but it does the job, the approach on difficulty is interesting, since you don't only have to battle more enemies, but you can also use less bullet and, as i said, the concept is good.

Desktop Defense by emkiusz 2018-08-14T10:44:15Z

the game itself is fun, but if you shoot fireballs, the console window won't show how to start the game. i still don't know how to start the second wave. it could be a bit harder, the sprites could be improved (like the player) and there are some depth problems with the tower. but you made this in just one day, so this is pretty impressive. But the biggest problem with the game is that it reminds me of the days when i had a windows xp computer...

Better Than Thanos by Vekstr 2018-08-14T09:40:38Z

This game has a lot of potential. i'm not the biggest fan of the gameplay, but this could be improved by making differend types of shots. for example an ice one which can't destroy anything, but can prevent them from extending.

The 3d-models are a bit simple, but they have this low-poly-cell-shading, and i love it. The menu is also pretty good. from there you can see what you are going to do, but it's also great as a normal menu. The music is short, but i think in this case that's a good thing. it just creates even more pressure.

Like i mentioned, my biggest problem is the gameplay. it's just not fun clicking as fast as possible. If you would be able to charge a shot are something like that, it would be good. You should really develop it further.

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T18:56:46Z

the only complain i have with this game is that it's too much luck. if the enemy has perfect rng, this game is impossible. but everything else is pretty good. the graphics are good enough, the game is unique, it hits the theme and the ai is not completely buggy. that happens to me everytime i make an ai. well done!

Blocks by Anubhav Kashyap 2018-08-22T17:40:34Z

it's not that difficult to make a game in five hours. the hardest thing about that is that you have to keep it really simple, but also polished. this game is probably the best example for that i have seen so far. you managed to make a 5 hour-game, that seems to be completed with very little flaws. it's not much, but the only problem i saw was the isometric view, but besides that i've seen no problems at all. good job!

Bloody Hooligans by Natwomb 2018-08-14T22:46:52Z

it just feels so good when you get a bit of speed and just drive through a horde of enemies. the exploding football is also a really good feature. everything else is also good. this is one of the best ld42 games i played so far. well done!

Don't Let 'em Fall! by Jonasz999 2018-08-15T10:03:45Z

this is a good game. i like the concept. while this "the area is falling apart" thing is common this time, i like what you did with it. in most games like this you have to protect a single character. in this game you controll dozens of characters at once, and because of that it gets really intense. The only flaws are visuals and audio, i can understand why, it's really boring making sprites and 3d-models, and coming up with a good track takes some time, but the biggest problem is the rng. sometimes i just get trapped and there's nothing i can do about it, i think. but besides that, this game is really fun. it's also really nice of you, that you inluded the source code even though this is a jam game

WWTD ( World Worst Tower Defence ) by jackw899 2018-08-14T11:39:56Z

this is NOT the worlds worst tower defense game. it's actually fun! the biggest problem is that you get money by clearing waves and not by defeating enemies. but thats really it. everything else is just classic tower defense. besides the insane amount of lifes that the base has, i really like the balancing. overall a pretty solid game!

The Hero's incredible Chronicles by Gaming Night 2018-08-17T15:16:17Z

i mean... i was running out of space, but not in the way i thought. this was probably one of the most unexpected things that could happen, and i really liked that dialogue at the end. it probably could be a bit more. that moment at the end where you have to exit, but if you don't exit the text just goes on really reminded me of some parts in portal 2, where a character wants you to do something, but if do nothing, they will just continue to talk. the game very small an short, but besides the pink ground there are no problems.

head space by leviathon 2018-08-14T22:15:55Z

i like the idea, but the execution is not very good. the music-track is only 2 seconds and you can easily hear it cut off, there are still white pixels at the border of the black sprite and the thoughts get always stuck. but if you somehow prevent the thoughs from getting stuck, work on the audio and visuals, and polish it a bit, this could be a really good game. if you are planning to make a post jam update/version, then keep those things in mind

Colouroboros by dmtroy 2018-08-14T10:23:38Z

This game is like snake, but in 3d an instead of eating... squares, you have to eat yourself. i really like the concept, but damn this is hard. at first, it's okay, but the more you eat, the faster you get and then i miss the blue segment and lose. i think the hard mode is well implemented, but medeium should be what easy is, and in easy mode you should have mor lifes and some respawns. This would make the difficulties more unique, and the game in general easier for people like me. the music is just good, the graphics are good, but they work so perfect together. this game is a lot of fun, just a bit difficult!

