Nice atmosphere and good models. and for a first time in 3d its great.
Looking really good! Piece of art! Amazing!
I had no idea what I was doing and that was perfect. Great work.
Really well done with the graphics, sounds and overall mood!
A great game ! At first I felt like it was going to be really hard, but you gave the player all the tools he needs to piece up the information no navigate the cave ! This is a bit like a constant puzzle game, I like it a lot.
There might be a bug because I got the ending screen when I rammed into a wall at the start, it's a shame cause it did spoil the ending for me.
This is a really good game, you need to learn how to comfortable operate the submarine, but overall its one of the best games I found on LD :D
I had no idea what I was doing at all when I first started. But I figured things out eventually. Great graphics and audio and mood! Really giving me some subnautica vibes.
Freaking sweet premise! But it's not for me. The vessel is a bit too hard to control to my liking, but i love the atmosphere and would have really wanted to experience more (past the first cave part). Very nice graphics!
Amazing game and experience. I didn't know what I was doing at first but the atmosphere kept me going. Really well done!
I wish to play it in VR <3, sooo immersive, thanks for excellent sound systems!
OH MY GOD. This game is absolutely awesome. Feels like playing Subnautica or Outer Wilds, but slower and more methodical. Devices mostly intuitive, but I'm lacking an option to see what's above me. Both times I died from punching my submarine into the ceiling that i couldn't see. Also, the game is very punishing. I think I've spent about 20 minutes and it was harsh to lose all your progress. Maybe you still have the time to add checkpoint?
Somewhere between 10 snd 11 Y coordinate I get really confused and can't progress further UPD: I've reached the kraken, but i died before launching thee torpeda. Was it necessary to turn the ship towards the monster before launch?
This is definitely the lonngest time I've spent on a game in this jam, and it gave me most emotions and impressions
I COMPLETELY LOVE THIS GAME. I ended up playing for an hour, just messing with the controls and keeping my eyes on everything lol. Maybe I was just slow, but I felt engaged the whole time and didn't even know time was passing by. Like someone else said, I'd LOVE this game in VR. Figuring out how to control the sub was definitely part of the experience for me that made it more fun. I loved how the ambience shifted in the different depths. It definitely is a weird feeling being underwater and not being able to see exactly what's in front of you, other than from radars and gauges! Really enjoyed playing this game that you made in such a short time!! :sun_with_face:
Super impressive visuals and UI/UX. Very polished and nicely presented game. Really enjoyed it.
Thank you all for the amazing feedback. We were a bit worried that having so many controls and instruments would scare people away before they really get to *dive* into the experience. Hearing that so many of you got to the end and enjoyed doing so is absolutely amazing!
This game makes me feel like I'm a marine in an underwater mission xD Incredibly fits the theme and the execution is carried out well enough. One of the most promising game in the jam so far.
Amazing idea. So fun to play when you understand how all works. Nice work.
Feeling blind in the under water and you haven't got any power to protect yourself. I feel powerless. It was a good experience . I realy liked it . fantastic. I have only one critic. Maybe you could adjust the light intensity lower. So you feel more alone.
A very atmospheric game with cool graphics and sounds, though it's a bit difficult to figure out what to do xD
It's much better than Subnautica!
An incredible experience, with a strong ambiance and really stressfull gameplay. I would love to see it being a more complete game!
One of the best games on Ludum Dare 48 so far!
The atmosphere is really great, even though I took time to understand most of the things including the compass as well as to locate my position on the map, he was very cool when i understand all, but sometimes we hurt a rock behinh us and also the throttle dind'nt went to block at the first time. I went to see the KRAKEN !! haha thank's for note my game.
One of the most enjoyable games so far. It takes time to get to know the controls, but once that is done it's incredibly rewarding when you advance to the next stage. Wasn't able to find the exit, but I'm sure I was at the furthest border.
I think having a lot of different controls is what makes this game feel great and immersive. A short tutorial for how they work would have been perfect but overall amazing and polished submission
Very cool experience! A bit overwhelming at first but you start to figure things out one by one.
Absolutely amazing! Super original and amazing that you managed to create this in just a weekend. And here's proof I finished the game:  thedeepend.png blurred to not spoil the final text
Immaculate atmosphere! Even though it was one of the longer ld-games I've played, not a single minute felt wasted. Really love the gameplay, even though I'm probably not the best submarine captain as I had to turn quite a lot at the end
Amazing game considering this was made in a gamejam. Really cool mechanic in how you navigated through the water with only the help of the tools. It was a bit confusing but still fun and engaging. It felt really immersive, especially with the diegetic UI.
