This game was really fun! It was very satifying to reach the gem.
Character movement is so fast. Probably speed of game not associated to framerate. I love this violet grass!) Very well for 48 hours and first LD.
@moomka Thanks for the feedback! it was very tough to tune the character, as I was very low on time XD. Was on a huge time crunch because ive also never made pixel art, or 2d character animation!
@ryan-romero Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3
The tilesets here reminded me a lot of Terraria. I enjoyed having to think carefully about how to safely get down - that's not something that often gets explored. As Moomka mentioned, though, the player movement did feel quite fast.
Quite simple game. Please think of non qwerty keyboard users, wasd isn't as universal as you might think :) The very fast player and tiny platforms makes for a challenging descent !
The controller was a bit hard to control with the speed of the character darting across the screen, but the game was fun to play and getting the gem was really rewarding.
I liked this a lot. It's a unique concept for this theme. Personally I didn't have any issues with the controls at all, except for jumping. For some reason you can't jump as high as normally if you move towards a wall, so I was stuck in the starting area for a few minutes. I also like ability to pan the camera, although it seems a little bit broken how there is no limit to how far you can go. Still, really nice game!
I am always amazed by what you guys are able to do in the "Compo" category ! The player moves a bit too fast for the precision required in the game, and it lacked sound, but otherwise, that was a really good compo ! I've seen jams that were worse that this, so keep up the good work ^^ !
Good entry!
At first I didn't pay enough attention to the height I was falling from and I died just above the gem. I have been more cautious the second time, trying to control the character more precisely and I managed to make it to the gem without taking too much damage.
It is nice to have a physics mechanic with the box at the start, it would have been really interesting to have the player needing to use it later on in the game, but I totally understand that this kind of level design stuff would have taken you beyond the limited time of the compo. I made it to the end not particularly trying to use the other boxes, and I think being forced to find how you can use them to fall safely would have added a kind of puzzle mechanic that would have been entertaining.
I saw above that you've spent a lot of time on the graphics, and I think you did really well. The tiles are very clean looking and it is well done to have them change while you go down. I would say the same thing as the others did about the character movement, but I understand that you gave the priority to the art.
Really good work!
great concept! simple, but really well done - i'd love to see more of this!
@loonydrope Hi! Thanks so much for the feedback! i do agree about the level design, if i had more time i would've made the player way more dependant on the boxes. It was actually my intention for the player to use the boxes, but i didn't have enough time to go through and test the level as much as i wanted. But thanks so much for the feedback :))
@monkosum Hello! Yes I agree that the jump is a bit bugged, I also noticed that after submitting :joy: However the camera I think must be broken for you because whenever I play the game it clamps to the border of the screen. I'm sorry that you got stuck at the start for a few minutes btw! I should've checked the controls more thoroughly but thank you so much for the feedback :))
@thegreenworm Very sorry about that! I never knew that! Will definitely keep that in mind for next time :)
Cool game! The player speed made it a bit frustrating though.
Interesting choice to make the game's core challenge be fall damage, when the title says fall damage isn't fun
There's solid platforming to be done, though with the current speed my reflexes are struggling with it. The physical boxes add a little spice to the environment, and that's a good addition to make the platforming more interesting. I'd spend a little more time getting the movement working smoothly next time: a more fitting player speed/acceleration, and good jumping feel would be a great improvement. Finally, the graphics are on point. Keep it up!
Nice job! I actually really liked this small game! It is a really interesting idea and application of the theme to have a game all about fall damage and avoiding it as much as possible. What I found cool too was that it wasnt just about not falling too far on one go that would kill you, but instead thinking of your health as a resource and where you can use it for bigger drops and where you need to be more careful! The speed was definitely a bit fast/touchy and the boxes would go flying sometimes when I was just tapping them as lightly as possible. But I was able to beat it and had a great time! Awesome job!
Neat little game. Seconding Ryan's observation -- it's quite cool to see health as a resource that can be spent in this way. Really great for a first Ludum Dare!
The concept was very cool :sunglasses: It took me a couple tries but I eventually got it!
I think this idea could be expanded on to make something really amazing. Tighter platforming controls would go a long way.
I really liked it! First time I see a unique concept based off of fall damage as a mechanic, everyone hates fall damage!
The controls could be a bit smoother, since the player acceleration and top speed were pretty crazy and the boxed acted as though they're made of styrofoam.
Besides that, great entry!
@ryan-dotsikas @ludumdaredevil @neon @poboy @evan @zuvr Thank you guys so much for the feedback, and yes I agree with all of you that the controls and general physics were a bit crazy :joy: I will definitely set aside more time next LD on perfecting player movement and physics :) Thanks so much for playing!