Castle Defenders by Bela Bohlender 2018-08-14T23:29:13Z

i like what you did with the theme, since not only you are running out of space, but your enemy also is. the only problem is, that the matches are really short. but overall good game!

Slow Access Memory by Odin 2018-08-15T09:50:30Z

besides from the missing ending, the fact, that this game has only 1 level, and that the quit-button looks a bit poor, this seems like a full game, and i love the game. the idea is very interessting, the level is well made (it reminds me a bit of captain toad: treasure tracker), the game looks really good, and it's just a really good puzzle game. please make new levels and devolop this into a full game. don't miss this opportunity, you have a really good base game here!

The Ever-Mounting Pressure by Cohav0310 2018-08-14T23:05:27Z

this game is amazing. when the camera gets close, this gets really intense, and the gameplay is also good. The only problems are, that when you move, you don't face the direction you are shooting at, but the direction you are walking at, which causes you to shoot out an arrow out of your back, and that there is no cooldown on the crossbow. if it had a cooldown, you also wouldn't be able to shoot in 4 directions at a time. but overall greta game!

Raft vs Shark by Batlordz 2018-08-14T11:14:34Z

this is my favorite game so far in this jam. the music and graphics are good, the game is fair by showing you where the raft will get damaged, it's a nice balance of challenge and luck, and hits the theme perfectly, and i really like the idea. and the fact that this is your first game makes it even better. my first game was way too hard. noone could defeat the first enemy, but the difficulty on this game is perfect! well done!

SpaceBreaker by MarkD 2018-08-14T13:39:14Z

this game is by far the best game where you spam a button as the main mechanic i ever played.it's really satisfying. the visuals are just stunning. it's both surreal and just badass. the music also really fitting. the biggest problem is that you just have to press the space bar, but that's it! great job!

Claustrophobia by deformhead 2018-08-15T09:25:05Z

i like this game. it looks very good, the concept is really innovative, and the game overall is really fun. at first, i was confused why i lost lifes, but you made the area in a way nobody will get stuck, since your only option is to go down, and in this first room you learn everything you have to know about the game. the only problem of this game is that every enemy looks the same, but moves in a differend pattern.if they looked a bit differend, this game would be even better. good work!

Mass Coalesce by Jumpander 2018-08-17T15:46:59Z

i like that you used the theme in 2 ways. the first being, that the wall and the ceiling move, and the second being that you grow as you progress, so you need more space. but this game has a few flaws. the biggest is that it needs to be polished. sometimes the jumping doesn't work. this is when hanging an something, which i could understand, but sometimes you can jump. you bounce a few times on the ground when you land. this should be just a visual thing, but you can't jump while bouncing. what makes this even more confusing is the fact, that you hear the jumping sound while pressing the jump-button in the air. this is the biggest flaw in my opinion. the second flaw i notices was the insane difficulty spike at level 7. i had no problems in level 1 - 6, but i died a few times in level 7, but besides those 2, rather easy to fix flaws, this game i pretty good. i like the concept, the visuals, the music. it's just some things in gameplay that could be improved, so if you want to continue developing this game, then please keep this things in mind.

Cluster by Ignacio Zamorano 2018-08-22T19:16:37Z

i like the idea of the gameplay! the only thing to improve the game would be a harder difficulty, since every run takes too long. there don't need to be gimmicks to each difficulty, just let a few more enemies spawn, let those enter the folders faster, and let the player recieve more points. but besides the difficulty, this game is really good!

Running Out Of Spice by Raivk 2018-08-14T11:47:22Z

i like the idea. this game is really good. the only problems for me are that i had problems seing the obstacles, and that the soundtrack is really short. but besides that, this game is amazing!

Inadequate Ark by Sean Turner 2018-08-14T13:49:54Z

this is an interresting concept you have. the execution is also pretty solid.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Kruznice by Split82 2020-10-07T07:20:32Z

Definitely one of the more interesting entries. The concept is very interesting, the minimalistic graphics do their job and I love the fact that you can win a level in what feels like a billion ways. The execution of the idea is good too, but there are some small issues, like the block being teleported out of a circle if it's stuck inside, or the fact that you can't change the direction or speed of the circles. If you end up making a post jam version (which I doubt because of a ceratain other game you are working on), besides more levels, this is the main thing you should try to make. But these are small issues, it's an overall well executed idea.

Get the Pizza! 🍕 by gnx 2020-10-09T14:05:41Z

This is the most unique game in this jam I played so far. Considering the theme, the idea is really good, and the execution might be even better. I would love to see a version of this with more levels, and maybe grid-based movement, because right now, getting through one-block paths is really tough. Incredible work!

