Fun game! It is missing some sounds, but it is pretty fun to play!
First: to get more people to play your game, add a cover image and maybe an image in the description itself. Also play and rate other games to get your Coolness up so your game shows up on the top of the games list. Also comment on other peoples games, they may return the favor and it will earn you a higher place on the feedback friends page.
Now feedback: It is a good first game.
I think the random crumbling of the ground may have made it impossible to beat randomly, so I had to reload until I got a run that can be completed. Maybe crumble it only after the player has touched it as least once?
Colliding with the enemies should make either them or the player die. Maybe you can kill them by jumping on them?
Being able to 'stand' in the side of a ground tile was weird, but I cass you could interpret it as 'holding on' to it.
Here is some feedback for you, hope you find this useful. Great concept, but in order to be good game it needs more work. Controls in platformer need to be on point or they feel awkward, you did okay except for clinging to the blocks (unless that was intentional). Maybe give player couple seconds to adjust to controls before start shooting him. Visuals are functional, but feel rushed (well it’s Ludum Dare). Despite some flaws great first entry, thumbs up!
Ps. Add screenshots to your game page to get people’s attention better.
This game has a good concept and is certainly good for a first LD game however I feel it could've been made much better. The art was quite ugly and the movement/collisions felt really strange. There wasn't any music or sound effects, and the game could've been a bit longer. Other then that, good job! :)
Hi there! Your game is pretty difficult, kept falling out of the sky :o. Also, the alien lasers made sure I died quickly lol. I think that some extra attention to the art (which comes with practise - it seems as though you're using windows paint, I'd recommend looks around for other programs like krita and trying some practise). Also, I 'caught' on the side of blocks as I fell. The hand drawn death screen reminded me a lot of my first LD game years ago http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=16241), just keep working away and within no time you're practise is going to make your LD games so much better. Good luck for the future :D
For a first attempt I wouldn't knock it. There are many improvements you could make, like how with the level collapsing you can get stuck and not progress. But if you keep at it you will always get better. But you're on the right path with good ideas :)
If you wouldn’t mind having a quick go of my entry and letting me know what you think I would be grateful. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/space-pow-collins
I won! But only because I discovered that you can double-jump. You should have put something in to explain that. Really pretty fun. You probably already know what you can improve, so I don't feel I need to give you all that. Keep working hard on making games!
A fun and challenginge little platformer with very basic graphics. After my first three or four attempts, I was going to say it's too hard, but it wasn't frustrating and so I kept at it until I beat it. So then I wished for more levels and challenges.
Overall, I must say that at least the pacing and the motivational punishment are well-designed. Good job on that, and definitely keep it up!
Wow, at the beggining, I said to myself, omg that game is impossible!!! And after 10 try I discover the double jump! ><
And then the game is much easier!! ^^ It's okay for me if there is no sound or medium graphics or little bug. The game is playable and finishable. The game is simple but work. Good job on it. I assume that is one of your first game, so keep it on!
I would have said loudly that __there's double-jump__. Because before I noticed it, the game was near impossible. Besides the issues you mentioned and (here I am guessing) that there's no goal in the game yet, it was kind of a neat platformer with the crumbling blocks. For LD, I would have suggested adding a sprite with text right at start that gave an objective like "climb to the top" and then at the top put another sprite that just said "you made it". Maybe there was something like that but I did get to the far right (I think/hope) and I climbed up a little bit.
Great job for your first game!
That was unexpectedly challenging! I love me some skill based platforming, and even though this is a rough-hewn prototype, it shows promise of level design apparent in the genre of uber-hard platformers.
I will echo what other's have said though: you should probably communicate somewhere the the player can double jump!