I had no idea what I was doing, but it looked super cool. I don't think I click with this style of game, but I'm glad I tried it out. This looks like a lot of work for a weekend, but more guidance in the beginning would have helped me break the ice and figure out what I'm doing. Cool game :)
Amazing game, not really my kind of thing but I still really enjoyed it. I found linking the coordinates to the map especially hard somehow and it took me quite a few goes before I even realized they were linked. (Maybe because the gps seemed a bit high tech and obvious compared to the sonar and handles? Not sure, somehow i just didn't grok it for a while)
Favorite entry so far! Takes some time to figure everything out but so glad I didn't give up.
Great atmosphere, nice graphisms, very immersive game, even i did not get what I have to do. Maybe a tuto would have been nice. Anyway, good job!
Incredible! Super immersive and technically impressive with what you were able to do in the span of a single jam. Learning how to control everything while monitoring all the different gauges made for a really unique experience.
fantastic game! really good job using sounds and interfaces to relay information to the player. really intense and innovative gameplay. Would love to see more!
outstanding, took me a while to understand the controls and how all the different parts fit together but once I did piloting that submarine was an incredible experience
Hey @caca I just played your entry "[20.000 light years deep in the sky](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/20-000-light-years-deep-in-the-sky/lets-find-eden-the-lost-planet)" and it's incredibly good!
Yes, as others have commented a tutorial in-game may have been a good thing... But somehow figuring out what to do and what the gauges, levers and displays do/show seems to be the experience a lot of you are enjoying in the game.
Thank you so much for playing the game and for all the comments here.
This is one of the best and most immersive games I've ever played. It really captured that feeling of being trapped and that the only way forwards was to continue pushing on. The more puzzling elements like the depth gauge and proximity stuff was really well done and I think the limited information really helped build that atmosphere.
This is a great idea! I love games that challenge what games really are and move outside established genres, and I think this one one nails it! Great job :)
I actually really liked not having a tutorial, many games nowadays often rob you of the satisfaction of figuring things out by yourself.
My submarine crashed and got stuck, I think. But it felt totally justified, I was driving rather recklessly!
I felt like a kid again, discovering what each lever, sound and movement did, and (thinking that I was) understanding everything. I ended up fantasizing the plot in my experience and playing around with the submarine, dodging stuff. I didn't get to the end, but ended my session with a smile. Thank you very much for putting all of this together in this amazing experience.
Wow. This was really well done. Definitely one of the more memorable games I've played so far. I got eaten by the kraken, but perhaps I'll try again.
I loved the atmosphere, I loved the controls, I loved groping blindly through the dark. The satisfaction of getting through that very first portal was a really great moment--The little lights closed in around me, first one green, then two green, then one yellow, then both yellow. I was gripping the controls, ready to slam on the breaks, then the lights turned green and dissapeared, first one, then the other.
Really great.
one of the best game of this jam !
What a great game. I love the light touch on instruction. A great idea executed perfectly!
Really interesting. Thanks for a unique experience! Very hard to control and the absence of instruction, although obviously intentional to encourage exploration of the various systems, I found to be frustrating ultimately. Perhaps a next version could have a "basic mode" with instructions or the "true experience" for those that want it. Different players want different things I suppose! I liked the depth scope with the wavy lines - very cool. Would be fascinated to know if you actually modelled a 3D environment which is sensed by the sub's systems. Keep up the good work!
@tim77 thank you for your feedback. I can totaly see how all the different instruments can be dauntig at first. This is probably along the lines of the DarkSouls easy mode debate. The high difficulty makes these games very hard to approach for many players. At the same time, having an easy mode would probably ruin the experience of ultimate triumph.
Regarding your question about the environment: We did actually build a (very basic) 3D environment and you do actually move through it. So the instruments do detect your surroundings and display them to you.
@theheheo Very impressive that you modelled the environment and got sensing systems working. Must have been super fun to code. Thanks for the response! :)
Wow. Amazing. Models, composition, mechanics and sound are perfect. Small and well executed, exactly how it should be!