Ternimal Velocity by Infraxion 2020-10-09T12:45:28Z

This game is weird, but the good kind of weird. It's a strange situation and you don't get a lot of context, but still enough so it makes kinda almost a bit of sense. One issue I had, which basically got me softlocked, was that you can drag the mole of the platform, causing him to not be intractable anymore. I feel like the grabbing mechanic as a whole felt a bit clunky. On the other hand, there are some simple, but nice puzzles in this. And both the art and music are very simple, but complex enough to feel complete. Overall a really interesting game.

Rat Inc by Wouter Deferme 2020-10-07T08:06:58Z

The fact that you need to press two buttons is an interesting take on a clicker game. The milestones were set up just right so the game didn't get stale. Since the gameplay loop isn't too complex there isn't a lot to say. Overall nice game!

Loop de Loop by Klaus Peter 2020-10-08T07:31:40Z

It's definitely an interesting concept, which also fits the theme. If you plan on making a post jam version, you should probably just focus on making the game longer, since this is the only issue I can think of. Very neat puzzle game!

Hall of Repeat by Monkosum 2020-10-09T09:31:30Z

@desertmaw You can use your second weapon by pressing the right mouse button. When both slots are filled, your currently held weapon will be switched with the one on the ground. Also, thank you for the feedback.

Hall of Repeat by Monkosum 2020-10-09T09:34:07Z

@dark-prince-zen I tried a lot of different tones for the bullets, and this is the best I could do. What do you think I should use for the bullets? I thought about giving the bullets the color of the level. Do you think that would work?

Chronos Time Warp by Zliebowitz 2020-10-09T13:15:51Z

This game doesn't have a lot of depth to it, but you nailed that retro vibe. Full 8-bit music, simple, but effective pixelart, credits, that show the name of every enemy. The lack of depth is my only issue. If you want to continue working on this game, consider adding an extra item slot, maybe more complex dungeons.

Looped by zimny11 2020-10-09T13:57:59Z

Really reminds of a few dialogues in Portal 2, when you don't do what you're supposed to do. I love that kind of humor. Also, is there really a hidden game or was that just a joke? I played through the game twice just to see if something changed, but it didn't.

Unloop by Sebastian Caron 2020-10-09T13:45:27Z

There are some inconsistancies in this game, like the player holding a club, but shooting bullets, weird hitboxes, enemies, that look like the player, and a pixelart character at the beginning, while the rest of the game is made with vector art. Other than that, there is a lot to this game. Lots of interesting mechanics to make the levels more unique, a general timer, which goes hand in hand with the short levels, and, while inconsistant, a cool artstyle and chill music.

L🗘🗘p Labs by Heho 2020-10-07T07:53:22Z

When someone told me that the concept of this game is that it's Portal, but you can create time loops instead of making portals, I would've thought that game would be completely uninspired and put out without much thought, but this game is the complete opposite. The problem with puzzle games in game jams is that most people will get stuck on them, like I did, but I think this is a really solid foundation of what could be an incredible game. The mechanics are used in interesting ways, though I still think they have a lot of potential, the presentation is done really well, and dang, there are a lot of levels in this. I didn't even play to the end and it took me over half an hour. I got stuck in a level where you first had to keep a cube in place so it blocks a laser, then you go upwards, where you'll find a ball dispenser and a pusher right next to it, which pushes the ball down to a button, but for some reason the door didn't open. I restarted about 10 times while trying out different things, but it just didn't work. Since I don't know the solution, I can't give you advice on how to fix that, but honestly, it's the only problem I had with the game. Nicely done!

LoopOS by Rustywolf 2020-10-10T14:07:41Z

This is one of my favorite games from this jam so far. I like these kind of games, that you can play through in just a few seconds, but because you know nothing, it's gonna take you way longer. It took me about half an hour to beat this, but it was really good. My only issue is the slightly delayed button-press-sound, and the fact that it takes about ten seconds for webcams to load.

Don't Freeze by Neonalig 2020-10-06T16:16:28Z

If you're planning to make a post jam version, please include some kind of interactive tutorial, since this is a pretty complicated game compared to most jam games. Also, it would've been neat if the player was a little bit faster or if you didn't distort the entire screen with post processing when it's too warm or too cold. Other than that, it was really, really good! The crafting was fleshed out, as well as the rest of the mechanics, and the presentation was on point. Did you really make this in the time limit? Just asking because it seems a little bit TOO fleshed out. Or did you get help from other people? If not, then I'm just impressed.

