Loved it! Super polished, lovely art. Pretty simple platformer but love the animations and feel of the walls closing in, and it's cool how they change the level as you go. Also like the little hop walk that is unique to just walking. Good job!

stalemeat 2023-10-03 02:26

Pretty difficult game. It was hard but fair with checkpoints in mind. I like how the wall was animated. The added touch with the quick tutorial on the fall jump was superb. Great entry.

rafaelbatsan 2023-10-03 02:26

art an idea is cool, but sometimes the ability to jump higher disappears

yammming 2023-10-03 02:27

not able to play bc im on mac, but i watched your development timelapse and felt really inspired!!! so much work and its so condensed... also the pixel art for the frog is really really cute, kudos to ur artist!!

nckpark 2023-10-03 02:29

Nice work! The teeth slamming shut right as you escape was a great touch. Main criticism is that difficulty ramps up quickly, without a bit more time to get used to the controls.

pkb-games 2023-10-03 02:32

Personally wasn't a huge fan of the controls. They felt a little unresponsive to me. I liked the urgency I felt when the walls were closing in.

matheuscunegato 2023-10-03 02:33

Lovely game! Was able to finish it in 13:13. I've had a slightly rough time on floor 17, nothing that I would change to be honest. Amazing in every aspect, congratulations on the submission! Cheers to all of you and the old lady at the end of the mountain!

junagames 2023-10-03 02:43

This was really amazing, the level of polish was crazy for a jam game. Was super intense around level 12, amazing job. Would love to see better collision handling around ledge grabs otherwise amazing!!

redoxeide 2023-10-03 02:44

Nice job! this was such a fun game! I managed to finish it in 9:10. Actually getting the hang of the controls felt like an accomplishment. Feels like an easy to play, hard to master kind of control.

coeur 2023-10-03 02:59

The level design is excellent. I like how there are shortcuts close off as you take more time in the level, incentivizing you to hurry. However, I think the lag between pressing an arrow key and the frog moving is frustrating. Good work overall, it'd be cool to flesh this out and market it as a Jump King-esque thing to people who like those sorts of games.

wouter52 2023-10-03 11:50

What a fun little game this is! I like how things are explained in-game instead of providing a tutorial. Also, the checkpoint system is very well done and a welcome addition to an LD game. The whole thing feels polished.

I see that this is your first LD entry. Congratz!

One question: what engine did you use?

Loved the game ! Great art and feedbacks.

I think you should put checkpoints on every level. I rage quit on level 10 after 3 tries because of the chore of doing the previous level again.

Big up to the animations, closing levels is an amazing idea !

5mixer 2023-10-03 12:21

Nice gradual ramp up and embedded tutorial, cute squash/stretch on the frog, nice non-linear wall movement. It felt a bit like bouncing a football sometimes (and I can't do that well haha); the frog would jump further/less far than intended. Overall though, great submission!

mr-lazy 2023-10-03 13:45

Nice Game with a Cute Lil Frog... not like other usual controls,The control and movement is so frog..Loved it

logan-core 2023-10-03 14:19

@wouter52 I used Godot 4.2 for this game. Thank you for playing!

halvardo13 2023-10-03 15:49

Very unique movement! And it works very good aswell

spike-studio 2023-10-04 02:23

The jumping feels great! The squash is so juicy, and the jump sound is also nice, nice entry!

fusionnist 2023-10-04 02:45

Man, I liked this one! The movement feels really nice and the audio + video side are also well worked on. I had this bug on browser that ate my jumps when I entered levels at times. I'll be trying the desktop version though, and see if I can't beat the game! Cheers!

anciententity 2023-10-04 04:00

Really enjoyed this one! Tutorial was easy and needed no extra explanation. Another unique take on the theme which is always good. Congratulations on the game!

lincolnsalles 2023-10-04 04:19

I found it difficult to jump in a zig zag at the beginning, and also to jump from square to square in a zig zag. This made it very difficult for me as I'm not good at precision platforms. But good graphics and sounds.

n3k0k33p3r 2023-10-04 06:42

A fun and cute game, but control is very difficult :(

mr-sun 2023-10-04 06:56

Very polished game! Interesting concept and great implementation! Art is nice and music is very cute as well. Personally I was not able to get use to the movement when the froggy was on the ground and lost because of that mostly...

aviv-levy 2023-10-04 11:18

Very nice game! - Art, Music & SFX are great - The game is really polished - The frog movement is smooth and adds a layer of challenge

However, I think the game is a bit too difficult. Some jumps are really finicky, I even struggled at the tutorial where I needed to fall to the right then jump in the air... Maybe I just suck at jump challenges though 🤣 Honestly I got frustrated and gave up pretty quickly, but I do appreciate how well-made the game is. Congrats!

ismael-rodriguez 2023-10-05 03:23

Love it. Great idea and great mechanics. I like how it's not just spikes, but also the level changing too when the platforms get pushed in.

I eventually gave up because I felt the checkpoints were a bit brutal for having me re-do difficult stages. Another nit-pick I have is that many rooms felt kind of random, or without an identity.

Audio and visuals were great! Great job overall!