Interesting experience! I admit I was afraid at first when I saw all the controls. I would have preferred a linear learning cuvre, maybe by introducing one control after the other. But I get it that is it a choice you made and that's also good, just frightening ahah
Other than that I adore the simple yet effective visuals, and overall athmosphere. Really immersive. This is an impressive work
edit : at first I had issues playing the game but I was on safari so I played it in chrome and it worked fine!
this game is amazing! I love the ambiance, it reminds me of Outer Wild (one of my very favorite games ever)! I have to admit I'm a very bad subnautica driver and had no idea what I was doing but it was cool. The fact that you don't see anything apart from your navigation tools is amazing as you have to imagine what's going on yourself. Anyway congrats, that's a very very cool game! Can't believe it's your first 3D game, good job :)
@dotsquare sorry you couldn't play the game. I think the problem is the Safari browser. You could try using Chrome or Firefox and see if that solves the problem.
@themoonrise hi! I edited my comment because I tried the game on chrome and it worked fine! great game, congrats!
Amazing Idea, I had some problems because of the map position, but the game works like a charm. Very interesting.
It really made me feel like I'm piloting a submarine, which is terrifying because I have no idea how to pilot a submarine. Really, this seems super interesting but I didn't know what I was doing, I'm not sure if the steering works the way I think it works, or if I'm going in the direction I think I'm going, I kept hitting rocks and I don't know how to get away from them. I was looking at the coordinates and the map and I thought I understood them but then the rocks come and I still don't know what to do. I think a little tutorial showing visually the actual effect of each control would go a long way.
Congratulations on the game, in the beginning it causes an uncomfortable feeling due to the restriction of the external view, but then I get used to it, I believe that if you go to a commercial version you will end up having to add a window to see what goes on outside, or you will be restricted to a smaller number of people playing, performed the proposed theme very well and, on top of that, managed to do a very important thing to take advantage of an idea that would be the most worked on in a really different way, this one of congratulations, a big hug to everyone, and I await your evaluations regarding to my game.
Absolutely fantastic job here. At first I almost gave up since the game seemed too difficult. But then I started to understand that I actually had all the tools I needed to properly locate my sub. The Experience was just the right length to still keep me interested, give me very tense moment with the Kraken in the end and then finally reach my target. Also big thanks for making a web build! :octopus:
-Fun: (4.5) The tension rises with the barometer in this game. The controls are challenging & are good fun to learn.
-Innovation: (4) There aren't many games, where you have to navigate purely by abstract navigation tools, and here is it solved quite well.
-Theme: (4.5) I still get panic by all the alarms & noises, especially when a collision happens.
-Grafics: (3.5) It is an interresting idea, that there is no sight of an environment, instead all the controls are solved visually. There are not very many details, the game's true strengths are elsewehere.
-Audio: (4.5) the sound design is quite important there down there when you see nothing else then
-Humor: (1.5) that is an aspect your game doesn't need.
-Mood: (4.5) The game has quite a well developed feel of submarine tension.
-Overall: ( 4.5 + 4 + 4.5 + 3 + 4.5 + 2 + 4.5 -> 4 )
The Points I would like to rate:
-Quality/Polish: (4) some kind of menu or restart option(ingame) would be nice.
-Genre: (4) I would imagine a game about submarine seafaring could look like this one.
-Szenario: (4.5) The mission is clear & has multiple stages, while all that is there is well crafted. I am not sure, if adding some optional or alternative steps, would go over the top...
-Setting: (5) Maybe a periscope or some advanced radar ... bah, the steelcoffin has the best feel.
-Story(telling): (3.5) Your adventure is told more in a indirect way. While there are some logs & info, there could be some updates & new findings on the way.
-Controls: (5) The controls are very complex & solved well
-Rules: (4) The collision sensor, and the silent running creates a lot of tension, and the alarm on a hit is quite ... alarming. The game is informing the player well and give always a second chance after a mistake, but not to much.
-Difficulty: (4) The game isn't necessary difficult on its own, it complex controls & displays are the true challenge a player needs to master there.
-Complexity: (4) Steering & orientation are bound to a wide array of something-meters, and anything you can do is a very necessary part of the game, especially when it is needed in a certain part of the progress.
-Content: (3.5) There is not really much in all parts of the game besides all the interresting instruments. Although the single level his a good length, and is well enough designed to play this game again, or ten times.
Interesting gameplay trying to navigate from the readouts. Was interesting trying to figure out what each means. Wish I would see all instruments without having to turn, might have made it easier to understand what was going on. The map helped and looked good, but I understood how it worked only after finishing the game.
The interface felt quite realistic, the bolts everywhere really helped. The lamp was a nice touch. Together with sounds added a lot of atmosphere.
Overall was very immersive experience, really felt like I was diving deep into the unknown.