Karmic Circle by TheConfusedCyborg 2020-10-08T07:39:11Z

The concept is really cool! I think if you made more, or even better, longer levels, maybe improve the audio and visuals, this could become something incredible. Nice work!

Among The Stars by Layne Stokes 2020-10-10T13:32:04Z

I think this game's biggest flaw is the perspective. It's hard to keep track of how far the asteroids are. I see that you're using Unity, so if you haven't gotten into 3D development yet, I think you should try to turn this into a 3D game. I would absolutely play it again in 3d, because I really enjoyed this game. The concept and its execution are really good. Also, I really like the song. Overall a really good game!

While we are here - stuck in a loop by Seskon 2020-10-08T07:54:43Z

I think commenting and moving requires too much precision. A good way to fix it would be to let the player select a line, and then do stuff with it using the keyboard. Other than that, the game is genius. I think it's simple enough for not-programmers to understand, but if you want to make a post jam version, it seems like a solid foundation. The audio was satisfying, the visuals, while not being that good IMO, fit really well in this game, and it fits the theme in a unique way.

While we are here - stuck in a loop by Seskon 2020-10-08T21:14:10Z

@seskon Well, there are a lot of tricks to use to make your game look cleaner, like background colors and actual UI stuff, that you can't really display in a console window. You kinda dodged that problem by using those tricks to some extend, but I think it still looks a bit cluttered. Also, and I believe that's mostly on me, console windows somehow feel almost claustrophobic. But as I said, I think it fits the game really well, and it's also not as bad as it might've sounded earlier.

Project R.O.O.M by Arad HamidSamiee 2020-10-09T12:56:32Z

When I got to the questing asking if there's omeone else in the room, I looked around, saw something in the corner and almost had a heart attack. Not really my kind of game, which is why I didn't give it an overall score, but I can see what you were going for, and you did a pretty good job.

The pain of what never will by kutarta 2020-10-09T13:24:06Z

Interesting idea for the theme. I like the concept of a single level looping over and over again, but with some changes. You also linked the them to the story, which is vague, but clear enough. But I gotta ask: Is there a way to get to acceptance? It feels weird, that the game just end at depression. I don't want to know how to get there, just if it's a thing in the first place. Anyways, the gameplay was really simple, but since that's not really the focus of the game, it's not a big problem. Nice game!

Fröggo by Loren Heubert-Aubry 2020-10-06T15:51:55Z

I think the hitboxes were a bit weird since you used sprites instead of 3d models. But other than that this is a solid entry. A classic game with a twist that doesn't only fit the theme, but was also completely unexpected. Overall really solid.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

GA GAME ME by Jezzamon 2021-04-26T06:22:57Z

I had a similar idea, but I couldn't think of an interesting twist to make the game fun and unique. This game is a really good example of what I was looking for. You went with one of the more obvious choices, but added a gimmick to it, to make it one of the most unique and fun LD games I've played. I like pretty much everything about this game. The controls could be a bit better, the small camera window made me fall to death multiple times, but other than that, this is perfect. Nice job!

Rock Monster by Myko 2021-04-26T06:39:08Z

It's actually so satisfying falling down like a hundred blocks at once. I really like the flow of the game. At the beginning, it's kinda hard and your main goal is to just build up weight, so you can then fall down extremely far in the endgame. Fun game!

Bass Drop by TimTipGames 2021-05-10T15:41:19Z

As other people have said, the notes are heavily out of sync. But this game was still really fun. I ended up getting a score of 16130. Very solid entry!

Minigun Miner by drludos 2021-05-15T12:48:45Z

It's incredibly satisfying to destroy the terrain with your minigun. I think the sound of the minigun was a bit annoying, but that's about the only complaint I have. Very fun entry.

Unearther by udo 2021-05-15T13:15:52Z

It's impressive that you managed to implement that leaderboard thing that I forgot the name of. Actually, It's impressive how much there is in this game. You have a lot of mechanics, a well made main mechanic, a reason to repeat levels, a polished, fitting music track, and the list goes on. Overall really nice job.

Kickstart Minecart by Elemental Zeal Game Studios 2021-05-10T14:35:38Z

While I do think that the grappling mechanic is a lot of fun, I think it could be a lot better if the player didn't completely mess with the physics-system if they rotate. Other than that, I'm suprised by how polished this game actually is. It also looks incredibly good for a game made in just 3 days.

Descentris by PhilStrahl 2021-04-26T06:59:29Z

Like the soundtrack, the concept, the visuals, and pretty much everything about this game. My only issue is that some of the pre-made obstacles feel a little bit too hard.