PS. I love the time-lapse, thanks for sharing!

minibobbo 2023-10-05 03:54

I really liked some of the mechanics like how some of the platforms attached to the spikes and moved with the walls wile others were stationary. Overall there was a lot of polish and it played nice.

This struck me as one of those "controls are purposefully difficult" type games that worked well for the most part. The Tutorial level was a good way to let me learn the controls before the chaos started.

The only thing that frustrated me (and not in a good way like the controls) was the disappearing blocks. I liked the transition warning that I get with the three flashes, but because the blocks transition graphically it wasn't clear to me when I could jump on them and when I would fall through. I found that I was always trying to land on them early when jumping off. Something like a sound to transition between safe and not safe would have worked, or maybe just a clean appearing/disappearing would help with that.

Also a button press to restart from the last checkpoint would have been great. Save a little frustration of making it almost to the top and then falling all the way back down and having to go jump into the spikes

agraffs 2023-10-05 07:07

Definitely enjoyed the game, fits nicely the theme and I like the idea of a frog plateformer. The graphics are also really cool. GG ! It's probably one of my favorite games so far.

Btw, I may have found a bug in the game, I does a few times and once on lvl 8 after a time I died, I couldn't jump anymore.

kasmilus 2023-10-05 11:42

The way that frog moves is fantastic, I loved it! Didn't enjoy how the levels are made though, those spikes were just freakin annoying. At least give me some more checkpoints! I couldn't finish it, just too hard for me, in a frustrating way. Artwork is great and music fits very well to. Overall it's a high quality game, it has to get a high rating from me but I just wish it was a bit friendlier for those less skilled :)

fusionnist 2023-10-05 21:04

Update: beat the desktop version in 9:14!!! :D Cheers!

enderswype 2023-10-06 09:38

OMG what a nice game, got stuck at checkpoint 14 and had to go but i'll probably come back to it haha

SFX, music, controls, level design and graphics overall are flawless, gg mate

random-storykeeper 2023-10-06 16:48

I love the pixel art and concept of incorporating frog-like mechanics into a platformer. The idea of the walls closing in is pretty neat, considering it can be more advantageous to wait for some levels to be narrower while being more prone to hitting the spiky wall sides. I really like how the music is used as well - the percussion picking up once you get to the actual tower climber portions was nice. While the composition in the track is very loopy, the instrument choices have pleasant timbres and the track doesn't wear out as easily. It enhances the environment of the game just right.

At first, I struggled a lot with level 2 but the moment I started writing in my notes to complain about it, I got past it and made it up to level 13. My biggest issue is that with the interesting movement controls, I feel like this game would have benefitted a lot more from being an adventure-platformer, without the chaotic tower-climbing aspect. The controls are quite difficult to get used to - even with the tutorial, you still don't get the full extent of how the physics or angle of jumping works, which made level 2 so difficult to deal with.

I know the wall-closing part is how the theme is integrated; it just doesn't feel like it goes that well together with the jumping controls, especially with the fall-jump mechanic which was difficult to get used to even in the tutorial. There's a lot of nuances that can be further fleshed out in an adventure-platformer to give the player a better sense of the controls and their quirks, then have the spiked wall levels either be interspersed with those regular levels or their own challenge entirely.

I will echo the sentiment I read above about the disappearing blocks. Their signal when they disappear is too subtle, both in visuals and lack of sound cue. I also was curious about the use of the spacebar. It was mentioned in the tutorial but when I pressed it (in the web version), it didn't do anything.

Overall, this is a cute entry with some difficult platforming because of the controls. I appreciate the volume slider and the interspersed checkpoints, though I do wonder why the checkpoints couldn't be after every level since not having them at level 2 and then dying gives the impression that you always start over from the very beginning once you die, which is just not true later on.

cdunham 2023-10-12 03:25

Really cool game, just the right amount of difficulty in my opinion. Checkpoints are integrated well and the tutorial is simple yet effective. Nice work!

cam-moore 2023-10-18 16:27

I like this one, I think the art was great. The jumping was hard but it was hard in a good way. Since you only moved side to side with a hop instead of smooth walking it was all about timing. Good job!

simonlarsen 2023-10-18 16:28

Cute game and fun if not a bit finicky due to the movement. Also took me a while to understand the mid-air jump thing. Overall nice, but incredibly difficult.

imontheweb 2023-10-18 16:46

yeah the disappearing blocks mostly had that lack of clarity because of the fact they had a fade in and out i think, very hard and not rewarding to figure out the exact moment you're able to actually land but this would be fixed with some audio. the level design here is very very good though! i had a huge blast playing this game (the polish is insane) and i loved the way it made you wait at times, very good for tension. i personally liked the somewhat brutal lack of checkpoints in the end stretch, made it feel like a real challenge. level 14 into 15 was a little silly in my opinion though, mostly because the block timing felt a little unfair in how hard it was to exactly pinpoint their timings, and that into the first jump of lvl 15 being pretty finicky and random feeling and very very easy to mess up alongside how quickly you have to do it made those two levels not the most fun to do over and over. outside of those two though, the rest of the level design was fantastic. the controls did feel a little unresponsive at times, but i can't say if that's due to the actual way they work or not teaching the player enough about how they do. really great game overall though!!! my heart was racing at the end stretch since i did it all without dying and i love that