Mr. & Ms. Deeper: Descent to Inner Depth by SIGILL 2021-05-10T15:12:22Z

I like how you only used a few mechanics while utilizing them in unique ways that make every puzzle feel different from each other. I think it works even better with the main mechanic, since each character plays differently. The lack of sound is a bummer, but this game is really good regardless.

LD Double Feature: D'pur & Deepir by John Chapman 2021-04-29T07:58:55Z

Really interesting concept. I mostly enjoyed how the game progressivly speeds up. This, mixed with controling two characters, that are going in different direction, just ends in chaos and messing up. Very challenging. I also really like the art style, as well as the music.

DeBlockhas by Sode 2021-04-26T06:49:23Z

My biggest problem is that the block placement can be either really ease to dodge or nearly impossible. The sound design feels nice, it sounds like these blocks are breaking like glass when they hit the top of the room.

DigDig by Pixelhurricane 2021-05-15T12:38:36Z

This game is really polished for something made in 2 days. There are some pretty simple mechanics that work really well together. Pretty solid entry.

BLAST MINER by SuperGamersGames 2021-04-26T17:31:21Z

I think it might be a little bit too difficult, since you are a oneshot and the enemies spawn really quickly. Other than that, I love the rocket-jump mechanic. Other than the lack of music, the sound design feels extremely satisfying, the visuals are nice. Overall very solid game!

Edge of Recursion by m-trigo 2021-05-10T14:44:52Z

I like the resource management in this game. Originally I didn't like how fast the pickups went by, but more often than not you would only have time to get either a shield or fuel replenishment. The only issue is, that you lose fuel way too quickly, so there's little reason to go for a better shield. I think your fuel should be going away slower, while you take more damage from asteroids. This is a really solid entry though. I had a lot of fun with this one.

Diggy by Asue 2021-04-27T17:31:43Z

This game is just really satisfying to play. The visuals look incredible, the music is nice, the gameplay is interesting with a lot mechanics and it was just fun. It would be better if you could place the blocks on a grid instead of just anywhere, since that can cause you to get stuck. Also, since this game has only one song, it should just continue playing after finishing a level. But these are minor complaints. Overall a really good game!

CQns by PizzArt64 2021-05-15T13:46:47Z

I'm a big fan of the visuals, the music and overall polish, and I would probably really enjoy the gameplay as well, if aiming was a bit easier. I think if you shot with the mouse, or with the arrow keys, it could've been a lot better. I would really like to see a post-jam version with improved aiming, because this game is really not bad. It's just difficult to get into.

Infini-Digger by theArchitect 2021-05-10T15:29:45Z

I think this game needs a better tutorial. You just get introduced to way too many mechanics at once. One example would be the tutorial for the devices. You should get introduced to one at a time instead of all of them. I can tell that you put a lot of thought into this game, and that's why I'm excited about the post jam version.

Rapid Descent by Zakolnuki 2021-05-10T15:47:53Z

I really like the controls, and the visuals, and the random level generation, and the animations. Other than the lack of sound effects, I have no complaints. You made a really simple game and polished it to no end. Very nice job!

FallBot by Obelex 2021-05-15T12:59:23Z

I have no idea how you managed to pull this 3d effect off. I've seen so many people try to make convincing fake-3d-visuals, but this is the first game I've played that really nails it. As for the game itself, I think the idea is neat. It's extremely satisfying to play, has a unique concept and with the timer you have a motivation to play it more than once. I managed to get a time of 2:16. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Fall Damage Isn't Fun by JakubBala 2021-04-27T17:23:34Z

I liked this a lot. It's a unique concept for this theme. Personally I didn't have any issues with the controls at all, except for jumping. For some reason you can't jump as high as normally if you move towards a wall, so I was stuck in the starting area for a few minutes. I also like ability to pan the camera, although it seems a little bit broken how there is no limit to how far you can go. Still, really nice game!

I think this game really needs some additional visual polish. It needs a health bar, the drill should not extend as far to the left as it does (I got hit by multiple off-screen obstacles) and there should be indicators where the obstacles appear at the end of an area, since you can just get hit when they spawn in. I think this game is a good example of how visuals can actually impact the gameplay. I did enjoy the music though. It felt surprisingly polished. I also like that the last area mixes up the patterns of obstacles.

I like how this game tries to overwhelm you with more and more enemies, but manages to not feel completely unfair. Instead of relying on RNG, you just have to make quick decisions on how you are going to spend your time. Very clever entry.
